North Canton enters the 21st Century! Even as the country struggles with new conflicts, North Canton faces an uncertain future . . . one without the Hoover Company. What happens when the tent-pole of the community is gone? And where can hope be found?

In this latest installment of “The History of North Canton,” the city and the country celebrate major milestones heading into the new millennium. In the aftermath of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal, the country looks toward the 1976 bicentennial celebration in the hopes of boosting spirits. North Canton itself celebrates its sesquicentennial and the Hoover Company turns 75, ahead of a major corporate development.
Plus, we learn about the history of the Diebold company, which was setting up on Mayfair Road in the 1970s.

***Also, the introduction is just poking fun at the long-standing rivalry between Hoover and Jackson. We love our neighbors to the west and Belden Village Mall.
With World War Two over, the population of North Canton explodes. The town becomes a city and benefits from the generosity of the Hoovers. As new churches spring up across the city, Walsh College is formed. And a fire marks a yet another change to Main Street.
The world goes to war and North Canton answers the call.

World War Two has begun. As the United States gears up for war, North Canton begins taking in children from England to provide them with safety and shelter. Meanwhile, the Hoover Company has to change course as their male employees are sent off to war and the company must shift from sweepers to munitions.
