Daily Dose of Relevant Jewish Wisdom Shared by Rabbi Rafi Lipner. You are welcome to read about the genesis of this podcast which is described below, but in short: The goal of this podcast is to provide a daily short but powerful nugget of Jewish wisdom that could be used to inspire and empower our everyday lives. From how we deal with relationships, where we find fufillment, strategies on dealing with life's challenges, or most importantly, how we strive to achieve our greatest aspirations, Judaism has thousands of years of wisdom to inspire how we navigate life. This podcast will share it 5 minutes at a time.
My Dear Friends,
This podcast was borne from an idea I spontaneously had, a challenge, but most importantly an opportunity, inspired by my 2020 New Year’s experience.
On January 1st 2020, the global Jewish community celebrated the 13th Siyum Hashas (Completion of the Talmud which is comprised of 2711 pages of complex and deep discussions as part of the Oral Transmission of Jewish life and philosophy).
As we know, “New Year’s” is seen as a time of resolutions, and this celebration is the culmination of what it means to “commit” to something big, to realize that the way we achieve something big is one day at a time, with not only commitment, but consistency. While “The Daf”, might not be for you (yet), it does remind us that we should all consider as part of our “New Year’s” resolution, a commitment to learn Torah every day.
I am certain that a commitment to making daily learning a priority will change you, change your family, and strengthen your connection to the Jewish people unlike any other commitment.I am certain that a commitment to making daily learning a priority will change you, change your family, and strengthen your connection to the Jewish people unlike any other commitment.
So, I thought of the following idea... While many people might not be able to or interested in committing to the daf, what if we committed to learn together every day for just a few minutes for the next 2711 days, so that when the next cycle of Daf Yomi is completed, all of us could also celebrate that we learned a Torah thought together every day for a consecutive 2711 days as well?
I think that would be awesome, and thought you might as well. After all, Torah belongs to young and old, women and men, right and left… It should be something we come together over.
How would we do this?
I will share an idea every day with those interested on a WhatsApp group (which after 400 people turned into this podcast) and will send out a three-to-seven minute Torah thought for that day that you can easily listen to at your convenience. Ideas shared might span the areas of Jewish philosophy, the Torah portion, holiday insights, or a myriad of other ideas. I will try my best to make it relevant and inspiring. It would be great to have you join us on this journey. The new cycle of the Daf started, Sunday January 5th and will end Monday, June 7th, 2027. Yep, JUNE 7, 2027. That is a long ways away... but the only way to get there is one day at a time. As they say, "the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step."
It would be an honour to share the challenge with you.If you are interested, please follow along on your favourite podcast player or email me at ravlipner@gmail to add you to the whatsapp group.Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts, and you are definitely welcome to forward this to whomever else you think might be interested.
Warmly,
Rabbi Rafi****

Humbling to think that there are people who literarily stood up to evil and were willing to endanger their lives and that of their family, in order to save one of ours!
Think about the type of people we call heroes today, and these people. You decide.
"When it was hard to be a Jew, people stayed Jewish. When it became easy to be a Jew, people stopped being Jewish."
“Religion has done harm. But the cure of bad religion is good religion, not no religion, just as the cure of bad science is good science, not the abandonment of science.”
“The only people capable of threatening the future of the Jewish people are the Jewish people.”
“Non-Jews respect Jews who respect Judaism, and they are embarrassed by Jews who are embarrassed by Judaism.”

Will try a little extra bonus thought for you to think about: In our analogy of putting together a puzzle, it's interesting to note that the puzzle comes with all of the pieces necessary to complete the picture you want....

I just wanted to write a little note: Like I said in the podcast, there are so many layers of depth to this story, so if you have further questions, feel free to email me. The stories, especially in bereshit, are often given the description of "Ma'ase Avot Siman Lbanim" - that what happens to our forethers and mothers are fortelling as signs and models for what their children will experience for generations.
This entire battle, which really lasts for only a few verses, unpacks a lot of information about struggle. Why did it happen when Yaakov was alone? Why was it at Night? What did he get hit in the leg, as opposed to elsewhere? Why when he asked for the angel's name, he woudln't give it to him.....
There is a lot... just wanted to make sure we know that. :)
Incase you want to hear the "Zaidy" song. It's an old original recording...but everytime I hear it, it tugs at my neshama... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrZJcqDiyjk
...and yes, that is a picture of me and my Zaidy!

LETTER DRAFT
Dear ….
I am reaching out to share with you something that I believe you will greatly enjoy and benefit from, because I know that I have.
Over the past several months (311 days to be exact) I have been listening to a short daily podcast given by Rabbi Rafi Lipner. It is short enough that I can always handle it- only 4-5 minutes on average, and yet at the same time, I am amazed by how it often contains so much inspiration and relevance that can literally infuse the rest of my day with greater satisfaction and meaning, and I often find myself recalling ideas and drawing value in my life long after having listened to the podcasts.
To be honest, I am actually amazed by how impacted I am by the wisdom that Jewish thought and tradition has. I find these podcasts make it so accessible, while also exposing me to a whole range of different ideas, all with the goal of providing greater joy, perspective, fulfillment and meaning in my life.
I invite you to listen to today’s podcast, in which he really described the purpose of the entire podcast project he is on. CLICK HERE
I am also happy to suggest a few other personal favourites of mine if you are interested.
As someone who knows you, I would highly recommend you join me on this daily journey. I cannot adequately describe the impact.

Judaism is ALL about asking the right questions. So you have to learn how and when to ask this one. This one question could honestly, change everything! Enjoy. And as always love to hear any feedback or see where you have taken any of the ideas shared - it keeps inspiring me to hear what people do with it. Can't believe today is 250 consecutive days!

Good afternoon, and hope you had a great day so far, and that your Shabbos prep is going well!
As we said, every Erev Shabbos, I will share something from the weekly Torah portion that we can learn from and share with others. This week’s Parsha is Parshat Bo...so let’s catch us up on the context.
This portion has the final 3 Makos/plagues, and then the Exodus of the Jewish people as they leave behind 210 years of slavery and persecution on their way to pick up the Torah and go to the promised land.
As they get ready to go, God decides “as it were” that he wants to take this first opportunity to share an opening mitzvah with them. Get the ball rolling and frame the Jewish experience and what it is all about.
Now, I don’t know off by heart all of the 613 mitzvos that we have…but I do know a bunch of them, and therefore would ask you to think of the answer to the following question.
If you were God, and had to throw one out there to start…what would it be? Remember, you have 613 to choose from.
So personally, I would think maybe it should be saying the Shema to reaffirm our belief in God who is about to take us out of Egypt, or about “chesed” acts of kindness and to dedicate your life to kindness, not like the Egyptians, or maybe about or maybe it is Shabbos because it is so key to a strong Jewish identity, I am sure you can think of a few more yourself as well, maybe even some better suggestions. But one thing forsure, you should open with something strong, inspirational, and core for us to know as a Jewish people.
Basically, I imagine it unfolding like this. God is gets up infront of the 2,000,000 Men women and children and steps up to the mic. “okay, is this thing on. Great. Hey Jews, we are getting out of Egypt after all these years. And I’ve got big plans for us, and lots of great commandments that are aimed at infusing meaning, molding great characters, deepening spirituality, and inspiring lives….i’ll share them all with you in 49 days when we get to Sinai,…but let me leave you with one for now, so you see what I mean.
So what does God choose to give over as the first mitzvah. Chapter 12 verse 2 reads
This month shall mark for you the beginning of the months; it shall be the first of the months of the year for you.
Basically in short God is saying “lets set up a monthly calendar – wouldn’t that be great! Yes there is more detail to it than that, like how we follow the moon and not the sun – and yes there is a deep reason for why Jews are lunar focused and not solar.” But in general, God is basically kicking off his mission for the Jewish people by introducing the calendar.
Seems a little technical, I was hoping for something a little more aspirational.
But at the same time, I kind of have faith in God that he knows what He is talking about.
What’s up with G-d’s choice? So one of the most profound answers I saw, brought down by the Seforno, a 16th century commentator, is that God isn’t simply telling us how to keep time, but more so that we must “VALUE” Time.
Set up a system to count, track and monitor time. Our greatest commodity in life and our greatest expression of freedom that we have is how we use our time. The ability to express our freedom lies in our ability to control how we spend our time, and the success of life is dependent on how well we use it.
We should never use words like “kill time” or time is money. But rather time is simply life. So the more meaningfully you use your time, the more meaningfully you live your life. Yes we all need breaks and down time…but I am not sure if any of us will look back proudly on the binge watch fests we had or the amount of candy crush we played…
As we know, there is no commodity that is as valuable and yet as fleeting as time; a c
