“Challenging young women to raise the standard on the culture by living out the word of God in every area of life.”
Despite being spiritually engaged and serving as a pastor’s wife, I struggled with my appearance until I invited God into my problem. I identify three major influences that shaped my negative self-view: older women's comments, pervasive media messages, and my own deep-seated insecurities.
Guiding you through scriptural insights and practical steps, I encourage you to take a stand against these voices and embrace the truth of your God-given beauty. I emphasize the importance of spiritual strength, prayer, and applying biblical truths to combat insecurities.
This empowering episode aims to inspire you to live confidently and biblically, embracing a counter-cultural style rooted in faith.

Who comes to mind when you hear the word Supernatural?
OR Rather someone who operates in the supernatural. A Christian Sunday school answer would be Jesus, Elijah, or perhaps Moses. All good answers.
Many of the things they are known for were supernatural. but I would say the real supernatural part of their calling wasn’t so much the miracles they did but what was going on in them and through them..
Today I want to touch on an evident characteristic found in someone who is called. and that is that they operate in the supernatural. Sounds all cray. But don’t get hung up on the word. Go with me on this as I think you will find it’s been bubbling up in you and you didn’t even know it.

Some of us have PTSD from family holiday gatherings. We hope that everyone will come together in love and unity, that is not always the case. We are all sinners. Each family member comes with expectations, attitudes, points of view, history and, in some cases, trauma.

Imagine being raised in a Christian family from kids church to youth group but now you find yourself sitting in a large auditorium, freshman year, and at the front of the room a professor, who as far as you are concerned is the smartest guy you know. He opens his lecture with the statement "there is no such thing as God". And for the first time in your life doubt enters your mind and you begin to question "does God really exist?". Or are my parents just full of crap and I’ve been ignorant enough to believe it? That, friend, is the question we are wrestling with on this episode of Strength Dignity Life.

Jaymee’s zeal shows that it is never too late for change and for God to do a work in our hearts. Jaymee shares how God lead her out of a life committed to drugs and alcohol, to a life of hope and freedom in Christ.
In Part 2 of this episode, Jaymee tells us when she was shown the gentleness and the love of Christ by the people closest to her. As her friends personally evangelized, God was seeking her out. And as she looks back today, she can recognize and see the story that God was weaving and is still weaving today. Jaymee’s life was flipped, her priorities changed, her orientation flipped. She now does everything for the glory of God and is the founder of a non-profit called, Project Do Over, a vocational rehabilitation ministry helping people at all stages of life to succeed in the workforce.

Jaymee is a wife, mother, founder of the non-profit Project Do Over, and CEO of her own aerospace company. Jaymee does it all. Today, she tells us the story of what matters most, how she came to know Christ. Listen for the ways God was present throughout her whole story.
After starting her own business, Jaymee returned to school and is now studying engineering. She has seen and acknowledged the ways in which God has cared for her over the years and leads us to notice them too. Through food service jobs, accounting, and even losing jobs, God taught her the value of a good work ethic. And even through the periods when she did not know Christ, God pursued her. He gave her people to faithfully show her the gospel in word, action, and even song! Jaymee learned that she had a new family and a new life in Jesus.
This is the story of how a self-sufficient independent woman learned to be dependent on her maker.

No matter which direction we are lead we can be confident that we are being prepared for the future. Brittany Garcia is a beautiful example of this. She leads us through the twists and turns of her story as God shaped her heart and prepared her for what was coming.
Brittany started out as a teenager, involved in Ozzie and Apryl’s youth group, who had no desire to travel. Despite her own plans, Brittany was led to Haiti with IV Hope for Haiti, Thailand with Hannah House Ministries, and to Asia a second time with YWAM. God used each of these experiences to mold her heart toward ministry and youth.
Now, Brittany ministers to youth in Indiana alongside her husband, Gabe. They work together to lead a youth group and point more hearts to Jesus every day. As we reflect, we can see that God has carried each of us through. Proverbs 20:24 says “A man's steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?” We can trust that no matter how much our circumstances and plans change, if we love Jesus and are called according to His purpose, He will do good, in and through our lives (Rom 8:28).

Sometimes God calls us to sit in the mud, somewhere we would not have placed ourselves. Michael Brandon Foss is with us today as we discuss what it means to glorify God with our calling as we seek to minister to others and ultimately, to serve God.
Michael Brandon Foss is a husband, father, musician, and maker of specialty coffee. He tells us about the decisions he has had to make over the years and how he could see God lead him and pursue him through it all. As dreams were cut short, others took root. He digs into how God was faithful to provide and care for him through many transitions and changes. And he talks about what the Christian mindset should be regarding business operation.
Our work, no matter what our job is, has eternal value. And if we keep our priorities straight (doing everything to the honor and glory of God, first) we can serve others well. We care for others because God cares for us. And we can show others joy, mercy, grace, kindness, and compassion because God himself has given these to us. We are valuable because we are valued by God. And we are lovely because God loves us and made us in His own image, we must live as such. Matthew 5:15-16

For many, the road to higher education is not smooth. With guest Vanessa Cruz, we discuss what the journey may look like and how to navigate around the many potholes as we challenge each other to live out the Word of God in every area of life.

God changes our perspectives in the ways we least expect it. We think we have plans and God changes our hearts. This episode, Ozzie and Apryl discuss how God has guided them in His will and for His glory, showing us what it looks like to seek after God’s heart.
As we make decisions, we deal with expectations, passions, and hopes. Ozzie and Apryl give us practical steps to take when trying to process our plans in accordance with God’s will. Practically, how can we follow the Lord with all our lives? How are we supposed to make life decisions with God’s overarching story in mind, knowing that Jesus is Lord of it all?
Ozzie and Apryl talk about being okay with where the Lord directs you. The journey of proper surrender is not always a linear one, but God surprises us with what He has in store. We can trust that He is using our weaknesses and passions for His glory as He works everything out for our ultimate good. God’s will is not hidden. We must pray, read, surrender, and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6) as we trust that His plans are greater than our own.
“Visit many good books, but live in the Bible” -Charles Spurgeon. In this episode, our host Apryl Ortiz, along with Sean Arviso, author of “Fact or Fiction,” parse out what it means to study the bible, why it is so important, and how to do it properly.
Sean Arviso is a Pastor at Calvary Chapel El Centro and is the author of “Fact or Fiction,” “In His Presence: Challenge Through the Book of Genesis,” and “In His Presence: Epistle of James.” Sean’s personal story is a testament to God’s love for the lost and demonstration of His power in saving those that are far off. Sean has a passion for Apologetics which is how we understand the defense of Christianity from an evidential perspective.
During this hour, Sean tells of the best way to study the bible ourselves. Sean uses the method of inductive bible study as he sorts through the observations, interpretations, and applications of a particular passage. He answers questions such as: Is Jesus really on every page of the Bible? Why is it important to understand the book of Genesis today? How are we supposed to approach scripture considering the vastness of it? And how then do we apply it to our own lives?

“There is no one on this planet that has arrived.” Karrie Scott Garcia is with us today as we dig into what it means to live an abundant life. We all struggle with our humanity but through it all we have a God who walks alongside us.
We can all rest in the fact that no one truly has it all together. Karrie Garcia is the Founder and Executive Director of Freedom Movement, a ministry that seeks to bring hope to men and women by offering tools to help them walk in freedom. She has put together “The Exchange,” a nine-week video course with reflection questions to guide people through the process of exchanging believed lies for God’s freedom.
As Karrie puts it, an abundant life is a full life. It is not a life without grief, sorrow, and pain. But rather it is both hurt and hope simultaneously. As we grow, we struggle with questions like: How do I know what I am supposed to do? Where is the root of this issue? What is keeping me from living for Jesus? When we wrestle with these questions and our humanity, we are not bypassing pain but engaging it with the power of the Holy Spirit. Through the wrestling we come to know God’s heart and will.

Podcast by Karrie Garcia and Shara Haus: The Honest Pod
What Satan means for evil, God intends for good. In part two of this episode, Colleen Myers shares her past from a place of healing and remembrance. Listen today, to how God used her brokenness, weakness, and inability for His glory.
Colleen was not able to find healing until her childhood abuse was brought to light. It was in this openness that she was able to confront and deal with her suffering. God used this difficult season to give her compassion and love for people later. Satan meant her past for evil, but God had a plan.
Colleen, along with her team at PLUR Life Ministries, has been ministering at raves to young men and women since 2009. After ministering at a rave in early March of 2020, Colleen tested positive for Covid-19. Her suffering lead to opened doors, a broadened audience, and a public acknowledgement of her God who was faithful through it all.
Joseph in Genesis 50 went from being a prisoner to a prince and his past was used for good. God shapes our hearts through our circumstances even when we do not understand them. He uses broken and unqualified people in the process. God, in His kindness, uses the weak. Colleen encourages us to seek discipleship, acknowledge that God is good, and share the story of what God has done in your life to reach others. Let’s remember today what God has done for each of us.

Smack Dab: Living Life in the Center of God’s Will by Colleen Myers
From Wounded to Warrior by Lisa Barrett
Colleen Myers talks with us about how her views changed, and her priorities were reoriented when it came to her heart for the broken. After acknowledging the sin and abuse in her own life, she was able to see broken people as they truly were, in need of God’s grace.
Colleen Myers shares the series of events that lead to her journey with healing and her call to begin a non-profit ministry. She, along with her husband, founded PLUR Life Ministries, a ministry focused on reaching out to the broken, the lost and the hurting. They are known as “rave moms and dads,” sharing truth with people in some of their most broken states. Colleen is an Addictions Treatment Counselor and a chaplain with a heart for God’s grace and mercy. But, to get to the point of being a Titus 2-woman, Colleen’s heart and will had to change.
Colleen grew up in an abusive home where it became easy to default to judgment. Comparison became easier than confronting her own need. Now, she calls herself a “recovering judgmental Church Lady” because growth and healing is a continuous process. Through PLUR Ministries, Colleen and her team across the US share what true peace, love, unity, and respect are, and where they can be found in Jesus.

In part two of this episode, Apryl Ortiz and Avion Blackman share how God lead them to their future husbands. Along with a list of standards, God gave them a contentment and resolve to glorify Him above all. Listen today as they share their stories and other nuggets of wisdom.
Avion asked for renewal and knew she wanted a man as committed to God as her father was. She would not be unequally yoked. She would not settle for anything less than a man of God in action, word, and deed. Apryl too shares her similar story of how she met her husband. God’s ways are not our ways, but He is faithful, nonetheless.
Make sure to check out Christafari’s new album: Fly, out on Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube. Composed of songs written by her family, Avion shares her heart in the production of the album made to bless people with hope. Avion Blackman is a musicianary with the band Christafari. Being a victim of abuse throughout her childhood and young adult years, Avion tells us about her first experiences with grace and how that transformed the way she views God.
Avion is a Trinidadian reggae recording artist and grew up with music all around her. Her dad was the famous singer, Ras Shorty "I" responsible for pioneering the style of Soca Calypso. When her dad committed his life to Christ and started living for the Lord, Avion recognized the change in him. A lot changed in her family life from then on, but Avion still had to struggle through her own battles. She tells the unfortunate truth of being molested as a child.
Avion encourages us this episode as she tells young women that the only way healing can happen is in the light. When things are covered up and hidden, Satan has his way with them. When things are brought to light God can heal. Through the years, Avion went through both insecurity and healing and she started to seek God’s heart. She wrestled with bitterness and she found that surrender is simple and reconciliation is possible.
While life is not perfect, God loves us and hurts with us. Avion describes her experience of learning about free grace and of her identity in Christ. While God gives us mercy and grace to be human, Avion also describes our responsibility to seek and honor Him. God goes above and beyond what we expect. And when we abide in Him, we find ourselves prepared to do great things in His name (2 Samuel 22:30).

When we think of global missionaries, we don't often consider how their commitment affects their families. When Leah Yee’s parents began serving when she was just 11, she was completely changed and grown. Today, we talk about the ways God has constantly been at work in her life.
Apryl and Leah discuss the difficulties and challenges of what it was like for Leah to live in Ensenada, Mexico. She was thrust into missions and her life changed completely while on the mission field. There were times when she had trouble seeing what God was doing. But God, in his faithfulness, worked in her heart as she accepted the place God had her in for that season.
Leah began studying at a school of worship in Ensenada, learned Spanish, and began performing with Música de Movimiento, all while learning to do missions in Mexico alongside her parents. She began in ministry young, but Leah encourages us in that God can use people of all ages for his glory. As He changes us and allows us to be thrown into “lion’s dens,” He never leaves us, and He molds us into better reflections of Himself. Listen today, as Leah tells us about how to encourage our missionaries on field and what we can do to help.

Nikita Carter is a full-time musicianary with the band Christafari. Christafari uses their platform to spread the gospel to the masses through music and dance while on tour. In this episode, Nikita shares stories of healing, growth, struggle, faith and the reason all her work is worth it.
Nikita’s stories encompass the importance of community with other godly women. She describes their frustrations and says that “sometimes you have to be quiet and gentle and let God work.” As her trust grew in God, who knows us better than we know ourselves, so her worry lessened. Nikita has seen how God has worked miracles through Christafari’s music. Their music ministers to people all over the world as they work toward telling thousands of people who Jesus is and what he has done.
Tour life is not what it is cracked up to be. But it grew Nikita and the rest of the Christafari family as they dealt with uncertain and varying schedules. They learned lessons in flexibility and through relationships with their fellow bandmates. Nikita shared her life verse, 2 Corinthians 5:7 “We walk by faith and not by sight” and how through it, the bible became more real to her as she was rooted and grounded in it.
We all struggle with sin in our own ways, but the bible encourages us to move forward with the teaching of “The Adulterous Woman.” Jesus encouraged the woman to leave her sin behind, and “Go, now and leave your life of sin.” We can still be used for Jesus if we are ready, willing, and available.

Kasey is a former cast member of True Girl, a show on tour designed spread the gospel to moms and their daughters ages 7-12. Their purpose is to travel through North America, sharing the truth of Jesus and the message that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
As much as Kasey is living the gospel now, she didn’t always know and love Jesus. She grew up in a non-Christian home, her dad becoming saved when she was 10 years old. God, in his mercy and grace, allowed her to see a change in him as he began to live out his faith. As she experienced church and youth group in middle school, Kasey confronted the lies that all young girls hear. God brought her to people who loved her and cared for her despite who she was as a sinner and God’s grace became real to her.
We aren’t promised a pain free and easy life. Kasey lets us in to the details of how she faired spiritually and relationally while living life on tour with True Girl. Kasey welcomes us into her story of how she became a part of the True Girl team, learned to read the Word through a mentor, how to live for Jesus, and how to pursue a life in which she bears her cross daily.

Many young adults find themselves back at home for this season of life. In Part two of this session, Linda Anderson gets into the nitty gritty of familial relationships when reentering the family unit by giving us questions to ask ourselves and quick phrases to keep in mind.
Linda explains that family is where we develop essential patterns of how we perceive the world. We must practice being aware of these patterns, the sins they cause, and our reactions to them. We must act in growth rather than memory. There is a difference between “honor” and “obey.” It is so vital to your walk to have safe people and a community you can go to, to work things out. It’s never too late ot seek counsel and a different perspective.
Though we are surrounded by these patterns and are aware of the inappropriate ways to set boundaries, we are still responsible for acting in kindness, gentleness, and love as God -through the Bible- calls us to.
Today, we are discussing boundaries with Linda Anderson. Linda tells us what to look for in healthy mental, physical, and emotional boundaries. She gives us key examples of boundaries found in the bible and practical tips on how to handle building and maintaining healthy relationships.
Linda Anderson is a graduate of Liberty University where she studied psychology, religion, and communication. She earned a Bachelor of Science and is now a biblical counselor.
Boundaries and relationships are tricky to handle, as each situation is complex. Linda explains the difference between boundaries and rules. Rules determine the spheres of our lives, like sports and work - while boundaries operate within those spheres. The scope of boundaries and rules helps us in answering questions like, “Who’s in control?” and, “What freedoms do I have in this relationship?” During this episode, we cover how to establish proper boundaries in an appropriate way and how to identify safe people.
Linda delves into the relationship between Galatians 6:2 and verses found in Galatians 5 that speak of when we should carry one another’s burdens and when we should carry your own load. She explains that we are responsible to others but not for others. And describes key phrases to help us be aware of when we are overstretched or have instituted poor boundaries.
When our self-identity is rooted in Christ, that confidence extends into our other relationships. In Ephesians 4:32 we are shown why we should communicate with kindness. And in Proverbs 15:1, we look at our own emotional limits. As we grow, we gradually learn to ask questions such as, “How can I honor God with my words and attitude in this situation?” and, “What’s the best way for me to respond?”
Our relationships with our parents can be some of the hardest to navigate. Joe Garcia, pastor at Gateway Church in Brawley, discusses this topic and how to practically fulfill the fifth commandment (Exodus 20:12) in honoring our father and mother in a way that honors God.
We know that we were made for relationship because we were made in God’s image. God lives in a perfect relationship. So, what does it look like to love others well by His example? How should the gospel impact our everyday interactions with the people closest to us?
Pastor Joe covers what this looks like as we navigate living at home. He also identifies the difference between setting appropriate boundaries and when we should employ our gift of self-control. He tells us through his own experience, that initiating difficult conversations is tough but it makes things easier in the long run. As we remove “I” centered thinking, we look at how our parent’s perspective could be influencing their actions. And this brings us back to honoring God in the two greatest commandments found in Matthew 22:37-39, to love God and to love others well.

Apryl shares insights from previous guests and wisdom that she has come to know over the years through the Word of God. As humans, we desire wholeness and health in our relationships. By taking us through Ephesians 4:20-31, Apryl gives us tools to move forward and glorify God.
Biblical wisdom includes acknowledging that we cannot hold our earthly fathers to biblical expectations if they do not know Christ. Apryl advises us to pray first, that they may come to know Him. And through Genesis 4, Apryl warns us against the destruction of sin and the temptation found in our own memories. One further piece of wisdom is found in doing the HARD things that the Word of God calls us to. HARD stands for Hearing, Accepting, Responding, and Daring. This acronym spells out the gospel as we develop a relationship with Christ, take hold of the authority of his Word, and do our best to live it out.
And yet, how are we supposed to accomplish the difficult tasks, set out in Ephesians 4, in light of our hurt? It starts with a relationship with Christ. As we are reminded of who we used to be, we continually choose to put that person off and we renew our minds by taking in God’s Word.
As we navigate frustrating relationships, Apryl sheds light on the fact that we can be angry, but we must be cautious in not sinning (Ephesians 4:26) when in anger. We are reminded to let the words that we speak build people up. The book of James states that a mature Christian is indeed a doer and a hearer of the Word. Our challenge is to live out the Word of God now.
Domonique Zamora encourages us this episode with gospel truth. Coming from a broken home, she has reversed generational trends and is now raising a family and serving in ministry. Domonique is open about the daily struggles she faces and how she combats thoughts that aren't glorifying to God.
As Domonique grew up and was introduced to the church, she worked through the shame of her past through a gospel that became personal. We have a personal savior, in Christ, who lives in us. She explains how vital it is to realize that we do not fight alone. We have a God who sees exactly who we are and yet, still loves us and calls us by name. Which means we can and are called to stand confidently in mercy.
Domonique shares her struggles, how real they are, and how difficult it is to take our thoughts captive. As 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, it takes conscious effort and intention to “take every thought captive to obey Christ.” But we are called to do this very thing and we can take courage in that we have the appropriate tools to do good work, as the story of Gideon teaches.

We all have a deep-rooted desire to be part of a family. Ketzali Sanchez unravels her story of being grafted into God’s family. After losing a relationship with her father due to addiction, she shares the hope she found in a God that sees her and loves her.
Growing up, the gospel was not central for Ketzali. The love of God was difficult to grasp because the love of her earthly father carried little weight. As she grew and matured and changed in Christ, her hard heart began to soften. She began to meet God-honoring father figures who pointed her to Christ, who taught her that God came to redeem and bring her into a new family.
As she began to become more involved in ministry, she felt the importance of forgiveness and looking ahead in hope. Ketzali handles the hurt of fatherlessness and the questions and decisions that ensue.
This episode is part 2 of a 2 part series.
In part two of this episode with Araceli Godoy, we continue to discuss her story and how it leads to healing and forgiveness. During this hour we delve into Araceli’s experience with change, as her identity shifts in relation to her earthly father and her heavenly father. She once again is able to assume the role of a child who is dependent and in need of a father.
Our lives mold the way we view relationships. For Araceli, the constant absence of a father figure impacted the way she lived and the way she viewed others. After meeting her father, she transparently shares with us the hurt and hard heartedness she harbored. And as she examines this relationship, she shows us the messy, freeing, and real-life practice of pursuing forgiveness.
This episode is part 1 of a 2 part series.
This week we invited Araceli Godoy, who is the outreach Pastor at Faro Church, to share her own story of growing up in a fatherless home. Araceli transparently dives into her experiences, covering the sometimes-messy nature of dealing with relationships. God created us uniquely, to find joy and healing in the midst of hurt and wrongs.
After coming to Christ at age 20, Araceli began to understand her need for forgiveness not only from her eternal father but toward her earthly father. But her heart was tightly wound. This is where she really began to live out her faith. As a woman who has been forgiven much, she was given the chance to forgive much. But forgiveness didn’t make the hurt go away.
God created us uniquely as part of his design. We have desires for good healthy relationships but there is tension between what we feel longings for and the struggles we have harbored in this life against relationships. Yet, we still have hope in an eternal father who is here for us! Listen today as Araceli shares her heartbreak and the beginning of her journey toward healing.
Jeannie Baldomero shares with us her story of growing up with a military dad, missing the affection of a father, and then conversely the importance of having a relationship with Christ and knowing his unconditional love.
She tells about how her experiences with pride, resentment, and bitterness shaped the way she lived for a long time and what happens when we place our expectations of unconditional love on imperfect people. Jeannie’s story of her desire for a father figure and a mended relationship point her to key truths and promises offered in the person of Jesus. When God made things clear for her, he offered ways to forgive and trust knowing that the work of the cross is enough to satisfy our deepest wounds and desires.

Apryl Ortiz, our host, reflects upon the changes during this pandemic season. This season, like certain seasons for God’s people in the old testament, has served to prove where our faith lies as it is shaken. God is still working. But where are our thoughts?
None of us have been unaffected by the Coronavirus. Life has changed. And we’ve learned to live with less in a lot of ways. However, scripture reminds us that we are being put through trials, tested for refinement and to give God glory. Which in turn points us back to old testament teachings of God’s provision and care. For example, the teachings of Noah, Moses, and Jonah.
Apryl encourages us all to return to God’s word, putting it into practice. It is God, and God only, who will soothe our anxious thoughts. He is still working, and He is still our provider. Apryl imparts that our greatest tool, in various trials, is remembering who God is and what He has already done.
During this hour, our host Apryl talks with Curtis Zachary. Curtis is the author of the book, Soul Rest. From Franklin, Tennessee, Curtis is a teaching Pastor at a local church, helping people find true rest for themselves.
Soul rest is the rest that every human longs for. It goes deeper than physical rest. God shows us, by His own example how He wants us to rest. God rests in His own finished work, as we should also. Our value should be found in God’s finished work of Jesus on the cross.
We often believe that our works determine our value. This hinders us in our understanding of rest. At the foundation of the gospel lies Jesus’s works on our behalf. Curtis and Apryl also discuss how our experiences with our earthly fathers relate to our vision of our heavenly father, which in turn, may contort the way we view soul rest.

We frequently find ourselves tired, in the midst of uncertainty and the busyness of life. Apryl shares of how she acknowledged that she needed rest. It is so important, especially when we find ourselves in dry seasons, to stay grounded in truth by abiding in him. And for this reason, Apryl compassionately walks us through biblical truth found in Psalm 84 and encouragement concerning the importance of rest for our minds, bodies, and spirits. This episode includes three things that may help you in order to rest and process the heaviness of life.

We were created for relationship. Relationships don't just happen. They take intentionality. In this episode, Ozzie and I share our experience of coming from a community of believers and then moving to a new state where we had to intentionally seek out community. Listen as we share the steps we had to take to make intentional relationships.
As Christmas approaches, Apryl recounts her own powerful testimony of forgiveness. She shares of her own battles with bitterness after a childhood of hurt and anger. And then conversely how God revealed the sin in her life, pursued her with grace, showered her with mercy, and gifted her with forgiveness. This episode delves into the messy nature of our lives and the joy and freedom offered in Christ explained through Apryl’s attestation of faith.
She explains that we have experienced the forgiveness of God which gives us the understanding and compassion to forgive others. With Jesus, the forgiver of all debts as our example, Apryl challenges us once again to raise the standard of our culture with the gift of forgiveness.
