- The etymology: Greek origins, meaning “two-colored”. It refers to glass with a special optical coating which allows it to reflect all light except certain wavelengths. Lights that change colors use this type of glass almost exclusively for its resistance to heat-related fading, and for the very pure color of the transmitted light.

Short aside folks: in this episode I say, in reference to the ETC PARNel that it “is a Fresnel optic in a PAR housing.” This is a mistake, what I meant to say is that the optics of a PARNel are roughly equivalent to the result that a Fresnel lens gives you. Clearly the PARNel is not a Fresnel optic. That is all.
