Paul not only addressed arrogance in the church at Corinth but gave a measurement by which each one could discern the arrogance within his heart. When we cling to our knowledge, we become arrogant. When we love God, we are loved by Him and seek to edify others.
Paul wants the church at Corinth to be happy and shares exactly how. Paul, who endured great persecution, imprisonment, torture, hatred, and the anger of others, shares the secret to his own happiness in Christ.

Paul admonished the local church in Corinth not to pursue self-desire but, instead, to be devoted to Christ. We cannot follow Christ’s desires and our own. We cannot serve Christ’s preferences and our own. We can only have one king.

In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul distinguishes the purposes of singleness and marriage, gets at the nature of marriage, and the veracity of singleness. Each Christian is gifted according to God’s calling.

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. We are either married to our sin or to Christ, and we cannot be married to both. We either try to identify ourselves or submit to Christ because we are identified with Him.

Offended people offend people. In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul turns his attention from matters of sin requiring church discipline to matters of personal offense, which call for unconditional forgiveness.

In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul gives two instructions:
- Judge those in the local church
- Don’t judge those outside the local church
Those who are outside the local church will be judged by God. Those who are members of the local church have covenanted with the local church body for the purpose of sanctification.

On Sunday, Andrew preached 1 Corinthians 5:1-8, a passage in which Paul instructed the church to judge, excommunicate, and condemned the sin of porneia.
Paul claimed that the kingdom of God is not an ethereal or compartmentalized religion but an all-encompassing, efficacious kingdom manifest in and through the local church.

In 1 Corinthians 4, Paul admonishes the congregation toward humility. What is the secret to humility? It is recognizing that any true knowledge we have is not original. Yet, we boast as if we have developed profound teaching.

The local church is a temple. Whoever destroys the local church, God will destroy him. To the local church belongs all things.

This week, Andrew presented 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 and preached about the wisdom of God–which is different than the wisdom of the world. The wisdom of the world perishes with people who perish. The wisdom of God is imperishable.
Paul was intelligent and informed about politics, philosophy, and culture. Yet, he determined to know nothing but Christ, and Christ crucified. Why?
P.A. preached this morning from Psalm 139, challenging us to be the church and share the Gospel within our circles.
God is making the wise things of the world foolish and the mighty things of the world weak. The Gospel is a stumbling block to those who ask for signs and foolishness to those who seek wisdom.
Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to build the church up to unity through maturity in knowledge and mind.
