We continued our Author’s @ McMillan Series with author Jim Cobb talking about his book Countdown to Preparedness.
If you want to know what you need and how to prepare for an event that keeps you stuck at home for an extended time, such as storms, power outage, or financial problems, then this podcast is for you! Jim Cobb walks us through actionable steps to be prepared for surviving in your home unexpectedly.
Bio: Jim Cobb is a nationally recognized authority on disaster readiness and emergency preparedness. He has written nine books to date and is the Editor in Chief for Prepper Survival Guide and Backwoods Survival Guide magazines. Jim has worked extensively with Panteao Productions on a series of instructional videos as well. He lives in Wisconsin with his wife, children, and an assortment of critters.

Today we bring you a special presentation of short stories read to you by the authors. In July we had a flash fiction contest here at the library. Participants had to stop into the library to use our manual typewriter to write their piece of flash fiction. They got one page of paper, a typewriter, and their brain: that’s it.
In third place: Patti Whisman will read her story, “Saturn.” In second place: Diane Whisman will read her story, “Last Transmission.” In first place: Rick Humphreys will read his story, “My Green-striped Couch.”

Today Teen Librarian Jennie Bahnaman talks with local author Lisl Detlefsen. They talk about Lisl’s children’s book writing, publishing, and more. It’s always great to hear how an author creates and imagines the words and worlds we love so much.

Today we talk to local man Dale Horn who boxed out of the Wisconsin Rapids Boxing Club. I came to start talking to him as he was doing some research on his old boxing bouts using the library’s microfilm reels of old newspapers. His story intrigued me, so asked him if he would do a podcast when he was finished.

Greg and Jen Seymour gave a presentation for our Author's @ McMillan Series.
The Appalachian Trail is the longest continuous hiking-only trail in the United States. Starting in Georgia and ending in Maine, the “AT” traverses 2200 miles through 14 states and takes the average “thru-hiker” six months to complete.
Greg and Jen Seymour completed the trail over 179 days in 2017. In this presentation they will discuss answers to the following questions (and more): Why the heck would you want to do that? What did you eat? How much did your pack weigh? Where did you sleep? What about bears? How often did you shower? What about lightning storms?
Join the couple for an entertaining evening discussing all aspects of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Well here it is, a mixtape of music created by staff, and South Central Wisconsin community members. Mostly created with the software the library uses in its recording studio, which is Logic Pro X.The recording studio is open during open makerspace hours for you to come work on projects using our iMac with Logic Pro X, Focusrite audio interface, and Shure SM7b microphones.

We have Tarah Mancl on, who is a yoga instructor at the Wellness Barn, located right across the street from the library in Wisconsin Rapids. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher through YogaFit; also a registered member of Yoga Alliance.
On January 15th Tarah will be teaching a class, “Gentle Yoga with Tarah Mancl” It will be a gentle vinyasa flow for the body, mind and spirit. In this practice we synchronize breath with movement through a flowing series of basic asanas and sequences. This gentle flow is designed to develop balance, build strength and increase flexibility, leaving students with reduced stress, inner calm, and heightened awareness. All levels welcome, modifications will be offered.

An ML is a municipal liaison, someone who has previously written 50,000 words during a NaNoWriMo and now is helping out others in various ways. Today we here from our ML, Sarah.
