“What is the gospel?” Responses continuously return to an inward-looking faith instead of a faith that clings externally to the astonishing mercy of Christ Jesus, who took the sin of the world into Himself on the cross and breathed out His life for and onto His creation. In this act of sacrifice, Jesus is indeed the sacrificial Lamb who takes away the sin of the world. Through His resurrection, Jesus Christ has given His promise of eternal life in Him.
In Genesis we see not just an account of God's creation of the world, but God shows His love for us so much more deeply than that. It is not good for Adam to be alone, but does Adam even know it?
Craig, Troy, and Newly Minted Vicar Josh find their way back to Genesis and discover God's life-giving water that flows forth from Eden for you. Though there are many side-trips discussing the various approaches to this creation account, we nevertheless find God's Word is faithful, beneficial, and true.
Craig and Troy return from a short hiatus in order to return to the account of God's creation of the world and all that is in it. Out of all His creation, mankind stands unique in receiving a special gift of and from God. What is it? Listen in and find out!
Craig and Troy sit down with Corey Wilson, president of Emmaus Theological Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio. What does it take to open a new seminary these days? And why open a new one, when so many others are closing?
But is it that, Craig? Or is it that Troy desires to listen to God's word as the source of truth? Craig and Troy wade into the book of Genesis and the minefield that is the creation and evolution debate.
Whose supper is it? What is given in the supper? What is received in the supper? And why those things in the supper? Craig and Troy discuss THE supper . . . the Lord's Supper.
Why do Lutherans get so excited about the Lord's Supper? Why can't they stop talking about it? The secret lies in the objective reality of it. Craig and Troy talk their way around how God chooses to work from within the world He created, and how He gives spiritual blessings through physical means.
What role does baptism take in mission work? What goes before baptism, and what must come after? Craig and Troy discuss the baptismal life, the life of the Church, and how it all fits into mission.
So the question is, what mode of baptism is valid? And the other question is, who should be doing the baptism? Craig and Troy continue the discussion on how God uses water to do such great things.
Craig and Troy dive into the deep waters (no pun intended) of baptism. Should we baptize infants? Should we never baptize infants? How should we read the whole Bible story so that we can know?
Craig and Troy start a discussion on baptism, water, the Spirit, the Word, and how God works through this all to bring Jesus to you, and to bring you to Him.
The For You Podcast enteres a new era, and Craig and Troy kick it off with a discussion on how God works in our lives through tangible means.
The Day of the Lord ever hastens closer . . . but why hasn't it come yet? When nearly 2000 years have passed from when Jesus said He'd return, what are we supposed to think when He hasn't yet? Craig and Troy finish up with Peter's 2nd epistle.
Craig and Troy return to 2nd Peter, taking a deeper look at the false prophets Peter warns us about. Who are these, and why are they blots and blemishes on the church and her fellowship?
. . . and He also knows how to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment. Craig and Troy step back into 2 Peter, studying the arising of false prophets and our appropriate and bilblical reaction to them. But what can we, as beleivers, expect from God's hand?
Craig and Troy join up with Katie Coblintz to discuss transgender and identity questions. Drawing from her own personal experience as a woman who had been led into living as a trans man for several years, Katie gives a humble and honest account of what it means both to feel uncomfortable in your own body as well as what it means to find our baptismal identity in Christ.
In Christ, Heaven touches earth so that we earthlings might dwell forever in Heaven with Him. But how can you be sure? Peter shows the firm foundation upon which faith stands.

TradiSHUUUUNNN! TRADITION! Spurred on by last week's thoughts on All Saints' Day, Craig and Troy think about the traditions of the liturgical calendar and the lectionary reading cycle.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Seriously, what even IS All Saints' Day? Isn't that just some weird Catholic thing? Didn't we give up praying to saints a long time ago? And who even are "the saints"? Craig and Troy discuss All Saints' Day, its place on the liturgical calendar, and its good and valuable place in our Christian lives.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
We're back, baby! Craig and Troy reunite and use the occasion of Craig's new pastoral ministry to discuss what it means to be a pastor. How do you know you're called? How do you enter the ministry? Is seminary necessary? Is ordination necessary? How can I be sure that God has called me into the ministry?

In the few weeks while Craig finishes up his move to Minnesota and while Troy digs himself out from under an avalanche of writing and research, For You Radio takes the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite episodes. Today, we look back to when apologist Adam Francisco joined us. What is "apologetics," anyway? How can the Christian utilize apologetics in their witness of Jesus Christ? Apologist Adam Francisco returns to show Craig and Troy how apologetics--while not the silver bullet of witnessing--can be properly used to help overcome an unbeliever's objections to the faith.

In the few weeks while Craig finishes up his move to Minnesota and while Troy digs himself out from under an avalanche of writing and research, For You Radio takes the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite episodes. Today, we look back to the early days of the coronavirus pandemic as Craig and Troy discuss how it's hard to be the church when we can't gather as the church. Craig and Troy talk frankly about the difficulties and struggles that come from exceptional times. `

In the few weeks while Craig finishes up his move to Minnesota and while Troy digs himself out from under an avalanche of writing and research, For You Radio takes the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite episodes. Today, we look back to February of 2021, as Craig and Troy open up the Sermon on the Mount: The Beatitudes aren't veiled Law, but pure gracious Gospel. Jesus tells us we are blessed when we are found in Him.

In the few weeks while Craig finishes up his move to Minnesota and while Troy digs himself out from under an avalanche of writing and research, For You Radio takes the opportunity to revisit some of our favorite episodes.
Today, we look back to November of 2022, as Craig and Troy dive back into listener Jeffrey's questions on God's working and actual presence in baptism and the Lord's Supper.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Death is just a natural part of life . . . right? Quite the opposite. Humanity was not created to die, and death does not belong to our human nature. Death comes as a result of sin, but thanks be to God that Christ has redeemed even death, and taken away its terror. Craig and Troy wrap up the "Being Human" series.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
All of humanity commonly bears the imago Dei, or "image of God." And yet, there's a way in which we have lost that image, and it must be restored to us. What does the first image look like, and what does the second one look like? How is that second image restored, and when will it be restored completely? Craig and Troy discuss what it's like to be human beings in the image of God.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
To be human is by its very nature to be finite. We as human beings have limitations, and always will . . . even in eternity. What does that mean for how we live in the resurrection? Craig and Troy discuss being finite both now in this sinful life and in the perfect sinless life to come.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
What is original sin? Who is responsible for it? And can we get rid of it? Craig and Troy sort out the difference between human nature and original sin in this latest episode of For You Radio.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
There is a paradox between the reality of you always taking comfort in your salvation and you nevertheless being able to reject the faith. If you are worried about losing your salvation, we have good news for you. If you think you're okay . . . well, you might not be. What does this all mean? Craig and Troy work out the paradox.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
The doctrine of election is biblical, good, and comforting . . . but also frequently misunderstood. Are some elect and others not? And if not, did Christ die for them? Craig and Troy pull at the threads of paradox between universal grace and election.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
We are obligated to do the good works of God. We must never rely upon our good works for our salvation. Good works are evidence of salvation. Did we just say three things that contradict each other? Craig and Troy work to resolve the paradox of good works that is created by our wrong thinking.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Craig and Troy work out the very nature of the Christian faith . . . but maybe it's not what you thought it was. Can we agree with God that what He says about us is true? Can we agree that we are sinners? Can we agree that we are saints? Which is it? Or is it somehow simultaneously both?
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Pardoxeses? Pardoxi? Para . . . well, whatever the plural of "paradox" is, Craig and Troy cut to the quick and determine when a paradox of the Christian faith is good, when it must not be resolved, and when it should be just believed.
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Craig and Troy draw their discussion on the 10 Commandments to a close with that most inward of all the commandments: coveting. What is coveting? Is it wrong to admire our neighbor's possessions? When do we cross the line into coveting?
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
Nothing tastes as good as a juicy bit of gossip, amirite? But hold on . . . what's really happening when we prick up our hears, and what's really happening when we pass that bit of gossip along? Craig and Troy wade into the eighth commandment, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."
What does it mean to steal? God gives the gift of property to us and to our neighbors, and we have both the expectation and the joy of helping them to protect what He has given. Craig and Troy tumble down the rabbit hole of the seventh commandment, "You shall not steal."
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
So, let's be frank: sexual sin abounds. The temptation and desire to sin is everywhere in our world. How can a person live? Where should our sexual energies be directed? When should they be restrained? Craig and Troy tackle the (awkward) issue of "Thou shalt not commit adultery."
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
The fifth commandment instructs us on the value of all human life and our responsibility to protect it. But this commandment has deeper and more far-reaching implications than we often assume. Craig and Troy wander through the tangled weeds of "Thou shall not murder."
What’s New from 1517:
More from the hosts:
We are called to serve all people, but especially those that are in authority over us. Why? Because God has instituted all authority on earth, and especially the authority found in the family.

Paul closes his letter to Timothy with a stern charge. But how will Timothy be able to fulfill his duties?
As Paul begins to wind down his letter to Timothy, he discusses what should give us true contentment.
The pastoral office is exceedingly important, and should be treated so by pastor and congregation alike.
We should respect all in the church, but especially those who are older than us and those who are destitute.
Paul instructs Timothy on how to save both himself and his hearers. Craig and Troy feel momentary conviction over being irrereverent and silly.
Run away from churches that don't proclaim Christ and Him crucified! (Oh, and Craig and Troy explain why you should.)
Only briefly distracted by another Christmas rant, Craig and Troy return to the book of Timothy to examine the qualifications of a deacon of the church
Craig McScrooge and Troy the Grinch make every effort to ruin your favorite Christmas myths . . . but they work harder to remind you of the true meaning of Christmas: Christ coming for you.
God prescribes order in the church, and gives instructions for what church and pastor must expect of the man who occupies the pastoral office.
In 1 Timothy 2, Paul sets out to describe how the church service is conducted and structured. What is governing principle for both?
The church needs a pastor, and a pastor needs the church. Timothy graduates from St. Paul Seminary, and Paul writes a letter to encourage him in this new ministry.
Craig and Troy dive back into Jeffrey's questions on God's working and actual presence in baptism and the Lord's Supper.
So, Jeffrey asked some questions about God's presence, and we thought he deserved an answer. Hopefully you'll get some benefit from this, too.

Romans 11:25—12:2
How can we know the mysterious workings of God? We look to Jesus: Jesus does His job of Jesus-ing only the way He can Jesus. Jesus never did His Messiah work the way that people thought that He should, and nothing has changed. We are blessed that He is not a God created of our own image and imagination. All of this is revealed to us through the God’s word alone, and in that word we have comfort of what Christ has done for us.

The gospel is not an if-then proposition for us to achieve by works, but a done-deal completion by Christ alone which we receive by faith. Even as a good tree bears good fruit, a living faith does living things: it confesses, believes and trusts in Christ above all things.
