The Secrets To Creating A Powerful Personal Brand
You Hold the Power In your Hands
Your personal brand is what people say about you when you're not in the room. It's how you present yourself to the world, and it's what people think of when they hear your name.
If you want to create a powerful personal brand, you need to be intentional about it. You can't just wing it – you need to put in the work and be strategic about your personal brand.
Here are some tips to help you create a personal brand that is powerful and impactful:
Something to always keep in mind: think about what you want people to say about you, and then make sure that everything you do aligns with that. And of course, stay authentic and true to who you are.

How often have you been hit with the “I have to” or “I got to” that is then followed up with a disappointing sense of obligation? I’ve been there and many of us have. When we use disempowering language it’s unlikely we will take action. So instead of saying “I have to,” change it to “I get to.” This change in perspective will give you the confidence to take action.
What words have you deleted from your vocabulary to avoid feeling disempowered?

Identity is such a powerful force in our lives. It determines our mood, our perspective and the actions we take or don’t take. One can argue that it is the more influential aspect of ourselves.
Today’s reading comes from “The Power of One More” by Ed Mylett. " Ch 1 Pg 8 “Are you willing to sacrifice who you are for who you could be? [...]give yourself the gift of taking control by dictating internal messages instead of being governed by external forces that have been undermining your happiness, possibly since the day you were born."
What parts of your current identity are still true? What aspects of your identity no longer serve you but you continue to hold onto out of fear of the unknown?

Lately I've been checking my language on a daily basis I catch it. Sometimes I'll say "try" or "can't" or some other word that isn't going to help me achieve my goals or help me become a more evolved person. And in my episode with Betsy Heller we talked about language and how it can shift your whole perspective in a positive way. She has some insight into using gratitude to change your life and overcoming fear with faith and humor so definitely check it out. My questions today is "What language are you using? And it empowering you or weakening you and holding you back from who you're meant to be?"
Language can shift your whole perspective in a positive way! @achieversrealty had some powerful insight on using gratitude to change your life and overcoming fear with faith and humor!

I love this episode that we had with Tim Van Damm, Attitude Proceeds Performance. I love this quote because I think it's powerful and it helped me out around the power of your thinking and your beliefs. He said, "If you think you're going to be successful then you're going to be succesful. And it's a whole mindset. If you're looking at all the negative things and how everything is horrible or stacked against you, then that becomes it's own self-fulfilling prophecy." You've got a lot of power in your hands today, you decide your own attitude. I'm also reading another book, it talks about your personality is different than your attitude and how you can always change your attitude. So regardless of who you are as a person, today you can change your attitude to become something that is more constructive and conducive for your goals and who you want to become.

We all look at life through the filter of our own experiences. What might be true for me may not be true for someone else simply because we have differing beliefs and life experiences. It’s complicated. But what we do have in common is that we all have the ability to control beliefs and therefore our reality.
Today’s reading comes from “Game Changers” by Dave Asprey. "It's exciting to know that your brain, your beliefs, and your reality are incredibly changeable. You decide who you are, and you can also choose your own truth. That is a powerful game changer.” Ch 2 Pg 30
What beliefs do you hold that are not helpful for your growth? What destructive beliefs are holding you back from becoming the person you know you’re meant to become?

As I'm going to the day, working at home, passing by the girls as they’re talking with their momma, I hear these conversations going on where Kari’s teaching Makena how to read. It wasn't until recently, last week or so, where something just clicked for Makena and now she's reading! She's reading words on her own and I'm just so amazed they're proud of her. What that taught me…what that reminded me was the compound interest principle…the compound effect that we can have in our lives. Makena put in the time, she worked on her skills and she kept trying. It was repetitive and she unknowingly was letting time play on her side. She invested in learning how to read and at some point that compound interest caught up and now she’s reading! This is the same case for us as adults. Every day, whether we know it or not, we're investing in our future with the small habits we operate with everyday…they're very powerful!

Gratitude is everything. I love this episode with Betsy Heller that you'll see shortly. It is powerful. I remember this story of a mentor of mine. I was coming to him because I was not in a good place, I was expecting something other than what he told me. And I was not happy with what he said. He said "What are you grateful for?". And I didn't want to hear that. I wanted something that fed my ego a little bit more. But when you find gratitude, when you find things to be grateful for and you continually operate from a space of gratitude, a place of gratitude, your brain's going to automatically start looking for more things to be grateful for. And imagine a life filled with gratitude. That's a pretty damn good life.
#Gratitude is everything!

Pushing through the fear. Feel the fear and do it anyway. I know I go back to it a lot but sports have so many teachable moments. Case in point, Makena recently had a sparing situation where she got hit in the nose really hard by somebody’s head. This created the fear that “I'm going to get hit again.” She didn't want to do it anymore. This went on for 2-3 weeks. We kept telling her that it may happen again but it's not likely, especially during class. But we also told her that in a real life fight she could get hurt, so it’s good she’s experiencing it now so she knows how it feels and she'll be ready for it. We kept asking her…if she was going to allow this fear to prevent her from going to class? And if the fear was going to prevent her from getting more stripes, and in the end, advancing in belts? She wanted to go to class but she kept having this fear. Her breakthrough moment happened recently at her last class when she decided to go, regardless of how scared she was. She ended up getting a stripe (in front of all your class) which really helped cement the lesson that what you want is at the otherside of fear and your comfort zone. I’m always proud of her, but I was happy for her when she decided to go to class, even though she was afraid. Push through the fear. Isn’t that what we still have to do as adults?

You are as powerful as your belief system allows you to be. I just got off an amazing coaching session with a great group of agents and we were talking about how our belief system determines the level of our success. If you are waiting for permission from somebody…nobody's going to give you the permission but you. There's just so much power and relief when we realize that the person we're waiting for to give us permission is ourselves. So remember, you are as powerful as your belief system allows you to be.

Purpose Over Perfection. You don't have to be perfect. I think we have been sold this lie that we have to pursue perfectionism in order to be loved by God, by other people, by our loved ones, by our parents, by our family, by society…that we had to live this perfect life in order for us to be accepted. Remember that every person you see when you look around and they look like they have it all together, I promise you they don't. They're figuring it out just like you are. Today I heard someone say “Purpose over Perfection” and man is that my theme for today. If you are feeling stressed out, overwhelmed or you’re having anxiety about what you're doing today, focus on the purpose…focus on your intention for today. Then you won’t be so hard on yourself. You wont expect yourself to be perfect because you’ll be too busy working on your purpose. And what a relief that will be knowing that you are perfect being imperfect.

If you're feeling a little unmotivated, or if you’re even feeling powerless, or you don't feel like you’re having any impact, remember that what you do today matters. It's going to impact the generations that come after you…your kids or grandkids and so on. So I encourage you to be the Roger Banister of your life and your family. Roger Banister is the guy who broke the four-minute mile. Essentially before him nobody had broken that barrier and people really quite frankly didn't believe it was possible. He did it, and guess what, a couple weeks, months after that, thousands of people started running the mile in under four minutes. He created a shift and everybody's paradigm of what could be possible. And what could be possible for future generations depends on what you believe is possible for you and for them. A Paradigm Shift: The New Way To Leave A Legacy.

🥋 I remember Makena‘s first jujitsu tournament. It was my first tournament too. And as a father I wanted to give her the beet advice I could. I listened to how the point system worked and I told her she only needed to focus on two things: 1) get up as quickly as you can when you get knocked down 2) try to take down your opponent. 🥷🏽
The faster we get up when we get knocked down, the better chance we have at winning. Let’s face it we all get knocked down from time to time so the question isn’t if we will get knocked down it’s when will get knocked down and how will respond. #MindsetCheck

On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how we can pivot when we’re presented with a challenge or an obstacle. In Bedros Keuilian’s book “Man Up,” how we can pivot and shift pretty quickly. 1) Change your state. If you change your physiology you change your psychology. Some examples include working out, exercising, putting on some nice music and dancing, whatever gets your body moving. Even smiling and walking confidently will change your state. 2) Get a small win. Find something that you’re good at and do it to help build your confidence immediately. 3) Be grateful. Expressing gratitude for your life right now may feel like a reach but you’ll be surprised how many things are actually going great for you. Think about five things you can be grateful for and write them down or say them outloud. How do you change your state when you’re in a funk?

Have you ever “talked it out” or written in a journal? You were communicating your thoughts to another person or to yourself in the case of journaling. Video is the preferred way to communicate in this time and age. It’s way of processing life.

On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about why we need to stop wasting our energy on self-sabotaging activities like worry, jealousy and anger, and instead invest that energy into pursuing our life’s purpose. In his book “Game Changers,” David Asprey talks about how our Mitochondria is “constantly hijacking” our nervous system to keep you “unconsciously focused on three things: fear (fight or flight), food and the third f-word which ensures the continuation of our species.” So instead of helping you focus on the things that really matter, like pursuing your true purpose, it will help you self-sabotage or whatever it is required for you to feel safe. The good news is that the same mitochondria is responsible for powering your higher thoughts and everything you do as you become more successful.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the importance of having a healthy self image. I heard John Asaraf on Ed Mylett‘s podcast say something to the effect that if your goals and vision for your life is bigger than your self-image then you won’t achieve them. Your identity & self-image must be bigger, or at least at the same level as your goals in order to accomplish them. If you don’t feel that you deserve it...if your self-worth isn’t at a healthy level there’s no amount of work that will get you to where you want to be. Your self image must match your goals so you will take the action that is necessary to achieve your goals.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about preserving even amidst difficulty. There will come a time in your life where you will feel discouraged. A lot of us are feeling this way right now. There’s a lot of uncertainty, on a global and local level. Will we continue to be thrown curve balls? Can we expect the same freedoms and opportunities? Instead of focusing on what may happen, we need to focus on what we can do today. How will you show up for yourself, your family and your community? Will you take the first step in the direction of creating the life you want for yourself and your family? That’s what we need to focus on because that’s what we CAN control. We must let go of the rest. Continue to push and fight for your beliefs but remember that the one sure thing you can control is yourself.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about having consistency in order to get results. If you think of a drop of water, it’s not so powerful…it’s not quite a force to be reckoned with. But a drop of water repeated over time on the same spot, can carve through the hardest of surfaces. Similarly, our actions, if only taken once, will not have the opportunity to create the compounding effect that we can get when we do a single action repeatedly. Get your reps in. Stay consistent. You will get closer to getting the results you desire. #mindsetcheck #california #sandiego #carlsbad #strategicmediapartner #realestate #videocoach #lifestyle #vlog #podcast #videography #videomarketing #therealpodcast #video #marketing #coaching #travel #7YearMindset http://www.DavidAMoya.com
Having an accountability partner. This is so powerful. I started doing this about a year ago and it’s transformed my life. This is a simple way to do it. Find someone is as committed to their success, as you are to yours. You are going to send them a voice message with the following: top 3 gratitudes, top 3 wins, theme of the day, top 3 goals, and then my claims, affirmations, and prayers for them. I’m telling you, if you do this every day, every week day, it’s going to drastically and dramatically change your life.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about having a clear vision and a clear path. I recently heard Danica Patrick on a podcast mention a story about how she used to train with her dad. Her dad used to tell her to“look where you want to go.” He would tell her not to get distracted, and look to the side or where she didn’t want to go. Point being because wherever you look and keep your focus on is where you’ll end up.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about breaking through old patterns. There’s this shopping center down the street that always has ducks walking around and sitting in the parking lot. I researched it and it turns out the shopping center was built on what was once marshland. The ducks come back to the same location because well…they’ve done it for so many generations that it stuck. I think we can find ourselves in a similar situation in which we’re stuck in old patterns. We don’t change because it’s uncomfortable so we resort to continuing to do what we’ve always done even if it doesn’t make sense anymore. I believe we all know intuitively what we need, we just have to listen and follow…even if it means being uncomfortable.
Make a Shopping List Before Going to the Grocery Store
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about having focus and a clear plan of action every day. Have ever gone to a grocery store without a list, and end up buying way more stuff than you need. Items you didn’t even think you needed somehow end up in your cart. This is a lot like life. How we wake up every morning. If we don’t set intentions, if we don’t have focus or a clear plan of action, we can tend to be distracted by the things we don’t need in our lives. You can ask my wife, I’m pretty horrible at going into a grocery store and getting only what we need. Something about a grocery store makes me feel nostalgic. Walking through there and picking out stuff I don’t need, so I need a list. Every morning I need a list. I do a top 3 and a theme or mantra. I also set my intentions for the day. With this I have focus. This has proven to work really well for me. Find something that works well for
A Real Time Stress Mitigation Tool
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about stress. I recently heard Dr. Andrew Huberman talks about stress and how we can lower cortisol levels. He talked about a real time stress mitigation tool. It’s a breathing technique. Our lungs aren’t just two sacs, they’re actually composed of about 500 million alveoli (which are small sacs). Whether it’s big stress or little stress, these small sacs will collapse when you’re stressed. One way you can get them to open up again is through this breathing technique. He says to take, “two inhales through the nose and a long exhale (a real physiological sigh).” Give it a shot and let me know how it
The Story You Tell Yourself About Yourself
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the most important story being the one you tell yourself about yourself. I heard someone once say that the Hero and Villain in every story had the same background and story…the only difference is the villain says “This was done to me so I will do the same to you” while the hero says, “This was done to me but I will save you and make sure it doesn’t happen to you.” Everyday we have the opportunity to choose who we will play…who our story will represent, the hero or the villain.

Using the Goldilocks Rule to Stay Motivated
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how to stay motivated and keep growing. In “Atomic Habits,” James Clear talks about the Goldilocks Rule which states that “working on challenges of just manageable difficulty -something on the perimeter of your ability - seems crucial for maintaining motivation. In other words, strategically and incrementally moving our goal just beyond our current comfort zone we’ll ensure continued and consistent growth. So wherever you are in your life right now, stretch yourself enough today to get uncomfortable. Growth will follow.
Fear feels very real. Regardless of how irrational that fear might be, there's no denying the chemical reaction that exists in your brain when you’re experiencing fear. Your entire body is likely also experiencing this fear to a certain degree.
When I was a kid, I would stay at my grandma’s house while my older siblings were at school. My grandma had a pool and there were moments during the day when I could go swimming. I loved it, except I never wanted to go into deep end...not without my siblings. I was afraid. It was dark, and for some reason, I thought there were sharks there. And even though and even at that age I knew there were no sharks and I had been in the deep end before, I didn’t want to go there. I felt alone. It looked dark and I was scared.
This just reminded me that even as adults we have this type of irrational fear sometimes. So whatever it is you’re going through today, I hope that you find comfort and peace.
The Journey to the Goal is the Goal
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about changing your perspective on goals. I recently heard Kevin Ellis say that our journey to our goal is the goal. He says that “goals don’t exist so you achieve something,” but instead they play an important role as your “north star,” a guiding force. So for me,this means that the goal itself should be the growth we experience during the journey to our goal.
It’s Ok to Be Misunderstood
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the power of letting go of the things we can’t control. When we stop being concerned about how others perceive us, we free ourselves from trying to carry something that was never our burden to bear. I recently heard Jay Shetty talk about how he’s ok with not being understood. That’s powerful. Because so much energy is wasted worrying about what other people think. Remember that the way people treat you or perceive you is a reflection of themselves, and the way you respond to how people treat you is a reflection of yourself.
You are the Ticket
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how you are your biggest competitive advantage. It’s so common for me to have to work through this with my real estate coaching clients because it’s such a competitive environment so most of us are hoping that there’s a magic pill so we can sit back and just watch from a safe distance, but the truth is that you are the ticket…you are the way out of whatever situation you’re in. Your specific set of skills and unique experiences are your biggest strengths. And your story is what sets you apart. Don’t shy away from it. Because the nagging desire for you to share your story will never go away.
“Bleed for a Decade and You Can Have Anything You Want”
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about commitment. As a society we’re so addicted to getting immediate results. But there’s so much power that comes with being committed to your goal, your purpose and the life you want. You leverage time when you don’t give up. I recently heard Bedros Keuilian say on Ed Mylett’s podcast to “Give it a decade! Give it the ten year run. Bleed for a decade and you can have anything you want.” Tony Robbins has a similar saying with “everyone overestimates what they can achieve in a year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years.” Stay the course. Don’t give up on yourself.
Would You Take This $10M Deal?
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how precious time is. I recently heard Brad Lea give this great example about the true value of time. He asked, "If I gave you $1M today, how would you feel? Would you take it? Now, what if I gave you $10M but you couldn't wake up tomorrow? Would you take the deal?" This really puts time in perspective...and gives TODAY such immense value. If you wouldn't take the $10M, you're saying that TODAY and your future, whatever it holds, whatever may come...is worth more than $10M. How will you spend your time today?
Asking Quality Questions Leads to a Quality Life
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how we can create great results in our lives by asking ourselves empowering questions. We take in so much information every day. And the small part that actually makes it to our consciousness is largely determined by our reticular activating system. The RAS works tirelessly to find evidence to support our beliefs and helps us focus on what’s most important to us. One way to help guide this system is by the questions we ask ourselves. Questions like, “what steps can I take today to help create a better future for my kids?” or “how can I show up for myself, my business and my family today?”Remember that the quality of your questions lead to the quality of your life. If you haven’t picked up Jim Kwik’s book “Limitless,” I highly recommend it. A lot of what I discussed in the video above was pulled from several points discussed in his book.
Being a Perpetual Learner and Student of Life. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about being a perpetual learner and student of life. If we aren’t learning we aren’t growing and if we aren’t growing then we’re liking living unfulfilled lives. In his book “Limitless,” Jim Kwik talks about the FASTER method when attempting to learn anything quickly. The “F” stands for forget. Forget what you already know, forget what’s not urgent or important and forget about your perceived limitations. Doing this will help you learn, adapt and keep moving forward.
Increasing Your Self-Worth
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about Increasing your self-worthiness. That’s your job today. If you don’t, no one else will. By consistently showing up for yourself, which partly means doing what you said you were going to do, giving yourself the space to heal and process emotions, you develop more self-worth…a self-worth that's built on trusting the process, which is where we can discover a deep
The Important Journey of Self-Awakening
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the journey of self-awakening. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this year is that I never have to wait for everything to fall in place for me to feel happy, complete or even grateful. I could be happy now, spending time with my family and friends without feeling like something was missing. I could look forward to the future while still enjoying the now. This present moment is the perfect time for us to feel whole. In fact it’s our responsibility. If we feel unworthy to experience this moment, we will miss out on our entire lives because we can in fact only experience our lives in the present.
Be Present - Don’t Worry Your Life Away
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how to spend less time worrying. If you’ve identified yourself as someone who routinely worries, time-block a part (let’s say 10mins) of your day to worry. Allow yourself that space to worry without judgment. But then when that time is over, move on. If you’re disciplined, the time you spend worrying will eventually start to lessen. If you don’t give yourself the time then what you resist persists and you’ll keep that worry around longer than you should.
People Want Your Attention Not Your Time
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about time and the idea of energy and being present. I recently heard Jay Shetty say something to the effect that people want your energy, your attention and presence and not your time necessarily. If you think about it, millions and billions of dollars are spent by companies and corporations trying to get your attention & energy. As a father, as a business owner, it’s common for me to feel like I don’t have enough time in my day. This concept really helped me to reframe the way I was looking at how I was spending my time. Instead, now I can focus on where I’m giving my energy, my attention and my presence. Because 10mins of someone’s complete attention is worth more than 1hr with them haphazardly present.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the power we have to influence our lives. For far too long many of us have been controlled by our circumstances. We’ve allowed our outer environment to dictate our thoughts, feelings and emotions. But we have to flip that narrative around and respond to our circumstances in the most constructive way possible which is by controlling our inner world. By doing this, we impact our future and influence our destiny.
Quit the Comparison Game, Your Path is Your Own
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the dangers of playing the comparison game. It's easy to let societal pressures influence how we live. We have to learn how to love ourselves unconditionally, let go of judgment, and embrace the current state of our evolution. You have to quit playing the comparison game, because your path is your own.
Developing the Skill of Confidence On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about building confidence. There’s a lot of excitement and at the same time a lot of anxiety about the new year. Will I be able to take on what comes my way? The good news is yes, yes you can! I recently heard Mel Robins say that confidence is a skill not a personality trait. And that Confidence is built on the low days, not the high days. If you think about it, there hasn’t been a challenge that didn’t make you stronger. It’s about facing the challenge, and taking action even when you don’t feel like it. That’s how you build confidence over time.
Quit the Comparison Game, Your Path is Your Own The key to living the life you want is learning how to love yourself unconditionally by letting go of judgment and embracing your current state of your evolution. So I say, quit the comparison game, because your path is your own. READ MORE at https://davidamoya.com/quit-comparison-game-your-path/
You are Magnetic! On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how there’s nothing more magnetic than someone who’s living out their soul’s purpose. To me, this means living authentically from my passion…from my gifts…and staying in high-vibration by making gratitude my MO (modus operandi). I heard Oprah say something to the effect that our only job everyday is to make sure we’re living in the highest vibration possible. If you’re feeling overwhelmed today, focus on the one thing you can control…yourself.
Walking Into the New Year with Certainty and Curiosity
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how we can claim a new life for ourselves by just moving forward with confidence. I think there’s this over romanticized part of the New Year that kids pay little to no attention to. Adults treat the New Year like there’s supposed to be some magical transformation but kids just go into the New Year with a sense of certainty and acceptance about the unknown without putting pressure on themselves to be something they aren’t just yet. Just look at how they walk. Chest out, head up! They’re open to the adventure.
How Challenges Create More Opportunities
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how challenge brings forth more of who you really are. Challenge creates the opportunity for you to rise to the occasion…to shed the old you and put on the new you. Taking on challenges is how you are literally built. This is the space where you and God work side by side co-creating and watching the beautiful unfoldment of who you truly are…an ever evolving being!
Be So Full of Yourself You Can Pour Into Others. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the importance of prioritizing yourself in your life. There’s no virtue in self neglect. When you're on an airplane, the safety protocol is if the oxygen masks come down you put them on yourself first. Why? Bcz you can’t help anyone else if you're dead. Remember to fill your cup first…then you can really pour yourself into others.
Be the Powerful Observer. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the power of playing the observer. When you’re triggered by an event to react impulsively with emotions and patterns that aren’t constructive, this is the perfect time to step back, detach from the situation and then respond accordingly. This is great to incorporate in relationships…with your spouse, children, with your team at work. The power really is in understanding that you have emotions, you aren’t your emotions. Who you are is bigger than your emotions.
Happiness & Success Will Come Running to You. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about happiness and what it really means. According to Tony Robbins, progress equals happiness. Think about all the different aspects that make up your life; your relationships, your finances, etc. Intuitively you’ll know whether you’re happy in each of these areas or not. If you’re unhappy, it’s likely because you aren’t making any progress. Find some ways to create even a little bit of growth in each area of your life and you’ll likely feel more fulfilled and inspired
Time is On Your Side. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about changing our mindset around time so that it can work in your favor. When we consistently incorporate small, sustainable and positive habits into our day, we create a compound effect that will lead to the results we’re looking for. Now let me be clear, this doesn’t mean not to take massive action today. These small changes usually lead to massive action. Today let's choose to focus on the things we can control, and that help build us up.
How to Use Your Identity in Your Favor
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about identity. I identify myself as someone who smiles. I’m a smiler! So If I’m walking down the street and I smile at a stranger and they don’t smile back, I don’t let it affect me. At the end of the day, I’ll still smile at the next person I see because that’s just who I am. Identity is powerful. Similarly if you encounter a challenge, a set back, or a rejection but you identify yourself as someone who can overcome adversity and persevere, then nothing is going to ever stop you.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about Mastering the art of showing up...specifically mastering the art of showing up for yourself. It’s about respecting yourself enough, believing in yourself enough, and loving yourself enough that you do what you say you’re going to do. You’re building trust with yourself. Imagine a parent who shows up to their kids basketball game. They cheer, clap and allow their presence to be the support their child needs. Be that parent for yourself today and show up.
Note: By consistently showing up for yourself, you develop more of your self-worth…a self-worth that’s foundation is built not on results but on the process, which is where we can discover a deeper meaning for our lives. Do this and results will follow.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how your mind is like a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds you plant. But we can't simultaneously plant opposing seeds. We can't plant seeds of fear and seeds of love at the same time. They are not complementary to one another. One will eventually kill off the other. So every day, with our thoughts, we are planting seeds that we'll harvest in the future. Tend to your garden daily, water it with gratitude and watch it flourish & grow!
Building Meaningful Momentum Through Personal Belief. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about believing in yourself. One easy way to do this is by removing the word "I can't" from your vocabulary. When we say we can't do something, we're planting seeds of fear, which inevitably leads to thoughts and emotions that limit us. If you’re still having problems believing in yourself, take on a personal mission that gets you outside of yourself and working on something bigger than yourself. This helps build meaningful momentum for your life.
Honor Yourself with Positive Internal Dialogue. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about honoring yourself with how you talk to yourself. Talk to yourself as you would talk to someone you really care about. If you talked to your friends the way you talk to yourself, how many friends would you have? Honor yourself and the process of change.
Choosing Who You Surround Yourself With. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the power of building a team. Surround yourself with people who encourage you to better yourself, to evolve and to grow. Find at least one person you trust and can share your successes and challenges with. You’ll be amazed at how liberating and edifying this can be for everyone involved.
The Power of Your Thoughts. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the power of our thoughts. If we haven’t been taught the proper way to think, it’s likely that sloppy thinking is what is guiding our lives. We have to learn to become conscious of the types of thoughts we’re having. I was surprised at how many negative thoughts I was unknowingly having during the day. Track your thoughts if you have to. You’ll discover a certain kind of power when you become conscious of your internal dialogue.
The Real Work is Within. On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about letting go of what no longer serves you. Subtracting things from your life is just as important as adding new things like skills and attributes into your life. But this can be hard bcz growth is uncomfortable and when you’re creating a new you, the familiar can be very attractive…but we know you’re not gonna go back to the way things were…that's the old you and the new you wouldn’t do that. When in doubt turn within.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about fear and being afraid of making mistakes. If that sounds like you, you're not alone. But the point to remember here is we’ve all made mistakes. It's how we learn and grow from them that matters most. After all, success is about failing forward.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about success and what it means for the group. Success isn’t about living flawlessly. That’s impossible. It’s about not giving up...even when you “fail.” In fact, nowadays if I’m not failing at something every week I feel like I’m not trying hard enough.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how we sometimes can get in our heads about expecting perfection before taking action. I recently heard Gary V. say something to the effect that there are no perfect decisions so we shouldn’t waste our time trying to figure out the perfect decision before taking action.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about drastically changing your physiology in order to change your mindset. For some this can look like a morning workout, a walk in nature, meditating or even doing some breath work. Just find something that shakes you up and gets you out of your head.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about having a mindset that allows you to persevere through anything. If you look at “failing” as part of success, then you won't be so hard on yourself when you make a mistake. It’s part of the process. Just remember, it’s about failing forward.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how the best time to wash your dishes is right away before the food starts to stick to the dish. Similarly, the best time to get rid of an automatic negative thought is immediately… before it sticks and becomes a pattern. Why? Because a belief is nothing more than a thought on repeat. Choose your thoughts wisely.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about living a life that allows you to help others get what they want. It's fulfilling, rewarding, and breeds new meaning for your life. When we contribute to the lives of those around us, we feel a strong connection to them, and our community. It gives us a sense of being a part of something bigger than ourselves. Living a life that allows you to help others get what they want, will put you on track to finding personal fulfillment and new meaning for your life.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how sometimes we get so caught up in our own story that we forget this journey isn't to be experienced alone. If you’re in a funk, helping others can give you a much-needed boost. Remember, you can get everything you want in life if you help enough people get what they want.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about routines and that creating a routine isn’t the hard part; it’s consistently sticking to the routine that becomes difficult. One way to stay on track is to remember that it’s not about the routine or activity necessarily, but more about having the right mindset and sticking to it even when you don’t feel like it. Those are the big wins.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about discovering your life’s purpose by creating a daily mission for yourself. Make sure it is manageable and sustainable. For example, I can make an effort every day to be a great dad. To me, this might look like taking my girls to the beach or simply laying in the grass talking about life. Don’t overlook this simple yet powerful technique.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we asked the question...How would our lives look if we did what we needed to do only when we felt like doing it? It’s in those moments when we don’t feel like doing something, that really will test our commitment to our goal and the life we want to live. (Note: appropriate rest is necessary to have a well balanced life. And sometimes not doing something is more productive than doing something...I get that too)

When we contribute to the lives of those around us, we feel a strong connection to them, and our community. It gives us a sense of being a part of something bigger than ourselves. Living a life that allows you to help others get what they want, will put you on track to finding personal fulfillment and new meaning for your life.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about increasing your self-confidence by daily thinking about all the times you’ve been successful at something. We’ve all been good at something at some point in our lives...think about that no matter the size of the accomplishments. When you do this, you’ll remember what it felt like to be successful. Stay in this space for as long as you can.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about stepping out of your comfort zone. It’s uncomfortable but this is the only sure way to cultivate growth. When you consistently expand your ability to overcome challenges, you’ll naturally start to believe in yourself more and more.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the importance of working towards your goals in order to increase self-belief. Take small, sustainable steps towards your goals every day. Over time this will create a compound effect around your efforts that will leave you in awe of your growth.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and help build you up. If your family isn’t on your team, find a group of like-minded people to create a new support system. If you think your friends don’t influence you, you’re wrong...you’re a product of the top five people you hang out with the most. Don’t overlook this part.
On today’s #MindsetCheck we talked about how important it is for you to believe in yourself. Success is an inside job first. If you’re weak in this area, remember that God brought you here for a purpose and there are no accidents here. The same energy that transforms an acorn into an oak tree is flowing through you. Learn to work with this energy.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious it could be because you’re trying to control something which you have little to no control over. You can’t control what others think or do. But you most definitely can control what goes on inside you…the quality of thoughts, what type of energy you allow to occupy your inner space. So focus on the things you can control. You’ll be more at peace. I promise. #MindsetCheck
In order to pour yourself into others our cup must be full. Regardless of what happens during the day whether you succeed or fail, win or lose and even those words are relative, but if you prioritize the work required to build yourself up every day, you always win. This is why I always focus on working on myself every day. #MindsetCheck
Your beliefs have a high ROI. If you take the time to think about and evaluate your beliefs and make sure they're edifying and constructive in helping you create the life that you want and the experiences that you want...your beliefs will pay you in dividends. #MindsetCheck
The best identity of course, is your own identity that’s true to you and true for you, however, having an identity that allows you to be adaptive and flexible and how you approach life is going to allow you to progress evolve and become even more who you really are. #MindsetCheck
Negative thinking is a natural part of our evolution. At some point in time, negative thinking was a way in which we attempted to protect ourselves from potential danger. If you think of a time when you were in danger and felt your "fight or flight" response kick in, how many thoughts ran through your mind? How many of those thoughts were negative? In a matter of seconds, you probably thought of a hundred different ways you could get yourself out of danger should it arise.
Negative thoughts are a part of life, but they can also be an indicator of a need...a need for something greater. If you find yourself constantly thinking negatively about your business, your relationships, or anything else in your personal and professional life, it might be time to take a step back and evaluate what's really going on. Instead of feeling the need to run away from these thoughts or just accept them as truth, use them as cues and a sign, that it may be time for you to upgrade your mindset.
Below are some ways that can help you start having more positive thoughts than negative ones:
I challenge you for the next 21-30 days to incorporate this concept into your daily routine and life. Be aware of the negative thoughts flowing through your mind and see how you can shift those thoughts to something uplifting. Focus on how you speak to yourself.
It's common for people to think that having negative thoughts is a bad thing. But if you can use them as a cue to upgrade your mindset, it is possible to live an extraordinary life and achieve more than you ever thought was possible!
Are you aware of your self talk? Is it a positive voice you hear talking to you? A question came up on our call today, if you talked to your friends the way you talk to yourself how many friends would you have? Would you even have any friends? Be kind to yourself! #Mindsetcheck
How do you view challenges? I use to view them as indicators that I wasn’t doing something right or simply falling short. Today, I’m choosing to view challenges in a different way…they are simply a part of my evolution and I get to rise to the occasion. #MindsetCheck
What you focus on expands! I love Mel Robin's quote in which she said, “The reticular activating system helps us see more of what we believe by focusing on finding evidence that supports our belief." Wow, what a powerful statement! #MindsetCheck
On today’s #MindsetCheck and we talked about #Gratitude and how gratitude is the antithesis to negative, angery, resentment, doubt, victimhood. If you’re trying to get into a place of gratitude every day, I encourage you to try this for 30 days. Every day for a month, pick five people and send them a message thanking them for the difference they’ve made in your life. I promise you this will change your life. #lifechanging #reels #reelsinstagram
When you first wake up, what goes through your mind? What kind of thoughts do you have? Are you aware just how powerful these first few moments of the day are? The quality of your thoughts create the quality of the day you’ll have and the quality of your day determines the quality of your life! #MindsetCheck

Identity is one of the most powerful forces in the world. It shapes your habits, experiences and the people you surround yourself with.
If you look back at your past and compare it to your present reality, it’s likely you’re not the same person you were 5-10 years ago. Depending on the speed of your growth, you might be very different than you were even a month ago.
For me, this means your personality is mailable and not fixed. If we can change our personality and our identity, then who am I truly? What am I? What part of me is my true self? This is a different topic but interesting still to note. What I do want to talk about is how by harnessing our power to focus our energy we can create transformations in our lives.

Nick is a beast. And he’s created a morning routine that is inspiring! In this episode we asked Nick to share with everyone his morning routine and how he decided to start waking up at 3:45am to go to the gym every day. Oh, and of course we asked him how he has been about to stick with this early morning routine.
Below we’ve shared some highlights from our conversation with Nick you think you’ll enjoy.
“So I wake up at 3:45am the latest...every morning Monday through Friday. I realized pretty quickly that the only way to have a consistent workout was to do it really early in the morning because things come up during the day that you may not be able to pull yourself away from. In the beginning it was really difficult...but once you do it for so long it becomes a habit. Nowadays I don’t even use an alarm clock. My body knows when it’s time to go.”
“I remember a long time ago when this older guy took me under his wing. And he told me that it’s not about the workout, it's about the mindset. The hard wins are the most important.”
“There are days when I get up and go to the gym, and my workouts are 50% of what they should be but those are the best days, those are the tough days because those are the good wins.”
“Just like everyone else I'm in the university of life. I’ve embraced the journey to spiritually grow, to truly live in the moment and not give into thoughts that don’t serve my highest purpose. I try to be mindful of it so in the event that I have thoughts that don’t serve me well, I can make a quick decision and remind myself that it’s my ego talking and I need to pivot."
“When I first started, it was for looking good for myself. But since then it’s almost completely pivoted. I call it my church. It’s more about the mental part of it for me. It kicks in your hormones, your endorphins, your serotonin climbs up. So for me it’s that plugin in the morning to that good energy to that good feeling that does it for me.”
“Everything just depends on how you look at it in life. For me, there’s nothing better than family. I love coming home to my family and seeing my wife and my daughters. To me that’s everything. They’re my why!"
“We’re all connected...energy is real. No matter what we think about, we attract. If we put action into it we attract it even faster. If we have clarity, as a soul, as a human being that is evolved, it comes even faster. I’m a big believer in always having good thoughts and thinking about how you can help other people. I try to let go of outcomes and results, and just always do the right thing. If I have my intentions in the right place I’ll attract that right energy. And it seems like it happens magically.”
Just because it’s familiar, doesn’t mean it’s right for you.
Oftentimes the things that we think are “right” are really just the things that are familiar to us. They’re just disguised as feeling “right.” Whatever it is we’re used to, is what we’ll continue to seek to create for our lives.
If you grew up listening to country music every Sunday morning while waking up to mom cooking breakfast, then it’s likely your Sunday’s will feel off until you recreate that for yourself as an adult. And the crazy part is you probably won't even know why your Sunday’s feel off. Until you recognize that some of your feelings exist solely because they’re familiar, you’ll continue life totally oblivious to its power over you. And by “it”, I mean your comfort zone.
When we can break free from the bondage that our comfort zone can put us in, we can begin to really live a life designed by our own beliefs versus a belief system passed down to us by our culture, family and society.
Now equally important is the fact that this same system can be used in our favor. Positive habits can be created and preserved by using this same technique. Let’s say for example you decided to start working out at 6am every morning. Let’s say you continued this routine for 6 months, then 12 months. How do you think you’d feel if you woke up and didn’t work out at 6am for a whole week? You’d probably say to yourself…”Something just doesn’t feel right.” And once you started your same routine again...all would be right in your world.

I remember when we first had Lindsay Dunlap on The REAL Podcast a few years ago, and she mentioned the question “Why Not Me?” back than as well. This has since stayed with me and I wanted to have her come back on the show to talk specifically about this and her mindset behind this simple yet profound question.
Q: Is there something that’s currently in your radar that’s been your theme this week?
A: How can I add value? Maybe it’s not a current client but a past client, friend or neighbor? Can I add value to another agent?
Q: Anything particular that prep’s you mentally for the day?
A: I am most productive when I have lists. As soon as 9am hits, what looked like a planned and prioritized day has gone in a completely different direction. Learning to adjust and shift swiftly is key.
Q: Do you have a morning routine?
A: It’s a work in progress. Actually working on implementing more structure to my morning routine. Start with prayer of gratitude, physical activity/exercise outdoors (as simple as walking- opportunity to meditate on the upcoming day or return calls), coffee and lists, proofing marketing.
Q: Like what type of mindset has helped you succeed in real estate and being a mom? Is there overlap at all?
A: My mindset has shifted quite a bit in the past 2 years, however one that has stuck with me since the beginning is: why not you? What separates you from the top agents? In my eyes, the person who really wants it, is the one who is willing to do the work to get it. Another is don’t chase the money, chase the relationships. Focusing on money will lead you down a rabbit hole. Focusing on adding value to others when at times there is not an immediate or tangible payoff will serve you in the long run. Questions I’ve been asking myself to create a better mindset...what is your why? Who do you want to be? Not all agents want to be #1 and that’s ok. Owning who you are and where your priorities lie are critical. At this time in my life I have experienced a tremendous amount of loss. It has made me realize that my success is not defined by my annual production, it is defined by my relationships with my family and friends, it is defined by moments that are shared, it is defined by the impact I can make serving others.
The same skills I use in real estate I also use in parenting. Set an example, be patient, show kindness even when it’s not deserved, live like someone is always watching, show compassion, give respect and it will be given to you. Make time, set expectations, be honest. Character counts! Understand that you’re not going to win every battle but choose those battles wisely.
Every successful or accomplished person at some point asked themselves…”why not me?”
Roger Bannister was the first man to run a mile in under four minutes. But he held the mile record for only 46 days. Why? Because a new belief system around what was possible regarding running a sub-four minute mile was formed. This event redefined what is possible and created a paradigm shift for everyone.
We have the same opportunity to make a similar impact in our own lives and those around us. For our family, community and clients.
I remember when I was a kid...around 5th grade, I saw my sister get all sorts of academic awards. I saw how advantageous it was for her and how early academic success was going to pay off for her especially in high school. That’s all I needed. I remember asking myself…“why not me...too?” The next year (my 7th grade year), I got my first every 4.0. Before then, I was mainly a “B” and a “C” student. I, unknowingly at the time, created a paradigm shift for myself. From then on, I identified as an “A” student. But it all started because I asked myself…”why not me?”
What kind of paradigm shift are you creating for yourself and the future generations? And how is that playing in creating your identity? Living in the possibilities is the space I want to live in.

We can all agree that time is the most valuable resource. So if we spend our time...our precious time...worried, doubting ourselves, and in low vibration...then we're being horrible stewards of the one thing that we have a limited amount of. How you invest your time speaks more about you than anything else. Every moment with the ones you love thinking about the things that make you come alive and radiate love and happiness is what being a good steward of our time means to me.
If you’re really grateful for your time like you say you are, then you’d be giving only positive and uplifting meaning to your experiences. How you invest your time speaks more about you than anything else.
We can all agree that time is the most valuable resource. So if we spend our time...our precious time...worried, doubting ourselves, and in low vibration...then we're being horrible stewards of the one thing that we have a limited amount of. Give up the old habits and dive into a new way of being where positive thinking and positive self-talk is all part of your norm. And then success will follow you...and you want to be worried about failure. You’ll be able to focus on different levels of success versus failure. In this mindset you can give birth to a new you and a new life.

One of the best ways to immediately create momentum for your day is by tackling one of the biggest challenges we all face every day…getting up and getting up early!
By consistently taking action on this often difficult decision, you start to build self confidence and self respect.
So how do we do this and how can we stay on track? We’re all different so you have to find something that works for you but a few tricks I learned from reading Atomic Habits by James Clear might be helpful.

Think about a time when you’ve been scared to do something but you did it anyway. Do you look at that moment any differently now? Now that you’re just observing that time, unattached to the outcome, how do you feel about it?
If I look back at my life and think about the times like that in my life, there’s a sense of relief. I can think of heavy moments and somewhat light moments where I felt overcome by fear. I couldn’t move. Somehow I got enough courage to continue and every time I’ve done that I’ve never regretted it.
Sure, in retrospect everything can look positive & significant for your growth & evolution. But maybe there’s some truth to that. So what I like to do when I’m going through something scary and I know I need to and want to push through, I remember the times in my life when I persevered. And realize that even when I was scared and continued anyway, it all turned out to be pretty amazing. This helps me to not be so scared. That I can trust, and move forward and God/Life will come in to support me.
Now, what might seem scary for us right now, though it can appear to be a small matter, is not comparing ourselves to others. I think there's a sense of fear that if we let go of trying to gain significance in the world by what we post on social media or by our achievements, that we will somehow lose our edge...lose our current place in society...even if we’re unhappy with it.
A healthy form of competition is good, however don’t get trapped in the game of comparing yourself with others because it will rob you of your joys.

Have you ever woken up from a dream and you couldn’t shake off the emotions & feelings you experienced in that dream? For example, we’ve all woken up mad at someone because in our dream that someone did something we weren't happy with. We know they didn’t actually do anything...it’s all in our dream, but it felt so real to us!
Dreaming is watching your vivid imagination come to life. And since our nervous system can’t tell the difference between an actual experience and one we only imagined, our dreams can feel very real!
The type of results we can get when we practice using our imagination in a positive way has always intrigued me. There have been several studies conducted that demonstrate the power of our imagination. R.A. Vandell, for example, conducted a controlled experiment with participants throwing darts at a target. The conclusion was that even when the participants just imagined successfully throwing darts at the target, it improved their aim.
Similarly, I think we each have the opportunity to practice & imagine our day going the way we want it to...every night before going to bed. Whether you know it or not, your morning routine starts the night before. What are you thinking just right before going to sleep? What kind of thoughts and images are running through your mind? This ultimately leads to how you feel right before going to bed which then greatly determines how you’ll wake up in the morning.

I think we all want to give our kids a better life than the one we had. Even if our lives were great. Giving my girls a life I didn’t have, used to mean just giving them something I didn’t have or providing them with a better quality of life. There’s nothing wrong with that, in fact that’s still my goal, but now only part of it.
I believe I can achieve all of my goals as a dad especially if I focus my efforts on giving them an upgraded operating system…aka an upgraded mindset, upgraded beliefs and habits. Bottomline: give my girls an environment, both internally and externally, where they can learn, grow and prosper.
Now let’s be clear, I appreciate what my parents taught me, but I can still improve upon it just as I expect my daughters to upgrade what I taught them once they have children of their own. Especially because I understand that what I taught them may be outdated by the time they have kids. They’ll have things to add or subtract of their own.
Again, what I want to repeat is that my focus as a leader is not to just be resourceful in the way I provide for my children but also to be resourceful in the way I build up my children.
For me, this means:
Similarly, we all are leaders and we have an opportunity to be a resource for our families, clients, and greater community by empowering and enriching the lives of those around us.
Our guest, Danielle Short has done a remarkable job at owning her role as a leader and has found purpose in being an educator to her clients, team and community.
Here is some insight into her morning routine and mental practice:
Resourceful leaders are the ones that have a big impact on our society. They're able to think outside of what's typically expected and create new opportunities for themselves & those around them. It's the leaders who have a high degree of resourcefulness and creativity that create the most impact. These are individuals with an ability to see something in its totality, both what is going on outside themselves as well as inside them.
Have you ever looked at a before and after photo of a president? They tend to age substantially, especially if there were major events like a war going on in their presidency.
During the last days of World War II, a reporter commented on how President Harry Truman appeared to be doing a good job handling the pressure and stress of his presidency and the war.
President Harry Truman was asked what his secret was that allowed him to stay focused, energetic and to keep the negativity at bay. He said, “I have a foxhole in my mind.” He went on to say that just like a soldier has a foxhole for protection, rest and recuperation, he periodically retreated to his mental foxhole where he allowed nothing to bother him.
I think this is a great strategy in dealing with outside stressors. Similarly we all have to create a mental room or space in our minds where we can retreat and find our peace again.
Bridget Carlson has literally & physically created a “War Room” in her home where she feels most productive, effective and fulfilled. I”m sure she has a mental room similar to her war room where she finds the right motivators to get her to her goals. Bridget says this has been an effective strategy for her both mentally and physically to get the growth she’s looking for.
Some takeaways regarding her Mindset:
Tune in to hear how she sets up her “War Room” and what she has all over her walls to make sure she’s operating at the highest level.
We’ve all got certain things we would never do in our lives. For me, one of those things is rock climbing up a tall and steep mountain...and definitely not without a rope or safety gear!
Alex Honnold is a famous rock-climber who scaled Yosemte’s El Capitan and did it all without a rope or safety gear. In his defense, he did practice climbing it for over two years but still...that’s one crazy dude! You can check out his movie “Free-Solo” where he documents the whole thing.
I heard that neuroscientists performed scans of his amygdala and discovered that his amygdala doesn’t operate in the normal way. You see, the amygdala is behind the whole “fight or flight” response in the human body. Basically it controls how we process emotional ( and sometimes stressful) information as well as memory.
I’m still confident I would never go rock-climbing, especially such a high mountain like Alex, and especially not without ropes or safety gear. But isn’t it amazing what humans can achieve when they conquer their fear instead of letting it conquer them?
If we’re not involved in such extreme sports, it may feel like the common fears we experience during the day may not warrant so much of our attention but I’d argue that any kind of fear can easily turn into a wildfire of worry, doubt and more fear. So we still have to remain diligent about safeguarding our inner dialogue. We’ve got to figure out a strategy that works best for our unique situations so we can conquer our fears and not allow it to cripple our efforts.
The last year has been challenging for all of us and we’ve all been impacted by it in different ways. My friend Nicolai Glazer shared some of the ways he has overcome last year's frustrations and how he continues to tackle the challenges he faces every day.
Some of his strategy includes:
Simple? Yes, but very effective!
These are some great examples of how we can take everyday activities and interactions, and turn them into ways we cope, manage and overcome. Most of our lives can already feel very complex. Keeping our routine simple and the way we connect easy, we give ourselves a greater chance to actually implement our strategies especially when we need it the most.
Bottomline: Find your center and fill your cup first (mental health) so that you can be the best version of yourself.
One of the most fascinating aspects of human existence is our ability to grow and evolve. Throughout every part of your life, you can change who you are in substantial ways. One way that we do this is by redefining ourselves - a process where new facets come out as other parts recede into the background or become obsolete altogether. This constant process helps us adjust to our environment and social changes without fully giving up on what makes us unique individuals.
There’s a story I heard Jim Carrey tell about his dad and how he never took a risk regarding his career due to fear. Jim said that his dad was the funniest person he ever met. He was a musician, comedian and entertainer. However, his dad felt irresponsible if he pursued his passion because he had a family to take care of. Instead, he got a job as a CPA and at the age of 50 he was fired. Jim remembers how sad his dad was. He then realized something.
Jim said, “I learned that you can fail at what you don't love, so you might as well do something you love. There’s really no choice to be made. Take a chance at Being loved or hated for who you really are, or you’re gonna have to kill who you really are, and fall into your grave grasping onto a character who you never really were.”
As kids, I think we all had certain ideas about who we thought we were going to be. This idea is heavily influenced by who we think the people around us think we should be. We make assumptions about what we think our parents, our community and society wants from us, and then we go out and try to live up to these imaginary expectations. At some point we have a decision to make...to redefine ourselves and become the person we know deep down we’re meant to become.
Here are some bullet-points that I try to live by:
I remember as a kid I had my whole life planned out. I was going to be an orthopedic surgeon. Two years into pre-med I realized this dream was someone else’s dream, or at least expectations other’s had for me. Of course this was a huge assumption. Today, I’m obviously not a surgeon but I will tell you I’ve never regretted listening to my gut and not going to medical school. I’m still redefining myself every day...and I’m not finished.

We've all had times in our lives when we felt like giving up...quitting...throwing in the towel. At face value, giving up seems like the easiest and most comfortable route. The truth is it's harder in the long-run. Life has an interesting way of presenting you with the same choice over and over again until you make the decision to overcome and rise above your challenges. Am I right?
I heard Oprah say that our only quest is to make sure we stay in a high vibration. We’re all energy fields. Negativity cannot and will not attract positivity into your life. You’ve got to keep your energy field in a high vibration. So we must do things that keep us at a high vibration...meditation, exercise, whatever keeps you whole and connected. By staying in our highest vibration, we give ourselves the best possible chance to have the life of our dreams.
So the question is then, how do you stay in a high vibration? What if you're going through a difficult and challenging time? It's not always easy. (On a side note, this is really what #MindsetCheck is all about. Recognizing when you're not in high vibration and taking the steps needed to get you back to the place where magic happens.)
I had the honor of having Courtney Costello on our morning Clubhouse #MindsetCheck call and she shared her three P's that are her guiding principles in 2021.
Usually, I'm interested in only taking action that creates immediate and an impactful difference in my life. However, it's equally important to recognize the value of sitting still, finding peace and learning to surrender. There's a playful dance between the ying and the yang that exists in every moment.
What are your habits for staying in a high vibration? Comment below! Let's chat! What do you think this means? Do these sound like things that will make me successful or happy throughout my life?
This blog post is about habits and how small changes regarding your habits can lead to big wins for you. You may feel that habits are insignificant to create the life you want, but these little things called habits are what make a world of difference in your life. Habits have the power to transform who you are as an individual. They also have the power to impact your family, company or community for the better!
“Habits can help you achieve all of these things, but fundamentally they are not about having something. They are about becoming someone.”
For so many of us, we can feel like we’re on a never ending uphill climb. We’re being pulled in so many directions. Our families, professions and communities demand our time. This can often leave us feeling overwhelmed, overworked and underappreciated.
In this complex journey we call life, I like to remind myself that it’s not about the goals I achieve or the things I accomplish, but more so about the person I become along the way.
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity. This is one reason why meaningful change does not require radical change. Small habits can make a meaningful difference by providing evidence of a new identity. And if a change is meaningful, it actually is big. That’s the paradox of making small improvements.” - Atomic Habits
The power of a single drop...repeated over and over, creates permanent and foundational change, on even the hardest of surfaces. If you think about it, a single drop of water feels harmless and ineffectual. But in numbers...conducted repetitiously, contains with it the power to lasting change.
This is similar to habits and the actions we take...even the little ones we think go unnoticed (at least on a conscious level). Creating a habit is easy. It’s part of the operating system that was given to us at birth. The challenge comes when we want to change these habits especially if they’re habits we don’t want and no longer serve us but are still part of our identity. Creating a new habit is really about making new decisions about how we operate and then making that same decision over and over again to the point that it becomes part of our identity.
“True behavior change is identity change. You might start a habit because of motivation, but the only reason you’ll stick with one is that it becomes a part of your identity.”
As you go about your day, I encourage you to find time to observe your thoughts, emotions, and actions. Decide if the choices you’re making create the person you want to identify as and if that person is going to help you create the future you want.
As you may probably already know, I’m a huge Ed Mylett fan. A few weeks ago, I watched a podcast episode he had with Phil Mickelson. I’m not a golf enthusiast so I had no idea that Phil was in his 50’s and about to play in the 2021 PGA Tour that same week. I found out several days later that at the age of 50 he had one the 2021 PGA Championship. This baffled me as I recall thinking about his visualization techniques he incorporates into his life, both professionally (sports) and personally (family).
“...that ability to control your thoughts ultimately will lead to success, I believe, in whatever your line of work is because you have to be able to see what you want to have happen. Visualizing and mental preparation is every bit as effective as physical preparation…” - Phil Mickelson
Phil gave an example of a study that was conducted to test the efficacy of visualization around basketball...specifically shooting free-throws.
In this case study, they split up the participates into three groups as follows:
The end result was that the group that only visualized shooting free-throws actually ended up doing just as well as the group that physically practiced and visualized shooting free-throws. Morale of the story; positive & effective visualization is key to your success.
Phil followed up with, “It’s [visualization] a powerful tool...and you really have to perform it with physical practice as well.”
Application:
I’d like to end with another quote by Phil, “When you visualize, you visualize perfection...you visualize hitting the shot the way you want to.”
So today, I invite you to visualize what you want to happen, not what fear is trying to distract you with.
I’ll bet you will disagree with me at first glance but if you give it a second...I think that what I’m about to say will speak to you.
You don’t really want it to be easy...you just want to be stronger and more confident. You want to be able to operate and exist with a deep sense of certainty and self-belief.
You don’t really want a challenge-free life...you want your difficulties to stir up something inside you that is greater than all of your challenges.
I was listening to Oprah interview Dr. Michael Beckwith and he said something that woke me up. He said, “pain pushes until the vision pulls. The universe is progressive and it’s pushing you until you get pulled by a larger vision”
Wow, talk about a shift! All my life I’ve felt like I’ve been operating from pain. It wasn’t until the last 3-5 years that I’ve been experiencing this shift gradually take place in my life. And man, what a relief.
This is really about moving from fear to love, from a scarcity mindset to an abundance minsent, from thinking we’re all separate to understanding we’re all one.
Easier said than done, I get it.
Pain will continue to push us. Why? Because we all naturally try and move away from pain. So if the pain looks like...“I don’t have enough money,” or “I don't have enough confidence,” it will continue to push you. Hopefully, at some point however, a shift will happen for you where a bigger vision starts to take hold of you and starts to pull you in the direction of your dreams. At this point, the fear is no longer pushing you, it’s the idea of your dream and the love for your dream that is pulling.
In the interview with Oprah, Michael Beckwith goes on to say that, “potential is always bigger than the problem.” This is not only comforting, but also empowering.
Your problems are painful I'm sure, but continuing to play a victim will only keep you there. You’ve got to think about the possibilities.
When things are hard....remember that life is pulling you towards a vision that is larger than your pain. When you operate from your highest vision of yourself, you’re being pulled by a higher vibratory state...by joy, love and possibility!
Every moment we have a choice...to walk in the direction of our dreams, or to allow our fear and pain hold us back from ever taking a step.
