RESOURCES:

"I started this business with one goal in mind: To make it as easy as possible for people to manage weight, reduce inflammation and increase their vitality. A true pay it forward mission.

After becoming very ill in 1998, I was awakened to the idea of restoring my health through nutrition and functional medicine. I had no other choice at the time. My daughter was two years old and I was informed that I was going to die if something didn’t change quickly. I was in and out of the hospital on a weekly basis and not sure there was any hope. I felt that I had done this to myself. It honestly seemed easier to keep gaining weight and give up than to even try to lose the weight. I was sick, tired, 97 pounds overweight, and honestly, I felt hopeless.

I think hearing that I was actually going to die caused something to click. I wanted to be there to see my daughter grow up. I became passionate about researching food, nutrition, and wellness. With the help of functional medicine, I changed my diet and started to see positive results. It took several years, but I finally was feeling and looking well again. Naturally, everyone wanted to know how I did it.

This began my journey as a personal chef preparing meals in client’s homes and grew over time to a St. Louis based meal delivery and coaching and educational company serving thousands of clients across the nation.

In 2018, we closed the St. Louis meal delivery side of the business to focus on our nationwide coaching and educational supports.

We currently work hand in hand with functional medical professionals nationwide to provide their patients the additional support necessary to increase vitality and support their treatment plans.

Vitality Consultants, LLC is my opportunity to pay it forward. It is the opportunity to support people who are facing inflammatory conditions, weight or health issues in their journey toward feeling better and experiencing the vitality they are meant to enjoy. It’s the opportunity to help support our nations health naturally, by rolling up our sleeves and working together. In short, to make a difference every day big or small. If we can support your vitality, it is our pleasure to do so.”

Just before Citigroup became owned primarily by the US Government, United Bank of Switzerland recruited he and his team to join. During those years Tim helped develop the investment methodology’s, created the “Known Return” portfolio, and lead business development. At his retirement IFAM was billing in excess of $10 million in annual revenue and was managing well over a billion dollars. His experience is unique in that few firms of this size have accomplished the “triple crown” successfully. He has owned/managed in industries as diverse as scrap metal, to golf to fashion. This “Real Life” experience gives him the background to be able to consult to business owners from many walks of life about how to grow their companies, whether or not to seek monetization of their life's work and if so how, as well as working with Family Offices in managing the transition of wealth and knowledge to the next generations. Today Tim continues to share these “Real Life” experiences with other entrepreneurs across the country through private consulting and speaking engagements with his firm Lumina Consulting. Join Jonathan Krueger as he interviews Corey Hoffstein, Co-founder & CIO at Newfound Research, a financial technology and product innovation company that provides quantitative investment research.

IN THIS EPISODE: On today’s show we will be talking to Corey Hoffstein, Co-founder & CIO at Newfound Research, a financial technology and product innovation company that provides quantitative investment research and author of Red Blooded Risk and article During this episode you’ll hear: * For most investors, long-term “failure” means not meeting one’s financial objectives. * In the portfolio management context, failure comes in two flavors. “Slow” failure results from taking too little risk, while “fast” failure results from taking too much risk. In his book, Red Blooded Risk, Aaron Brown summed up this idea nicely: “Taking less risk than is optimal is not safer; it just locks in a worse outcome. Taking more risk than is optimal also results in a worse outcome, and often leads to complete disaster.” * A third type of failure, failing very fast, occurs when we allow behavioral biases to compound the impact of market volatility (i.e. panicked selling near the bottom of a bear market). * In the aftermath of the global financial crisis, risk management was often used synonymously with risk reduction. In actuality, a sound risk management plan is not just about reducing risk, but rather about calibrating risk appropriately as a means of managing risk of both slow and fast failure.

RESOURCES: Corey is co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Newfound Research, a quantitative asset management firm that specializes in risk-focused tactical asset allocation. Corey holds a Master of Science in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, cum laude, from Cornell University.
