Episode 9, here we ARE! This episode was so fun, sorry it has been a hot minute since we released some tea! We're figuring out a few things here on our end! ANYWAY, on this episode of Tea Time we review "Rising Phoenix", a Netflix documentary about the Paralympic Games, and HOLY MOLY it did not disappoint. We dove deep, as always!

We thought it was perfect timing because 1. This documentary was made THIS year, so very very new and 2. The Paralympic Games are coming up this summer starting August 24th, after the 2020 Olympic Games. Woohoo!

We gave our champagne flute rating followed by introducing our virtual pretend guests of choice! Jay brought in Simone Biles and Mel brought in 2 (!!!) guests, Jonathan Van Ness and New York Housewife Aviva Drescher!

Join us! And WATCH RISING PHOENIX ASAP. You're welcome.

Here we are with Episode 8! We were not together like we had originally hoped we would be for this recording, but alas, here we are, we made it happen!

We reviewed the new Netflix documentary "7 Yards", about ex-college football player Chris Norton who sustained a severe spinal cord injury during a game in October of 2010. At just 18 years old, and a freshman at Luther College, his life was forever changed.

We break down what we liked and didn't like about this film. We dove deep into the feelings of hopefulness, optimism, and love; as this story evoked many emotions.

As always we introduced our virtual guests at the end after our champagne flute rating. Jay brought in Eric LeGrand, a former Rutgers football player who sustained a similar injury in THE SAME MONTH OF THE SAME YEAR AS CHRIS. Wild. To say they both defied the 3% is an understatement (when you watch the doc you'll know what that means). Mel introduced Real Housewife of New Jersey Dolores Catania. She is well known for her work with underprivileged children in foster care and hospitals. She reminds Mel of Chris's wife, Emily, who is heavily involved in foster care (more to that story when you watch the doc).

Our conversation was real, full of laughs, full of emotion, and most importantly, full of gratitude.

Welcome to Episode 7 of Tea Time! OK, so trigger warning, on this episode of the pod we reviewed the Netflix documentary "Strip Down, Rise Up". We figured this would be PERFECT for highlighting women's empowerment during Women's History Month, which lasts through March. Essentially we thought this doc was about the athleticism of the women (and few men) that pole dance. The core strength, the leg strength, WOW.

But this was not the case. The feature went deep into the trauma of a group of women in particular that joined a 6 month long pole dancing class, and it was HEAVY to put it lightly. Jay was very uncomfortable, Mel was a little less affected, but nonetheless we were not very impressed.

Listen to see our champagne flute rating and to hear our virtual guests; we had Olympic Gymnast Aly Raisman and Real Housewife of Salt Lake City Whitney Rose!

Despite the more serious subject matter, we STILL HAD A BLAST AND MADE IT FUN (of course)!

Welcome to episode 6 of Tea Time with Mel and Jay!

On this episode we review TIGER, the 2020 HBO documentary about the monumental rise and fall of the greatest golfer that ever lived, Tiger Woods.

This account of Tiger's life is raw, real, salacious, intriguing, and emotional. We both were hesitant to even get into this as something to chat about on Tea Time as it is a bit darker than anything we have reviewed before. It is hard-hitting and we are SO SO SO glad that we took the time to watch (almost 4 hours, it is a long, two-part piece).

We dig through the good, the bad, the ugly , and the triumphs. We laughed. We cried. We have a new love for Tiger Woods. This is a MUST WATCH.

So as usual we give our champagne flute rating followed by our virtual guest of choice. Mel brings back our main man Andy Cohen for some analysis and Jay brings in resident 90's bad boy Dennis Rodman to offer some insight.

Enjoy!

Mel and Jay are back with Episode 5 of Tea Time and they ARE TOGETHER IN PERSON! What a game changer! On today's episode we review the Mark Wahlberg classic The Fighter. We had planned to review The Wrestler because it is LITERALLY number 1 on the Rotten Tomatoes list of best sports movies of all time (we were surprised to be honest). But, then we realized we had 0 desire to watch the film, and have no real interest in wrestling, so we pivoted to another combat sport (boxing) and had a great time watching and chatting.

We definitely spilled some personal tea on this episode, so it is one not to miss!

As always we give our champagne flute rating and introduce two "special guests" that give their take on the film. This episode we channeled retired NHL tough guy Chris "Knuckles" Nilan and Mark Wahlberg himself... where he gives his take as an adamant boxing fan in real life.

Enjoy!

Welcome to Episode 4 of Tea Time! In this episode, Mel and Jay decided to review a documentary, so a little different of a vibe compared to a reality show (Ep. 1 + 2) and a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie (Ep. 3). The girls review The Dawn Wall, a rock climbing documentary about climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson and their journey up the Dawn Wall of El Cap at Yosemite National Park. A fun fact about Mel and Jay, they absolutely are obsessed with climbing (learning, watching, talking about it, not climbing themselves), and fell in love with the sport after watching Free Solo, which chronicles climber Alex Honnold's journey as he solo free climbed (no ropes) El Cap.

The girls run through the doc, give their champagne flute rating (spoiler alert - this was the highest rated production that they have reviewed so far) and give their takes on what they think 2 prominent athletes would have to say about this documentary. Mel channels her inner Alex Honnold and dives into what she think he would say to this. Jay channels her inner Jalen Ramsey, cornerback for the LA Rams. Listen to Ep. 4 to see the reason WHY Jay chose Ramsey to make a special appearance!

This episode was the girl's favorite yet! Don't miss it!

Tea Time with Mel and Jay Episode 3 is here! The girls decided that the third episode would be a perfect opportunity to review a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie! Obviously there absolutely had to be some sports ties, so we found Christmas at the Palace! This movie has a figure skating storyline, with the main character being a 3x World Champion.

Listen as Mel and Jay dive deep into what is wrong with the Hallmark Christmas movie lineup in general and where Christmas at the Palace fell short in our opinions (definitely reflected in our champagne flute rating). At the end we give our thoughts as to what Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon and Real Housewife of NYC Jill Zarin would say about this movie. You don't want to miss this!

In Episode 2, Mel and Jay review the final 5 episodes of The Bradshaw Bunch! They give their champagne flute rating for the WHOLE season. They also give their takes on what they think Andy Cohen and Michael Strahan would say about The Bradshaw Bunch's first season! The girls then bring in Rachel Bradshaw herself to gossip and spill the tea on all things Bradshaw Bunch and more! Rachel dives into details on her dating life, her family, and the just announced Season 2 (!!!) that is coming in 2021! Cheers with the girls during Episode 2 which features an intro and outro of Rachel's newest single "Aphrodite"!
