Coda…finito…shut eye…that’s a wrap…that’s all folks. Yeah, it finally happened. Andy’s bailing, and this podcast is kaput. But ends are also beginnings, right? And it’s the journey that counts! Tom and Andy look back fondly on their time together and individually in the FOX News world, with some indicators of what’s to come next for both. Hint: Tom’s got a new radio show right here!
This week’s podcast starts out with a bit of intrigue…what are these guys referring to in their pre-show banter? Black coffee gets a mention, and yeah, more Casablanca references! Is Tom more like Rick or Captain Renault? As a special treat, we hear an extended conversation on music licensing.
Tom and Andy talk travel today. If you listen closely, you might even get some important flying tips! Andy did the Sonoma hotel shuffle this past weekend. He actually thinks that hotels should have electrical outlets in their rooms. Man…some people are never happy. Bonus! Tom gives us the lowdown on his sleep habits.
We’ve told you before that Andy’s not a big fan of caffeine, but Tom? He loves his coffee. Just not decaf! And speaking of a damn fine cup of coffee, Andy’s become a better-late-than-never devotee of Twin Peaks! Tom’s got a book release coming soon, and he’s going to have a comedy show to premiere it. It’s a trip down memory lane for Andy and Tom this week. First, though, they have to remember what day it is now that they don’t have a regular work schedule. Thank goodness for iPhone calendars. They discuss the concern over shopping malls losing customers, noting that it wasn’t that long ago that some people decried malls as being bad for the country! Who remembers Dairy Barns? Spoiler alert! Andy did the big-screen retro movie thing with a pal, taking in Tango and Cash. This podcast will tell you everything that happened in that movie (including Jack Palance’s rodents). And Tom muses about the differences between city life commuting vs. the suburbs – longing for the days cruising in the car with the Carpenters serenading him on the radio.
Just imagine this podcast as a bottle of scotch from Tom to you saying “Sorry” for missing last week. Today we’re talking out loud to ourselves. Have you done it? And we’re talking about late night hosts being accused of stealing jokes, and whether they are entertainers or clones of Jon Stewart with something political to say.
Tom and Andy delve into rock history this week, starting with the Eagles trying to protect their trademark. We hear about “Dad” rock with Van Halen and Meatloaf, as well. What about Colbert’s rantings this week? The guys reminisce about the old analog TV days of antennas and electronic snow. Austin Powers celebrates 20 years – where has the time gone? And speaking of age, they just seem to have a little trouble remembering names of actors and sports stars. Happens to everyone, right?
