As high achievers, it's easy to get caught up in all that life has going on & forget to take a step back and reflect on our goals and priorities. That's where a word or phrase of the year can come in handy.
By choosing a word or phrase that embodies what we want to focus on in the coming year, using it as a guiding light to help us stay on track.
Do you have a word or phrase of the year?
As I shared last week, my phrase of the year is "Follow Through." When I am feeling lazy & want to put something off until later, I remind myself to follow through.
By reminding ourselves of our chosen words or phrases daily, we can stay focused on the things that matter most and avoid getting sidetracked by distractions.
In this podcast episode, I share seven reasons why I think you should have a word or phrase of the year. After you listen to the episode, share your word or phrase of the year via email at markeith@markeithbraden.com
Happy New Year!
Wow, we are in the year 2023. Can you believe it? The older I get, the faster time seems to go by.
Question for you. Did you accomplish all of your goals in 2022? Honestly, I did not, & I was not excited about that. During my reflection time, I concluded that I did not accomplish all of my goals in 2022 because I did not follow through on what I said I would do.
It was that simple. I did not follow through. Therefore, I have tagged this year as “The Year of Follow Through.”
Everything you desire is on the other side of your follow-through. Commit & do what you said you were going to do. Whether you’re trying to learn a new skill, make a career change, or accomplish a personal goal, following through is a must.

You deserve to bet on yourself, but no one can make you do it. Either you’re interested in being the master of your own fate or you’re content with living life on the side lines, waiting for someone to decide when you get to play and when you have to ride the bench.
Betting on yourself is the fastest way to success. Waiting for the world to give you permission to be great is the slowest way to mediocrity.
In this previously recorded Facebook live episode, I'm going to be sharing with you some powerful reasons why you should be betting on yourself.
In this age of content creators and information, now is the best time for you to really leverage your skills and your expertise for yourself.
You can build a profitable business around all the experience you have, so that you can make a greater impact in the world and impact your income.
There's a saying, “if it doesn't make money, it doesn't make sense.” I heard that in a sitcom that I was watching the other day, and when we think about our businesses, we have to think about the money.
In today's episode, we're going to be talking about how to create a solid financial foundation for your online business, or for any business as a matter of fact. It’s important to think about the money. It's important to understand that without income, without revenue, you really don't have a business. You have a very expensive hobby.

My guest today is going to talk to us about the mindset of being an entrepreneur and some spiritual principles that we can apply in order to make sure the foundation for our business is exactly what it needs to be in order to grow a profitable and very successful business.

Personal branding is crucial to cultivating a successful career. Marketing yourself and your career as a brand is more than just about creative business cards or pretty fonts– it’s about how you present yourself to potential clients, customers, and anyone else imperative to your career.
Your brand is an indication of what you have to offer, and can make or break your success. It’s also indicative of confidence, credibility, and an ability to priortize.
In this episode, we will be discussing Tips for Building and Online Personal Brand for Growing Your Career.

Today, marketing is very much about engineering the customer experience. Creativity, once the focal point of creating a marketing campaign, has been superseded by analytics, which in themselves are used to drive creativity.
The new marketing business model is powered by technology and data analysis – and driving engagement, customer experience and revenue is the focus of insightful business outcomes.
There is a term for this type of marketing. That term is called Digital Marketing.
Digital Marketing is an umbrella term for the targeted, measurable, and interactive marketing of products or services using digital technologies to reach and convert leads into customers and retain them.
In this episode I interview Digital Marketing expert Saunder Schroder, Chief Marketing Officer at Disruptive Advertising.
Throughout his career, Schroeder has been able to personally grow half a dozen businesses and have helped grow hundreds of other businesses by creating digital marketing strategies and helping scale two digital marketing agencies.

With more and more females breaking into the world of entrepreneurship, there is one thing that becomes inevitable: more Mompreneurs. Women all around the world are breaking the mould more than ever, taking control of their lives and destiny through the vehicle of entrepreneurship.
Despite what people may think, mompreneurs don’t take their foot off the gas once they’ve had kids - many push even harder, as they know the livelihood of their kids depends on them.
This week I interview on of my favorite mompreneurs, LeShawnda Fitzgerald, Founder of Ready For Spanish.
LeShawnda Fitzgerald is a passionate mother of two, and creative entrepreneur who brings excellence and new vision in all pursuits.
She is a Master Teacher and through her innovativeness she founded Ready For Spanish, a program that enhances children knowledge of the Spanish language and culture.

As a result of her great expertise in various subjects, she has hosted workshops and speaks regularly on topics related to education, entrepreneurship, motherhood and empowerment.
An irony of human life is that we all possess a higher purpose, yet many of us have no idea what it is. Have you ever asked yourself, “What is my purpose here? Am I meant to do more with my life than take care of myself?” So how do you discover your higher purpose?
In this episode, I share an interview I did with speaker and author Robert Kennedy III. After 10 years in the classroom as a science teacher in the state of Massachusetts, he has founded and run several businesses including an online training development firm.
Currently, he speaks and trains organizations on leadership communication and relationship-building.
It takes a dedicated amount of time and energy to build good, strong, lasting business relationships today. They are such an integral and necessary part of success, but people don’t seem to want to put in the work.
In this rewind episode, I interview Jason Treu - Business & Executive Coach.
Jason is a business and executive coach. He's a leading expert on influence, networking and leadership. At the heart of his strategy is the understanding that people and your relationships are your true "wealth."
He works with experts, entrepreneurs and executives helping them build powerful & memorable brands, and connecting them to influencers who can help move their business forward and impact the bottom line.
His bestselling book, Social Wealth, the how-to-guide on building personal and professional relationships, has sold more than 30,000 copies, has been #1 in four business and self-help categories.
One of the best ways to eventually become your own boss is to start a side hustle and build your self-employed income, while you still have the safety and security of your 9 to 5.
What's more is that starting a side hustle can pad your income, & create career-changing opportunities you wouldn't have normally stumbled upon at your full-time job.
Do You Find Your Asking These Questions?
1.“How do I balance my full-time job and my small business?”
2.“How can I learn to THINK like a business owner?”
3.“How do I manage my image while learning the ropes?”
4.“How do I make the most of this position and also plan for the future?”

Each of us is born brilliant. Then we spend the rest of our lives having our brilliance buried by people, circumstances, and experiences.
Eventually, we forget that we ever had genius and special talents, and our brilliance is locked away in a vault deep within. So we settle for who we are, instead of striving for who we were meant to be.
In this episode, I share an interview I did with American speaker, author, life coach and entrepreneur Simon T. Bailey. Bailey is the author of Shift Your Brilliance: Harness the Power of You, INC and Release Your Brilliance: The 4 Steps to Transforming Your Life and Revealing Your Genius to the World.

Over the last 7 years I have been on this entrepreneur journey of learning how to be a true business owner. I actually dipped my toe in 2 years prior, but really got serious about it after being laid off my job in 2014.
Over the years, I have learned a great deal & still learning so much. The last 12 months has had me really evaluating my journey as an entrepreneur, to the point I felt the need to share today's email on the 12 Things I've Learned Transitioning From Employee To Entrepreneurship.
Though there are many more than 12, I wanted to share those lessons on the forefront of my mind.
Have you Googled yourself lately? Take a minute, open a new tab & search for yourself. Do you like what you see?

When is the last time you mentioned how busy you are? Perhaps someone asked you how you were doing and you responded, “Busy.”
Our culture normalizes being constantly on the go. Sometimes, it feels like we’re all competing with one another to see who’s got the most to do and the least time to do it in.
These days, many people seem to have almost an addiction to maintaining a hectic pace. Plenty of people “humble brag“ about their chaotic work schedules and their routines. It’s as if some people are almost defined by their busyness. Many even feel guilty when taking time for leisure to the point that they struggle to be able to relax during their downtime.
In this episode, I share some Red Flags to identify your busyness and 7 tips on How To Become Unbusy.
When opportunity knocks, be prepared to answer the door. Your midlife career crisis could be just the knock into entrepreneurship you need.
Sometimes, however, opportunity doesn’t knock. Sometimes it only whispers. Those fleeting thoughts in the back of your entrepreneurial mind to start your business venture could become a reality, even during challenging times.
In this rewind episode, I interview The Midlife Strategy Coach Katherine Hosie.
Katherine Hosie has been coaching full-time since 2003. She has over 10,000 hours of coaching experience and now works primarily with men in leadership roles that are frankly bored with their life. She supports them in finding a new and exciting direction to which they can devote the second half of their lives.
She has a Master of Science degree in Coaching Psychology from the University of Sydney, and was President of the International Coach Federation, Australasia, leading over 1,300 coaches across two countries.
Katherine is Australian and has lived all around the world. She is now permanently based in the San Francisco Bay Area and works virtually with clients around the world.
You see others who have the things you want money, joy, success and suppose that they were born with special talent or into a family which made these things easy to attain. They are just lucky. What you don t know is that there is a methodology to success.
The key to their success is having an unstoppable mindset. In this rewind episode I talk with Yakinea Marie, Transformational Speaker, Certified Business Coach about How To Be Unstoppable In Life & Business.
Yakinea Marie Duff, a resident of Birmingham, AL, is the Founder and CEO of the I Am Woman Network, LLC a network that empowers businesswomen, entrepreneurs and professionals for economic development.
Yakinea Marie is a Life and Business Catalyst, Transformational Speaker, Author, and Event Collaborator: who plans, organizes, and host educational and coaching forums through workshops, teleseminars, retreats, and conferences to empower business leaders in the marketplace.
As an author she shares her story of pain, failure, power, and hope in her first book “The Strength of a Woman: Born to Turn Pain into Power”, which empowers women to overcome their past, expand their purpose, and explore their potential, while embracing the totality of who they are.
In Oprah Winfrey’s words, “Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” The truth is that everyone has a passion (or more than one)—even if you don’t yet know what it is.
Our purpose here on earth is to discover it. Many people don’t believe that you can turn what you love into a viable business enterprise. You can. In fact, the best businesses are built on passion. It just takes some planning, soul searching, and yes, hard work.
In this rewind episode I interview Teri Harrison, Esq.

“Leadership Development and the cultivation of our next generation of leaders is a worthwhile investment.” - 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
Young people have often been at the forefront of social progress in America. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, for instance, youth worked to desegregate schools, register black voters & protest against systemic oppression.
Today is no different. Young people across the country are improving media representation for people of color, promoting literacy education, speaking out against bullying, and much more.
In this episode of the Maximize Your Brand Podcast, I will be interviewing my friend and brother, Dr. Alex O. Ellis. Dr. Ellis and I will be discussing how leaders today can aid in building the next generation of leaders of tomorrow among Black Americans.

You may have heard the term ‘generational wealth’ and thought, ‘Wow, that sounds important'. But at the same time, you might have pushed it to the back of your mind because you have more pressing issues.
Building generational wealth from scratch isn't easy for anyone. It's especially challenging for Black Americans.
For many Black Americans in the position to build wealth for the first time, guidance and resources usually don't come from previous generations. Therefore, we must rely on each other by hiring people from own communities and investing in each other's businesses.
In today’s episode, the 3rd part of my Black History Month series, I interview Charles Winfrey, President & CEO of The RollOver Co. Charles & I will discuss ways Black Americans can start building wealth for themselves and their kids today.
Charles E. Winfrey is a nationally recognized Financial Educator, Author, Speaker & retirement Planner who has been seen on NBC, ABC, & CBS network affiliate.

Today, building a community around your business is so important. Customers are increasingly making decisions based on alignment with their values.
Purchases now represent a customer's 'vote,' and the brand is a symbol, an extension of the consumer. The internet has created a more level playing field that allows people too easily and quickly research what's out there. Having community allows your brand to break through the noise.
For your business to fully succeed, you need to build a vibrant community that you can tap into for engagement.
Businesses need to build a community in order to promote meaningful engagement with their target audience. From these engagements, you can unearth ideas to help your brand grow, among the many other benefits that online communities provide.
Today, I will be talking to Danielle McGee, Founder of Black Business Boom about building an engaged community around your business.
Danielle McGee is an award-winning small business advocate and certified digital marketer.
In 2019 Danielle launched the Boomin’ Mobile App to expand services and drive more revenue to black-owned businesses.

Through her vision, the Black Business Boom brand has expanded to include Boomin University and Black Owned Nashville, a directory of over 1000 Nashville-based Black owned businesses.
Many business owners will agree that building a legacy is a vital part of their strategy. It forms company ethos, helps build longterm profitability and impacts everything from community and customer behavior to industry and even culture.
During Black History Month, I will be highlighting Black Entrepreneurs and Black Small Business Owners who are creating incredible things and intentionally creating a positive legacy for future generations.

The Time is Now to Stop Waiting and Start Creating Do you have a big dream or goal for your life? Wondering how you’re going to get there or what could get in the way? Chances are, it’s your mindset. There’s one common theme that underpins many theories about living your dream life: your mindset, beliefs and the way you think override everything. In this episode Markeith is going to share some practical tips on How To Shift From Dreaming To Doing & Get Results.
One of the reasons people don't follow through on their resolutions is that change is hard.
Keeping consistent with a new commitment is difficult, and it is just plain easier to not do it. Whether at New Year's or any other time of the year, goal setting is much easier than goal achieving.
So how can we stack the cards in our favor? How can we make it more likely that we will be consistent with the changes we set forth to make and actually see a lasting change in our life?
One of the keys is in the way we think about our goals and the language we use to describe them.
In this episode of Maximize Your Brand Podcast I tackle the subject How To Master Your Mindset To Create Lasting Change, with my guest Marissa Q. Paine of Marissa Q. Paine Int’l.

We will gladly give our time, attention and money to a person who knows what they are talking about. Or, at least thinks they know what they are talking about. However, self-confidence does not come naturally to a lot people.
Self-confidence is the ability to believe and display the attitude that you know what you are doing. The world is a beautiful balance of people who have varying levels of self-confidence.
Where are you on the self-confidence spectrum?

Transformation is crucial to living your dreams. You must rid yourself of mediocrity, and step up your game to a whole new level.
“It's not about being perfect. It’s about effort and when you implement that effort into your life every single day, that's when transformation happens, that's how change occurs. You have to keep going and remember why you started.” - Jillian Michaels
Today, I want to talk to you about the transformed mind. I want to talk to you about the difference between change and transformation. Here is my question for you today, will you settle for change or live a life of transformation?
Purpose! A word we often hear that we sometimes take for granted the idea of really knowing our purpose and why we exist in the Earth.
As a matter of fact, when I started my business, I wanted to identify a quote that would be the foundational reason for starting my business.
I love this particular quote that's all about purpose. I learned it some time ago from the late Dr. Myles Munroe. He states, "The greatest tragedy in life, is a life without purpose, a life without direction. Moreover, life's greatest failure is to be successful at the wrong assignment."
I love that quote, because when I understand the power of purpose, when I understand why is it important for us to align & connect with our purpose, I truly understand why I exist.
I believe it is my purpose to help you align with your purpose, & assist you in uncovering it, so you can live a life of abundance, freedom & great possibility.
This episode is dedicated to helping you to uncover your purpose & your why.
"You can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards. You have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever." - Steve Jobs
Today, in this episode I get to connect the dots I get to connect the dots by looking back to an interview I did 5 years ago, as a guest on Mark Mawhinny's podcast Natural Born Coaches.
Mark provides me an opportunity to share my transition from my 9 to 5 to entrepreneurship.
I look back over the last five years & I get to see that everything I envisioned is happening for myself as a business owner, and as an entrepreneur.
How exciting is it to connect the dots. How exciting is it to look back and say I have the freedom I desired. I'm working for myself. I'm building the business and the income that I truly want, because I was willing to take a step. I was willing to take the leap. I was willing to move forward toward my dream.
I hope that you're inspired and motivated by this interview, which was 5 years ago, but still very relevant today.
Over the past couple of weeks meeting with my clients, there has been a common theme that keeps coming up. That theme is the idea of worthiness, or what we would call many times is Imposter Syndrome.
Most of us experience feelings of doubt and unworthiness at some point in our lives, but when our accomplishments are result of our own knowledge, hard work and preparation and we still feel inadequate or unworthy we're probably suffering from imposter syndrome.
In this episode, I have a heart-to-heart conversation with a new friend, Shawn Doc Boyd all about the Imposter syndrome, as well as, we give you 9 tips that will help you to overcome the Imposter syndrome and starve your self doubt.
What is authority? What is influence? Is Authority and influence the same thing?
My guest today is going to explain to the power of authority and how authority is the most valuable currency you can create for your business & brand.
As I was doing some research for this episode, on this idea of authority & influence, I came across this quote on medium.com that said “The essence of authority is that people willingly follow your lead. People choose to adhere to your words and advice. They want your wisdom.”
Reading that, I can definitely tell that authority is important to growing a business and a brand. In today’s society, there is a great need for true figures of authority — with an elevated perspective, a high attunement to providing value to people they lead.
In this episode I interview, Josh Elledge. Josh Elledge is U.S. Navy veteran who became a serial entrepreneur who builds the companies he needs most in the world.
In 2014, He launched UpMyInfluence to help entrepreneurs like himself attract the perfect audiences and grow their authority and influence.
However, while growing their better-than-PR agency, UpMyInfluence discovered that building 7-figure B2B Sales Systems (with zero paid advertising) is actually what what they do better than anyone else on the planet.
This weeks episode is a reach back episode to a time I interviewed one of my own coaches, when I first began. I was just really getting started creating my brand & business.
In a lot of ways I was still stuck in certain areas of my business, & the best way I knew to get answers was to interview individuals who I knew had persevered through and create highly profitable coaching businesses.
So, what better opportunity than to interview one of my former business coaches, to talk about getting unstuck, getting clear, & getting on purpose.

You need to create a strong personal brand if you want to be considered influential. Your personal brand helps you stand out from everybody else. You can use your personal brand to demonstrate your knowledge and skills about your areas of expertise.
In many ways, your personal brand is what makes you memorable. It is your personal brand that helps you stand out from the thousands of other people like you.
Investing in yourself provides a great return on investment, in a myriad of ways. It can improve your career prospects and help you earn more money. It can build your confidence, which can help you pursue your dreams and opens doors for new opportunities.
It can enrich your life by introducing you to people, ideas, hobbies, and experiences you might have never encountered otherwise. And it will help you create a life that’s more satisfying and balanced.
There’s another good reason why you should spend the time and money investing in yourself: because no one else will. You, and you alone, are in control of your life and career. If you don’t work on learning new skills, enriching your life, and expanding your creativity, then it’s not going to happen.
You can invest in yourself in many different areas, including your physical health, emotional health, career, education, goals, creative pursuits, passions or interests, and relationships. Here are some ideas to help get you started.

However, after the initial hype settles down, we often find it difficult to be consistent and stay in the flow. Eventually, we end up quitting.
Let’s be real, consistency is a struggle for most people.
So many great ideas and initiatives just get buried in the ground forever. So many people who have the potential to achieve so much never make it, only because of the lack of consistency.
In this episode I share, 10 Principles Of Consistency | How To Stay Consistent At Anything In Life

Business relationships are important. The more a customer trusts, likes and interacts with your brand the stronger that relationship becomes.
If it goes well and the business continues to make the customer happy through the quality of service, product and experience then often a business can become “exclusive” where the customer doesn’t even consider other businesses for the things you provide.
Since it is a relationship, there are similarities to dating.
Catch this conversation I had with a business colleague of mine as we talk about How Growing A Business Is Similar To Dating.
