This week we look at two more examples of the righteousness that Jesus longs to see in those who are walking with Him in His Kingdom. Jesus talks about the motives behind divorce and the degrees of truthfulness that we maintain in our lives.
In this message Jesus show us two examples of how the righteousness He's seeking in us goes much deeper than the righteousness He sees in the legalistic and religious people of the day. Jesus looks for us to have the same heart and mindset that He does. He shows us what that heart looks like as He talks about the familiar laws against murder and adultery.
Sometimes when we think of the law, we think of rules. The bible has a law in it that God gave us. But Jesus' approach to the law helps us to see it in a much different and better light.
How are we meant to live here on earth even though we are citizens of the kingdom of heaven? How can we welcome others into the kingdom of heaven? These two questions will be answered today as we learn that Jesus has saved us so that we will be the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
Who is Jesus' Kingdom given to? Who is most at home in Jesus' Kingdom? Is there perseverance needed in the kingdom life here on earth? What Jesus unlocks for us in the beatitudes is the foundation for what life in His Kingdom looks like during our time on earth.
Many say that Jesus' most famous teaching is his sermon on the mount. But what were the circumstances that Jesus preached this message under? What was going on in Israel? Where did Jesus choose to preach this important message? Who were the people that made up his audience? Today we set up our series on the sermon on the mount by asking this questions.
We wrap up our series on the church today by talking about actions steps that we as a church need to take. We never want to just hear the word of God to be entertained. We have learned so much about the church and now it's time to be the church that God is calling us to be. It's all about His glory!
How should churches handle sin? This is a big question. But God loves His church and has given us good instructions in the bible so that we handle sin correctly. We never deal with sin as a church so that we can kick people out. It's always about seeking restoration for the person and health for the body.
Worship is something that many churches include in their meetings. But, how many churches ask, "What does God want our worship to look like?" The bible actually answers this question very well! Today we look at hindrances to the worship we are meant to give to God. And, we look at several verses that describe what our worship is meant to look like starting with our hearts.
Money? Really? Yes! A healthy church has God's design in every single thing we do. The bible talks much about money and we want to handle our money with God's wisdom. When we do, His church can flourish. If we are sincere about wanting God's Kingdom to grow here on earth, it means that we are eager to worship God with the finances He has blessed us with.
It's necessary in the church to realize that God has given us to each other as a gift. We aren't there to just fill a building but rather fill each other's lives. When we learn to hold each other up and keep each other moving closer to the standards of God, we serve each other well. This process is called accountability. Accountability is practiced best with truth, love, and humility.
Another important part of a church's leaders are deacons. They have a unique role in that they don't steer the ship, but they serve and implement the plans of the leaders as an example for everyone else to follow. Healthy churches need godly deacons! Learn with us today.
Today we talk about a key leadership role of the local church - elders! This is a special role that the bible commends people for desiring to serve in.
We continue to answer the question: What is leadership in the church meant to look like? This week we look at the role of evangelists, pastors and teachers. These may be more familiar terms to the church today but, we tend to slowly drift away from the job description that they have. Today's message reminds us of the role of these leaders among us and our responsibility to allow them to serve us and build us up.
What is leadership in the church meant to look like? Has God given certain people, gifted by Him, to serve and build the church into health? Yes! Apostles and prophets are two gifts God gives to people for just that purpose. In this message we understand apostles and prophets in the New Testament and find out what that means for churches today.
We know we want our churches to be healthy but what does that even look like? What do we need to focus on? What do we need to give ourselves to? What will it take for God's mission - to bring the Good News to all people - to happen through us? Today we discuss three attitudes that are paramount for any church to have if it will be healthy and a reflection of Christ.
What does the bible say the purpose of the church is? And just as importantly, are churches getting this right? What are the signs of a healthy church, a sick church, and even a dying church? There is only one picture of what a healthy church looks like - and that's what God says in the bible. Come and join us on this amazing and challenging series as we dive deep into God's good design for The Church.
What did Jesus do after his 40 days of fasting in the wilderness? He was tempted by the devil and then His ministry began. As our fast ends today, how do we prepare to face temptation and how do we prepare for fruitfulness?
Our hunger for God is a measurement of our spiritual desires. Hunger for God is super necessary for us and our life of faith. Jesus teaches us to hunger for Him. In today's message we look at several ways we can allow our hunger for God to grow.
i wonder sometimes if we understand just how passionate God is for our faithfulness to Him. In the two passages that we look at today we see that Jesus say there is an appropriate time for us to fast and fasting is a way that we can respond to our passionate God. If you wonder if God values fasting, I think today's message will positively answer that question for you.
January is going to be a month of prayer and fasting here at CFC. Today we introduce fasting by talking about what it is, how it works, and the reason why we do it. Come and learn with us why we deny our physical hunger and choose to increase in hunger for our God.
All the God has done for us is because of his great love for us. God's love is what all people need to experience so they can be transformed from the inside out to be more like Jesus. Today we hear a powerful testimony of God's love transforming someone's life. We also see the deep and divine love of God for people revealed in the Christmas story from Luke 2. Merry Christmas friends!
Are you aware of God's marvelous grace given to you? If so, your life is meant to be full of incredible joy! As Christians, the Holy Spirit not only lives in us but fills us with joy that changes our perspective on life. In today's message and testimony, learn with us and appreciate the presence of joy through the work of Jesus.
Today we look at peace. A lot of people have ideas about peace that are nice sounding but not necessarily true. Listen to what God's word says about peace. It may be a little surprising but amazing all at the same time. Then at the end, you'll hear Brian's testimony of how God's peace entered his life in a powerful and wonderful way.
Merry Christmas! When Jesus came to earth as a baby, he gave the entire world incredible hope. Hope that sin would be conquered, we could be made right with God, and we would have eternal life through Him. But, how does hope work in our lives in the here and now - after Jesus came but before He comes again? Listen as Beth testifies about exactly that from her own life.
Five years ago, God taught me something about the value of consistency. I'm very glad to share it with you today. If you want closeness with God, understanding of Him and His will, a deeper meaning for your faith; I believe this message will be helpful for anyone who wants to grow in those areas.
We finish up our Emotional Wholeness series today by talking about love - easily the most powerful emotion on earth! Through this message we're going to understand what love is. We'll see how Jesus lived with love. We'll understand the power love has in our own lives, the perils of misplaced love, and our goal will be to embrace the command to love. Thanks for joining us today!
Grief, sadness, or sorrow. We all go through these emotions at times. Are these purely negative experiences or is there a God given purpose for times like this? Can grief have any goodness? Come with us as we study the emotion of grief today.
It's a big one this week. We're dealing with shame - one of the most debilitating emotions that Christians face. But why does shame have such a devastating effect on Christians? What are the spiritual ramifications of shame? How can we be set free from shame? Listen in for a hopeful message.
What do you think, did Jesus ever experience anxiety? I think He did! But, He was never conquered by it. Today we talk about the emotion of anxiety. We'll look into Jesus' life to see a few key ways that He successfully defeated anxiety in his life. And, if you do these same things, I'm confident that you will defeat anxiety in your life, too.
Anger, what is it good for? I think you might be surprised at God's design for anger that is revealed to us in Jesus. Today we look at how anger helps align us with God's heart toward wickedness and injustice.
Is exhaustion an emotion? Or can exhaustion lead us to experience difficult emotions? Believe it or not, Jesus was exhausted at times. Today we find out what Jesus teaches us about what should exhaust us and what we should do about it.
This week we talk about joy! Joy is something that we all want. When we zoom in on Jesus' life, we see that joy comes from knowing God intimately. Jesus talks about His own joy and the joy He wants to share with us.
We've talked about our need to take an emotionally driven thought captive. But, what if we attempt to do that and we realize that perhaps we've already been taken captive by that very same emotionally driven thought? Is it too late? Are we stuck forever? What do we do? Today we are going to learn that these deep emotions and thoughts that hold us captive are called spiritual strongholds. We're going to learn how to identify spiritual strongholds and how how they show up in our lives in the first place. Then we'll talk about a strategy for dealing with spiritual strongholds and hear an incredible story about Christ's power that led to victory over spiritual strongholds in someone's life.
We may not want to admit it very quickly but our emotions have the potential to get out of control. And, emotions that get out of control can and will lead us to sin. How do we deal with this as people who have been gifted with an entire range of emotions? While Jesus was on earth, He experienced lots of emotions just like we do. He showed us through his life that when emotions were running high, He went to the Father. His emotions acted like a gauge to tell Him when it was time to draw especially close to the wisdom and counsel of God.
Today we begin a new series about emotions. We all have emotions and we've all had our emotions get the best of us from time to time. But, we want to have self-control and use our emotions properly instead of letting them control us. Today, we jump into this series by answering a few questions: What are emotions? Where do they come from? What is God's purpose for our emotions? In short, emotions help us perceive the world, have a relationship with God, and even hear from God. They are actually so good!
To testify means to give evidence. Are Christians supposed to testify about God? If so, why? Who do we testify to? Just to non-believers or to each other right here in church? Testimony has great power! We need to understand what it is, why we need it, and of course how to testify well. Today's message was inspired by a time of looking at the bible, prayer, and hearing from the Lord at our latest church board meeting.
Encouragement has been a major theme throughout Colossians. As Paul closes this letter, he gives us several effective methods for how to encourage brothers and sisters in Christ. We also look at two major takeaways from this series.
When we lived a renewed life, we aren't meant to keep it to ourselves. Jesus changes us from who we use to be - lost in sin and wickedness - to someone who is alive in Him and living for His goodness. As believers we are meant to pray for effectiveness in our lives as Christians and to be ready to be used by the Lord to rescue more people from darkness and help them walk in the Kingdom of light. Today's message is about exactly this!
In Colossians three Paul has been teach us what it means to live a renewed life. We throw off the old sinful lifestyle we used to live and put on the character of Jesus. There is no place where it is more important to do this than at home with our families. We're talking about how to live a renewed life at home this week. Marriage, parenting, being kids for Jesus, and even workplace relationships take center stage this week. Great communities come from great churches. Great churches come from great families. Enjoy!
Although this isn't a typical "message," it definitely teaches us the amazing power and love of Jesus Christ. Please listen to and enjoy the incredible story of a young woman who was lost and Christ reclaimed her for himself.
If you're anything like me, you love practical and easy to understand instructions. The passage we're going to look at today is exactly that! But first, before we get to those instructions, we get to explore a totally packed sentence where Paul calls us chosen, holy and loved by God. What do these things mean? Are they significant or just feel good words thrown into the bible? Do they matter for the life that we're called to live? We'll answer these questions and more in today's message.
As Christians, we have a new life with Jesus Christ. But, what is that life meant to look like? How is it different from the life that we were living before we met Jesus and put our faith in Him? Is it just rules or is it freedom? Will it change us in our heart or is it just meant to change our behavior? Jesus wants to bring deeper and lasting renewal into your life! That's the heart of today's message.
Can we trust in Jesus alone or is there something else we need to add into the mix? This is a question that people wrestled with back in Paul's day and many people still wonder the same thing right now. In today's message we see that Christ alone is all we need. He is sufficient and we are totally complete when we put our faith in Him.
Twenty-one people from CFC went to Buffalo, NY to spend a week ministering alongside the staff and volunteers at the Buffalo Dream Center. You're about to listen to six of those 21 people share about how God impacted them during their week in Buffalo.
This week, we hear how Paul writes about what it means to suffer for the sake of the gospel. He labors and agonizes for the Colossians even though he has never met them. We learn about what is looks like for someone to be so committed to sharing the gospel even when it brings great suffering into their life. There's a great invitation for you in this message!
What's the secret to stay on track with Jesus and standing against all of the false ideas that the world throws at us? Understand and come close to Jesus in all we do! Paul helps us do that through a poem all about Jesus today. We also talk about three cultural pressure that we face presently and how we can identify them so we don't allow them to compromise our closeness with Jesus.
Some people think that the bible is outdated and full of old ideas. I couldn't disagree more! We live in tumultuous times just like people did back when the bible was written. We have social, political, and cultural pressures today and so did people back then. One of those groups were the Christians from the city of Colossae. The Apostle Paul wrote them a letter to encourage them in their faith in the midst of the pressure they were facing. Today we begin to read through and study the book of Colossians. Our goal is to be encouraged and strengthened to stand strong with Jesus just like the Colossians were.
We wrap up our series today by talking about how a Christian marriage provides strength for us to be on mission for Christ. Jesus called all of us to build one another up and make disciples. How does this work in the context or marriage? Is it possible? Is it practical? The answers to all this and more in today's message.
You can't talk about marriage without talking about sex! Sex and sexuality are God's very good design! In today's message we will learn about the awesome intention that God gives to sex. In this message we'll discuss why the bible teaches that sex is meant to be confined to marriage. How does sex play a valuable role in marriage. How to deal with our sex-crazed culture as a single person. Then we'll end by talking about and walking towards healing from sexual sin.
It's undeniable - men and women are different! According to the way God created us, we're supposed to be different. But how do our differences work together? How do we compliment one another? Do we have roles as defined by God or is it up to us to decide what role a man or woman holds in a marriage relationship? There are a lot of questions on this topic. We attempt to answer them today and learn some of the beautiful ways God made us different, yet, it's our differences as men and women that help complete each other.
The purpose of marriage is for a husbands and wives to help one another become more like Jesus. We do this for each other by lovingly and truthfully speaking to each other about the character we see in the other person. Sometimes there will be a loving but corrective word that needs to be spoken. Other times it may be an encouraging or affirm message. Either way, as we do this, we are working in cooperation with the Holy Spirit to help each other resemble the person of Christ.
We've been looking at the question, "What is Marriage" so far in this series. Today we finish answering that question by talking about the consumeristic approach to marriage vs. the covenantal approach to marriage. After that we'll start talking about what marriage is for. Today's message reveals that marriage is primarily about friendship. Maybe that's a surprise to you, maybe not! Either way, friendship in marriage is not only good, but it's biblical.
Ephesians 5:21 is an important verse! It serves as a link between two concepts - being filled by the Spirit and submission in marriage. I don't think we need to cringe at the word submission when we understand it through the lens of the Gospel. Today we talk about the purpose that submission serves in our marriages, what the enemy of submission is, and how to defeat this enemy.
We're starting a new series today on marriage. This series is loosely based on the book by Timothy Keller: The Meaning of Marriage. Today, we want to understand three main points. What is marriage? Is Marriage good? How do the Gospel and marriage work together? I love that we don't have to guess about marriage - the most important relationship on earth. We can read God's word and know what it is meant to look like. This series isn't just for married people! It's for everyone, trust me. Enjoy!
What does it mean to be in God's presence? Is this a physical thing or a heart thing like so much of what Jesus teaches us? Is it normal for Christians to be in God's presence? How do we learn to be in God's presence? How do we open our hearts to Him? We answer all these questions today. God loves you and He invites you into His presence. Come and learn with us.
We wrap up our Easter series today with this message from Hebrews 10. In this passage we discover that there is a clear invitation from God for us to experience life with him like we couldn't before. We are meant to be bold and confident as we approach God. There's also an exhortation here for us to live the Christian life together with other believers. Listen carefully and respond faithfully to what God speaks to your heart through this message. Jesus loves you!
Worship is us responding to God's revelation. It's really that simple. And this kind of responsive worship is meant to be a lifestyle. Our feature verse today is Romans 12:1. The part about us being a living and holy sacrifice is so awesome to think about! Jesus sacrificed himself in his death for us. We sacrifice ourselves in the way we live for Him. What an exchange!
As Christians we're really good at pointing to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross as the most significant part of our faith. And it is super important! But, what do we do today as a result of our faith in Jesus? Starting today, we begin to answer the question "Now what?" Galatians 2:17-21 is where we begin this series. This passage highlights that living by faith today is something that we Christians need to today. What does that look like? How do we live by faith? How will this change us for the better? We answer all these questions here in part one of our 2023 Easter series.
We've made it! This is the last message on the gospel of John for us. It's a beautiful story of grace and love. Peter is reinstated. Jesus gives a clear vision for how all of us as His disciples should expect to live for Him. We'll relate the teaching of Jesus in chapter 21 to the overall theme of John. Thanks for being a part of this whole series. It has been awesome to look at this gospel together.
Your faith is what Jesus cares about. He stopped at nothing when He went to the cross so that our faith in Him would result in our salvation. But, Jesus knows that we have doubts, fears, and worries. So He keeps working in our lives to enhance our faith in Him. He keeps meeting us in our needs so that our confident trust in Him will grow. I hope today's message from John 20 is a comfort and an encouragement to you.
In today's message, Mary, Peter, and John all experienced the empty tomb. It's awesome to see how the empty tomb really spoke to Peter and John. It was a moment of deep realization for them about their Savior Jesus. We're going to look at their experience with the tomb and then discuss three really valuable pieces that we can learn for ourselves from this story today.
If you think about your own life as a Christian, when did it become real for you? I mean, really real? I think all of us need to have a moment like this where we are done playing games, done playing it safe, and we put our faith on display and we don't care who sees it. We see this in two men today as we look at John 19. Plus, so many more wonderful things that happen as a result of Jesus giving His life for us.
Who do you say Jesus is? This is the question that every single person must answer during this life. Here in John 18, we see how three people came face to face with this question. All of them responded differently. Your response to Jesus matters for all eternity!
I say it often, but that's because it's true - Jesus is our example. As we get into John 18 this week I was struck by the example of Jesus yet again. He follows the will of God for his life allowing himself to be arrested, fully aware of all that's coming his way. What does it look like for us to follow this kind of example in our lives? Think and wonder about this with me today.
We're finishing up Jesus' prayer here in John 17. And it's incredible because this week we learn that Jesus prays for us! That's right, you and I are prayed for by Jesus. So good! Themes of glory and unity continue in verses 20-26. I hope you enjoy.
Jesus prays for His disciples in the passage that we look at today. Are you a disciple of Jesus? If so, there is much for you and me to learn from what he prays about for here in John 17. A key to this message is seeing the joy that we can experience in Christ even as we live in the midst of hardship is this troubling world.
Have you ever listened to someone as they prayed out loud? What did you learn about them? What did their prayer tell you about their heart? Today, in John 17, we look at the prayer Jesus prayed just a short while before He is arrested, put on trial, and crucified. Some amazing insights beginning this week!
Jesus doesn't pull any punches with His followers. In the passage we're looking at today (John 16:16-33) Jesus tells us the truth about what it looks like to follow him. It will be tough, there will be challenges, but the joy that comes into our lives is ours forever!
In this short and sweet message we blend the old and the new. We look at the ancient story of Jesus' birth and see how it is meant to impact us right now in the time that we're living. There's no sense in just going through the motions. We need this story to mean something for us today. Merry Christmas!
We've been looking at faith, hope and love. But then Paul goes off and says that love is the greatest. What makes love great? And, what makes Paul say that love is the greatest even amongst faith and hope? In this message we look at four reasons why love stands out as THE characteristic of God and the characteristic we should most try to emulate.
Love is fantastic! But what love is, according to God, has been badly distorted in our world. Many people think they are loving, but a closer inspection reveals that the love the operate with is based on selfishness and personal preference. Most people, probably including Christians, need to relearn what biblical love is. Join us today for this message and be equipped to love as God loves!
Hope isn't what you think it is! In this message we reveal what biblical hope looks like and how it is vastly superior to the hope most people live with. Plus we discover many reasons to hope in Jesus.
1 Corinthians 13:13 says that three things will last forever - faith, hope and love. Today we talk about the first one, faith. What is it? Why is faith important to God? How can I have faith? In this message we answer all of these questions. We also talk about what it means to have faith that is productive! Thanks for tuning in. Merry Christmas!
Some people ask, "Why do we need to pray?" It's a great question and better yet are the reasons why we should pray. It's so much more than just getting our prayers answered! Today we look at eight reasons why we should pray. I hope that this encourages you and helps you love and appreciate God even more.
Yes, we can hear from God! This is great, but, is this the only way we should hear? Should we tune out everything else? Or is there balance? In this message we talk about several other areas that cannot be ignored just because we have learned to hear the voice of God.
As we learn to hear God's voice we also need to learn how to be discerning and wise in recognizing and following his voice. We can be really practical about this actually! Today's message is meant to help us guard against becoming weird and staying wise as we are led by the Spirit.
I wonder if most people think that God is one dimensional in his communication. Maybe people think that we have to hear from God in a certain way, otherwise we'll miss what He's saying to us! I think the bible says the exact opposite. In today's message we look at several ways that our creative and loving God speaks to us so we can be led by Him.
The bible is such a gift from God. It contains truth and instruction that we can base our lives on. For many Christians though, they read the bible their whole lives and it doesn't really change them. Frustrating! Why is this? Are we missing something? Consider this, God communicates to us through scripture but He also communicates to us by speaking personally into our lives. In today's message we understand the value of both God's written and spoken word.
The Holy Spirit is our friend and He's the one who brings great and necessary changes to our lives. But, are ALL Christians truly led by the Spirit? What does it look like for a believer's life to be led by the Spirit? In this new series, inspired by Jesus' teaching about the Holy Spirit from John 16, we explore what being led by the Holy Spirit is meant to look like. Here's a teaser: the only Christians who will be led by the Holy Spirit are those who are invested in the mission of the Kingdom of God here on earth! Hope you are inspired!

This is a message from our church picnic. It's about being uncomfortable and understanding that being uncomfortable is actually a biblical and necessary idea. Hope you hear God speak to you as you listen.
By the way, if you enjoy these messages and would be so kind, I (Pastor Jeff) would love to hear from you. I'm hoping to connect a little more with our online community. Let me know where you're from and tell me a couple things about yourself. I promise that I'll respond. How fun would it be to get to know each other! You can either text me at 701-303-0811 or email me at jeff@candocfc.com. Thanks for listening!
