When God created Adam, He did more than simply place the first man in a garden—He entered into a covenant with him as the head of all humanity. As God's royal image-bearer, Adam was regarded as God's son and representative king, called to trust God's word, obey His commands, and extend His good rule so that the earth would be filled with the life-giving knowledge of God's glory. From the beginning, God purposed to advance His glorious kingdom through covenant.

Jesus Christ is the radiance, the brilliance, the very outshining of the glory of God, so that, as the rays of the sun proceed from the sun and convey the brightness of the sun, Jesus Christ, being the brightness of the Father's glory, proceeds from the Father and reveals His glory to us. To know the Son is to know the Father. This is eternal life (John 17:3).

Early on in Paul's letter to the Romans, the apostle explains humanity's greatest threat and it's greatest problem. The more we grasp what we are by nature and what we deserve because of our sins, the more we'll appreciate the unspeakably wonderful gift that God offers sinners in His Son, Jesus Christ.----This sobering portion of Scripture serves as a mirror for human beings today as it did nearly two-thousand years ago when it was written. The loud, resounding cry of history is that the human heart-ever since Genesis 3-has not changed.
