The New Colombo Plan is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake internships in the region.
With thousands of students coming back from the Indo-Pacific, this podcast will be an exhibition of untold transformative anecdotes, nuggets of wisdom and candid dialogue on societal issues.
I will also be featuring talented individuals engaging in the Indo-Pacific!
In part 2, we talk about what it's like working at a startup compared to corporates, what exciting medical technology innovations we will be seeing in the near future and the job market during and after the pandemic.

Entrepreneurship is THE buzz word these days. Start your own business, get crazy rich and have lavish meals every day served on a gold plate. However, the more I explore this subject and speak with others in this space, that thought is so far from reality. The individuals who want to make a change in the world and starting a project because they believe they will make an impact is what really happens. Speaking with Thomas gave me a big sense of what persistence and determination look like. All props to him and his contribution to the wider community both in Australia and overseas.

After my Asia Pacific Youth Exchange program was cancelled due to COVID-19, I suddenly had spare time in Vietnam. I reached out to James via LinkedIn, asked to meet up for a coffee and that is how it all started. He is incredibly smart, insightful and down-to-earth. Thank you for helping me as I navigate my way to begin my scholarship. James is a Vietnam NCP Scholar with incredible stories all over Asia. Part 1 will be about his adventures on his scholarship and an introduction to who he is and what is doing now.

Jordan's story is the perfect example of a comeback. We hear of success and think these people have never failed before. Already at episode 8! I sit down with Brendan Ma and Denny Chen today and speak about the NCP scholarship and journey we would be undertaking right at this moment if it wasn't for the current health situation. Both are extremely smart and successful, who will be entering the investment banking world next year. Naturally, I took the opportunity to sit down with them to speak about millennial finance. Money is a quasi-taboo subject it feels like. For something that is not spoken about openly, it sure is an important part of our lives.

When Michael reached out and asked if he could be a guest on my podcast, I was shocked and grateful. After seven episodes, whether you have watched 5 seconds or every minute of each episode, I am thankful for the support. Michael was open to speaking about different topics and I am grateful for his hospitality and insights into meditation, insecurity and entrepreneurship. What makes us different allows us to exist. When we blindly follow paths carved by expectations, we lose that. With Michael's case, undertaking a journey through different countries and meeting people from all walks of life has allowed him to rediscover who he is.

It was amazing to speak with Won-Hae and Dylan about their New Colombo Plan Scholarship experiences. On one end, Won-Hae supported efforts to rebuild earthquake impact homes in Nepal. The other, Dylan worked on issues in agriculture impacting Papua New Guinea. Both are incredible individuals and I look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future!

In this episode, I sit down with Andrew and Johnny to discuss our journeys going through university and the transition we have or are making entering the workforce. Andrew P. being a prolific networker tells me about his approach and perspective on how to make meaningful and last connections. Johnny shares his challenges searching for a career path, going from working on a farm to now pursuing a career in law. All three of us have Vietnamese ethnicity, growing up in the same part of Sydney, roughly the same time. It was interesting to see how similar but also different our views are. We had to navigate both our traditional Vietnamese culture from our families, as well as Australia's liberal lifestyle.

It has been a minute since I last posted. I sit down (virtually) with Anthony and Jessie, both are New Colombo Plan Scholars from 2019. We reflect on their experiences overseas on scholarship and just taking a moment to look back on their achievements. It's difficult for me sometimes to sit back and look at what I have done in the past year, two years or five years. I hope this video gives people who are interested in applying for international travel for study or work, to know that the intangible learnings of culture and life experience are just as or even more valuable than what you learn at university or job.
