It can be tempting around 2 years old to think that your child doesn’t need sleep anymore…
The toddler sleep regression is a REAL THING.
It doesn’t matter if you have an angel sleeper, or you have a kid who NEVER slept well and now everything is worse. When you have a 1-3 year old, this regression can affect anyone!!
So what is there to do about it!? I’m breaking it all down for you on today’s episode!

Is your toddler waking in the night all of a sudden, leaving you at a loss?
Whether your toddler is typically a rock star sleeper or one that keeps you on your toes, night wakings and early morning wakings are never something we look forward to or embrace as parents.
Believe it or not, it can be very common, and even normal, for toddlers to suddenly begin waking during the night or the early morning.
In this episode, I’m sharing with you four areas of your child’s sleep that you should check when it comes to solving your toddler’s night wakings.
Addressing these areas of your toddler’s sleep will help your toddler to stop waking throughout the night (or early morning!) and start sleeping a blissful, 11-12 hours again!

Do you have an 18 month suddenly regressing in their sleep!?
This is completely normal and common!! Even though your child isn’t a baby anymore, sleep regressions can still happen – so if this is your life right now with your toddler, you’ve come to the right place because I’m talking ALL about it in this week’s podcast episode!!
Tune in to hear the signs of your toddler’s regression and how you can approach it and make sleep a thing again (or what to do if it’s never been a thing…) today!!

The holidays are in the air and (at least in this hemisphere!) that means… we’re moving into WINTER!
This is often a time where we hear about sleep issues happening with toddlers and with preschoolers – it's cold outside, maybe you're not getting outside as much, and sometimes bedtime can become a hassle.
If that’s true for you, then I have good news! There are no magic gimmicks, or pills, or powders or oils or anything involved in what I’m going to tell you to do, but tune in to this episode to hear about 4 natural remedies to help your toddler or preschooler fall asleep faster and keep sleep a thing for your family!

Is your child going through crazy separation anxiety?!
There are actually 3 ages where we can pinpoint when separation anxiety will peak and, you know me!!! I’m not only going to talk about what those ages are and how they impact sleep, but I’m also going to flip the script on how you’re seeing sleep during these separation anxiety times.
My hope is that you’re able to pinpoint and then understand where you are in these peaks and get right back on track with sleep.

What if I told you there is a simple way to identify whether your child is experiencing a developmental sleep regression or a new sleepless habit?
In this podcast episode I am teaching you exactly what you need to know when it comes to understanding the difference between sleep regressions and new habits and how to handle them!

We hear about 4 month olds because of the 4 month sleep regression. And then we jump to 6-8 month olds as they move to a 2-nap schedule. But what about the 5 month olds?!
I am so passionate about this age because this is an ideal time for you to develop good sleep habits for your baby!!
So if you’re holding a 5 month old or you’re about to hit the 5 month mark, you will want to head over and listen to this episode!! I take a bit of a deep dive into what 5 month olds are like, what their sleep schedule can be, when you’ll feed baby as naps start spreading out and your routine changes, and so much more!

Somewhere around 3-5 months old you’re likely finding that your baby is no longer just stationary in their crib or bassinet!
They’re trying to move this way or move that way and it is totally normal!!! But you are mildly freaking out because all the sudden you see on the monitor that they’ve rolled onto their belly in the crib and you’re like WHAT’S HAPPENING!? My baby is rolling?!?
In this podcast episode, I’m giving you the steps and the peace of mind for what to do when your baby is rolling around in the crib!

If you’re wondering what exactly is different about Little Z's sleep training plans, or why you should follow one of our plans instead of just asking Google for help, then you will love today’s podcast episode that we’re bringing back from the vault!
While there are a lot of different ways that you can go down this path of sleep, in reality, there's only four sleep training methods. Let’s talk about which methods I use and how it can help your family.

When your newborn turns 16 weeks old, sleep changes! At 16 weeks from due date your baby now develops more mature sleep cycles that are reorganized into 4 stages vs 2 stages of sleep.
This comes with the need to change their sleep schedules at 4 months old!
In this episode, I’m sharing what the new sleep schedules will now look like and I’ll walk you through how to implement them!

Have you ever heard of Elimination Communication? I certainly had not until about 2-3 years ago. Well, it turns out there is someone who is quite the expert on Elimination Communication, or EC, and we have her on the podcast today!

We are in the middle of a series here at Little Z’s all about potty training. Last week we covered potty training in an open bed and this week I am bringing you a conversation that I had with Alison Jandu, who is the Potty Training Consultant. She is so wise and has some amazing books, courses and coaching to help families all over the world get their little one successfully potty trained!
In this episode, we talk about how to potty train. If you are thinking that your child is showing signs that it's time to potty train, but they're under 3 and in a crib, this episode is for you!

We are starting a mini series all about potty training and in today’s episode, I interview Sarah Leach, our lead sleep consultant here at Little Z’s. We are going through how she nighttime potty trained her boys when they were in an open bed.
Sarah has so many tips to share, and if you are a boy mom, you’re going to especially love it!! If you’re potty training your child who is still in a crib, we’ll cover that next week, too! Either way, be sure you send this to a friend who is also in the throes of potty training so you can commiserate with them, help them, and give them some tips. Let’s jump in!

As a Sleep Consultant, my job is to encourage and guide families to sleep success. This is great! Until the Type A Mom I’m working with begins to feel in bondage to sleep rules and schedules. That is never what we want!
Sleep brings freedom! And what I’ve realized is that our dear Type A Moms have a tendency to wrap up their worth in their child’s sleep. And let me be the first to tell you— that. is. not. true! Your worth is not linked to a short nap. You will have off days, you will bend the rules. And that’s okay. That’s why I love this episode from the archives – Letters to the Type A Mom offers us all some heart-to-heart encouragement about sleep and is just what you need today!

I think as parents and caregivers, we need this reminder: You do not have to hit rock bottom before you get help.
That’s why I’m excited to bring back one of my absolute fan-favorite podcast episodes this week talking all about when to know if it’s time to sleep train! I polled my Instagram followers and here are their top reasons that helped them know it was time to sleep train. I wonder which ones you relate to?

What is co-regulation? And how is it involved with child development? We’re diving back into the vault to bring back this interview that has been one of the top downloads of our podcast! I’m chatting with doctors Jenna Elgin and Shauna Alvarez of Helping Families Thrive – they are both psychologists who aim to support families with evidence and empathy.
There’s a lot of misinformation about parenting out there, especially with social media, so today we’re getting to the truth about parenting and co-regulation. No matter where you are when it comes to making sleep a thing, I think you’ll find this episode encouraging & helpful!

Imagine what it would be like to travel to Italy and enjoy Tuscany and Rome and all of the beautiful sights with your baby and your preschooler. How do you feel about that? How does the thought of an overnight flight and traveling across the ocean sound? If you are like, “Sign me up!”, then you’re going to love what we’re talking about today!
But if you're also like, “Oh my gosh, that sounds like a total heck no for me! Not until my kids are older!” then stick around. Because if you have the inkling to travel, but you're thinking, “No, I need to wait till my kids are older,” I am such a proponent of NOT waiting and enjoying these times. Yes, there are situations and ages where it's a little bit easier than others, but I still think that making the memories and doing the darn thing is always worth it.
This week on the podcast I invited Krista Jones, who is a friend, an incredibly talented website designer, and a mom to Bennett and Jack, as we talk through their travels to Italy.

Every once in a while people ask me, “How long do I need to keep up this 7:00pm bedtime?” And my answer is, “Well, quite a while! Kids need a lot of sleep!” BUT there does come a day where you can enjoy a later bedtime.
This summer is that time for us and I am SO excited that we have crossed the bridge now to a later bedtime!! We actually have been able to stay up and go outside at 8:45 and catch fireflies and then come inside and quickly get ready for bed. It's just such a blissful time.
I want to tell you this because most of y'all are listening with babies or toddlers or preschoolers and you're wondering, “When will I get to enjoy these summer evenings??” So I'm sharing with you what we do and how we transitioned from a 7pm bedtime to a 9pm bedtime over the years.
If you are new to the baby world, you may be wondering why the heck babies need all this stuff for sleep!! Can’t they just lay on a mattress and go to sleep? (Yes and no!)
Today we’re talking all about sleep sacks! Consider this your ultimate guide to understanding what sleep sacks are, how to pick the right one, and if your baby can sleep without one!

Today we’re talking all about how to transition your newborn or baby out of a swaddle! I’m sharing the ages that we’ll start to transition out of the swaddle, what to do if you have a baby who is still swaddled, and some encouragement from a Little Z’s team member who made this transition recently because I want you to hear from someone who just did this!!
If you have an upcoming trip that inevitably crosses over time zones, this is for you! I’m giving you a plan for how to travel across domestic time zone changes today.
One of the questions I get asked ALL the time as a pediatric sleep consultant is this: What do I do when my baby falls asleep in the car?
Today I’ll walk through what exactly to do if that happens with 3 different solutions!!
We’ve all been there – you put your baby to sleep for their nap and you’re happy to finally have time to hash out some work or clean up the house or maybe just take a break for an hour and a half.
But then… like clockwork, 29 minutes later or 30 minutes or even 32 minutes and 45 seconds later, they’re awake!
Today I’m going to give you the 4 checks that we’re going to use to solve your baby’s short naps. Get ready to kiss those frustrating short naps goodbye and welcome longer naps!
If you have a toddler who is not napping – they’re rejecting their naps or they’re treating it like play time in their crib – I have 4 reasons that this might be happening and today I’m going to tell you all about it and give you the strategies on how to improve naps starting TODAY!
In this video, I’ll give you the steps and the peace of mind for what to do when your baby starts to roll around in the crib!
You just had an amazing vacation!!! Maybe you’re headed home and you’re like.. I need to get back to my sleep expectations! It’s time to get back to schedules and routines and real life.
Today I’m giving you my 2 strategies on how to get back on track after you’re home from your vacation. You’ve had an amazing trip, but now it’s back to reality, back to sleep schedules, and back to keeping sleep a thing!
So you have an amazing vacation planned, or maybe you’re just stepping out of town for a few days… How do you handle the travel day with your baby?!
In today’s video I’m giving you everything you need to know about when to leave, what your routines will be like, naps, and bedtime after that travel day! Plus you’ll hear whether I think traveling with babies is worth it… (Spoiler alert: it is!!!)
When you’re traveling with your baby, it can seem like you have to pack your entire house! And I get it! Gone are the days where you can just carelessly throw a few items in your bag and head out the door.
Now you have a huge list of what to pack for your baby!
Today I’m giving you my packing list for your baby as you head out of your home, no matter where you’re going (and don’t worry – it’s not the whole house!). And I’ll highlight the specific sleep things (and non-sleep things) that you definitely want to bring with you!
Is your child going through crazy separation anxiety?!
There are actually 3 ages where we can pinpoint when separation anxiety will peak and, you know me! I’m not only going to talk about what those ages are and how they impact sleep, but I’m also going to flip the script on how you’re seeing sleep during these separation anxiety times.
What does “drowsy but awake” even mean? Can you even be drowsy but awake? Why are these two concepts just not matching? Why can’t you get them to work when the rest of the baby world and sleep world and Instagram world insists it’s best?
In my world, “drowsy but awake” is not real and today we’re going to talk ALL about it.
Did you know that by 13 months old there should be NO bottles in your baby’s life?! According to the AAP they need to be transitioned to an open or sippy cup by this age!
So, in this video, I’m going to walk through the 2 ways to transition off the bottle and why this may be causing problems in your baby’s sleep.
AAP Guidelines: https://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/feeding-nutrition/Pages/Discontinuing-the-Bottle.aspx
The #1 question we hear parents ask about is teething! But does teething really impact sleep? In this podcast episode I'm sharing my real and raw take on how teething does NOT affect your baby's sleep. I'll give you guidance on how to help your baby as they go through this season and of course help you KEEP sleep a thing!

It’s no secret that the Cry It Out (CIO) Method is an extremely polarizing topic.
I have always been known for my straightforward, “no fluff” content and that is something I developed after being a third and a fifth grade teacher.
As an elementary teacher, you have one very small opportunity to capture your students’ attention.
If you don’t get to the point and capture your students’ attention, you’ve lost the pivotal teaching moment!
The same is true in the sleep consulting world.
That’s why at Little Z’s, we have made it our mission to tackle the heart of each sleep topic that we cover.
We don’t beat around the bush.
When it comes to the Cry It Out Method, the “OG,” “no fluff” Becca is back.
In this video and blog, I tell you exactly why I don’t teach the Cry It Out Method in any of my Sleep Training Programs.

Between ages 12-15 weeks you're in an awkward stage where you feel like your baby isn't a newborn any more, and they aren't really a baby yet...so where are we? A 12-15 week old is technically still a newborn as they have chaotic sleep cycles and they have not yet gone through a transformation where sleep cycles change from just 2 cycles (REM and NREM) to fully mature sleep cycles (REM and all stages of NREM).
In this episode I'm sharing the strategies that you can use with this "awkward" stage to help make sleep a whole lot better right now!

It's my hope that when your family has a schedule for naps and nights, you feel FREE to get out and enjoy your life. It's true! And on the off days that sleep needs to be changed due to life events, we want you to go off schedule and enjoy! Sundays have always been a tricky day for many of the Little Z's families. We always say "there are no unicorns" when it comes to children and sleep. All children NEED sleep, but sometimes there are some puzzles to solve. Lead Sleep Consultant at Little Z's, Sarah Leach, knows this well! Her son John had some major issues with not getting enough sleep, constant exhaustion and mouth breathing. This led her to advocate for a solution...and the answer was not what we expected! I get it. You're stuck in a rut of exhausted nights because if you let your baby cry, your older child will wake up. And what's worse than a baby waking throughout the night? BOTH kids waking up throughout the night! But here's the thing - in that situation, there's no end in sight. No light at the end of a sleep deprived tunnel. Instead, today on the podcast (a very raw and unedited episode) I'm sharing some tips and encouragement on how to handle sleep training baby while you have an older child. We're celebrating our FOURTH year of Podcasting! Would you leave a review on Apple Podcast or Google Reviews to share your story of how you've made sleep a thing with Little Z's?! On this episode I'm discussing tips and strategies on room sharing with your baby. Remember that the AAP has a "suggestion" to room share for 6 months, if possible 12 months. But this is not a rule that you MUST follow- it's a suggestion that you need to take into consideration with your lifestyle. Some parents want to room share for as long as possible, and others start baby in their own room from day 1! This is your decision and you do need to make the call for what's best for YOUR family. It was 10pm one night and Lauren was holding her screaming baby. She was so tired she couldn't remember the last time her baby ate, had a poop or took a nap. In desperation she sent her husband to Target. Surely if there is a button that brings food to your house (thanks Door Dash!), there MUST be a device (that isn't a phone!) to track baby's day to day activity. He came home empty handed, and that's when Lauren and her husband started building their own one-touch logger...Talli Baby was born! https://talli.me/ () In this episode Lauren Longo, creator of Talli Baby, shares why it was important to build a device that doesn't depend on having your phone nearby, how it brings peace of mind to families and why using a tracker like Talli is helpful to families with multiple caretakers. https://talli.me/ (>>SHOP TALLI BABY) https://littlezsleep.com/schedulegenerator (>> FREE SCHEDULE GENERATOR) https://www.instagram.com/talli_baby_tracker/ (Follow Talli Baby on Instagram) https://www.instagram.com/littlezsleep/ (Follow Becca on Instagram)

Vered Benhorin joins me on the podcast this week to share how music helps you understand your baby's cues. Vered is a musician, music therapist, owner of Baby In Tune and mom of 3. She teaches parents of babies how to use music to speak their baby’s language, get more sleep, and have more fun. When she had her first baby eleven years ago, she struggled with nursing issues, felt overwhelmed and utterly exhausted all the time. In a moment of frustration she pushed herself to sing to her baby. Through the immediate soothing that she and her baby BOTH felt, and the connection that developed between them, Baby in Tune was born. Vered uses her natural ability to write songs that give words to the experience of parents and babies, combined with her passion for blending music therapy techniques with concepts from psychology, to help thousands of parents feel like they know what they’re doing. Find all of Vered's award winning albums for families on Spotify/Amazon/iTunes. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and three kids, who brought her back to music through motherhood.

This is a podcast in a series on how REAL families do their bedtime routines for their kids. This week I have 3 amazing moms who are all solo parenting while Dad is at work. Sarah- Has 2 young boys and husband is a detective who leaves home at 2PM until late nights Catherine- Has 1 young son and husband is a nurse who works night shifts Lindsay- Has 1 young toddler and husband works on-call for the railroad Each mom has their own unique story and family and I've asked them to share how THEY do their routines solo. We recorded these as three separate interviews and pieced them together in a way that covers three main topics: 1) Share what is unique about their family 2) Share tips they have for solo parenting 3) Walk us through what your schedule/routine looks like Last, I want to remind you that these are amazing moms who have made decisions that are right for their family - and that is what this is all about - so as much as I encourage you all to leave reviews and comments, let’s be mindful that these are great moms who have courageously joined me on the podcast to put their stories out there to the world...and that is what I love so much about our Little Z’s families.

Throughout the year Little Z's hosts families on my Instagram to show how THEY do their sleep routines and manage their families. On those days the viewership SKYYROCKETS and we know it's because, as Michael Alsop says, you want to know "OH! Other people don't do it exactly like Becca teaches!" No! Everyone takes their own spin on routines post-sleep training...and that's the hope!! My goal is that families feel empowered with their new sleeper and can become flexible knowing they have the tools needed to keep their great sleeper. Today on the Podcast I'm kicking off a series of how OTHER families do bedtime routines. First up is Katelyn & Michael Alsop, parents to Everly (3) & Graham (1) and a baby boy James in heaven. On this episode Katelyn & Michael share their bedtime routine with me, as well as updates on sleep apnea for Evy, taking the pacifiers away for Graham and what they look forward to after the kids go down. As wedding photographers, Katelyn and Michael average 8-10 weddings annually while teaching thousands of photographers through their online courses. They are passionate about traveling, home design, & spending time dreaming and brainstorming with their closest friends! Trapped for naps all day at home?? Yep, been there! A few years ago my oldest was on a 1 nap schedule and my youngest was rocking 2 naps. That meant that we had maybe 1.5 hours between naps, and then an awkward gap at the end of the day when no one wanted to hang out...and gym classes weren't meeting. So, I took matters into my own hands! I manipulated our nap schedule so that I could get out and enjoy a yoga class! In this episode I teach you: How to know if this is a right fit for your baby What I did to manipulate my daughter's nap schedule How much sleep a 6-12 month baby needs each day What bending the rules and enjoying a great sleeper is like!

When polled about when the last date night was, it was almost like crickets. But then! When asked "What's holding you back from getting a babysitter?" the flood gates opened! Hundreds of you said you're struggling with trusting others to watch your child and can't afford to hire a babysitter. These are big topics! And I actually didn't feel 100% qualified to come and tell YOU how to manage it. So I called up my mom, the wisest person I know, and invited her on the show to talk through it! We talk through these replies: "I don't trust anyone with my child but me." "I'm afraid if I'm not there to micromanage my baby's needs won't be met." "We just moved to a new country and don't know anyone." "It's expensive to have a babysitter." Years ago, people believed when you slept your whole body shutdown. But when sleep studies became a thing in the 60s/70s, we started learning quite the opposite!! Your brain actually is totally active during your sleep, and doing a lot of work to keep you healthy! In this episode Becca talks with Krystine who works at a sleep study lab in Oregon (and has taken our Sleep E-Coaching Programs and is also in the Sleep Society!). We go through the science behind our sleep, what happens when we cycle in and out of sleep cycles, what sleep apnea is, why snoring isn't normal, and why we would certainly die if we didn't sleep. Krystine cites many of her facts from The Fundamentals of Sleep Technology. Want to read more about sleep? I recently had a mom ask, “My 1 year old wakes up multiple times a night to nurse. Is that normal?” My response? OUR CULTURE says it’s normal. But that’s not what we should be considering normal. Our culture says: -Coffee first -Rock them, they’re only little once. -It’s a phase, one day they’ll sleep. -I’m tired as a mother. A well rested Mom says: -I can enjoy my child more. -My baby is happier and thriving. -I’ll actually remember this time of parenting, instead of surviving. -I’m a happier mom becasue we sleep. Know Their Personality: You're about to get really intimate with this person! For a few weeks we'll be coaching you through the emotional rollercoaster that is sleep training, and you'll want to make sure you like the person coaching you! Before you begin any 1:1 coaching, hop on the phone with the Consultant and make sure you like their personality and they make you feel comfortable (never judging you!). Are They Practical For Your Family: Does your little one have a medical condition they need to know about? Ask if they've ever worked with this before, and see if they are willing to lean + grow by working with you. What abut their cost? While a good night sleep is actually priceless, don't ever hire cheap help- and know what you're getting with your investment!
Want to know more about Becca? READ HERE! Or, listen to more Podcast episodes! Finally, when you commit to working with a consultant, please be mindful of these 3 things: Be committed. Don't go off sticking your nose in other strategies or consultants or blogs. Trust the person you've decided to work with! Be honest. I always want my clients to share what they are thinking and feeling, otherwise I can't help them fully!! We're all a team, so keep your consultant in the loop on how you're doing emotionally during this process. Be nice. The golden rule, right? Treat others as you would wish to be treated. It's easy to be rude when you're not seeing results. But being honest about your frustrations is the nice way- being rude about things won't get you far! Just be nice to the person who is working their butt off to help you!

So you have a sleepless child, but your'e hesitating about making change. It's okay! I get it! Over the years I've talked with so many families who are READY...and many families who want to make change, but aren't ready to commit. I'm sharing 3 ways you know you're ready to GET STARTED and make lasting change. SLEEP TRAINING BY AGES: NEWBORN- no sleep training! It's time to lay the foundation for great sleep with my Newborn Course. 4 MONTHS- Time to teach baby to self-soothe, and narrow it down to 1 good night feed...eat eat eat during the day!! We also want to establish a great napping routine for baby. 5 MONTHS + - Let's sleep all night!! We need to teach baby that sleep IS a thing, and they are in control! At 6 months we are working towards a solid nap schedule. TODDLER + - It's never too late to make great sleep! Yes it gets harder as the child ages, but that doesn't mean it's impossible! We're aiming for 10-12 hours of night sleep and (if under 3 years) a nice mid-day nap. The key? Sleep should be stress-free!!

Raise your hand if your child is the master of the 30 minute nap?! Or maybe you've nailed it down to exactly 33 minutes?! Yes, I hear that ALL the time! Short naps are for sure a common theme with my clients, and we work hard to solve them! What's the reason behind them? Daytime sleep cycles around about (you guessed it) 30 minutes! So typically the child is waking up after one sleep cycle and not really sure how to go back to sleep. On this week's podcast I'm sharing this checklist: What's baby looking for? How's the environment? Know your age expectations!

Hey there! I’m Becca Campbell, your pediatric sleep consultant, and this is the Little Z’s Sleep Podcast Episode #31 - all about toddler clocks. This is very fresh in my memory because if you’ve been following me on instagram @littlezsleep you have seen the journey of my two girls and why we have recently implemented our clock. On today’s podcast I’m actually going to treat this like you are my client, and I’m going to walk through why you might need a toddler clock, how you should set it up, which types and brands I prefer, and give you some realistic expectations for using them. I know it might sound as easy as throwing a clock in their room and off you go, but there’s actually a lot to it! We have to ease them in. In this episode I'm reviewing: -What age to use a toddler clock -How to introduce the new clock -What types I recommend (see links below) -Setting expectations for the first few mornings -How to motivate your child to use them __________________________________________ FULL REVIEW FROM MOM: "Becca helped us tremendously and I highly recommend her. We were having problems with our 3.5 year old fighting bed time (kicking and screaming for 2 hours per night), waking up in the night and only wanting to be consoled by daddy, and waking up before 6 a.m. We were hopeless and fearful that he would wake up our 16 month old, so catered to his demands. Becca helped us immediately and after 1 week, we consistently had 0 night wakings and bedtime wasn't a fight. To be completely honest, I was skeptical that she could help us, thinking I'd read books and articles on my own and nothing would help, he just didn't need sleep. But, that wasn't true and my husband and I are both happy with our decision to seek help, particularly with Becca. Her advice and custom plan helped us tackle bedtime routine in an aligned way. She also talked through scenarios when our 15 month old unexpectedly started having sleep issues. I can say that we wouldn't have the peaceful nights that we are having now without her. She has given us back our free time at night, which is truly invaluable." -Virginia, mom to 3.5 year old boy __________________________________________ MY FAVORITE TODDLER CLOCKS: http://ooly123.com (Ooly More Sleep) https://amzn.to/2xXBiIx (Hatch Baby Rest) https://amzn.to/2OyCcVk (OK To Wake Clock) https://amzn.to/2IBO1EN (Kid'Sleep Classic) ___________________________________________ SUPPORT THE PODCAST: Join us each week through Patreon, a platform where you can support the podcast for $6/month and receive additional bonuses each week: -Deleted minutes from each episode -Exclusive commentary PDF guide -Q&A follow up from podcast episodes -Get the podcast early http://www.patreon.com/littlezsleep (JOIN PATREON for $6) ____________________________________________ CONNECT WITH BECCA: http://www.instagram.com/littlezsleep (Instagram) http://www.facebook.com/littlezsleep (Facebook) HTTP://WWW.LITTLEZSLEEP.COM (Website)

Throughout my work with clients I've found Nightmares and Night Terrors are vastly misunderstood. On today's episode I aim to educate you on the difference between night mares and night terrors, as well as give you strategies to help you child cope with either one. Nightmares Nightmares tend to occur several hours after going to bed or in the very early hours of the morning during REM sleep. Children DO respond to comfort and reassurance. They also may be reluctant to go back to sleep until they feel safe. Nightmares occur during the stage of sleep when the brain is very active and sorting through experiences and new information for learning and memory. Since these images are so vivid your child might not be able to distinguish what’s real and what’s not real.
Night Terrors Night Terrors tend to occur 2-3 hours after going to bed and during deep non-REM sleep. Only children ages 2.5 years + can experience a night terror Children DO NOT respond to efforts of comfort and reassurance and it’s best not to wake them during a Night Terror. Children will not remember Night Terrors and are not awake during their episodes. There are no mental images for the child to recall from their experience.
Overtiredness is one main cause for both night mares and night terrors. To help your child work through these, try adjusting their bedtime 15 minutes earlier to see a difference in their sleep. Waking up between 4-6am is the most common (and most frustrating) problem my clients experience! And guess what? I actually expect this problem to arise once your child learns to consistently sleep 11-12 hours. So how do we fix it? In this episode I'm sharing strategies to solve your child's early morning wakes by sharing two case studies from former clients. Check the Environment: 1. Create a room that is as dark as possible. >>THESE are my favorite blackout window covers! 2. White noise to protect your child's room from the environment https://amzn.to/2ugIeyl (>>This is my favorite white noise machine!) 3. No distractions in the crib or bed! Now stop doing this: 1. Instant gratification! 2. Delay first bottle/nursing session 3. Avoid instant snuggles/snoozes in your bed Remember to give it some time! Once you begin implementing strategies it can take 4-6 weeks to "re-wire" your child's habits!

After working with hundreds of families, I've heard parents ask me LOTS of questions. These are the most frequently asked Dad questions I receive. I love talking through these questions with them, and then turning them into sleep believers!!
Download the 13 questions Dads most frequently ask me HERE! When I speak with a family and Mom says, "I'm ready. But my husband said no because ___________." There are actually three responses I get most often: 1. "...He wants us to try one more thing." 2. "...He says this is just a phase." 3. "...He doesn't think we need to hire someone." Now I will say Moms have these questions too, it's just that Dads tend to voice them much more strongly. On today's episode I'm answering these three "My husband says no because..." and sharing 10 more here! Perfect for babies 0-12 weeks old, this course will help you lay expectations and routines for baby...creating sanity for everyone! This episode is just a 12 minute segment from a one hour interview with Dr. Janet West, Pediatrician (RVA Baby), that you'll get IN the Newborn Course! We answered questions like: What is the difference between gas drops and gripe water? What is gripe water?! How can I know if my baby has reflux? Can you overdose on saline spray?! Can I bring my baby to the beach? Ready to get started with Little Z's Online Newborn Course?! http://www.onlinenewborncourse.com (Learn more here!!) Here are Dr. West's tips to find a Pediatrician: 1) American Academy of Pediatrics- find a board certified doctor 2) Understand that your relationship with your Pediatrician is more than a service, it's a personal relationship. "It's like shopping for a mate! When you're in distress, you want someone who can be there to support you." 3) Make sure the doctor office is available for visits!! 4) Doesn't just have to be a Pediatrician- can be a Family Physician you have a great relationship too! 5) Consider your needs: are you high needs? Do you need someone to answer your questions all the time? 6) Two ways to go with finding a practice: Large Practice with weekend and extended hours vs. Small Practice. Pros and cons to both! Going with a Large Practice? Ask these questions: How often do I find my primary care doctor? Will I see them for every well visit? When I call- do you have a nurse available for questions right away? Is my doctor available if I need to talk with them? How fast will you get back with me? 2 hours? 24 hours? When I call at night- who will I speak to? Will there be a nurse to answer my questions to decide if I should bring my baby in to the doctor? When you visit the practice, are there a lot of families there?
"A good physician wants to partner with you." Going with a Small Practice? Ask these questions: Are there weekend hours or extended hours? Is there a nurse line service who I can talk to when I call to ask questions? Where will you send me after hours?

Is your child's bedtime routine taking an hour or more each night? "One more book!" "Potty!" "More hugs!" "One more ____!" The bedtime stalling game is just that...a game!! Let me give you the winning move with this simple little tool that will completely change your bedtime routine while letting your child win! My favorite way to combat the bedtime stalling game is a timer! Yep, and not just ANY timer but the Time Timer. Using the Time Timer as a way to teach your child time management but also entice them to bed WHILE enjoying the routine takes the stress out of bedtime! In this episode Becca lays out your plan of how to use the timer for each portion of the bedtime routine, and specifically details WHY this timer works! (No longer YOU saying, "Time for bed!")

This episode is all about answering a few of those “Sticky Questions” I am always asked. But let me ask you one first… Why are parents so quick to comfort their child when crying, yet they themselves are willing to go so long with uncomfortable, sleepless nights? How long is too long for a child to cry? How long is too long for a parent to finally cry out for help?
Join me as I share with you my sleep philosophy that has helped hundreds of families resolve those exhausting sleep habits. Two of the most common questions parents are either embarrassed or nervous to ask are: #1 - Will you be telling me to do Cry It Out? Let me explain to you what this really means, what some pediatricians have said about it, and my philosophy on crying when working with families. #2 - How long should my baby be crying? Have your pen and paper ready… I’m about to give you the magic number! Just kidding. I explain how you should sleep train with a plan and purpose, not a magic number. There is also power in accountability, and I will share with you a personal experience on this. In this episode I talk about one of my newest and most popular ways to work with families: Virtual Group Coaching. Join the next group and Get Sleep Now! My Motto: A baby who is well rested is happier, healthier, and eager to explore the world around them. _________________________________________ Connect with me on instagram @littlezsleep, my favorite place to talk with families, and let me know you listened to this episode by sending me a message stating your ultimate goal for your child's sleep! This episode will help set you free! Free from what you might wonder? Well just when you think you’ve figured out the newborn phase and settled into a new normal, everything changes! Your child will now only go to sleep in your arms, becomes way more dependent on you, and you are more exhausted than ever! Welcome to the 4-Month regression. Yes, it’s a thing! Moms of newborns are anxious about it, and moms of 8-month olds are wondering why in the world things are getting worse when they should be getting better In this episode I will talk about this 4-month regression and how it is really a progression! Baby has reached some milestones, and it is time to arm yourself with the tools on how to deal with it. I will also give you some action steps to help you gain that sleep independence. #1: Get out of the swaddle, Get into a SleepSack. Your baby can’t learn to self-soothe when rolled up like a little burrito. It’s time to transition out of a swaddle and into a SleepSack. Which SleepSack? I have you covered.. grab my SleepSack guide at littlezsleep.com/sleepsack #2: Naps On-The-Go must GO! When was the last time you slept in the car and woke up feeling wonderful and refreshed? Um..Never! At 4-months old baby loses the ability to transition out of a car and into a crib. Let me give you some tips to make sure you won’t be a prisoner of your own home while still being able to get great naps. #3: Beware, or “Be-Aware” of Awake Times Finding that sweet spot on how long to stay awake and when to take a nap is hard, and too many people miss the mark! Let me give you some helpful guidelines on awake times at this age. If you keep your baby awake until they ‘crash’, it will only crash YOUR night! Bonus #4: Get Dad involved The amount of time mom spends with baby is often disproportional to dad. Lets face it.. only mom can nurse, and there is something about a mom’s touch… It’s time for TEAM MOM AND DAD. Let me share with you the two best places to get Dad involved in the bedtime routine, and why Dads are often better at this one particular thing than moms are! You might be wondering how my clients feel about me exposing all of their dirty laundry for the world to see… You are probably asking… -What if I become a client? Will she share about me? -Isn’t the client-consultant relationship special? Private? Confidential?!?! But would you believe it is my CLIENTS who are now sharing with everyone their mischievous ways!! Why? Because they know what a BIG difference coming clean made to their sleep story, and they want everyone to know it! These 10 simple things they thought were ‘no big deal’ for me to know about ended up becoming (in many cases) the BIGGEST barrier to resolving those exhausting sleep habits. Listen, you can try to keep your ‘secrets’ from me… but the one thing you can’t hide from your spouse, your friends, your boss, (or yours truly!) is that you are EXHAUSTED! Am I right? Working through these things is by no means EASY, because sleep training isn’t easy! But sometimes you have to give the problem a name, call it what it is, take it to task, hang it out to dry, and wipe your hands clean of it. Are you ready? http://www.littlezsleep.com/tenthings (Download the FULL List of 10 Things My Clients Try To Hide!) ____________________________________________________ #1: Disagreement - When Mom and Dad are on Different Pages Shouldn’t parents be working on making their child’s sleep easier instead of making their marriage harder? I quickly discover the happy smiling (and tired) couple I consulted with forgot to mention one little thing... they saw things differently! Dad wanted to take a more aggressive approach to sleep training, but Mom wanted a softer strategy. Mom was going to try to power through alone, but Dad wanted to be more involved. #2: Tolerance - When crying becomes too much Your child’s crying is what I call a pain point, and nobody enjoys admitting when they are in a lot of pain. Parents come to me desperate and exhausted - ready to do absolutely anything to get their child to sleep. But what my clients often hide from me is how they REALLY feel about crying. It is easy to commit in the moment to following a new plan with all of the strength and resolve you can muster, but when your child is relentlessly crying and protesting the new changes, your paternal instincts kick in and nothing will stop you from reacting. You thought you could tolerate it, but then reality hit. #3: Pacifier - A quick fix, a lasting problem I’m going to step on some toes here! Around 4 months old it's time to ditch the pacifier. There are three ways it becomes a bad habit and I need you to steer clear!! a) Broken Sleep Habits b) Speech Delay c) Improper Dental Development #4: Rock N Play - it's not called the Rock N Sleep! Probably the #1 Baby Item out there and here I am telling you to avoid it!! Trust me, I'm doing you a huge favor! The RNP keeps baby all snug and cozy, which is totally fine! But the issue lies in long naps and night sleep in this product that is known to cause flat-head syndrome and inability to teach him/her to self-soothe.

PODCAST EPISODE 1 - DREAMING BIG Hey! I'm Becca Campbell, Your Pediatric Sleep Consultant. This is the Little Z Sleep Podcast! It’s Episode 1! I want to take a few minutes to welcome you, encourage you, give your high-five and a hug and say... let’s resolve your child’s exhausting sleep habits! In case you want to know a little about me before we dive in… I haven’t always been a sleep consultant, but I have always loved sleep! When I was little, I loved sleeping beauty. When I was younger I didn’t even want to be rocked, I just wanted to go to bed Flash forward to college, I would obsess and count every night I got 8 hours of sleep. In fact I did ONE all-nighter and it was TERRIBLE. Sleep has always been precious to me!
So, when we had our first daughter, we didn’t know what to do with ourselves, we were exhausted Up multiple times throughout the night We were both career parents working jobs, it was miserable every night not knowing what to expect hours on end I was struggling, even with PPD, I didn’t understand, beating myself up, Sleep is the foundation of help, and we just weren’t sleeping We didn’t understand why baby wasn’t sleeping… see pictures and videos of sweet newborns sleeping snug on mom and dad, and we barely had any of that Not only was it misery, it became extremely dangerous - share stories Ended up working with a consultant after sitting down on google (like every exhausted parent) and typed “how do I get my baby to sleep” and became overwhelmed and things that promised a good night’s sleep But I wanted help, after I tried and failed to do it myself. I’m so tired, I don’t know what I’m doing, I can’t teach myself Sleep is not complex, but putting the pieces together often is Some people understood my joy after success, others didn’t Maybe that is you… you are so excited and now want to maintain that every night, or maybe you are tired and are just trying to survive I don’t judge, my goal is to resolve and change the habits.
As we walk through this podcast together, that is the goal! Resolve your child's exhausting sleep habits. Together! Biggest question I have for you: what do you want to see differently? When I understand your goal and what you dream of, what you want to wave that magic wand over where you want to be, that is how I know I can help you. So often we are dreaming small. If you are up 1 times a night or 4 times a night, it doesn’t matter, you have an end goal of wanting to sleep well, and when parents are desperate for just 8 hours or 6 hours of sleep, I say great, we are going to do that, and I’m going to double it for you. We are going for 12 hours a night What I love is giving and providing them the tools to get this, and that is what my job is all about! I work with kids from Day 1 to 7 Years old- and no matter the age it has everything to do with habits and guiding parents! A few months back Daniel called me from the hospital. They just had their daughter Lilly and he did not want trial and error. He wanted to get it right the first time. While parenting is trail and error, but I don’t want your sleep story to be trial and error. That is why this podcast exists, to talk to you, teach you, and equip you with exactly what to do and how to do it and be able to provide you with solid sleep that lasts a lifetime That is my belief, when we resolve your child’s sleep, it is a gift that lasts a lifetime. So I can be on the other side, flash forward 3 years, and my daughter is sleeping 12 hours every single night, and we have a second daughter, sharing a room, and even great naps (another story letter) For now, spread the word to friends and sleep deprived moms that this podcast is for you!!! Tune in every week with me as we walk through ways and strategies and stories to get your family the sleep that they deserve. Sweet dreams & see you next time Becca Campbell...
