We've got three months to go before we vote for a new governor. And subsequent to the big-party primaries in July, most Marylanders are thinking that they face a stark choice limited to Democratic and Republican candidates who represent the very best or the very worst of the two parties, depending on how you look at it. But there ARE other voices out there. In this podcast, Tim sits with two of the more interesting voices out there, 1) Jerome Segal, who is founder of Bread & Roses Socialism, ran for Governor in the Democratic primary, and is now running for President against Joe Biden, and 2) David Lashar, the Libertarian Party candidate for Maryland Governor this fall. It was a good coversation between three people with different political views but a common passion for civil debate on both general philosophy and specific issues.

We've entered election season with just slightly over three months until we vote for a new governor. We're a solid-blue state that does not shy away from electing moderate Republicans. So the two major parties generally suck the air out of the room, leaving little for other candidates. That means that we rarely get to hear new ideas and perspectives. Tim sat down a couple of days before the primaries to chat with two gubanatorial cadidates...Jerome Segal, a Socialist who ran on the Democratic ticket (and is now running for President of the United States) and David Lashar, a Libertarian who ran for Congress during the last election. It was a good conversation between three people with different perspectives on politics who may agree here and there.

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it's a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20....we don't have any kind of plan. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

It's not the Christmas season until Paula Poundstone comes to Rams Head on Stage ! This year, she will be in town for two shows on December 18. Tim and Paula are now best friends (probably) since they chat around this time every year. This time, we covered surviving the COVID lockdown, kids and social media, Twitter, cats (which is de rigueur at this point), and the release of her new album, "Paula Goes to College (for one night only)." We also talk more about her hilarious weekly podcast, No One Listens to Paula Poundstone.

This week, Cassie, Lauren and Bill from Katcef Brothers Inc. are in the flesh and we relish getting socially distant together!

What's on tap this month? Football, seltzers and the warning that there will be peppermint and gingerbread flavored ones on the horizon (yuk). Bud Light Platinum now has a seltzer too along with an alcohol free Bud Zero.

We also touch base on the Golden Goat Ultimate Bud Light Tailgate Giveaway.  Details are right here and the odds are good!

Despite the lack of events, there is a lot going on in the world of beer.  And speaking of events--the Military Bowl tells us that they are planning to move forward so ... stay tuned!

Just because our local Oktoberfests have been cancelled along wth the real Oktoberfest is no reason that we can't start thinking about the delicious fall beers and the team at Katcef Brothers Inc teases us a little bit with a Spaten-Devils Backbone collaboration.

We also hit on Cutwater's international tequila award and marvel at how well Bud LIght Seltzer contines to do with the intro of three nw flavors--pineapple, cranberry, and grapefruit.

September 18th is Global Beer Responsibility Day and I am searching Hallmark for a card... but locally, you want to stay tuned to Eye On Annapolis and Katcef Brothers for a fun promotion this fall that could score you a wild tailgate party....when we can do that again! :(

Enjoy and cheers!

Travis Pastrana never rests.

If he is not racing, jumping, building a stunt, or chasing down his two daughters, you can probably be sure he's working on something new.  And we caught up with him to find out!

Enter Circuit 199 in Sudlersville.  It's a state of the art racing facility  to train top drivers and to teach the new batch. It's a Progression Park where FMX, BMX, and skateboarders can hone their skills and take them to the next level. And it's a Pump Track and skills course to promote fitness to youth using the track for bicycles, skateboards, or scooters.   And of course there is plenty of other entertainment planned as well.

When Travis brought Nitro Circus here in 2017 it meant the world to him to finally perform at home.  And now he wants to continue giving back to Maryland--his home.

Circuit 199 could open as early as next spring, but the target is to be open by 2022.

Have a listen and get excited!

The Class of 2020 is ending their high school or college life in a weird time. The job market is questionable. The stock market is questionable. And we are in the midst of a pandemic. Without a doubt, it is a tough time; but also without a doubt, our young adults graduating this year will overcome this and thrive--we're counting on it. And today we have some help.

Sarah Ryan is the Head of Community Outreach for SECU (formerly known as the State Employee's Credit Union) and she has perhaps the greatest gift we can give our graduates--some financial thoughts to savings and the future.  We talk about the work SECU is doing in the community and for their members (it's pretty easy to be a member); but she gives some solid suggestions for gifts for today's graduates that will change their financial world!

Last September, we spoke with Larry Bradshaw who is the CEO of National Lutheran Communities & Services and the man behind the project now known as The Village at Providence Point in Annapolis. A lot has happened since then and today, we check in with Bradshaw as the project seems to be headed into the final stretch of the approval process.

Today we learned that they has submitted their plans to the City of Annapolis after working with the Stop Crystal Springs (opposition group) and the City to address most of the concerns. There are two remaining concerns that are still undecided as it is a decision (guidance) that needs to be provided by the City. If all goes well, Bradshaw thinks that construction might be able to start in the early part of 2022.

While on the same property, this is NOT anywhere close to the same project as Crystal Springs. Along with a change of names to The Village at Providence Point, this project has been downsized in the number of residents and in the general footprint of the project.

We've been stuck in our houses for the past five years now...or at least it feels like it. As every possible commercial has mentioned in the past few weeks, "we are in uncertain times." Tim talks with Dr. Tom Muha, founder of the Propel Institute and weekly columnist for the Capital for the past thirty years, about how to change your frame of mind to meet this unprecedented challenge.

For two months in a row, we are off the rails, but with good reason! First, there's a pandemic!  Second, this was all recorded from a Zoom call. And third, most all of what we wanted to talk about has been canceled or postponed! So, we punted and talks about coping, about what Budweiser is doing from a corporate level to help out America. And what Katcef Brothers is doing to help out our own community. Let's just say that Betsy Ross has NOTHING on these guys!

We are all in this together!  As businesses are (for the most part) shuttered, we wanted to catch up with Steve Samaras from Zachary's Jewelers to talk about a video series he has created and to find out how Zachary's is doing during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

If there ever was a man who sees the positive in a tough situation it is Steve who was burned out of his store 15 years ago the day after Thanksgiving, survived the recession of 2008 and now the COVID-19 virus.

Aside from keeping all of his employees working, to cutting Constance Polamalu (who joined us on the call) loose to develop a new e-commerce business model with virtual appointments, while maintaining the Zachary's model of customer service.

But more importantly, with some time on his hands, Steve and his wife Challie have been visiting their favorite places around town and explaining why there is such love--a One Love for Annapolis.

We are in uncharted waters, folks. Between cable news and social media, there is an avalanche of information, innuendo, and speculation coming in. It's exhausting and scary. So John and Tim decided to practice some social distancing and call a bunch of people to talk about what's going on over Facebook Live. It was a busy one. Go to All Annapolis on Facebook to watch Saturday's broadcast.

We started with Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot to see what the state has been doing up to this point and what is planned next. Steuart Pittman, Anne Arundel County Executive, was up next to talk about business assistance as well as public safety, followed by Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley who let us know what this this means to our tourism-based business community.

Katie Redmiles of Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts introduced "Pay It Forward to the Arts" to help both businesses affected, as well as our arts community. Monica Alvarado, owner of Bread and Butter Kitchen in Eastport, talked about what they are doing to help the community and their employees during this business shutdown. Heritage Baptist Church, on Forest Drive, has always been front and center when it comes to meeting the needs of the community, and this time is no exception. Pastor Scott Shelton talks about their food pantry and the best way people can contribute.

What does this mean for businesses? Jared Littman, owner of K&B True Value and former Ward 5 Alderman, talks about what they are doing to serve the community as an essential business and what he is doing to protect employees. Small business owners are being hit particularly hard. Denise Pearson, owner and proprietor of Paradise Float Spa in Eastport, has shut down completely until this crisis ends. What does this mean to people in her shoes? Jeff Jacobs, owner of the iconic family business, Carrol's Creek, has also shut down restaurant for the duration. Some of his employees have been with him for decades, and wait until what you hear what is doing for them! And finally, we end on a positive note when we chat with Kimario Ballyntine, a server at 49 West, located in Inner West Street. Yes, he's out of work amidst a global pandemic, but he is incredibly upbeat and positive, and his attitude is infectious! In a good way.

We're talking weed again! Caroline Phillips joins us for the fourth time (even though we said third when recording) to talk about the National Cannabis Festival coming to RFK on April 18th.

Now in it's 5th year, the festival has grown from a single day with 5,000 attendees to a two day affair with a FREE policy summit on the Friday April 17th to the festival on the 18th expected to draw more than 25,000 advocates, educators, legislators, and those just looking to learn a lot more.

Yes it is a fun time, but as the push for legal cannabis moves across the US, there are more and more questions and a greater need for education!

We also hop on the phone with two industry experts....Lucas Hale from Curaleaf, a national company that is involved with every step of marijuana from growing to dispensing to distributing. And also, Warren Lemley from Peake Releaf which is a locally owned dispensary in Rockville, MD. Both were a wealth of information and both will be at the festival on April 18th!

As to the festival, this year you can expect more advocacy, more education, more music, more vendors, more food, and pretty much more of everything.

Have a listen and get all of your information on the National Cannabis Festival website!

Note to self: The cannabis industry is very punny!

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it's a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20....we don't have any kind of plan. In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!

Paula Poundstone is back for her annual December visit to Rams Head on Stage on December 6 for two shows. Tim and Paula chat about climate change, Facebook fights, the tense political climate, feisty daughters, passive-aggressive Thanksgiving attacks, and, of course, cats. Paula also cranks out a hilarious weekly podcast, No One Listens to Paula Poundstone and is a frequent panel guest on NPR's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!

When it comes to health insurance, Tim is an idiot. In fact, let's face it, a lot of people are. Everyone has a strong opinion about the Affordable Care Act, but few could actually explain what it means. That's where the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange comes in. Tim sits down with Executive Director, Michelle Eberle, who patiently explains what the MHBE does and what it means to your healthcare as a Marylander.

The performance is FREE at Maryland Hall on January 15, 2020. Tickets are not yet available, so keep your ears open.

But, their other venture is coming up at Maryland Hall-- An Open Mic Night -- A Tribute to 90s R&B featuring Tao Soprano from Dru Hill! Tickets are available now for the November 21st evening at the Bowen Theater at Maryland Hall.

City Dock in Annapolis has been studied to death. About the only thing that everyone can agree upon is that a parking lot is not the best use.

Last year, after a political firestorm placed City Dock on an endangered watchlist by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the parties came together. The City of Annapolis, the non-profit Historic Annapolis, and all of the various constituents (92 of them) have been working for nearly a year to re-imagine the area and are about to release that plan for adoption and implementation.

This plan has a great chance of working for a number of reasons. Have a listen as we talk about it with Eileen Fogarty and Bill Kardash who are the co-chairs of the City Dock Action Committee!

We all have bucket lists. Tim wants to find proper New York pizza in Maryland. John would love to find a podcasting partner who isn't allergic to work. We can all dream. But "100 Things to Do in Annapolis and the Eastern Shore Before You Die" by Susan Moynihan is the ultimate Maryland bucket list!

Susan moved to Annapolis when she was 13, and her best coming-of-age memories are here. She moved to NYC after college, but Annapolis was always home, albeit for shorter bits of time: Christmas break, two weeks in summer, spring or fall weekends as work and life allowed.

In 2018 she moved back to Annapolis, and found her hometown familiar, but different. She wanted to get to know it on a deeper level, so she went to her go-to: writing. She spent six months researching this book, driving all over Annapolis and the Eastern Shore, talking to old friends and making new ones, revisiting longtime favorites and searching out surprises.

It's controversial. The HPV vaccine. Some say it will prevent cancer. Others are not so sure. In the summer of 2018 (41 episodes ago) we spoke with Josh Mazer, an Annapolis resident, who questions the vaccine's effectiveness, the studies behind it, and the manner in which it is marketed.

His episode was controversial to say the least.

We were contacted by the producers of the 2014 film, Someone You Love: The HPV Epidemic refuting much of what Mazer said. We offered to do an additional podcast from their point of view; yet never received a reply.

But there are two sides to each story. So here we are!

In the past year, Mazer has continued his research and has more doubts and questions. We brought in Dr. Michael Freedman from Evolve Medical Clinics to balance it out and offer a medical perspective.

This episode, is a little ok, who are we kidding, it's a LOT long, but compelling as the two confront and rebuke each other.

In the end, the controversy continues and the general consensus is that the HPV shot (like any vaccine) should be a decision made by parents and their children's doctors.

One important takeaway is that we all agree that pharmaceutical companies should NOT be incentivizing medical practitioners to sell their drugs!

Sit back, and have a listen--we brought the mud and oil!

In May of 2017 we spoke with Larry Bradshaw who is the CEO of National Lutheran Communities & Services and the man behind the project now known as The Village at Providence Point in Annapolis. Today, we check in with Bradshaw as the project starts to gel up and move through the approval process.

Today we learned that they are accepting deposits (more than 100 so far) and construction could begin in early 2021. They have addressed the four main issues their opponents have cited--traffic, environment, drainage, and tree canopy. And they have been working with the City to address their most recent submission and the comments surrounding it.

While on the same property, this is NOT anywhere close to the same project as Crystal Springs. Along with a change of names to The Village at Providence Point, this project has been downsized in the number of residents and in the general footprint of the project.

The new Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson might be new in town, but he is a seasoned veteran when it comes to law enforcement, as he spent twenty years in the Baltimore Police Department, working his way up from a officer walking the beat to colonel. Chief Jackson marks a change in tack by Mayor Gavin Buckley who wanted a chief who could connect with the community and identify the subtleties of policing a town as diverse and unique as Annapolis.

John and Tim sat down with Chief Jackson to talk about where he came from and what he sees as his role as Annapolis' top cop. How will his strategy be different from his predecessors? What does community policing look like under his leadership? Why would he agree to sit down with us, considering The Curse of the Maryland Crabs in regards to police chiefs? Can Tim hold his gun? It sounds a bit like a device you might see advertised on late night television-- Lifeline 100. Might even be a new hospital reality show. But it is anything but that.

Now in its sixth year, Lifeline 100 is the brainchild of Bike AAA and Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Department. It is a 100 mile bike ride that covers all corners of the county. But for those (me) not even close to being in shape to ride 100 miles, there are shorter routes--60 miles, 30 miles, 15 miles, and for the kids a bike rodeo! It is a fundraiser for several non-profits and many local businesses get in on the game. It all get started at Kinder Farm Park on Sunday, October 6th!

We talked with Colleen Joseph from the Recreation and Parks Department and get the scoop.

Looking to ride with a group? Join ours! Send me an email message at info@themarylandcrabs.com. We're doing the ALL TRAIL 30 mile ride and likely the additional 10 mile BWI trail for a total of 40. Start about 8am, guaranteed to be having beers by 1pm. Join us on Sunday, October 67th for Lifeline 100?

OK, right up front, this is not an upbeat crabcake. Not by a long shot! But it is a conversation we need to have. Suicide rates are on the increase at alarming rates and treating the mental issues that cause suicide need to be enhanced.

This week is National Suicide Prevention Week.

We sat down with Kat Olbrich who is the Area Director for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Dean D'Camera, a local businessman whose brother committed died by suicide fourteen years ago. We talk about the problem, what is currently being done, and what still remains. We learn what YOU can do when you suspect someone may be in trouble.

And we learn how you can help. The easiest way it to come out to the Annual Out of the Darkness Walk on September 21st at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. If you can, form a team and raise some much needed funds. If you can't, please come out and support and walk with 2000 others that have been impacted by suicide. As Dean says in the podcast, Kevin Bacon has six degrees of separation--suicide has one!

Transportation is changing. We are hearing talks about autonomous vehicles fifty years down the road; but in the here and now, we have electric vehicles.

Elvia Thompson the founder of Annapolis Green joins us with Divesh Gupta who is the Director of Strategy | Utility of the Future for BGE.

Annapolis Green is bringing more than 70 electric vehicles to City Dock in Annapolis on June 14th for the 7th Annual Electric Vehicle Showcase.  This is your chance to kick the tires and batteries of today's electric vehicles. Chat up the owners and get all those doubts out of your head!

There will be sport cars, family cars, motorcycles, police cars and even a bus from BGE.

And speaking of BGE, Divesh discusses the newest initiative from BGE--installing 500 charging stations in their service area. The first one was just installed last week at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center right here in Annapolis.

Have a listen. See how easy (and affordable) owning an electric vehicle can be, and then make sure you head on down to the Annapolis City Dock on June 14th from 11am to 5pm!

For a moment, imagine that you are hearing the phone ring and dreading another telemarketer call. Now imagine that same phone ringing tomorrow--but you cannot hear it!

That happened to Annapolis resident, Jacob Landis, at age 9. With no answers as to why he went deaf, his family embarked on a journey that ended with Jacob betting a cochlear implant to regain his hearing.

But Jacob's journey continued. He wanted to give this gift to others and six years ago embarked on a fund raising bike ride to all MLB stadiums to raise money for implants for others. He raised $180,000.

But his journey continues today. After three more cross country rides, Jacob and his foundation, Jacob's Ride have funded cochlear implants for 16 individuals. But there are 12 on the waiting list and he can use your help.

You can share his story. You can attend the Celebration by the Bay on September 21st, or you can simply donate. Imagine how beautiful the sound of a telemarketer calling truly is.

Please listen as we speak with Jacob (and for a minute, his father Randy) about his loss of hearing and how a kid from Admiral Heights is making a difference in the lives of many!

Today, Tim is on the phone with John Shields, who is been called the "Culinary Ambassador of the Chesapeake Bay." Aside from being the owner of Gertrude's Chesapeake Kitchen at the Baltimore Museum of Art, John has written multiple cookbooks on the cuisine of the Chesapeake region. The host of PBS’s "Chesapeake Bay Cooking" and "Coastal Cooking with John Shields", his work has appeared in The New York Times, the Washington Post, Coastal Living, and Southern Living. He is a frequent guest on WYPR radio, local TV and at public events.

John's newest book, The New Chesapeake Kitchen was released in October, 2018. Here, John’s decades of exploring and championing the Chesapeake region are presented in a volume that articulates his essential philosophy, as well as his commitment to, and love for the Chesapeake—its land and waters, its people, its history, and its food traditions.

Thank you to Ann Alsina, principal at Covington-Alsina in Annapolis, for allowing Tim to take over your conference room for a couple of hours. And we apologize in advance, because he plans on making a habit out of it.

Infertility. It is a problem that many people face for any number of reasons. There are a number of ways to deal with it including adoption and In Vitro Fertilization. But what about surrogacy?

This week, John speaks with Becky Morgan and Perla Piekutowski from the Center for Surrogate Parenting right here in Annapolis. What does it take to be a surrogate, and more importantly, what to expect when you are looking to start a family by surrogacy. The process is complex, but in the end worth it.

The cannabis wave is sweeping the country with medical marijuana being legalized state by state, seemingly by the day. Can recreational weed be next? But here's the catch-22...although growers, processors, and distributors are making money hand over fist, banking that money is extraordinarily difficult due to onerous and vague federal regulations. That's where Solvent comes in.

John and Tim sit down with Brian Meyer and Tony Richards, two of the five cofounders of this Annapolis financial tech startup that is determined to simplify and revolutionize the banking aspect of the cannabis industry using proprietary tools and processes. We did not get high. Unfortunately.

John sent Tim, unaccompanied, to The Guinness Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House in Halethorpe to have a pint or two with Ryan Wagner, Brewery Ambassador. Alone. Without any supervision. To a place with Guinness.

Hands down--the most fun I have had recording a podcast ever! I mean really--sitting in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay IN the Thomas Point Light House...how could it be anything else?

Today, we talk with John Potvin who is a local resident that happens to be the Preservation Foreman for the US Lighthouse Society who is in charge of basically making sure the iconic landmark is in top shape!

We discuss how you can get out and INTO the lighthouse yourself (go to the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park), the history of the lighthouse from the light keepers to the Coast Guard to today, the financial needs of the lighthouse which are many (there is a GoFund Me along with a generous matching donor), and the great group of volunteers from the Annapolis Woodworking Guild that put in more than 2000 volunteer hours every year to make sure that the lighthouse remains true to its origins.

Leadership Anne Arundel is having a big year. Not only are they celebrating twenty-five years of service this June, but they have welcomed Kris Valerio Shock as their new President and CEO.

Thousands of local elected officials, business owners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders have graduated from the highly-esteemed Leadership Anne Arundel program over the past quarter century, and Kris sits down with the Crabs to talk about where the organization has been, where it is now, and where it is going. And, in the process, she might be able to talk John into joining the next class.

If you are an alumnus of the program, or are interested in possibly joining, come out to the 25 Year Celebration on June 24 at Live! Casino and Hotel.

And hey, check out the Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief! Ten minutes every day at 7am will bring you up to speed on all the LOCAL issues, sports, weather, events and opinions in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Here's your link... http://bit.ly/EOA-DNB

This special episode has been a long time in the making. Last year, the Key School was rocked with allegations of sexual abuse by faculty over a period that spanned decades. They hired a firm to look into it and issue a report.

Today, we speak with two alumni who experienced abuse (in different decades) to present their stories. We hear why they feel the report is only scratching the surface of the problem, what the school must do moving forward, and how they are coping.

NOTE: After release, there was one minor edit. At the 32:00 mark a characterization was made about the funeral and was followed by a comment stating that she was not there. We removed the characterization.

In 1997, James Borchelt had an idea. Gather 4 local bands. Have them play a street festival for free and give away the money. Seemed reasonable. And THAT was the start of Eastport A Rockin. Maybe 700 people attended to hear The Kelly Bell Band, The Eastport Oyster Boys, Jepetto and Non-Fiction.

Fast forward to THIS WEEKEND--- June 22nd!

Now, 23 years later, it's grown ever so slightly under the tutelage of Borchelt, and successive organizers and literally thousands of volunteers. This year...this Saturday...there will be 40 bands on 4 stages. And crowds can still dance to The Kelly Bell Band and The Eastport Oyster Boys...along with Skribe, Sweet Leda, Sean Hetrick & the Leftovers, the Naptown Brass Band and the tunes of DJ Folly! PLUS, you can enjoy the cool breezes off Back Creek at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Listen in as we talk about this year's Eastport A Rockin with Director Jessica Pachler and Music Director Christina Willharm who have put together one fantastic Saturday! Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome (free admission) and tickets are available online and in advance. Save $5 with advance tickets which go off sale at midnight on Friday!

June is LBGTQ Month and Annapolis is gearing up for its first LGBTQ Pride Parade & Festival on Saturday, June 29th. To gear up for this momentous event, we present an encore presentation of our interview earlier this spring with organizer and Board Chair of Annapolis Pride, Jeremy Browning.

Annapolis Pride! It's a relatively new organization that has burst on the scene in a big way. Last year they had a Pride March for the LBGTQ community. And this year there will be a Pride Parade and Festival in Annapolis. Look for a Pride Night at the Bowie Baysox and many more events and gatherings.

We're proud (pardon the pun) to have the Annapolis Pride magnet on the back of our car and to support ALL of our neighbors.

Have a listen as we talk to the man behind the organization-- Jeremy Browning!

As for the beer... on tap (pun intended) is the line up of Stella, Floyds, Innis and Gunn, New Belgium, and Troegs! Warning, we go off topic quite a bit, but as Lauren said...have a great summer but "drink wiser" and be safe! Have a listen as this episode unfolds.

We also wanted to give our listeners a little insight to Red Maryland and what they do...from their killer website to their various podcasts/shows to the Red Maryland Leadership Conference.

You might or might not agree with them politically, but definitely check out what they are doing!

This week, John and Tim sit down with producer and director, R. Todd Stevens, creator of "Crownsville Hospital: From Lunacy to Legacy" , a feature-length documentary film highlighting the history of the Crownsville State Mental Hospital in Crownsville, MD. Drawing on many documentary works such as “The Thin Blue Line” and “Night and Fog” for inspiration, the film utilizes archival footage, animation and original music to unfold the story and evoke a mood.

Both exterior and interior present-day footage and photos have been combined with exterior/interior archival footage and photos to capture the changes to the hospital through its 96-year lifespan. In addition, interviews with historians and former hospital workers as well as patients help to round out the experience.

We all know about the big boys of conservation in the area. But you may not have known about the Scenic Rivers Land Trust. In a nutshell, they work to identify land that can be preserved in perpetuity and then work with the landowners to make it happen. One HUGE success is the Bacon Ridge Natural Area which encompasses nearly 1000 acres of wooded beauty!

And on April 27th, they are hosting several guided hikes in this incredible spot. It is free, but they do ask you to sign up.

Have a listen as we speak with Nina Fisher, the President of the Board of Directors and Sarah Knebel who is the Conservation Director. Learn what they do and what you can do to keep our area as ecologically sound as possible!

John O'Hurley carved his way into American pop culture in both television and film, most notably with his portrayal of the wildly eccentric character, "J. Peterman" on television's most popular comedy, "Seinfeld". He has starred on more than fifty television shows and two dozen films. He became one of America's most popular game show hosts with such classics as To Tell The Truth and Family Feud and is an accomplished author. It happens every year...well at least for the past seven years! The Annapolis Film Festival is bringing more than 70 films to Annapolis March 21st to 24th!

We sit down to talk to the producers of "Aleppo", a short film that attempts to change the narrative of how Syrians are depicted in the media, and ultimately change minds. By telling a story about one doctor's experience in Aleppo, they hope to shed light on the critical work of all doctors and victims of the war as it continues.

The film is about Hanan, a successful young Syrian-American doctor, who returns to Syria to help victims of war. When the hospital where she works is bombed, she suffers a traumatic brain injury that leaves her face blind. Unable to recognize the faces of even those closest to her, Hanan’s world has been turned upside down and her identity lost.

Now home in New York, Hanan has difficulty coming to terms with how her life has changed following the attack. Haunted by her trauma and struggling to adjust to her condition, Hanan must confront her fear of navigating the world, putting her identity, and her future as a doctor, in doubt.

Solace screens at 2:45pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at St. Johns College Key Auditorium!

And when you are done listening to this--go buy your passes and mark your calendars for the Annapolis Film Festival 2019!

It happens every year...well at least for the past seven years! The Annapolis Film Festival is bringing more than 70 films to Annapolis March 21st to 24th and we sat down with the founders once again to see what was in store for their seventh go around of this fantastic event that has brought millions to the area economy!

Tchaico Omawale is the writer, producer, and director of Solace. We spoke a little bit about the film and how real the characters are, the struggles they face and how they mimic some of her own as she was growing up as the child of a UN employee living across the globe. Solace is about a 17-year old girl, Sole, who is sent to live with her grandmother after her father's death. The relationship is toxic and the film examines the struggles between the two as Sole tries to find her way and her crew. It has been banded as a coming of age movie, but deep down, this is so much more! Omawale will be present at the screening and will be hosting a Q&A afterwards!

Solace screens at 2:45pm on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at St. Johns College Key Auditorium!
