It's so easy to be busy but much harder to be productive. In my experience, part of the problem is that instead of delegating certain tasks, we take everything on and get very little accomplished. But what if we flipped the script and decided to only focus on tasks that propel us forward in our purpose?
This is NOT a rallying cry to dump out all your laundry on the floor and yell "GET SOMEBODY ELSE TO DO IT!" But it is a call to be more intentional and consider ho sowme of the tasks on your docket ended up on there to begin with.
If you're ready to operate more purposefully tune into today's episode friend.

Welcome back to another week of the Black Girls with Purpose podcast! Today I sit down with Tabitha's Tea Party founder, Ebony King. During our episode we dive into the power of obedience, moving into new cities and the importance of being willing to evolve as God enlarges your territory. If you've been feeling like God is calling you to do more in this season, this episode is for you lovely!
Ebony's formal bio:
Ebony King is the founder and visionary behind Tabitha's TEA Party, a nonprofit that empowers women to GET UP from dead places. They host Bible studies through TEA Parties and annual conferences to help women connect, create, and draw closer to their God-given identity. Tabitha's TEA Party is named after a female disciple in the book of Acts who was known for doing good and helping the poor. Through her story, we learn that she died and was raised from death by prayer. She is an example that God can get you up from anything, and he can help you find life even in the places you thought were dead. Ebony's testimony is a story of a girl who got up, which inspired her most recent book, Black Wings Still Fly. Black Wings Still Fly, for anyone who has ever felt their adversity was too heavy for them to rise.

Welcome back to Season 6 of the Black Girls With Purpose Podcast! On today's episode we're kicking off the season with an explanation of why dreaming new dreams and going through different seasons of life is important. It can be extremely easy to go with the flow and just coast from one thing to the next but we ought to be intentional about pushing the limits in life if we're truly aiming to be a woman of purpose.
Dreaming can feel scary because eventually you have to get up and do the work to fulfill your dreams. Dreams also come with new levels of responsibility. But the work is worth it.
Scripture to remember: "And I am confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

She took home the Kindred Awards for Regional Christian Music award for Best R&B Artist in 2017 and Artist of the Year in 2019.

Yes, we held these really great events and impacted the lives of a lot of women positively, but the aesthetics of it all became very appealing. Thankfully, God got our attention and helped us pay attention to our community's needs.

Inspired by a series of post-work happy hours with her friends and mentor, Christa Clarke launched Cubicles to Cocktails in 2018. Happy hour was the space for her to share and gain advice on navigating corporate life as a Black woman. Conducting her research and speaking to the women of color in her network, she discovered that many women of color faced the same issues that she had previously commiserated over happy hours with friends— feelings of isolation from being the “Only" at work compounded by a lack of development opportunities addressing their unique work needs. However, unlike herself, Christa noted many didn't have access to a mentor or strong network of success-minded career women that look like them.
Christa believes that every woman deserves the network and resources to enable her to excel in her career while flourishing in her life! She has made it her mission to help make this her reality.
Christa is an alumna of Rice University, earning both her B.S. in Bioengineering and M.S. in Bioscience Research and Health Policy. Hailing from Chicagoland, Christa is a proud Houstonian known for her infectious laughter and genuine desire to see women thrive!
When she is not cheering on other women, you can find Christa learning about cocktail culture and volunteering with her husband on the Houston Museum of Natural Science Catalysts Young Professionals’ Steering Committee.

Over the past few weeks we've studied the lives of Abraham, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and David. Each of their stories showed us what it takes to be faithful in today’s society. So far we’ve learned that our faith cannot be dictated by what we see and that true faith is committed, confident and captivating.
In this final episode from our faith series we look at the life of Jesus and how his faith was the ultimate standard in ministry. He exemplifies to us how to overlook distractions and discouragements in order to keep on running this faith race we read about in Hebrews 12:1-2.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Today we’re looking at the life of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and how they teach us how to have faith that is confident, committed and captivating.
When faced with a golden image to worship Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had a choice to make - stand on God's word and their commitment to him even if it meant being tossed in a fiery furnace or blend in with what everyone else was doing and later ask God for forgiveness.
They chose faithfulness and it was rewarded greatly. So how can we apply their lessons to our lives? Click play to see!

We are kicking off a new series on faith where we'll look at the lives of several individuals from the Bible and how they persevered through trials to receive what God predestined for them to receive.
On today's episode we look at the father of faith - Abraham - and what his life teaches us about what it looks like to have faith even when we can't see.
Scripture says "Abram went out [to the promised land] not knowing where he was going." and this is often the case for you and me. God tells us quit that job, move to that new city and we have no idea what we're doing but what we'll discover over the course of the next few weeks is that this place of uncertainty can at times be exactly where God wants us to be. Instead of sight we have to rely on vision and vision is a powerful thing.
If you're ready to walk on water and experience God in new ways be sure to listen to this series!

We’re back with the final episode of our Hope series. For the past two weeks we’ve been studying how to have hope in hopeless situations. During week 1 we looked at the story of a girl restored and a woman healed which taught us that we can keep the faith and maintain our hope even if a situation, relationship, breakthrough appears to be dead if we make a decision to believe what God says. Last week, we looked at the story of Peter and Jesus walking on water and discovered that if we’re going to have hope in hopeless situations we have to trust who God is and this week, we’re going to ta lk about the final piece necessary to endure and keep hope even in the midst of hopeless situations and that’s yielding to God’s process. For this study we’re going to focus on the book of Habakkuk. We’ll look intently at Habakkuk 2:3 but will do a quick overview of the book in its entirety for context. Today we continue our hope series, by discussing the next key to having hope in hopeless situations - trusting who God is. We’ll read about how Peter and Jesus walked on water and how Jesus calmed the winds and waves to illustrate this. Sometimes we need to go through storms just to find out who we're in the boat with. Scripture references:
Luke 5:3-11 Matthew 8:23-27 Matthew 14:22-33 Jeremiah 17:7-8 Hebrews 11:17-19

Hope is a confident trust that what God has promised will come to pass. Maybe you were expecting a promotion at work, perhaps you were hoping to get married or maybe, like my husband and I, you thought 2018 was the year you'd finally be financially free. But, for a reason unknown to you, the year wasn't God's timing. I want you to know that in spite of what you see when God sees fit, your promise is going to come to pass in a way you won't believe. While you wait, I'm here to share some tips that God shared with me on how to maintain hope in the midst of seemingly hopeless situations. Subscribe to the podcast to stay up-to-date on the new episodes every week! Romans 5:3-5 And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Shanece Smith, also known as "The Ultimate Encourager" grew up in a loving household with her grandparents, who both truly believed in love, respect and treating every stranger as a friend. With their guidance, Shanece became one to light up a room with her old spirit, bubbly personality, warm hugs and her awkward laugh.
After the unfortunate passing of her grandmother, "The Ultimate Encourager" had a new battle to overcome, grief.
Although she fought as long as she could to keep a smile on the outside the grief soon revealed itself and Shanece had to fight to overcome all of her challenges. Enduring trying times in life: depression, failing grades, broken relationships and many other tribulations, Shanece finally realized she couldn't encourage others until she first encouraged herself.
In her new book, Shanece shares her journey with others on how she was able to regain her power and reclaim her title as "The Ultimate Encourager."

We are back with week 4 of our Pain and Purpose series, if you haven’t already, please go back and check out episodes 1 through 3.
As a quick recap of the past few weeks we’ve been talking about what it looks like to be pregnant with promise. In the first week we talked about how some of us struggle to believe what God said but how you can’t allow your faith in the promise to be dictated by what you see. We tied this into the story of Mary and her response when the angel Gabriel told her the Holy Spirit would come upon her and she would conceive.
During week two we talked about the complications that come when promises of God are birthed prematurely and how we can work against those problems if we pray that God will increase our faith and we learn to completely surrender our due date.
This is the area that has always been the toughest for me and you know that if you listened to my confession episode last week. In week 3 of the series we talked about how many times are promises are accompanied by pain but that pain is not always a punishment and sometimes the pain we are experiencing in life is designed to spark preparation.
Today's episode talks about the pain we bring upon ourselves through our own foolishness.
Be prepared to grasp your pearls. It's gets real today sis!

We're back with the fourth and final episode of our Identity series!
Today we're going to learn what it means to be royalty. Spoiler alert: There are several sacrifices you'll have to make, but our prayer is that by letting you know what they are on the front end, we'll be able to silence the lie that God made some sort of mistake!

We all have a unique role on this Earth. There is something special that God wants us to do. But, if you're going to be used to your fullest potential you have to understand "It's not about you."
On today's episode we look at the life of Mary and how she changed history by surrendering her plans for God's plans and responding willingly to her calling.
If you feel like you're in a season where God is calling you to do something you don't understand or something you feel is bigger than you, then please tune into this episode. We pray it encourages you!

We are back with the second episode of our Identity series.
Last week we set the foundation by stating that if we want to know who we are, we must first discover who God is and only AFTER that will He reveal our purpose. I hinted at the fact that our identity precedes activity which is what our lesson is about today. If you've ever tried to find worth in your relationships, your performance at work or your notoriety, this episode is for you.
Here's to becoming more grounded in God so we can do what He predestined us to do.
Verse of the week: Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began. Psalm 139:16

We're kicking off a NEW podcast series on one of my favorite topics - identity!
Many of us spend so much time wandering around concerning ourselves with what we are supposed to do instead of finding out who we were created to be. This pursuit leads to unanswered questions, depression and a lack of purposeful living. Over the next few weeks we're breaking down the major points you must understand if you want to know what your purpose is.
Spoiler alert: God HAS to be the foundation.

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve done a deep dive study on the life of Esther a young Jewish woman, who, through divine interactions becomes queen.
In the first week we discussed the power behind her being positioned for a purpose and we learned three things.
Last week on the podcast we expanded on the importance of Esther’s positioning and saw that when we are elevated in any area of life it’s because there is a specific work we have been predestined to do. In Esther's case, she was elevated on assignment to be able stand up for the Jews.
Today we see the most important parts of Esther’s life unfold because in the passages we read her purpose is complete. Let’s pick up in her story to see how the lessons from her life apply to me and you!

Leveled up recently? Good for you! But guess what sis? That means there is work to do!
On today's episode of the Esther Series we continue reading through the life of Esther and we see how her being positioned in the palace came with a level of responsibility. So many times when we level up or glow up we think "It's all about me!" But when we are in the body of Christ, we have to understand there is a greater purpose God is trying to accomplish through our lives in His perfect timing.

Over the past several weeks we've discussed the importance of getting rest, trusting God and being good stewards of our bodies. While, in theory, we all may know sabbath and self-care are great, without determining on the front end why you want to prioritize these areas, we are likely to go astray.
On today's episode we wrap up this podcast series by discussing what our why is - specifically focusing on three self-care areas - sleep, diet, and our appearance.

People are dying and the cause is not disease. The issue we have today is constant comparing. Armed with envy and social media feeds, we are lusting after the lives other people have instead of thriving in the places God predestined us to be. This is not only wrecking homes and workplaces, it's causing us to have issues with our identity.
But what if we could reverse it? What if we could lower suicide rates, job turnover and divorce rates by simply learning to be content with what God says we need. We'll talk about this and more in our Bible Study for this week.

Over the past few weeks we've been studying what it means to be salt and light in our homes, neighborhoods and greater communities. In week 1 we discussed the significance of salt and its properties, exploring how its purification process mirrors what God does to us to produce purities. In week 2 we discussed the requirements of being light in a dark society including walking away from dark paths, repenting of old ways and sharing our testimony. Last week we discussed how we are called to use our gifts within the body of Christ so we can help those in need.
In the final lesson for this series we study the life of John the Baptist, Mary and Jesus and how each of them show us the ultimate purpose of shining our lights is not so we can be stars but so that we can bring fame to our King!
If you're looking for/in need of a final BOOST to shine your light and fully walk into who God has called you to be, tune into today's episode.

Many Christians speak fondly of the moment when they accepted Christ as their Savior and the days that followed after it. It seems like many of us who became sold out for Christ later in life were eager to hit the streets telling everyone about Him. In these moments our lights are burning bright, a visible representation of the fire and passion we've developed for the Lord as a result of the sacrifice He's given.
But at some point our shining beacons start to dim. Despite being called cities on a hill, situations come that spark in us a desire to be hidden.
Suddenly, content with our own salvation in God, we stop trying to bring about someone else's. In some instances, bound by guilt and shame we even begin to doubt our own salvation or, the most tragic of all, burdened by the problems of this world we turn away from God completely and become children of darkness. If we know this is possible, how do we prevent it? How do we stay "lit" for Christ?
Tune in to this week's episode to get an answer to that question!
Our life is not just about us. We are here to light up the world. We are here on assignment.

But with that freedom came a new search for identity. As she recovered, Cherise began to use writing as therapy. Quickly realizing she was not alone in her plight other women shared her story. Hope is confident trust that what God has promised will come to pass. When last year came to an end, God placed on my heart that many people were feeling hopeless when it came to things they thought they'd see come to pass in 2018. Maybe you were expecting a promotion at work, perhaps you were hoping to get married or maybe, like my husband and I, you thought 2018 was the year you'd finally be financially free. But, for a reason unknown to you, 2018 wasn't God's timing. I want you to know that in spite of what you see, when God sees fit, your promise is going to come to pass in a way you won't believe.

In today's episode I share my testimony and how the truth of the word of God, kept me from committing suicide as a teen. I was susceptible to this type of thinking because I was believing the lies of the enemy. I was blinded to who I was in Christ and that almost destroyed me. One of the enemy’s main purposes on this Earth is to keep you blinded. Blinded to the goodness of God. Blinded to your true identity and the only way you can fight against him is by putting on the full armor of God which we’ll study in depth next week. The anchoring piece of the armor is the belt of truth which comes from abiding in God’s word daily so that, in moments when you find yourself battling with your identity, battling with temptation, battling with doubt or low self-esteem, you will have an exact word to send the devil back to the pits of hell from whence he came and you can do it all in Jesus’ name. If you're ready to break free from spiritual bondage, tune into the episode for this week. The Parable of the Sower: Matthew 13 Meditate on What's Lovely: Philippians 4:8 The Devil - the Father of Lies, Your True Enemy: John 8:44, John 10:8-10 You are a child of God: John 1:12, Romans 8:17 John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whoever believed in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." The Real War: Ephesians 6:12 - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. In today's episode we're discussing the counterfeit sources people seek for wisdom when they need direction for their day to day living.
Last week, we talked about why it’s dangerous to seek wisdom outside of the wisdom that God brings. These various counterfeit sources offer us with alternatives to going to God directly. When we do this, we are participating in what the Bible calls idolatry.
Idolatry is simply defined as extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone. It sounds relatively harmless unless you know Exodus 20:3 in which God says “you shall have no other gods before me.”
God wants to be the sole recipient of our worship. The ultimate source for everything we need. But, especially in recent times, we’re turning to Him, not exclusively but in addition to other things. This is not a new occurrence and every time it happens the Lord raises up leaders and prophets to reveal the real versus the counterfeit so the people of God can make an informed decision on who will receive their allegiance. That’s what I believe my task for today’s episode is.
Focus scripture: 1 Kings 18:16-40
Prohibition of serving false gods: Deuteronomy 7
Deuteronomy 18:9-12 - “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.
Consulting the Dead: If any of you go for advice to people who consult the spirits of the dead, I will turn against you and will no longer consider you one of my people. Leviticus 20:6
Fortune Telling: Do not go to mediums or fortune-tellers for advice. If you do, you will become unclean. I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:31
Additional scriptural references: The result of sin’s control in our lives is clear. It includes sexual immorality, impurity and wild living, 20 worshiping false gods, doing witchcraft, hating, making trouble, being jealous, being angry, being selfish, making people angry with each other, causing divisions among people, 21 having envy, being drunk, having wild and wasteful parties, and doing other things like this. I warn you now as I warned you before: Those who do these things will not be in God’s kingdom. Galatians 5:19-21
The enemy disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14
Do not believe every spirit but test every spirit to see if it is from God. 1 John 4:1
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Romans 1:25
What does the Bible say about astrology? https://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/astrology-mentioned-bible
Proof we're fighting against the enemy: 2 Thessalonians 2:9 - The Man of Evil will come by the power of Satan. He will have great power, and he will do many different false miracles, signs, and wonders.

"There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death." Proverbs 14:12
In the age of Google, our desire for wisdom is constantly growing but rarely satisfied and this made me think of the story of The Fall found in Genesis 3.
Eve too desired wisdom, but because she sought it outside of God, it changed the lives of all of humanity.
In today's episode we're discussing three keys found in Genesis 3 and why it's so important to know the word of God for yourself to avoid being deceived.
Scripture references: The Fall: Genesis 3:1-8 Wisdom: James 1:5-7 How to Deal with Trials: James 1:2-4 What God's Word Says About Fortune Telling, Horoscopes, Psychics: Deuteronomy 4:19, Deuteronomy 5:17, Deuteronomy 18:9-14 Trustworthiness of God's Word: Psalm 19:8, Proverbs 15:16 You Are God's Masterpiece: Psalm 139:13-14 Flee Temptation: 2 Timothy 2:22-24 Sexual Immorality: Ephesians 5:3, Colossians 3:5 True vs. False Wisdom: James 3:13-18

On today's episode I'm sharing my testimony and how one encounter with God can change everything. I went from being a suicidal teen to running a women's ministry. And it's not because I'm so special, it's because of the courage God placed inside of me to take major faith leaps.
My first leap started back in 2009 when I headed to Missouri. But the leap that changed my life forever was my choice to join a church back in 2013, in a city where I had no friends or family, a city from where I thought I'd soon be moving. Join this church became join this ministry became write this book, serve with this camp, go to this retreat. Trust people, share your vision, marry this man, start this org, change churches, start a family, write a book, publish professionally. Run a Kickstarter campaign. Go to this place, do this conference, start a business, have these events, pray, fast, trust me, be still, rest, launch this podcast, move your family.
So how does this tie into Friendsgiving?
You may have seen my posts on IG. And something about them is radiating, I want to let you know that it's not because of me. God may just have moved heaven and Earth to meet with you on a Thursday evening. And by listening to the call it could change everything.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16
