When the word ‘prosperity’ is used, we often think about monetary success or abundance. What comes to your mind when “Relationship Prosperity” is mentioned? If we don’t have relationship prosperity, what do we have? Relationship problems! Problems arise when needs are not met. Because of past hurts, we often enter relationships subconsciously looking for healing (listen to episode 98 where I address understanding emotional baggage in relationships). Ultimately, we want love. Love that offers affirmation, acceptance, appreciation, patience and compassion, which is my perspective of relationship prosperity. If you associated money with relationship prosperity, please know, wealth is not enough to sustain relationships. The wealthy get divorced or separated every day. I truly believe, Former President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalynn Carter completed 77 years of marriage because of relationship prosperity. In this episode, I offer 5 strategies for developing Relationship Prosperity, which can be used in personal and professional relationships.

Life always provides a framework or assigns a guide to help us be our best. Whitney Houston’s infamous song, “Greatest Love of All,” offers a framework for developing strong relationships with children. She sang:

I believe the children are our future Teach them well and let them lead the way Show them all the beauty they possess inside Give them a sense of pride to make it easier Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

In childhood, kids are expected to have some basic needs met. Some of those needs include: food/water, shelter, clothing, protection, love. When needs are unmet, it opens the door to toxic relationships. Meeting basic needs helps with developing secure attachments with children. Home is the first classroom where a child learns. They observe how their parents/caregivers speak, behave, discipline, love, etc. Essentially, they have a front row seat to how the adults in their life execute parenthood. The combination of childhood and parenthood, impacts the journey to building relationships in adulthood. This episode offers strategies for developing healthy relationships with children. Since children are our future, we must get the task of loving them correct. Children are constantly observing adults: parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, authority figures. Just like Whitney sang, we must teach them well and let them lead the way.

Confidence is one of the best accessories you can wear. I often say, confidence has been my saving grace as a human being. One of my favorite quotes is by James Clear:

"Lack of confidence kills more dreams than lack of ability."

Confidence is a feeling, belief, mindset and characteristic. Confidence is your belief in yourself, your abilities or in someone else. It can be how we show up in rooms, conversations and relationships. When confidence is missing, we may experience:

-Self-doubt

-Imposter syndrome

-Fear of trying something new

-Difficulty accepting compliments

-Insecurity

Confident people can also disconnect from their confidence. Here’s the amazing part…confidence can be learned and restored! In this episode, I share 5 ways to build and restore confidence.

During the pandemic, I developed a fascination for words that start with the “R” alphabet. I discovered many words that lead to healing and growth start with “R”. I thought to myself, “Holy moly Batman, we’re on to something!” In this quick and powerful podcast, I share some of the words from my curated list of over 60 “R” words. Below is a glimpse of my list:

  • Renewal
  • Restore
  • Release

Habits are consistent actions or behaviors. Take a second and think about some of your habits. What are some actions you do every day?  For me, some of my habits include bathing, grooming, practicing gratitude. If I did not engage in a habit like “bathing” daily, there would be a consequence. As human beings, we naturally long for connection.  Connections that lead to friendships and romantic bonds require work. That work starts with communication, curiosity and compassion. When either one of those elements leave a friendship, it can be the beginning of that bond falling apart. Disconnecting from a friend can feel like a break-up. I think of friendships as safe spaces where people are free to express emotions without judgement. Losing that safe space can be painful. However, that empty space opens the opportunity to gain new connections. This podcast covers the heartbreak and lessons of losing friendships.

Have you ever heard the statement “Love doesn’t hurt?” I used to say it all the time. Now, I think about that statement in a different way. There are times when it becomes necessary to move on from people, places or experiences we love, to something new. It can feel extremely difficult because of the investment in time and energy. Memories were created! Disconnecting from meaningful relationships can trigger feelings of grief and loss. People do not have to die for us to grieve. Grieving does not feel good! In fact, it hurts. Taking that hurtful action (moving on) can be the most loving and liberating act of kindness towards ourselves and others. Yes, operating in the name of love can ignite feelings like sadness, emptiness and confusion. However, the power lies within us to make a healthy decision. This podcast covers strategies for moving on to something new. May this episode offer a higher perspective on letting go of what does not add to our happiness.

As I started the process of putting this podcast together, I wrote down “Episode 85” at the top of my paper. My brain immediately recalled a game from childhood titled “Hands up to 85.” This hand clapping game allowed me to be in community with other children. This took my original podcast idea for this episode in a different direction. My initial thought was to develop "Top Lessons Learned in 2022." I leaned in to where my feelings were guiding me. I often share that “The Wizard of Oz” is one of my favorite movies because of all the layered messaging in the film. One of the scenes that stand out for me is when Glinda tells Dorothy, “You’ve always had the power to go back to Kansas.” That line reminds me of how self-doubt and fear can stop us from reaching our destinations. As I started singing the lyrics from that childhood game “Hands up to 85,” I heard something different as an adult. I heard words that prepared me for this very moment. It gave me all the tips I needed to create this podcast. This episode offers five tips for creating an AMAZING 2023.

It is not uncommon to hear the phrase “Falling in love.” What if we got used to saying, “Walking in love?” I certainly prefer to walk in love along side my partner instead of fall. Words have power! Paying attention to the language we use is a great healthy habit that helps with spotting red flags in relationships. Meeting someone new can spark so much excitement. It instantly feeds our need for what I call the "Triple A" (attention, acceptance, approval). When we are happy and excited, we can develop blind spots that limit our view of red flags inside of relationships. I believe red flags are notifications telling us to be aware and prepare to protect ourselves with great decisions. In this podcast, I offer 5 tips for spotting red flags in relationships.
