When skateboarding and listening to punk rock, turns into running a business and being productive! Conversations with people worth promoting; about concepts, creators and causes worth knowing about. A podcast by Misael Trujillo.
It was honestly such an honour getting to chat with Poli Van Dam for this episode of the podcast. Poli plays covers guitar & vocal duties as co-frontwoman of The Bombpops; along with Jen Razavi. I discovered The Bombpops a few years ago through Fat Wreck Chords, I was living in Barcelona and the weather was just perfect for the vibes, I become an instant fan. Their latest album 'Death In Venice Beach' is an absolute banger and came out last year just as COVID decided to rear it's ugly head.

I was incredibly excited to chat with someone I find so encouraging and we cover a LOT. The Bombpops, home schooling, touring with Type 1 diabetes, taking on too many projects, falling in love with Punk Rock, having it together and a whole load more! I really, really, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Loved chatting with Anika Pyle for this episode of the podcast! You might know Anika from playing in the bands 'Chumped', 'Katie Ellen' and 'Sheena, Anika & Augusta', all three bands I love and you should definitely check out. However, you should also be aware of their incredible solo material, 'Wild River' in particular, being their most recent and brutally honest release, which gives me all the feels and has become an integral part of my lockdown soundtrack.

On this episode of the podcast I have a chat with Dylan Slocum; lead singer & guitarist for Spanish Love Songs. I've loved every single one of Spanish Love Songs records, last years release 'Brave Faces Everyone' has become an integral part of my lockdown soundtrack. I was excited to chat to Dylan about the band and their wonderful Patreon content, but also to dig a little into his background as an assistant to a Hollywood screenwriter/director. He didn't disappoint.

The conversation is a realistic view on what bands are dealing with both at the moment and on an ongoing basis, the marketing, uncertainty, financial struggles, sustainbility ... that being said, it's also an encouraging chat that shows how important it is to be adaptable. I found Dylan's view on things incredibly relatable, especially when it comes to social media and the amount of energy I have available to dedicate to it. I really hope you enjoy the chat, because I love having Dylan on the show. Can not wait for gigs to be back so I can sing along live again.

Absolute honour chatting to Jason Lytle; singer and songwriter for the band Grandaddy, as well as solo musician and absolute legend, on this episode of the podcast. It's hard to describe how much it meant to me to chat with Jason, I'm incredibly thankful. 'Sophtware Slump' is an album that really affected me and my music taste in a major way, hearing it recently reworked and stripped back on the wooden piano was absolutely wonderful too. It's not just that album though, Jason's work just hits me where it hurts (in the best way possible) and; in particular, his solo release 'Yours Truly, The Commuter' gained new meaning when I had to go back to London and commute daily a while back. I don't think I ever quite cried at 8am on a packed Central Line tube, but I've sure come close (that's a lie, I've cried on the tube plenty of times).

We cover a lot on the episode. I was looking forward to chatting about Jason's relationship with skateboarding and how that affected his trajectory, I obviously wanted to talk about music, but we also touch on mental health, marketing, our relationship with social media, finding balance and everything in between. I really hope you enjoy this one. Thanks Jason.

On this episode I chat to Jimmy Stadt from Polar Bear Club & now a new band called Shy Tooth. This conversation means a whole lot to me, PBC were a band that inspired and captivated me like few others and I was incredibly gutted when they chose to call it a day. Shy Tooth have a new record coming out called 'Ultrasuede' and I couldn't be more excited!!! The single they've already released from it; 'Too Kind', is an absolute banger; as is the EP 'wavelengths' they released last year. Composed of members of Polar Bear Club, Marathon, Coming Down, Like Wolves and Green Dreams, you know you have to be excited. On the show Jimmy describes it like a super amped up Elvis Costello and I'm not going to argue with that, all I know is, it's bloody gorgeous and I wan't more.

On this episode I chat to Dan Palmer, lead guitarist for Zebrahead, Death By Stereo, Fear No Empire, a bunch of cover bands aaaaannnd he's also a sessions musician. Basically Dan loves to play music and this episode is all about his attitude and passion towards what he does.

Zebrahead have been a band I listened to a lot growing up. I'm pretty sure they got on my radar in 2007 when I caught them at the Bournemouth B.I.C.. and as far as I know Dan didn't start playing with them for a few years still. There a band that I always associate with fun times, they never took themselves too seriously and they were a guaranteed good time at festivals.
It was also around this time that I also become a fan of Death By Stereo though, I remember them playing at the Bournemouth Opera House and finding people on MySpace to go watch them with. So, by the time Dan joined Zebrahead I was pretty familiar with both bands and really into the fact that Dan was juggling two bands that toured heavily; not to mentioned sounded pretty different to each other.
It was an absolute pleasure getting to chat to him all these years later and getting to pick his brain. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

Loved having this conversation with Shane Brady; actor, magician and complete legend, who's been in a bunch of my favourite films including The Endless, Spring, Doctor Sleep & Synchronic.

I initially stumbled across Shane's name repeatedly through powerhouse indie directors Aaron Moorhead & Justin Benson's incredible filmography. I'm a massive fan of their films and kept seeing Shane's name pop up, playing incredibly memorable characters that really stuck with me. I knew I was looking forward to hearing about his career, but I wasn't expecting to have such a great time chatting. He's a super charming, funny and smart guy who's got an incredibly positive and infectious energy.
Ever wondered what the difference is between working on an indie film & a major blockbuster? Covered it!
Rabbits, hats and Stephen King? There's a story about that too.
Prosthetics that never get used, broken necks, magic, it's all in there.
Hearing about his experiences working on set of some of my favourite movies was amazing and I really hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

I stumbled across Violent Soho years ago whilst trying to find the UK Punk band 'WACO' on Spotify and finding Violent Soho's album of the same name. I was an instant fan of their hard hitting songs which somehow reminded me of a Punk Rock Buck Roger era Feeder; mixed in with 90's grunge and feel good anthemic singalongs.
I've followed the bands output for the last few years and have been rewarded with banger after banger, this includes their 2020 release 'Everything is A-OK', which is HUGE and deserves to be heard in live venues as soon as Covid allows.

We talk about keeping things simple, learning from your mistakes, opening an indoor bar & skatepark, having a DIY ethos and lots, lots more! Definitely a brand to support and keep your eyes on! I expect big things to come and I'm super thankful to Ben for coming on the show!

This weeks conversation is with Kevin Douch, Owner of UK Record Label 'Big Scary Monsters' who have provided me with so many records over the past few years it's hard to know where to start.
They have been a bench mark for the UK music scene for the past 20 years and consistently collaborate with incredible artists. Having worked with legends such as Vinnie Caruana, Laura Jane Grace, Kevin Devine and La Dispute to name a few; not to mention my personal UK faves Nervus and Cultdreams, I knew this was going to be a good conversation!

Soooo, yeah, it's been a while.
Life got a bit hectic there, but I'm back and I have an episode that I guarantee will make it up to you.
Just before I lost all sense of time and was consumed with working for others/paying off bills, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Dan Le Sac. Honestly, that's huge for 31 year old me, but even bigger for me at 17 years old, standing awestruck at Mr Kypps in Poole having my mind completely blown by Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip.
Weird thing is, I never even finished editing the episode, it got left on an old computer along with every other project I was working on at the time. Fast forward 8 or so months and you can find me frantically going through old hard drives, opening every single badly named file I can find to try and finally finish off the 10 - 12 projects I was juggling before diving head-on into full-time employment. P.S. I'm currently taking on new projects again, so if you think we should work on something together hit me up! Regardless to say, number one on my agenda was editing this episode; and it's honestly the best choice I made!
The conversation is just as relevant as the day we recorded it, that I kind of expected as the whole point of the podcast is to create evergreen content, what I really didn't expect was to find it such a needed encouragement boost, I honestly can't wait for you to hear it!

Wonderful start to Season 4 sharing this great conversation I had with Angel Laws; Award Winning Community Manager for TrustedHousesitters.
For the past year, my partner and I have been travelling the UK; virtually rent free, whilst looking after the most adorable pets. We do this using TrustedHousesitters and have been having an absolute blast, so it obviously seemed like a perfect chance to catch up with them on the podcast.
I chat to Angela about the brands expansion and ethos, how she got started with them, why pet sitting is so wonderful and what people can expect from the service.
I really hope you enjoy the conversation and hopefully some of you can find a new and exiting way to travel whilst helping lovely pets around the world! If you have any questions what so ever, feel free to send me an email, comment or DM.

We've hit Episode 30 and to celebrate I had the massive privilege of chatting to Nigel House, Co-Owner of Rough Trade!
Rough Trade is a legendary group of independent record shops with headquarters in London. At various times there were also shops in San Francisco, Tokyo and Paris. In 2007 Rough Trade opened a gorgeous shop/cafe in Brick Lane called "Rough Trade East", located in the former Truman's Brewery. I really love these guys, when I first moved into London I would head in religiously and spend money I should really have saved more paying rent.
Over the years they have put on incredible events & gigs, helped build a thriving music culture and always stayed ahead of the game. I was incredibly excited to chat with Nigel and I learnt so much from the conversation! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

It was an absolute privilege to chat with Author, Public Speaker & Multi Award Winning Campaigner; Hope Virgo, for Episode 29 of the podcast! Hope suffered with anorexia for over 4 years, before being admitted to a Mental Health Hospital in 2007. She lived in the hospital for a year, fighting one of the hardest battles of her life. She is now at the stage of 'ongoing recovery' and wants to use her experiences of mental health illness to champion the rights of others, inspire them to get well, and help break the stigma of mental illness.
Hope is also the Author of 'Stand Tall Little Girl' and the person behind the 'Dump The Scales' campaign. A petition calling on the government to enforce guidance for eating disorder treatment. It is looking to ensure that nobody is turned away from treatment for eating disorders purely because of their weight.
On the Episode we talk about Hope's journey, the things that helped her through recovery, the budget cuts being faced by the NHS, how schools can best help children with eating disorders, how friends and family can be of greater support and lots more.
I learnt so much from Hope and really think this conversation could help a lot of people, so please, please give it a share, send me your thoughts and let me know if you have any more questions!

Not sure if you've heard, but apparently Donald Trump's Italian interpreter was pulling funny faces at everything he said. In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised. However according to Dr. Jonathan Downie; my guest for episode 26, those are just the kind of faces you can expect an interpreter to pull when they're concentrating.
Dr. Jonathan Downie is a consultant interpreter, French to English and English to French conference and business interpreter, researcher, and speaker on interpreting; as well as founder of Integrity Languages. Incredibly happy to have Benita Matofska as my guest for Episode 18.
Benita is a world-leading speaker and change-maker, as well as a global Sharing Economy expert and author of the wonderful book 'Generation Share'; the world's first collection of inspiring stories from change-makers building the Sharing Economy. She is also the founder of The People Who Share (TPWS), a charity and social enterprise that helps people discover the power of the Sharing Economy to change the world. I'm guessing you can tell why I was looking forward to this chat!
After half a year traveling the U.K. with the help of sharing economy gems TrustedHousesitters (who also happen to have sponsor Generation Share), I was more than ready to learn more about a subject I've been dipping my toes into for a quite while now. We talk about what the term Sharing Economy actually encompasses, we debunk some common myths, we talk about the benefits to the individual & to society at large ... basically it's a wonderful conversation and I hope you love it as much as I did!

On Episode 17 I chat to the wonderful Gabe Cruz from Braille Skateboarding!
Gabe is a skateboarder and filmmaker. He is also Video Production Supervisor for the Braille Skateboarding YouTube Channel and he runs the Braille Army Channel! If you've never watched any of the Braille Skateboarding videos, then you are definitely missing out! Braille was founded by skateboarder Aaron Kyro, they help people learn how to skate, they ride the weirdest skateboard contraptions and they have the best possible attitude which I really admire.
I've been following their progress for the last couple of years and have always been astounded at the amount of content they produce, the atmosphere they generate and the individual personalities that they surround themselves with (as well as the skating .. obviously!). I had a lot to talk to Gabe about, we cover everything from behind the scene work that goes into creating content, his journey into Braille Skateboarding, their overall ethos and a whole load more.
I really hope you enjoy the episode and if you have any feedback I would love to hear from you!

On Episode 15 I chat to my good friend Richard Heaven about his time out at sea with the Merchant Navy!
I knew extremely little about the Merchant Navy before going into this conversation and had a hell of a lot of preconceptions about it too. Richard is someone I have know for a long time within the punk scene, he is extremely knowledgable about music (amongst lots of other things), as well as being a great writer & artist, so I was really excited to see what his experience has been whilst carrying out his Officer Cadetship in Nautical Science.
We talk about they myths associated with working out at sea, about gender quality within the Merchant Navy, about loneliness out at sea and about a whole lot of other things I knew absolutely zero about before this chat. I hope you enjoy it and learn as much as I did!

Ricky has been absolutely pivotal to keeping the historical venue of 'The Joiners Arms', as well as the music scene, alive in Southampton, UK for over 8 years. Having also worked on 'Bestival', 'Groezrock Festival', 'Common People' festival, as well putting shows on at Guildhall and being involved in the rise of 'Kerrang!' favourites 'Creeper'; Ricky has the experience and hindsight to give sound advice on how we can help keep the live music scene alive.

I feel absolutely honoured to have Dr. Matt Lodder as my guest for Episode 11. I had been looking forward to this conversation for a while and I am incredibly excited for everyone to hear it.
Dr. Matt Lodder is a Senior Lecturer in Art History and Theory, and Director of American Studies at the University of Essex.
