“Not About Us”
Scott and Brad started out has two friends meeting weekly to share stories of how God had moved in their lives and to study the Bible. They were chasing after a relationship with God and were often overwhelmed and excited by the new insights they discovered. This time became very special to them and they had the desire to share their excitement with others. “Not About Us” podcast was born from that desire. God is love, and love needs to share, so they hope to share love with you. The hope is that others will be inspired to chase after their own relationship with God and share the love they find as well.

Genesis 4:3-9

Genesis 4:1-2 “Not About Us” continues this Bible study of Genesis, moving into chapter 4. The study starts with a recap of chapters 1-3 and a discussion on how they felt like the setup of the human story. Brad suggests that it is easier as a modern time person to read and experience the events going forward in Genesis, as we can relate to the issues being presented, as the people in chapter 4 are experiencing the world after the fall like us. These verses are primarily the story of Cain and Abel but Scott starts with his thought on why Adam “knew” his wife and gives word studies and Hebrew word pictures for the words “know”, “conceived”, and “bore”. A theory is presented during the discussion of lineage that we do not know for sure if Cain was the first infant and thoughts are given about having a baby this soon after the fall. The study continues with word studies and Hebrew word pictures for the names “Cain” and “Abel” and that continues into a discussion on Cain and his role in everything. The study concludes with thoughts on what we can learn from Abel and the meaning of his name.
Genesis 3:22-24 This Bible Study podcast starts with a discussion on the knowledge of good and evil and Brad ponders if God’s heavenly body have the knowledge of good and evil. Scott shares why being kicked out of the garden was a mercy of God. The mysteries of God are discussed and then a suggestion is made that if God says something, the statement becomes truth, and must happen which helps to explain why a verse in this study trails off without ending. Scott explains his thoughts on why God placed cherubim to guard the East of the garden and then presents word studies and Hebrew word pictures for the words “east”, “cherubim”, and “sword”.
Genesis 3:20-21 Scotts starts this Bible Study Podcast off with a discussion on how precise Genesis is in the details and explains he has been listening to previous podcasts to see what areas he can make improvements and where he is doing well. They study starts with a comment on the name of Eve and the point that she was named after the fall. A definition of the Trinity is made, and Scott gives Hebrew word pictures for the name of “Eve”. Continuing, God clothed Adam and Eve with the first animal sacrifice and a word study and Hebrew word pictures is given for the words “garments”, “skins”, and “clothed”.
Genesis 3:16-19 “Not About Us” is excited to bring our listeners the next Genesis Bible study. Scott was excited by all the things that jumped out to him as he dug deeper into these verses. There was a lot covered in this one and it started with Eve and her punishment for eating of the fruit. This leads into a deeper conversation about pregnancy and pain. Word studies and Hebrew word pictures are discussed for the words “multiply”, “pain”, and “travail”. Brad gives his thoughts about creating an idol of God in our heads, even to this day. Continuing, Scott shares an awesome Hebrew word picture for the word “pregnancy” that points to Jesus and the new birth but also shows how the pain and death of Jesus was greatly increased after our sin. Next up, Scott gives more word studies and more Hebrew word pictures to dig deeper into the word’s “desire”, “husband”, and “rule”. With all the information from the word studies Scott recounts the same verses giving more information and paints a beautiful and tragic picture of what is going on here. Scott moves on to discuss Adam and his punishment and Scott contemplates what it means when people do not listen to what God actually says. Lastly, Brad wonders if it is harder for Christians to reach others because we see the things of the world as worrisome and most do not.
Genesis 3:11-15 “Not About Us” presents the next installment of this Genesis study podcast Bible adventure. Scott starts off by explaining why it is important when God asks a question and presents a discussion of the three questions God asks in these verses. Evidence is given to suggest examples of different types of people who deceive, those aware of what they are doing and those who believe they are truly doing God’s will. Scott shares a personal story of a person who had been mislead by the advice of someone who gave false information about God but was believed to be credible due to his position. A conversation is had about really understanding God’s word and what information is given from other sources. The study continues with a discussion of what it means that the serpent will be defeated but first the serpent will strike His heel and Scott gives his idea that Satan can only attack God’s peace but never His joy or love. The fact that we do not have perfect peace yet and must work helps to show this point. The study wraps up with a discussion of the punishment given to the serpent and ideas of why God put enmity between man and the Satan. Before closing Brad shares his thoughts on why he self-convicts himself and how he uses that passion in prayer when talking with God.
Genesis 3:6-10 “Not About Us” presents the next on-going Bible adventure Genesis study podcast. Scott shares that this podcast was recorded shortly after he recovered from Covid 19 and he wanted to give honor to God even during that trial. The study starts with a word study and a Hebrew word picture of the word “saw” and that starts a discussion on if this was the first time Eve was seeing the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Next word Scott shares his thoughts on is “delight” and he provides his intriguing Hebrew word pictures. The Tree of knowledge of Good and Evil is discussed, and a connection is made explaining the beauty of the tree. Scott makes a correlation from a previous podcast where Brad had given a word study for tree and Scott shares that the tree is desirable because of the Carpenter (Jesus). He then shares a Hebrew word picture that paints that picture. Brad and Scott investigate what it means to “see” and then moving on to discuss the poor attempt by Adam and Eve to make garments for themselves. Scott investigates the word “presence” which means face and Brad wonders if over his lifetime after the fall Adam started to forget what the face of God looked like. Scott explains how we fear and love God. Tying it all together, Scott discusses how God is calling out to us so we can return to Him.
Genesis 3:1-5 Scott starts this Genesis study by explaining how he feels this podcast study will have lots of ideas, but he will not have too many conclusions. Ideas are shared about the serpent and what was it like to communicate with and reason with the animals in the garden. Brad imagines what that would be like and shares his idea of how fun it could be to be in communion with the animals. Scott gives evidence that the serpent was designed by God and because of that the serpent was perfect and good in God’s creation. Only after the temptation and fall did the serpent become evil in our minds. Continuing, Scott shares more ideas as to why Satan used the serpent and presents information that it might have been as a mockery of the Holy Spirit. Brad shares a quick shout out for a recent documentary he watched called “The Riot and the Dance” that shows all of God’s creatures in a positive light. Scott moves on to a word study of the word “serpent”. The next point Scott shares is that Adam was with Eve as she talked with the serpent and Scott wonders why Eve added to God’s word answering the serpent that they could not touch the fruit. Next, Scott ponders what it means when it says we will not die after eating the fruit. This one concludes with a conversation on Satan and how he is a master tactician but still loses to Jesus in the end.
Genesis 2:23-25 Scott starts this Genesis Bible study podcast sharing that he is looking forward to this one because he kept finding more cool stuff as he continued to study these verses. The first topic discussed is the different Hebrew words for “man” and what they might mean when they are used. Scott follows with his Hebrew word pictures for “man” and “woman” and shows how God is reflected in both sexes. God presenting woman to Adam is discussed and followed with word studies on the word’s “bone” and “flesh”. The role of Eve as a protector and a physical representation of the Holly Spirit is considered. Scott shares that before the fall of creation everything was good including the serpent and the serpent’s purpose during this time is discussed. A conversation on Satan and why he used the serpent is followed by a light-hearted conversation about God and Adam during the naming of the animals. The Father creating and the son being a part of the process by naming the animals. The conversation about Eve picks up again and Scott goes deeper with word studies of the word’s “sleep” and “rib”. These leads to the opinion that death should not be feared and Brad shares about dreams and the spiritual realms. Scott starts out by explaining how Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden to dress it and keep it while giving us a word study focusing on the words “dress” and “keep”. Glory is given to God when a realization is made that He did all the hard work of creating and left the fun stuff of decorating the creation to us. This leads to a discussion of our purpose before the fall. Scott shares more Hebrew word pictures to paint the picture of Adam watching over and guarding the Garden and that leads to a comparison of guarding the salvation in our hearts. Genesis 2:5-8 “Not About Us” continues this Genesis Bible study adventure with this 8th podcast. Scott shares how this study is one he started a few years back and had to start over for the podcast recently, but when he did, he was excited by all the new and fresh information that came to him. The study starts with a discussion on seed and the plants and if everything was already in place when God commanded it to come forth. Scott shares the Hebrew origins for the word rain and gives us a possible word picture. The conversation continues into a discussion of how Satan twist all that God makes good. Back to rain, Scott challenges the idea of when it first rained upon the earth. The word mist is investigated, and Scott’s makes a connection about man and how we are meant to pour God’s spirit on the Earth, and we are designed to be the path to God. More detail is given about the creation of man from the dust of the earth. The breath of life is discussed, and Scott breaks down the word breathe and the word breath. Scott finishes this study discussing the Garden of Eden and the importance of its placement East of man’s creation and dig’s deeper into the words Eden, planted and garden.
Genesis 2:2-4 Scott starts this “Not About Us” Bible journey through the book of Genesis with a recap of the end of chapter one. Discussed is the freshness and newness of this Bible study and the importance of God finishing His work. The Sabbath is discussed and how it is the only day of the week the Hebrews had a name for. Everything is created and working for the first time and Brad and Scott imagine what that would have been like to see at the beginning. Scott shares his thoughts on the Hebrew word pictures for finished and rested. Continuing into chapter two Scott looks at the word hallowed and how being unclean and sinning may not mean the same thing.
