Our kids don’t usually say "I feel disconnected mom." Usually they act out. They cry. They yell. Some get violent. Some withdraw. What they are trying to say is "I'm feeling disconnected, I'm feeling unloved."
We are not capable of making our children or our spouse feel connected. That is out of our control. But we can do things that motivate connection, and we can feel connected to them, even if we think they might not feel connected to us. Talking about how to do that today!

I'm still me, no matter what labels I have. My mental health affects me, but it doesn't define me. I still have a choice in everything I do, and I'm still as much me as I was before I had a diagnosis. Now I understand myself so much better and have a lot more compassion for myself and others.

Miranda Waltons Poem
Wasted Hours
I wasted an hour one morning
Beside a mountain stream.
I seized a cloud from the sky above and fashioned myself a dream.
In the hush of the early twighlight, far from the haunts of men,
I wasted a summer evening
And fashioned my dream again.
Wasted? Perhaps. Folks say so. P
Who never have walked with God.
When lanes are dotted with flowers
Or yellow with golden rod.
But I have found strength for my labors
In that one short evening hour
I have found joy and contentment
I have found peace and power.
My dreaming has left me a treasure,
A hope that is strong and true.
From wasted hours I have built
My life and faith anew.

Don’t believe me? It’s just a thought.
So I was wrong in thinking that our goal in thought work is to make everything positive. It's not. The goal is to make us aware of what is so we can use our agency to help determine what will be. And surprisingly, more often then not, the more Intentional we become the more power we have over our results.

I used to worry a lot. I worried that my girls were going to die in their sleep. I worried they'd be kidnapped. I worried that I might lose my temper. I worried that I wasn't good enough to be a mom. I felt guilty and worried that I wasn't enjoying being a mother like I should be. I felt like I was missing out on something.
Years later I realized that the kind of parent I am can be defined, but it wasn’t in the way I originally thought. What I was experiencing was a problem in thinking.

Are other people causing your problems? Are they the problem? Could we solve the problems in our lives if everyone else shaped up? Can we solve the problems in our lives if they don't? Can we who we want to be, even if no one around us changes their behavior?
I'm excited to tell you that YES! We can. We can be a great parent, even if our kids yell "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!" As they run up the stairs. We can still be a great parent even when our children blatantly disobey us.
Remember you always have an opportunity to choose!

I actually recorded this episode first, just to get going. It explains that YOUR thoughts are creating your results. Not your parents. not your spouse, not your children or coworkers and not even God is determining your results. You determine your results. God gave you the gift of agency and he gave you permission to choose your thoughts, your beliefs and by consequence, your results.
This is fantastic news because if it's just a thought you can change your mind, and what I'm here to tell you is
When You intentionally change your mind, You will change your life!
