Rafael Junco has been taking Wing Chun seriously for the past several years. "Bruce Lee, made it famous but Wing Chun has been around for centuries." Rafael's Sifu (Teacher/Father) brought him and his class to China, where they had the opportunity to study even more traditional ways. Simply Ballroom is owned and operated by a husband/wife duo; David and Kristen from St. Louis MO. They recently moved their business and themselves to Duluth in the height of the pandemic. Tiffany is an online at home, do it yourself fitness instructor. I had the opportunity to sit down and speak with her about her fitness journey, her goal to lift fellow women up and to be their best selves. "I want us; as women, to lift each other up and not down." Tiffany started out by teaching herself how to lift weights and to get into shape. "After I had my son, I had a new set of goals." Beth is the owner and innkeeper of the Merryweather Inn, located in Duluth MN. She is also a pilot. At a young age Beth had a love of large homes and history. Then in the mist of the Pandemic she bought and is slowly restoring what is now Merryweather Inn. The home itself was built during the railroad boom era in Duluth's history. Severio Mancieri is an Iowa born; Duluth based singer-songwriter. He started out at a young age on piano but soon graduated onto saxophone, guitar, and vocals. Ernest Howard is a Minneapolis based, musician, comedian, barber, and actor. Ernest got this start by entering the Minneapolis music scene, under Enosense. Later on; he stepped away from music and opened a barber shop. Since he was telling jokes to his clients, they encouraged him to take on open mic nights. Bruce Fummey is a stand up comic and tour guide, located Scotland. Bruce started out as a school teacher; but then jumped ship into comedy. Durning the 2020 pandemic, Bruce's wife encouraged him to create videos using his tour guide business as the back drop. Since then his videos have become very prominent on YouTube. Bryan Gatten is back with a new album and new sound. Bryan wrote and recorded his new album durning quarantine and has released it to the world. Lokish Lavish is a group project by Frank A and Smash, both South African musicians. Both have a love of jazz music and the improvisation it brings. Lokish Lavish try to incorporate that into their funk-beats and lyrics. Both Frank and Smash have come from musical households, with jazz surrounding them at an early age. Sadkin is the brain child of Max; a Minneapolis musician who now resides in Duluth MN. Max started playing piano at a young age and quickly graduated to other instruments: today he is a multi-instrumentalist. After some family loss, Max bought a boat and traveled; durning that time of deep soul searching, Max re-found his love of trance- electronic music. Bodhi Werner is back and his time he's in the depths of his novel North Port 1999. "A fictional reimagine of Duluth Minnesota" as Bodhi calls it, with a huge and horrific twist. Bodhi started writing this story several years ago as short film, but with some encouragement from his mother (Claire Cooley) he developed into a full book. Aurora Baer is back with a second EP; Out Of My Mind. She first started playing music when she was a teen, and hit the Duluth music scene over a decade ago. Since then she has released one EP, and played with countless acts. In this new EP Aurora takes a different approach; speaking about mental health and darker stories. The Duluth Dolls is a burlesque/cabaret group that formed in 2012; in Duluth Minnesota. The idea came from one of its co-owners Mama Sheila; who is a belly dancer. Erin (the other owner) is a classically trained dancer, but found love and freedom through the art of burlesque. Esther has been a Zentangle artist for many years. She first discovered Zentangle when she was doodling on legal documents. In another life, she was a lawyer in the East Coast. Caeser Pink is a New York artist and founder of the Imperial Orgy. A political based alternative rock band. They currently have twelve members and produce multimedia shows. Caeser himself has spent a lifetime in music, playing everything from county-western to punk rock. The band uses political satire in a lot of their work. Murder of Crows is a power duo consisting of Alan Sparhawk from LOW and Gaelynn Lea. Alan reached out to Gaelynn to see about a duet, after seeing her perform; she agreed.... the name came later. Alan Sparhawk still tours and records with LOW. Gaelynn Lea is an international touring solo artist.
Back in 2013 two French film directors crossed the pond to showcase their documentary about Duluth native and international musician, Charlie Parr. This interview was done right after their showcase. The Maxi Childs Trio, came in studio two years ago, and spoke about meeting and forming the trio.
Maxi is the lead singer along with her partner Steve, who makes up the guitar and rhythm parts.
They've been playing the northland for many years and have put out several self made albums.
Rob and Teressa are retired artists. And their art is wearable Steampunk called; LampsnTime. They met on match.com, and they're love to create and going to Renaissance Festivals grew from there. With their work, they create pieces of wearable art from discarded pieces of 'junk' picked apart and they create something truly unique out of it.
