This week on The Collected Podcast we’re kicking off Season 9 with a hope‑filled message about what it means to be made new in Christ. Jes shares the story of how God transformed her heart in 2019 through three powerful Words: freedom from old patterns, the joy of becoming “new wine,” and the slow, beautiful fermenting work of spiritual maturity. She then invites listeners to see how Jesus Himself brings new life through Scripture, from the bleeding woman to Jairus’ daughter. If you’re longing for renewal, encouragement, or a reminder that God is already at work behind the scenes, this episode will meet you tenderly and call you forward into the new life He is forming in you.

This week on The Collected Podcast, Jes revisits the powerful moment in Mark 6 when Jesus walks on water, uncovering how His compassion, His nearness in our storms, and His desire to reshape our hearts still speak to us today. Drawing from the disciples’ exhaustion, their missed miracle after feeding the 5,000, and their fear in the wind and waves, this episode invites listeners to see how Jesus meets us in our own moments of weariness, resistance, and uncertainty. You’ll hear how He reveals His glory, redirects our paths, sometimes through storms, and stays present with us even when we don’t recognize Him. If you’re longing for encouragement, a fresh perspective, or a reminder that God may be moving you from a place of stubbornness to a place of beauty and healing, this conversation will meet you right where you are.

Mark joins Jes for a rich and deeply moving conversation about faith, calling, and courageous discipleship. They explore the themes behind his new novel What Is Left of the Night, a powerful true story of a French village that sheltered Jewish refugees during World War II, opening the door to reflections on courage, pacifism, and the difference between healthy loyalties and the singular allegiance owed to Christ. In this episode, we explore the historical and theological significance of Genesis 1, contrasting the biblical creation account with ancient myths to highlight the beauty, order, and intentionality of God’s design. We reflect on how our view of God shapes our lives, and how Elohim’s character—revealed through creation, covenant, and Psalm 68—offers comfort, strength, and purpose. Whether you’re new to this series or have journeyed with us since El Olam in Season 4, this episode invites you to rediscover your value and identity in the One who formed the universe and still speaks life today.

As she explored miracles in Luke and Acts, she contended for her own, discovering that hope is not found in tidy endings but in God's unwavering presence. From sleepless nights to bathroom-floor prayers, Jenny vulnerably recounts how the Holy Spirit reshaped her thinking, rooted her heart in Christ, and taught her to wait well. This week on The Collected Podcast, Jes is sharing Part 12 of our Names of God series! Over the past few years we have been highlighting different names and character attributes of The Lord. Understanding who God is and who we are in Him are vital parts of walking in freedom and remaining rooting in who we are created to be. This week we are learning about Jehovah Tsidkenu– The Lord Our Righteousness. When God shares this name in Jeremiah 23, the Israelites are in the midst of utter destruction, and yet God provides the hope of a coming savior. Just as the Israelites were helpless to save themselves from captivity in Babylon, so are we unable to save ourselves from our own sin and depravity. God is a righteous God, therefore He demands righteousness from his subjects. Yet, in his great grace and mercy, he provided a way for us to be righteous. The beauty and power of this name is that the perfect righteousness of Jesus is ours, if we only chose to accept it.

Understanding who God is and who we are in Him are vital parts of walking in freedom and remaining rooting in who we are created to be! Today we are circling back to JEHOVAH ROHI. This name highlights The Lord as our loving shepherd. In the Ancient Near East, a good shepherd would endure danger, extreme weather conditions and sleeplessness in order to protect and provide for his sheep. In the same way, God protects us from danger, provides us with nourishments through His Word, stays by our side through times of struggle, and seeks after our hearts when we wander away. This is such a beautiful picture of care and selfless love!

This week Jes is circling back to Part 2 of our Names of God series as we dig deeper into JEHOVAH SHAMMAH, The Lord is There. The first time we see this name in the Bible is in the book of Ezekiel, when the prophet receives a vision of God– Jehovah Shammah– in the New Jerusalem. At this point, the Isrealites have been in captivity in Babylon for 25 years. The temple and city was in ruins, and yet this vision from God was a reminder that God is still there in the city and with His people– even when they are in captivity because of their sin. This name is a powerful reminder to the ancient Israelites that God has NOT forsaken them, He was there with them, and He will be faithful to fulfill His promises. This name is also a powerful reminder to us that wherever we are, whatever our circumstance, God is there. You are not forsaken or forgotten, no matter what you have done! Tune in to learn more!

This week Jes is sharing Part 10 of our Names of God series! We are highlighting different names and character attributes of The Lord, and this week we are learning about Jehovah M’Kaddesh– the Lord who sanctifies, who cleanses, and makes us holy and set apart. This episode is airing right after this year’s celebration of Easter, and I can’t think of a better time to dig into the significance behind this name of God. After all, Jesus lived a perfectly holy life– set apart for a divine purpose. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is what created a way for us to be seen as holy by a Holy God. The episode also discusses the importance of observing the Sabbath as a way to remain rooted in our identity and create a rhythm of rest and refocus.

Welcome to Season Six!! We are so excited to start a new season in the podcast and in life. Tune in to hear an exciting (and long-awaited) life update from Jes, and a message of hope about Jehovah Jireh– God as our Provider, the One Who Sees to It. Jes shares that the very thing that God provides to fulfill our needs is not a thing at all– rather, it’s Himself. We hope you walk away from this episode knowing that you have access to the peace, power and presence of the God of the Universe. He will always provide a way for His promises to be true. He did not promise that life would be easy, but He did promise that He would never leave you nor forsake you.

Scott Erickson is a touring painter, performance speaker, and creative curate who mixes autobiography, mythology, and aesthetics to create art and moments that speak to our deepest experiences. He is the writer and performer of two one man shows. Wrestling with his own professional burnout and clinical depression, “We Are Not Troubled Guests” is a performance story-telling piece in which he navigates the surprising gift of an existential crisis. His current show, “SAY YES: A Liturgy of Not Giving Up On Yourself”, juxtaposes story-teaching, participation, humor, and image curation as Scott walks us through the very personal and universal conversation about the death of a dream and the overwhelming voice of Giving Up in our lives.
He is the co-author of Prayer: Forty Days of Practice and May It Be So, the author of Honest Advent, a Spiritual Director to brave women and men, and a professional dishwasher for his food blogging wife.

Meshali Mitchell (AKA “The wallpaper lady” around here) is a portrait artist, lover of people, and a storyteller. The quality of her work stands alone, known by its immersion in heart and soul. In an unforeseen step of faith, the combination of a deep love for Christ, a heart for restoration, and an eye for creativity led her to purchase an 1886 Farmhouse in May of 2018. During this time, she began to document the restorative process, noticing how closely it paralleled her personal story of restoration--room by room, piece by piece.
