IS YOUR BRAIN BROKEN? // Distraction is real, and your lack of focus is keeping you stuck.
When you have to read the same sentence over… and over… and over before it clicks.
When you have to playback the same segment of your audiobook 5 times, because your mind keeps wandering.
When you just… can’t… think… of… that… word.
Sound familiar? If so, put a “YES” in the comments, because I know you’re not alone!
At best, it’s annoying.
At worst, it’s scary AF, because you don’t know what the hell is going on.
SO, tune into today’s WELLthy Wednesday episode where I teach you what’s actually going on in your brain and chat about why our typical coping mechanisms aren’t actually working.
PLUS, over the next few episodes, we’re going to dive deeper into the ways you can help rebuild your brain function from the inside out.

In this week's episode, I interview Maraliz Campos!
Maraliz, sound practitioner and wellness guide, challenges widely accepted industry narratives. Her pioneering sounds combine scientific and intuitive techniques to invite self-exploration. As a Latina with disabilities, she promotes accessibility and inclusivity while teaching us to shift our unconscious reactions to chosen responses. Her integration of formal musical training with raw sensory curation have helped her transition her own body from a state of severe disability to remission.
She is a certified sound practitioner, yoga instructor, meditation facilitator, dj, and sound designer who helps others ease stress with vibrations and movement using personal recordings, Himalayan/crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, violin, vocal looping, synths and percussive instruments.
She has studied with Silvia Nakkach, Dr. John Beaulieu, Sara Auster, Wendy Young and other industry pioneers. Maraliz completed her yoga teacher training while undergoing chemotherapy in 2015 after which she shadowed Jyl Kutsche for 8 months in therapeutic yoga at the Dallas Yoga Center. Her transmission ceremony of Thich Nhat Hanh's Five Mindfulness Trainings was completed with Terry Cortes-Vega at the Dallas Meditation Center.

This month, we’re tackling the theme of Wealth + Worth, and how this topic is intimately related to our health, and in this week's episode, we’re going through our Funky 5 on the personal, interpersonal, professional, societal and spiritual level.
Astrologically, We’re in Leo season - which is that lion energy - warm, driven, admirable - royal and regal! Definitely abundant! Leo is also ruled by the sun - the bringer of abundance! The sun represents that radiant kind of warmth and energy a real sense of vitality! You know people that you see that just radiate joy, and love, and health. That is the kind of wealth that resonates for us - and that’s the kind of wealth we will be exploring this month. That place where wealth meets, self-worth, and ways to align with prosperity.
In today's super special episode, Michelle interview's the Canadian-based company called Youtrients. This month our focus is on Boundaries + Beyond, and to kick off the month, we’re doing our Functional 5 - aka the Funky 5.
So, in this episode we’re going to be touching on boundaries in regards to the personal, interpersonal, professional, societal and spiritual level.
"Boundaries" is a really fun topic as we are sliding into a super social time of the year! And being social and having deeply enjoying long days and nights is a total blast -- AND if we’re not mindful of healthy boundaries we are like to be totally burned out by fall. Denise leads Ayurvedic-based seasonal cleanses, and she can tell you that for the one offered in late summer/early fall almost all the participants are feeling the symptoms associated with burn out. Hopefully talking about ways to hold our own now will lead to a more balanced summer.
This week we are going to answer YOUR questions about food and nutrition! Ya’ll have some tasty questions ranging from:
You are also looking for a little inspiration to get your buns in the kitchen - and we will be sure to touch on that too!

As you probably know, we interview a special guest every month, and this month, I’m chatting with our very own Denise Pasquinelli.
So, Denise is a Functional Nutrition Educator, Holistic Health Coach, Healthy Cooking Instructor, Plant-Based Chef, and Ayurveda enthusiast. Denise believes that food should be nourishing, and eating a celebrated act.
Her practice is called S E E D Health + Wellness. S E E D is where she teaches, cooks, and offers personal and group support with improving digestion, shedding stubborn weight, supporting hormonal health and fertility, reducing pain and inflammation, and overcoming fatigue — all through food and lifestyle adjustments. Denise takes a whole systems approach to healing, connecting health of the body to the food we eat, the cycles in our body, relationships in our life, the health of the environment, and the health of our emotions.
From an early age Denise was fascinated by the role emotional health has on the health of the physical body. The dynamic relationship between thoughts, feelings, and the manifestation (or eradication!) of disease, is illustrated via the chakra system in a beautiful way. Working with the chakras has had a profound impact on Denise's personal health, as well as the health of her clients. Viewing the food we eat, the activities that we engage in, and the events in our lives through the lens of the chakras creates an energetic, sensual, colorful shift to perception.
Denise works with groups and individuals to create a beautiful and holistic map to personal healing. She also creates online programs, workshops, and pop-up educational dinners.

In today’s episode, we’re going to dive into a topic that you probably have a super intimate connection with - stress.
Now, I know you’ve heard it before - you need to manage your stress better, you need to practice self-care, you need to meditate, you need to do this or that… but the thing is… you probably end up stressing out about NOT stressing, right?
Well, one thing that really kicks my butt into action is to not only understand the WHY behind doing something but also making it applicable to my life - you can relate, right? Our hope in today’s episode is to help you get a better understanding of how stress impacts us, and how it directly contributes to one of the main concerns of most of the women I work with - their weight.

Welcome to episode 40! In this week's episode, we’re chatting with Sarah Blondin who is the writer and creator of the transformational podcast, “Live Awake”. She spends her days, raising (and wrangling) her two young sons, in the countryside of British Columbia, Canada. She is currently writing her first book, due to release in the fall of 2019.
After spending years disconnected and at odds with her inner self and world, Sarah moved from Vancouver, to rural BC-and took a deep dive within. Through years of introspection and quiet solitude, Sarah uncovered for the first time, her authentic writing voice, and connected with what she calls “ a mainline to her divine source of wisdom.” She found ways to allow her heart to guide and govern, and to override the fear and trepidation she had around being vulnerably open.
Coming awake to the beauty she believes is intended for each of us, Sarah has dedicated her life to the pursuit of helping others find their feeling hearts again. She hopes that what she has gleaned through years of deep introspection, and meditation will assist listeners in turning toward themselves, and uncovering the great wealth carried within.

Hello, and welcome back! Today we’re gonna chat about habits, routines and rituals, and how honoring these daily patterns can actually boost creativity, enhance our focus, spark energy and basically help us kick ass each and every day.

Now, you’ve probably heard of the gut-brain connection, but do you actually know what that means?
To give you a super simple example, let’s do a little experiment. Think of vinegar - let’s think of raw apple cider vinegar to make it even more specific - think of the color, the smell, the temperature and the taste…
You might not be anywhere NEAR vinegar… but… you’re probably starting to salivate - even just a bit, right?
So, this is just ONE example of how connected our brain and gut are.

Today we are talking with Beth Learn who is the founder and CEO of Fit2B Studio, which is your warm-up for life, providing streaming home fitness routines and resources for those who wish to get all-over strong starting with their cores! Beth’s mission is to change lives one tummy at a time so that you can be a stronger contributor to your family, community, and world! Last week, we talked about movement and fitness from a personal perspective - how to get your butt moving during the day - either at your home or your office. So, today, we want to broaden that net and talk about movement while being social.
If you’ve heard of “blue zones”, then you know that having a strong social network - or finding the right tribe - even if it’s small - can dramatically improve your health. If you haven’t heard of blue zones, they are basically areas of the world where people tend to live the longest and highest quality lives.
People living in blue zones - many of whom live to be over 100, chose–or were born into–social circles that support healthy behaviors. And something super fascinating is that research shows that smoking, obesity, happiness, and even loneliness are contagious, which is kind of wild, when you think about it. So, the social networks of these long-lived people have definitely improved and shaped their healthy behaviors.

This month’s theme is movement and fitness, so we’re going to dive in to some of our favorite ways to move our butts. BUT don’t worry, we’re not talkin’ box gyms and extreme workouts. We’re going to be talking about some unconventional movement.
We’re on the edge of spring here, so it’s a natural time for us to start stretching and moving in ways that we may have put on hold over the winter months. It’s time to oil up those joints and put those muscles back to work.

I hope that you’re ready to close out our month of cleansing and detox!
Today we’re stepping away from the typical chemical conversation and diving a bit deeper into the mental/emotional element of toxicity - something that I see frequently with the women that I work with, and unfortunately, something that isn’t commonly addressed - at least by practitioners.

To keep with our theme this month of Cleansing and Detox, we have Lara Adler on the show today, and she is an Environmental Toxins Expert & Educator AND a Certified Holistic Health Coach.
She specializes in helping health practitioners better understand the links between environmental chemicals and their impact on disease states - anything from weight gain and diabetes, to thyroid disease and infertility - so they can better support their clients and patients.
Her students ALSO include healthy-minded consumers who are proactive about protecting their and their family's health & well being.
She takes a practical, real world approach to dealing with toxins that is informative, accessible, actionable and free from overwhelm.

Today I want to dive deep into maintaining motivation, since our theme this month is mindset and motivation. Now we’ve talked a lot about initiating that motivation by finding your core WHY - if this sounds foreign to you, check out Episode 22, where I cover the “five why exercise”. I also go over it in depth in my free online course - Creating Healthy Change, That Lasts… BUT maintaining that motivation is a whole other story, right? Once you’ve got that dose of motivation, you want to ride that wave as long as possible. Unfortunately, what I typically see happen is that they want to dive all in and tackle ALL THE THINGS - nutrition, exercise, water intake, supplements… But the thing is, we’ve been socialized for instant gratification. This means, when we go all in and have expectations to feel like a new woman after a week or two, and then that doesn’t really happen as planned, we can get really discouraged and slip back into our old habits. So, knowing this, and seeing it frequently with the women I work with, it’s important to focus on the small incremental changes that make the most significant impact. Listen to this week's episode and find out the four foundational pillars I focus on and the strategy I use to make sustainable healthy change.

So we’re officially a week into 2018, and I hope the year is already looking up for you.
It’s a new year, and the majority of us have new goals - maybe you’ve returned to work or school or home management this week - and your routines are getting back in gear after the long holiday season. Maybe you’re kicking butt at that list of resolutions, and if so, well done, you!
But whether or not you’re staying on track with your goals, for many (or most!) of us the first week gone is a good time to gauge how realistic the resolutions are that we set for ourselves. It’s after this first week that it’s not uncommon for us to start placing a foot or two outside the wagon, so to speak - it’s during this time that we can start losing momentum with our goals.
It’s time to decide - are you gonna admit defeat or use this as a moment to reevaluate, readjust, and get back on the horse.
This episode is here to give you some tips on how to optimize your mindset, so you can make it happen this year.
As an added bonus, I’ve revamped and re-released my online course all about creating healthy change, that lasts - so be sure to check it out - it’s totally FREE.

Ring in the New Year with Dr. Michelle and Ashlie Rose as they celebrate six months on air!
The start of a new year typically feels like a reboot - as if “New Year New You” floats on the wind. So it’s natural that this is the MOST popular time of year for gyms, shifting our eating habits and social media surges with fitness hashtags. With all the dietary fads and trends, it can be hard to know what is best for our long-term personal health and how to navigate these new nutritional parameters, once we choose a plan that suits our goals. Today we’re getting into one of these health trends - the Ketogenic Diet. We’ll go through the effects it has on your body, the pros and cons, how it compares to another health trend - the paleo diet - and offer some resources to see if Keto is the right move for you and your health in 2018!

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is the best time of year to revel in all that you’re grateful for - and the practice improves your mind, body, and spirit! Join us this week as we discuss the importance of taking note of all the good in your life, the ways in which you can show your appreciation for others during the holiday season (and the whole year long) through “presence instead of presents”, and how you can reshape your surroundings to serve as a constant reminder of all you appreciate in life.

This week, we had an beautifully eye-opening and thought-provoking interview with Rachel Monique Maskell. In this week’s episode, want to talk about the inevitable failures, pitfalls, missteps in life that take us off course, namely sabotaging our own healing process. It often comes up on this podcast (and in LIFE) that the first thing we sacrifice in the face of our mounting priorities and obligations - is ourselves. And when it comes to this topic, we’re coming at it from many angles.
Consider any one area of life and I am sure there is a desire for improvement, so we’ll go through the legitimate reasons we find (or lame excuses we create) that get in the way of our healing and growth, and then we’ll switch gears to get AMPED UP on ways to get back - and stay - on course.

As the new year approaches, many of us feel the need to shift into planning mode to prepare for the coming year.
Reflecting on the past year, many women I speak with are busy doing everything BUT the things they really want to be doing. A lot of that comes from the fact that it’s easy to have our day, our week, our month and even our year get away from us, because we tend to focus on everything and everyone else’s agenda but our own.
And then, the end of the year comes around, and we’re like… well, there that went… guess I’ll have to try again this year. And then, you set the same goal, share it with the same people, and ultimately have the same experience in the coming year.
Listen up to learn some tips on how to make the most of 2018.

We are in a time where we are uprooting old-as-time misconceptions, misrepresentations, biases, and injustices toward women and, as heavy as it is, the conversation is needed.
Menopause is a transition in fertility and a natural phase, as menses was when we were teens - and yet there is such a social stigma around it. A period of a woman’s life that, in some cultures, is looked at as a right of passage, evidence of her wisdom - in much of western culture is looked at as a sort of end of femininity, the symptoms of which should be masked by medications.
But we’re here to tell you this is total BS and we’re going to spend this episode diving deeper into this topic and why, when the changes at midlife occur for you, you should truly look at it as that - mid-life! There is so much more of your amazing life to be lived and so much to offer this world and your community.

With all the shifts that are going on in the world, it’s easy to get stuck in a scarcity mindset. We become reactionary, instead of proactive. We focus on depletion of resources, instead of the possibility for ingenuity to create new solutions and breakthroughs. We focus on the unfairness and unequal distribution, instead of the opportunity for more people to combine their capabilities to create better and stronger futures.
This is why we’re focusing on Abundance + Harvest this month. Let’s shift the negativity and create the lifestyle we want to live based on resourcefulness, gratitude, creativity and cooperation.
“So why not simplify with intention and clear the clutter of outdated friendships, unfulfilled relationships, or just negative self-talk to create room for more and live abundantly.”

If we’re allowed the space and time for creative expression, self-pampering and intentional solitude, our ability to maintain focus and attain that life we envision, is truly accessible.

I can’t tell you how many people I chat with who feel like victims to their genes, like they have this genetic destiny that is looming over them at all times. They talk to me about how their mom had an autoimmune condition, or their grandfather had heart disease, and I can sense their fear. Fear that they will end up like them…
The truth is, we’re not victims, because over 98% of our genetic blueprint can be modified! It’s called epigenetics.
So what is epigenetics? In this episode, we'll talk about how our genes can change their expression without altering our genetic code. This means that the choices we make can actually “turn up” good genes while “turning down” or even silencing “bad” genes.
BUT this also means, that we can make choices that do the opposite, right? We can end up turning up the bad genes and turning down the good genes, which can lead to various diseases or pathological conditions.
