A Pharisee and a tax collector both go to pray... who leaves justified in the eyes of God?
Forgiveness is tough! But, it is a part of loving someone. We have to get good at this!
We are not, and cannot become, God's equals. That has never been His plan, and we must understand this as we come to Him to receive grace, mercy and freedom.
God calls us not to be a part of our culture, but to help set and build a new culture by demonstrating within the church how to treat each other.
It is not just that there is "light" or that God's word is our light... Jesus takes it up a notch and tells us that WE are the light! This is a beautiful opportunity and a grave responsibility. We have a lot to live up to!
What does Jesus mean when he says "Acknowledge me before men"? Is that a passive command or an active one?
Acts 2 - The church did some simple things. We should be thinking about and focusing on those simple things as well. Keep it simple!
Acts 2 - The church kept it simple because all they were about was Jesus. Couldn't we get back to those "good old days" today?!?!? Shouldn't we???
How does loving God and loving people go together? Jesus in Matt 22 links these 2 things together...
Romans 1:8-13 - Mutually encouraged and lifted up by the sharing of spiritual "gifts". This should still be happening today!
What does God expect of His people? Does someone acting in an unkind manner toward us allow us to "give as we good as we get" back to them? In I Peter 3, Peter the apostle lays out a different expectation for God's holy people.
I Peter 2. Peter tells the church to consider how God sees them... and why the world often rejects them, just as the world rejected Christ. But we are a "chosen people" and a "royal priesthood". We need to always "Remember who we are" as we are designed by the Master!
I Peter 1 - What are we leaving behind for those we love? Are we leaving them something spiritual that will endure? Or are we just leaving them with some really nice "stuff"?
What did Jesus mean when he said, "On THIS ROCK I will build my church?" Was he talking about Peter, or something else?
We can often allow ourselves to be defined as a VICTIM because it is easier than living as a VICTOR. Joseph could have lived as a victim, but realized his life was under the control of God, and so he lived as a victor. We should take courage and choose to live this way as well.
A continuation of Joseph's story... how do you keep going when you don't see things turning out right? Joseph had to figure that out - and so do we!
