Devotional Questions:
ONE: If I can remember that Christ came into the chaotic realities of our world as a baby 2000 years ago, I can find JOY amidst the chaotic realities of our world today.
Reflection Question: Just like Solomon wondered if God would really dwell on earth, what are you wondering about if God could really do today? How might that specific action on God’s behalf bring you JOY (calm delight) today?
TWO: If I can remember that the Lord will do things in unexpected ways to accomplish His purposes, I can find JOY when I think I’m out of options.
Reflection Question: When has the Lord done the unexpected thing in an unexpected way to bring you JOY when you thought you were out of options?
THREE: If I can remember that Jesus chose to become like us, I can find JOY when I don’t feel like anyone knows what I am going through.
Reflection Question: When was a time when the Lord met you when you were feeling a little lost and alone?

Activity TWO
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, we have seen his glory, the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” - John 1:14 NIV
“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”
When we hand a child a box of crayons, they will draw for hours. When we hand an adult a box of crayons, they will quickly tell us they are not an artist. Where did we lose our wonder, and how can we reclaim it? Using your imagination, draw a picture of John 1:14 as the Lord reveals it to you.

The Seven Woes (Matthew 23:13-36)
Grief unto you. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn.
Blessed are the meek. (accurate self-view) Lost without God, complete in Him!
You shut the door of heaven in people's faces.
You corrupt your disciples.
You wobble in your commitments.
You've neglected mercy and justice.
You're full of greed and self-indulgence.
You put up a spiritual front, but you're dead inside.
You criticize others and follow their lead.

Grief Worksheet:
What is your first response, typically, when you receive troubling news?
Think of a few times when receiving bad news hit you pretty hard and make note of them.
Four Observations About Grief From this Text:
Grief Takes Time and Requires Our Attention | Because we’re not great at waiting, Jesus gives us opportunities to wait. This won’t be the first time.
Jesus Joins Us in Our Grief
This is empathy. Sometimes we see that words are helpful. Sometimes we see that they aren’t. Regardless of the circumstance, what is most helpful is presence.
Jesus Leads Us From Grief to a Resurrected Life
This sickness will not end in death….Sometimes in what is temporary, but always in what is eternal. From an eternal perspective, we can know the end from the beginning!

Our time in worship on Sunday lended itself to an extended time of prayer with one another. In consideration of the promises God has invited us to wait patiently for, we asked, "In what areas are we contending with God to see promises come about?"
We invite you into this time of worship and to consider for yourself, "Where you wrestling with God to see not yet realized promises come to fruition?"

Practicing the Way | Be With Jesus (John Mark Comer)
Discipleship > Belief + Attendance.
Discipleship = Being with Jesus + Becoming Like Jesus + Doing What Jesus Did
(Participation > Attendance)
Core Question: How are we participating with Jesus (and with each other) in the dream God has imagined for us since the beginning of time?
Turning God into A Habit
Where do our minds settle, where does our attention turn when we have opportunities to rest?
What are things we do besides resting when our minds and bodies have a chance to be still?

Practical Ways to Be with Jesus
Find Our Secret Place
“If we want to reach the depth of life with God that Jesus modeled, we need to find a diversion-free place to get away and be alone with the Father. It could be an office in the woods, your bedroom late at night, or a park down the street from your house. Or if all that fails, a closet or pantry. The point is, like Jesus, we need to learn to hide.” Comer, 56-57

South Everett Foursquare
Palm Sunday 2023
“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace - but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” - Luke 19: 41-44
Question ONE: What steals your peace?
Question TWO: What brings true peace? (This is a week to gaze upon Jesus)
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, whether, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” - Colossians 1:15-20

Courageous Belief | We are bold in our belief that the Gospel transforms lives. Recognizing that apart from Christ we can do nothing, and acting on His clear call to raise up disciples; a generation of gospel fluent city influencers, we are bold in our proclamation of the Gospel and courageous in our efforts to seek the shalom and flourishing of our cities.
Core Behaviors (We Will):
Sacred Relationship | We are committed to healthy, vibrant and family-centered relationships; both with God and with others. We are created in God’s image; designed to thrive in relationship with God and with others. We value healthy and vibrant relationships within our congregation, with visitors, neighbors, and with our city. This health and vibrancy comes from God who has moved towards us at all costs through the person of Jesus. It is our commitment to move towards one another with a similar demonstration of love, courage, grace and humility modeled by Jesus, especially when conflict arises in our relational pursuits. We aim for reconciliation and restorative practice in our relationships, not perfection.
Core Behaviors (We Will):
Pursue Jesus. We will pursue Jesus daily, recognizing that He alone gives us the ability to serve and receive from others. We will seek out and establish time in the Word, prayer and fellowship.
Establish accountable relationships. We will engage each other in the messy details of life, during and apart from our regular gatherings, while receiving and extending grace. We will choose vulnerability over passivity and will speak truth to one another within the context of love, acceptance and forgiveness.
Assume trust. Where there are gaps in information, we will assume trust and approach the appropriate people while asking the right questions to arrive at clarity in a timely manner.
Listen. Our aim in listening is to arrive at understanding, not to prove our point. We will be slow to speak and slow to become angry.
Live generously and pursue interdependency. Understanding that we can’t accomplish very much on our own, we will each carry our portion of the load. We will make generous sacrifices, whenever possible, for the good of our congregation and our community as a whole. These sacrifices are related to our time, talents and / or financial resources.

Signs and Wonders | We believe that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to be the presence of Jesus with one another and in our surrounding communities. We have access to God through the shed blood of Jesus. We are commissioned by Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We have freedom to use our time, talents, and material resources for the good of others unto God’s glory. We believe the same power that raised Jesus from the grave is available today to bring spiritual, physical, relational and emotional healing and resurrection.
Core Behaviors (We Will):
We thank God for His faithfulness and provision in the life of South Everett Foursquare in 2022! We are faithful stewards of both resources and relationships. Join us as we take a look back on the year that was in the life of our community!

Waiting and Gratitude Devotion (Follow Along with Pastor Chris' Message)
Waiting, when stewarded well, becomes the foundation for Gratitude.Gratitude, when stewarded well, becomes the foundation for Generosity.Generosity, when steward well, becomes the foundation for Community.Community, when steward well, becomes the foundation for Transformation.
What are some things you’re hoping or expecting to see come to pass in your life? For yourself? For friends and family? For our greater community, nation, world?
What are some things you’re waiting on?
Is it a pro-active, patient kind of waiting? Is it a passive, ‘stuck’ kind of waiting? (As in the next steps are unclear...)
What would you like to share with the Lord about the hopes and expectations? What would you like to share about the waiting process?
As you reflect on the waiting process, in what ways to you see gratitude entering the equation? Where do you see signs of healing, provision, joy, etc.
In your relationship with God… In your relationship with friends and family…. In the ways you’re able to make contributions to the world around you…. In the ways your able to relax and replenish …

Jesus Revealed Through the Gospel of John
As we focus intently on Jesus, on His words and His actions, Jesus reveals Himself to us. As we confess His Lordship, He moves us from our limited point of view and towards a view that centers around His Kingdom and not our own.
