Did you know?: the word "alphabet" was derived from the first two letters of the Greek...erm, alphabet. Which is, of course, alpha and beta.

The more you know...

Well that was pointless. Anywho, a good number of developers out there (mainly PC guys) like to have early release versions of their games, known as either "alpha" or "beta" versions, in order to test them for bugs and whatnot. But you guys probably knew that already. Point is, that's exactly what we talk about this episode, right after the usual stuff. Have fun.

That wasn't a suggestion. Have fun, or else...

And hey, be sure to check us out at www.gamepodunk.com. That wasn't a suggestion either...

It's been a long time. How have you been? I've been really busy being dead. You know, after you murdered me.

Alright, enough relevant GlaDOS quotes. After a week or two of no episodes, we finally return. And this time, Game Podunk's own Dr. Pixel is joining us! What's the episode about, you ask? Well, just stuff 'n' such. Mostly recent stuff, such as the Mighty No. 9, the 2DS, and a few upcoming games we want to play.

If you can count how many times Khorne curses in this episode, I'll give you a cookie.

But seriously (because hell no I'm not handing out my cookies), this episode is all about multiplayer. Because who doesn't love playing games with friends? Or complete strangers. Or angry 12-year-olds. Before we get into that, though, let's introduce this week's guest: John Kidman!

[insert generic applause here]

We begin our episode with the usual explanation as to where our free time went since last time before delving right into a big multiplayer discussion. Then we answer questions asked by a member of our humble community, which all have to do with co-op, adding even more multiplayer talk to the mix. Fun stuff.

This is basically an extension of the last episode, actually. We talked a bit about the future of gaming last week, but we never got around to answering our future-related questions. It also didn't help that we got some questions after the recording was over, but whatever. Point is, we decided to make an episode specifically for answering said questions. So here it is.

And hey, if you're interested, check us out at www.gamepodunk.com.

Whatever and stuff. Gaming something something, blah blah blah blah something something something.

So the future is a thing, right? Then let's talk about it. Technically TGP already touched on the topic, but there's a lot more that could be said. Plus, that was twelve episodes ago and didn't have me in it, so shut up. In any case, we do the usual talk about what games we're playing, then get into some future of gaming talk, discussing things like the future of the industry, the future of certain IPs, and certain video game analysts making poor predictions. There's more, but you'll have to listen 'cause I feel lazy.

And hey, if you're interested, check us out at www.gamepodunk.com.

If you came here looking for something dirty, listening to this three-man podcast will only disappoint. If you came here to listen, then good for you!

After we give our greetings, we say our goodbyes to a fellow co-host. It's sad, but life must go on, which is why we discuss the games we've been playing lately. Then we decide to talk about the odd decision to increase Lightning's breast size in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, as well as other devs' decisions to emphasize breast size and realism in their games. And after that nonsense involving Phil Fish scrapping Fez 2 after being insulted, we talk about that too, as well as other instances when emotions got in the way of game development.

What time is it? It's RPG time! We talk about RPGs this week because I DON'T KNOW! After we so courageously discuss what games we've been playing lately, we realize our destinies and talk all about RPGs, from how we feel about the genre, how we feel about the sub-genres, and what our first RPG was to our favorite RPGs, our favorite/least favorite character types, and what kind of RPG we would make if given the opportunity. There are a few questions related to RPGs as well, by the way. RPGs are cool.

With all this EVO happening, it's only natural that we'd do something relevant. So here it is! A fighting game episode. Starring this week's guest - fighting game aficionado Royzoga!

applause and apple sauce

After keeping you guys up-to-date on what games we've been playing, we go right into the fighting game genre, discussing things from our thoughts on the genre to our favorite fighting games to EVO. We also talk a bit about e-sports before diving into questions, which are all about fighting games too. Ready... FIGHT!

I died again. Or to be more specific, I went on a trip to a shady place without internet and haven't been heard from until now. In my stead, my posse dragged TKtheknight into this episode for his 25th birthday! I'm very sorry we couldn't give you a more worthwhile gift, TK...

But anyway, aside from a million billion F-bombs being dropped and censored, this episode has a few interesting topics being discussed. After the shocking reveal of whatever these guys have been playing, some Kickstarter talk happens, in which the crew discuss the current state of the service. Then the gang talk about expansion packs and whatnot before giving their opinions on game critic awards. Lastly, New Zealand Khorner gets interrupted and replaced with a TK Corner, apparently.

Do you ever become addicted to games? We do sometimes. Maybe. Okay, so we get super-addicted to everything all the time, so what? WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?!

ahem

Anyway, this episode is all about video game addictions. After we unveil our recently played games, we get right into our discussion, which includes things from games the Podunkast crew gets addicted to to games that other gamers tend to get addicted to and so on. We also answer a community question while Khorne attempts to find something to talk about for New Zealand Khorner.

There are times when I question the kind of stuff we talk about on this show... I mean, I can understand baby bones, but games? Seriously?!

Anyway, in this episode we discuss the recent Xbox One backpedal and talk about progression systems in games (EXP, skill trees, seamless level design, etc.). Then we answer a few questions asked by our lovely community as Khorne prepares to tell you all about the great New Zealand.

And hey, if you're interested, check us out at www.gamepodunk.com.

Note: Please keep in mind while listening that this was recorded before the recent Xbox One backpedal.

This episode is a bit longer than usual because our discussion lasted longer than expected and I didn't want to take out too much.

BUT ALSO SHUT UP WE'RE REBELS.

What kind of discussion is it, you (didn't really) ask? Why E3, of course! In this episode, following talk about the games we're playing, we put everything on the table and give our opinions on E3 2013. And then we answer a couple of questions asked by our lovely community and Khorne says a bit about his country. That's New Zealand, by the way.

At long last, a certain Marshall has decided to show up for work. Why is that, you ask? Well, because he's a big fan of this week's guest host - Marcus Estrada!

cheers are heard near and far

In any case, this week's topic is perfect for our review fiend guest host. After we all discuss what games we've been playing, this episode is all about review scores, in which we discuss certain review practices, give our opinions on the concept of scoring games, and talk about Game Podunk's own scoring system. Then the episode ends with a cliffhanger, so stay tuned for part 2...

So it seems Marshall is still missing. If you find him, be sure to call us at [censored due to potential prank calls].

Anyway, in this episode we discuss region-specific games and the whole region-locking thing, the recently-announced Xbox One and what we think about what was announced thus far, answer a question asked by a member of our humble community, and Khorne shares a bit about his country in New Zealand Khorner.

We may be down a couple of hosts this time around, sure, but at least we were able to drag two guests into the madness to make up for that. Joining us this episode are last week's Raven and newcomer Bizarre Monkey. So let's all make 'em feel at home!

applause

In any case, our two guests, as well as myself (Jordan), are actually game developers, so this episode is all about game development. Following our discussion about what games we're currently playing, we give advice to beginner/aspiring game devs, talk about our ideal recipes for good games, discuss the difference between a good game and a successful game, talk about the pros and cons of both big (AAA, etc.) game devs and indies, answer a couple of questions asked by members of our humble community, and Khorne shares a bit about his country in New Zealand Khorner.
