After years of research, Al and Marilyn from Connecticut chose a 36 foot Grand Design fifth wheel as their full-time home on wheels. In this episode, they share why they chose their RV, their travel adventures, challenges and tips for living on the road.
Marilyn and Al share their downsizing story, what it was like moving from a house into an RV, and how they handle living together in such a small space.
Folks who are interested in what it is like facing medical challenges while traveling should definitely listen to this episode. Marilyn faced a major leg injury just a few months into their full-time journey, thousands of miles from their starting point and on what they consider to be their first "regular" trip as full-time RVers. She underwent surgery and months of therapy, changing their travel plans dramatically and learning to live with limited mobility in their fifth wheel.
Also in this episode: how Marilyn and Al plan their travels, what they do to see family along the way, what has changed about their travel schedule, their favorite things to do as they work their way across the USA, and more.
Just like our recent guests, Joanna and Randy and Eva and TC, Al and Marilyn began RVing just before they became full-time RVers. They've learned a lot and they've seen a lot in just a few short years!

This week we sit down with our friend Ron Gustafson, founder, builder, and owner of Jamaica Beach RV Resort to talk about his park in Galveston and the huge announcement his family has made recently regarding a new resort they are developing, Twin Oaks Resort.
We've been visiting Jamaica Beach RV Resort on Galveston Island in Texas every year since 2013. The 3-generation Gustafson / Salois Family founded, developed, built and operate this park. Over the years, we have watched as they have worked tirelessly to build a top destination park on the Texas Gulf Coast.
During our recent stay, the family announced that they have purchased land between Houston and San Antonio (right off of Interstate 10) to develop a new RV resort. Ron shares their plans for the new resort in this episode.
We are very excited to see the "old Texas charm" that will be Twin Oaks Resort. Be sure to scroll down this page to see pictures of the property.
This episode is not complete without a mention of Ron's wife and the matriarch of the Gustafson family, Dora. Dora passed away unexpectedly recently. In the 10 years that we knew her, Dora always had a smile on her face and a focus on hospitality. We miss you Dora.

This week we sit down with our friends Kelly and JR who travel part-time in their 33' Wildwood travel trailer. They share their adventures, challenges and RV travels.
Both RVers when they were growing up, JR and Kelly's RVing adventures together got off to a very rocky start with a series of near disasters from traffic accidents to tornados. Adding on to that, Kelly lives with an ongoing health condition and you might think they would have given up on RV camping. But not these two! Seven years later, they are still enjoying traveling in their camper.
JR says they are blessed that they are "too hard-headed to give up" and Kelly says their adventures are "like Robin Williams". But anytime they are camping, it is relaxation time. So how do they make time for the adventures? How far do they go? How do they decide what to pack for a trip? And what's coming up for their future travels?
Hear all about Kelly and JR's RVing adventures in this week's episode!

Seasonal travel destinations are considered seasonal for a reason. Historically, an overwhelming majority of the area's tourists and part-time residents visit during a particular season. A Colorado ski town's prime season might be Winter. A popular beach town might boom during Summer. Often the popular season revolves around weather. And sometimes the off-season means that most, if not all, of the town's businesses are closed.
The shoulder seasons occur between the off-season and the prime season. These in-between seasons occur in late Spring and early Fall in Northern Michigan (the top of the mitten... just south of the Upper Peninsula).
So what is it like visiting a traditionally seasonal destination during a shoulder season? Were we crazy to visit Northern Michigan in early May?? Listen to this week's episode to find out!

A lot of RVers (ourselves included) are attracted to RVing, at least in part, because they want to visit the US National Parks. Over the past several years, we've visited several major National Parks as well as US National Monuments, National Wildlife Refuges, National Seashores, National Recreation Areas and National Historic Sites. Sometimes we've camped inside the national park and other times we've stayed at an RV park or campground outside of the national park.
In this episode, we discuss what you should consider before showing up to RV camp in a US National Park, the benefits of camping inside the park and the benefits of staying outside of the park (yes, there are pluses and minuses to each). We also share some tips and resources that we use to help us make the decision on whether or not to RV camp inside a national park and how we choose a campsite that will fit our Class A motorhome and our needs.
If you'd like to watch some of our National Park experiences (including our campsites), check out our National Parks Video Playlist! (We've embedded 3 of these videos in this episode's show notes... we camped inside Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area and Dinosaur National Monument and outside of Rocky Mountain National Park.)

There is A LOT that we enjoy about full-time RV life! BUT, with all of the great things about full time RVing, the lifestyle is NOT all rainbows and butterflies. In this episode, we talk all about the challenges we have faced over the past 4 1/2 years as full-time RVers.

One of the things we love most about RVing is that we can bring our pets along for the fun. We love having our dog (Star) and our cat (Astro) with us as we travel. But as much as we love them, traveling with pets brings along a unique set of challenges.
We've been RVing with our fur babies (both cats and dogs) for more than 10 years now. We've learned a lot along the way. So this episode is all about RVing with pets: pet health and safety, getting pets used to traveling, and where we keep the litter box!

In the last episode, we talked about how we plan our RV travels. But no matter how much you plan and how perfect the trip looks on paper, sometimes things can and do go wrong. So today we're talking about something that RVing has taught us: Over the years, we've learned to expect the unexpected!
Like we mention this week, we've experienced the trifecta of issues that most RVers fear the most...

In our last podcast episode, we talked all about our ever-growing bucket list. We recently checked off one of our bucket list worthy destinations when we visited beautiful, historic Savannah, Georgia!
We spent a week exploring Savannah, and we quickly learned that 7 days is not nearly enough to fully experience everything that this beautiful and historic city has to offer. So this week, we're talking about our first trip to Savannah: where we stayed in our RV, what we did while we were there, and how we saved money and found a ton of interesting attractions to visit during our stay.
Spoiler Alert: We absolutely LOVED Savannah and will definitely be back!

When we became full-time RVers, we thought that we would quickly check items off our bucket list. While that is true to an extent, the reality is that as we have traveled, our bucket list has continued to grow. In fact, like our friend and fellow full time RVer, Deb, says: our Bucket List has become a "Barrel List" because our bucket overfloweth.
In this episode, we're talking all about bucket lists! What makes something bucket list worthy? How do you find these places? Does a place need to be a major icon (like a National Park) to be included on a bucket list? Does it even need to be a place? And how do we plan our travels to check things off of our list?

We were RVers for many years before we attended our first RV rally. We had no idea what to expect from a rally, that there were different kinds and sizes of rallies or if an RV rally was worth the time and money. We attended our first RV rally in 2019 and have participated in many since. We have come to really enjoy RV rallies and always look forward to experiencing new rally groups.
In this episode, we discuss the different rallies we have attended, the benefits of each and what types of rallies we plan to sign up for in the future.

We sit down with our good friends, Brett Davis and Angie Morell. Brett is the Founder, President and CEO of National Indoor RV Centers (NIRVC) and Angie is the National Director of Sales. They share some background history on Angie and how she became the YouTube Star and face of NIRVC that we have all come to know and love over the years.
If you have watched motorhome tour videos on YouTube, then you have surely seen Angie's videos. She is every bit as friendly, warm and personable in person as she appears on video. We are proud to call her a friend and we are happy to be customers.
Folks who know that we know Angie often ask us what she is like "in real life". It was so much fun sitting down with Angie and Brett for this episode to learn more about the person behind the videos.

One of our ongoing goals for years is to live a healthier life. Like many folks, we are always working to take steps to improve our health and hopefully gain active years of life together.
This week, we're sharing some of the steps we have taken over the years to be healthier. We thought that the process would become easier when we became full-time RVers, but that wasn't the case. We still have to work at it every day and make positive, healthy choices. Healthy living is an ongoing process for us and we are certainly not perfect. But in this episode, we talk about some of the healthy choices that work for us.

This week, we introduce you to our friend, Jason Mabie, also known as The Headlight Guy! Jason is a great RV technician with over 20 years of experience in the industry. He is part of the team at Master Tech RV Custom Coach and Marine in Elkhart, Indiana. Since the age of 16 years old, Jason's passion has been headlights. And today, amongst his many RV related skills, Jason Mabie is the Headlight Guy.
We talk with Jason about how he became so interested in headlights and how he has become an expert in RV headlight replacement and customization. He also shares the importance of good headlights, even for those of us who prefer not to drive at night, and the difference between standard RV headlights and aftermarket upgrades.
As we mentioned in this episode, this is NOT a paid endorsement. We paid Master Tech RV for all of the recent modifications to our 2021 Newmar New Aire (including new headlights handbuilt by Jason!). We are extremely happy with the thoroughness and attention to detail that Jason and the staff at Master Tech RV have given to us and our motorhome.
In our Texas Tidbit this week, Stacie talks about the official and not-so-official symbols of Texas (including some submitted by our audience).
And in Tom's ABCs of RVing: H is for Hula Skirt?!?

This week, we sit down to visit with Tim and Austin Klenk, father and son team at Master Tech RV Custom Coach and Marine in Elkhart, Indiana. We first met Tim and Austin when we attended their seminar at the FMCA Rally in Minot, North Dakota back in 2019. From that point forward we knew they were the right folks to install our dream RV solar and lithium battery system.

Where the heck have we been?? LOL It's been a few weeks since our last podcast episode. Sorry about that! Life has been pretty crazy for us over the past several weeks. And we have a lot to catch you up on.
This week we're talking about what it was like changing RVs as a full-time RVer. It was definitely a challenge! (Especially since our Tiffin Breeze sold a full month before our Newmar New Aire was ready for us!) In this episode, we share how we met the challenge and what we did with all of our stuff while we were between RVs. Would we do it again?
We also talk a bit about where we are today, our recent RV road trip, what we're up to and what you can look forward to in the next podcast episode.
This week's Texas Tidbit: historic West Columbia, Texas.
And in the ABCs of RVing: G is for Grey Tank.

This week we talk about why we think Red Bay, Alabama is a special place for RVers. We've made Red Bay an annual stop for the past couple of years. This small town, founded in 1907, is full of good, honest, friendly and hard-working folks... many of whom are highly skilled at every type of work under the sun when it comes to motorhomes.
Red Bay AL is home to Tiffin Motorhomes and the Tiffin Motorhomes service center. So you will always see a ton of Tiffins, old and new around town. But, many of the vendors and RV service shops in and around Red Bay are happy to use their talents to work on, repair or improve just about any type of RV.
We share our thoughts on Red Bay and its people, where to stay when in town, where we like to eat, and fun things to do in the area.
In our Texas Tidbit this week, did you know that a Texas road trip can take you practically around the world? (and actually beyond!)
And in the ABCs of RVing: F is for Fresh Water Tank.

In this episode, we share our recent experience at the FMCA (Family Motorcoach Association) Convention in Perry, Georgia. The organization welcomes all types of RVs, both motorized and towable. Each year they hold 2 big rallies, which they call conventions; one in the Spring and one in the Summer. The Perry rally was our second big FMCA rally. We attended the FMCA convention in Minot, North Dakota in August 2019.
We share what to expect from an FMCA rally, what we enjoy most, and tips for attending a big RV rally like an FMCA convention.
In our Texas Tidbit this week, we talk about Texas State Parks returning to "normal capacity". What does that really mean? Are all parks completely open and fully operational right away? And what do we expect for the coming weeks?
And in the ABCs of RVing: E is for Egress!
