Freed 2 Love Podcast: Recent Episodes

Stephanie McNeal

Once upon a time there was an angry woman. Every day she was scrutinized, ridiculed, harassed, and dismissed because of her emotional pain. One day she discovered that she wasn’t really angry but hurt, misunderstood, falsely depicted, and stereotyped. Because of this, she gave off false impressions, and the men in her life were left with the wrong ideas, they mistrusted her and were aggravated. As a result, her children and her family suffered until the woman was finally freed to love. Freed to love God. Freed to love herself. Freed to love her family and everyone else. She is able to obtain her freedom by simply embracing truth and simply letting go. Put simply - Freed to Forgive!Learning how to let it go. “It” could be a plethora of things - trauma, unforgiveness, blame, victimhood, etc. The freed part is about letting go of what is not yours and reclaiming your new! This is what the Freed 2 Love Podcast is about. The overarching goal is to promote understanding between men and women, facilitating reconciliation by harnessing the power of the woman’s influence. By discussing previously taboo topics and secret subjects such as infidelity, mental and emotional abuse, power, control and other topics that affect our mental and emotional health, we will identify and expose possible roots and entry points of issues that dramatically affect our communities. The aim is to destroy stereotypes and promote understanding and compassion. Each episode will explore the complexities of life in America. The hope is to help women realize their power and encourage them to use that power to heal their communities. We will address the woman holistically including ways to strengthen your body, spirit, and soul. When women are able to break free from these hindrances/encumbrances, you will be freed to love and be whole. Breaking free is the goal to create awareness and provide a vehicle for listeners to see yourselves. Every person will have their own journey and every podcast is a catalyst for you to speak your truth and tell your story.

Have you ever had a moment where a simple social media post triggered a powerful realization about yourself? That's exactly what happened to me while writing a Mother's Day post and through this vulnerability, I discovered the impact of unhealed pain on my success. Join me in this heartfelt episode as we explore the concept of triggers as indicator lights for unhealed pain in our lives and how childhood experiences can be a source of these triggers.

It's time we take ownership of our healing process by questioning what we can learn from our triggers instead of asking 'why.' Together, let's recognize and accept ourselves as anointed and successful individuals, breaking free from self-destructive behaviors and finding the courage to grow. But how can we overcome these negative habits and self-destructive behaviors?

One of the most effective ways to break free is by utilizing powerful tools, such as my Freed to Love Masterclass. This transformative experience can help you gain the tools and mindset to break free from limiting beliefs, embrace personal growth, and achieve success.

Listen in as I talk to Danita Lynne.  Danita Lynne is a transformational coach, author of The Other Side of Unforgiveness, speaker and encourager.  She grew up an only child to parents of the silent generation and her mother taught her to always look her best.  She shares her very transparent story of one of the lowest moments when she discovered her husband’s infidelity and confronted him at another woman’s house.  She also shares her process of forgiving him and the tender moment they shared at his fathers funeral.

After her faith was shaken to the core, Danita Lynne shows us how she made a plan and followed the steps to forgive.  She says we believe God to fix this (our marriages), but instead she admonishes us to BELIEVE GOD and surrender.  You will want to listen all the way to the end where we share how to break down a stronghold so you can use it to break free too!

Listen in as I talk to Dr. LaTanya Moore who was raised by a single mom in North Carolina. Since she was in the eighth grade, she knew she wanted to be a therapist as a social worker who helped to care for her brother planted a seed in her heart. She believes that the soul, mind, spirit and body go together and she works with others to help them to strengthen their relationship with God.

Dr. Moore didn't know that she needed forgiveness until she was in graduate school. As a part of the requirements to become a therapist, she had to get a therapist. She had no idea that she had any issues with her dad who was not present much in her upbringing. However, through therapy, she discovered that she was harboring unforgiveness. It was only after she began to talk about it that she realized that she had been numbing her feelings. And just as a song by Aliyah talks about writing a four-page letter, she wrote a four-page letter to her dad who was behind bars. This became the catalyst for them repairing their relationship.

Being that she did not grow up with a father, she felt like she couldn't trust her Heavenly Father. She always prided herself on being independent and one day she asked God to show her herself. He showed her how she manufactured things for herself instead of submitting to Him. She discovered that living faith by someone else's faith won't cut it. Now God has transformed her life to the point that her desire is to carry the presence of God and help others to do the same.

Listen in on this real and raw conversation I had with Denise Ford, founder of Ford Christian Academy, Camp Summer Quest, and Academic Support Services.  Married for 36 years, she and her husband raised their 10 children in St. Petersburg, Florida.  This Mom homeschooled her children who grew up to be engineers, architects, NBA players, entrepreneurs among other careers.  She believes that if you give children the skill set, they have what they need to be successful.

In this conversation, Denise confronts 'western Christianity' and she calls out racism as being white supremacy.  Denise grew up in an affluent home in which love was nurtured and education was paramount.  Its from this vantage point that she raised her children although her present experience was from that of one income.

Denise passionately discusses the George Floyd incident and calls out former friends who did not support BLM or empowering disadvantaged people.   She encourages us to not give up until we take our last breath and ends the interview with a powerful prayer asking God to heal our land.

Crystal very transparently shares her struggles to forgive herself following an abortion. "Whatever you hide, guilt grows" and she recognized that her unforgiveness towards herself was hindering her calling. However, after having her heart broken by two different men, she was able to receive the Love of God through Jesus Christ and let go of the guilt and shame caused by sexual abuse and abortion. Now, she shares her calling and her story to help uplift others.

Listen in as I speak to Denise Taylor, author, speaker, corporate professional and Founder of The First Wives Club which exists to develop a community for wives to be able to be supported and connect.  She was watching her talented beautiful, professionally proven, strong friends  struggle in their marriages.  She soon came to the realization that there was a need for authentic support .  So, she decided to first open her home to a circle of married women to simply connect and the response was favorable.  Presently, the reach is both nationwide and internationally.

Married for 26 years to her college sweetheart and growing up in Dayton, OH, Denise flirted with sex and drugs because of the pain she felt after sexual abuse, being teased about her dark skin color and craving the attention of both of her parents.  She shares how those things affected her and how she transformed all those obstacles to ultimately forgive her offender.

She triumphantly shares one of her favorite quotes, "My baggage is not designer bags" and despite her many professional achievements, they all pale in comparison to her role as Chuck Taylor’s wife and Chanise and  Ciera Taylor’s mom.  The Taylors reside in Charlotte, NC.

Join me in this very transparent story of me speaking my truth as I utilize my P.R.E.S.S. mindset  (Submission) of The Mindset of Freedom.  It is a mindset that you need to adopt to live a lifestyle of freedom through forgiveness.  I share how God prompted me to cease communication with a dear male friend for no apparent (to me) reason and how I processed that decision.

I share how my story relates to Abraham's story of obedience and trusting God, the only one who is completely trustworthy.  I also share the steps to grieve and make peace with obeying God when you don't know the reason.

The first interview of Season 4 is fire! Listen in as I speak to Jennifer Bell, a former elementary school principal who always told herself that when the joy of what she was doing was gone, she’ll do something else. One day, in her school’s parking lot she cried because she didn’t want to go into the building. She was tired of being exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally and having no time freedom. Giving the BEST of herself to her job, and family getting the leftovers. SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE…and it did! She chose FAITH over FEAR, resigned from her job and started focusing on creating options. Now she is a podcast host, speaker and servant of women.

Jennifer authentically and transparently shares her story of breaking a 40-year silence and secret that literally has mushroomed her life and she is poised to finally become all that God wants her to be.

She shares that although she grew up in a two-parent household and raised in the church - something happened in her childhood that silenced her and made her feel unseen.

This story is for any woman, but particularly Christian women, who have been told all their lives that they just need to put it under the blood and pray about it, all the while masking pain and suffering from the shame of what happened.

She also shares that even though she had the loving support of her husband, her life didn't change until she was watching the R Kelly documentary and it finally convinced her that she needed help.

It helped her realize that even with her background of being a school administrator, all those titles did not heal her. She also discovered how holding her secret negatively affected her relationship with her children. She realized that she had to forgive not just with her lips, but from her heart. God, through therapy, did surgery on her from the inside and allowed her to heal so that she could get beauty for her ashes. Now she shows up how God sees her.

Jennifer’s story will give you courage to heal so that you can tell your story and be all that God has for you too!

Keturah Rosato is a mental health practitioner, faith based women’s empowerment expert, and founder of Momentum Woman, a movement that helps women discover and activate their potential so they can create a beautiful life from the inside out.

At the core of our rich conversation was the fact that racism and its affects on a person has to do with identity.  She also has a very insightful definition of racism and has a unique perspective on the topic as she is married to a white man.

She also explains how she was the first person to be racist against herself and how we can avoid putting ourselves in difficult positions in terms of race.

Hear her answer to my question when I ask her if her attraction to white men have anything to do with her upbringing in St. Lucia.

Listen in as I chat with 21-year-old Jael Kerandi, a senior majoring in finance and marketing at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, the city that caught the attention of the world when protesters took to the streets to demand justice for George Floyd who was killed by police on May 25 — approximately 15 minutes away from the University of Minnesota’s campus.

I first learned about Jael's letter on Instagram via her roommate. The demand for action in 24 hours is what caught my eye. Jael wrote a passionate letter to university president Joan Gabel calling for the university to completely terminate its relationship with Minneapolis Police Department.

“The Minneapolis Police Department has repeatedly demonstrated with their actions that Black bodies are expendable to them,” Kerandi wrote. “This is a norm that we have been desensitized to due to its frequency. Black people have been killed by the Minneapolis Police Department at 13.2 times the rate of white people. It is disgusting and it is unacceptable. A part of the Twin Cities campus is embedded within the confines of Minneapolis and students often are under the jurisdiction of the Minneapolis Police Department, a dubious status for any person of color. MPD has continually shown disregard for the welfare and rights of people of color on our campus.” She signed the letter, “With deep loss, disgust, and exhaustion, Jael Kerandi, a Black woman. The Undergraduate Student Body President.”

Kerandi gave Gabel and the university 24 hours to respond to her request. The next day, Gabel responded with a letter of her own—saying the University of Minnesota would stop contracting with MPD for support during large campus events or for specialized services.

This swift action, in my opinion is what I believe reignited the Black Lives Matter movement and its spread across the world. This was definitely different and people took notice because we could not deny or ignore any longer since we were all sheltering-at-home and watching.

"It's been a long time comin', but I know, I know, a change gon come"

I wept bitterly after reading the Facebook post of Lauren Parlette. (https://www.facebook.com/8911483/posts/10102920406254340/?extid=v4pbEwnetTjN9GwM&d=n)

For years, as a Christian, I’d been hurt by some white Christians.  I could never understand why and how I was treated differently because I was taught that as far as identity is concerned, you are Christian first and your racial identity second.

Well, I came to EXPERIENCE that that is true EXCEPT when you’re black.  It hurt deeply because I know that way is not acceptable in Gods eyes.

My white sister in Christ, Lauren Nicole Parlette healed a part of my heart by her words in her post.  HEALED ME!

They are words that I’ve said.  Things I’ve thought.  Issues I’ve grappled with.  Confusion that I’ve experienced, she articulated.

There is a reason Lauren feels the way she does and the point of view she has.  Listen in to discover.

She admonishes us that we must not be afraid to allow things to change and just as slavery had negative effects on us, white supremacy has had negative effects on white people. Lastly, she shares that we must forgive to live from a whole space otherwise it leaves a hole in your heart.

Listen in as we go from Black Power of the 70s to Black Lives Matter of 2020 as Mrs. Barbara Sorey-Love, self proclaimed historian of her family, shares the importance of remembering our history and the stories passed down from generations.  She also mentions some other subtle racist words and off hand comments and the importance of having loving parents which helped her to combat the hate of racism.

She shares the resurgence of racism in 2020 being played out with the lost cemeteries and how modern buildings and construction were built on top of them and what is being doing now.

An eye opening moment in the episode was when I was moved to compassion and nearly tears as Barbara described how Donald Trump was treated as a child and the trauma that he suffered.  And we need to pray for the reporters and media on the front line.

Season 3 ~ Conversations About Racism and Religion continues as I talk to Shae Bynes who is a passionate storyteller, bridge builder, and strategist who ignites and equips leaders to be catalysts for transformation in their spheres of influence. Shae co-founded the Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur movement in 2012 and her most popular book Grace Over Grind: How Grace Will Take Your Business Where Grinding Can’t is shifting the way people live, work, and engage the world around them.

Shae's work was influential in me starting this podcast in January 2019.  During this episode some of the things we talk about are  how one can care deeply about black babies inside the womb without despising a focus and work for black lives outside of the womb, her definition of mental myopia which is seeing people and situations through an “all or nothing” lens instead of Heaven’s (Kingdom) lens and her latest work surrounding #KingdomOverEverything and how God has uniquely positioned her to make an impact for racial reconciliation.

Join me as I talk with Amos Johnson Jr, PhD who leads and pastors the Church for Entrepreneurs in our Season 3 series - Conversations About Racism and Religion. One of the most intriguing points that he makes is that the "Church" created racism and the Church is going to have to provide the solution. One of the longest episodes so far, but so rich in concepts and thoughts. To summarize the major points in this episode, we talked about:

  • What it will take for National Forgiveness of racism
  • Forgiveness is one-sided
  • Church reconciliation
  • White Christians and the American flag
  • The American dichotomy
  • An explanation of Donald Trump

And so many more nuggets as he encourages us to stop being surprised by racism and what Black people need to do to achieve prosperity and what is holding up that prosperity.

Amos Johnson Jr, PhD leads and pastors Church for Entrepreneurs. God has given him a calling to help believers succeed at their calling. He believes a fulfilled life comes from clearly knowing what God has called you to do and doing it. Church for Entrepreneurs is a church without walls that equips believers across the world to succeed at their God-given entrepreneurial calling by teaching them the Word of God from an entrepreneurial perspective, providing them with godly counsel along their entrepreneurial journey, and praying for their success.

In the Season 3 Opening Episode, I kickoff it off with my take on race, race relations, racism, Christianity, The Church and what is at stake in America and more specifically what's at stake for Black people. I feel like The Souls of Black People are in jeopardy right now and I discuss my reasons for my position.

I talk about my own personal experiences with racism, how I grew up and how my parents shaped my thinking. I also discuss my deliverance from prejudice by watching a television Pastor and my struggles and experiences with white Christians.I make a case for why forgiveness needs to be a part of the conversation and 4 Steps that need to be taken for reconciliation. Throw in the points and positions of white Christians as it relates to Donald Trump, the "greatness" of America paradox of with its corruption and slavery and I believe that you will be challenged and encouraged so you can keep your sanity and stay the course for your life.

Season 3 of The Freed 2 Love Podcast is ALL ABOUT RACE, RACE RELATIONS, RACISM, CHRISTIANITY AND THE CHURCH. I’ve titled this season - Conversations about Racism and Religion. It is the intersection of race and religion and the goal this season is to impact the macro by changing the micro. What I mean by this is I want to change the world by changing people - one conversation at a time.

Some of you are new to my podcast, so I want to share with you what it is all about. The Freed 2 Love Podcast is a place where women share their stories and their truth. Its a safe space where they can be heard, celebrated and have real conversations that act as a catalyst for courage, strength and growth so they can break through their past and live a life of freedom through forgiveness.

Previous seasons have tackled uncomfortable conversations about adultery and sexual abuse. And this season is no different. We are covering the very hot topic of Race this season, but the angle is a little different. I am a Forgiveness Coach and I help women go from heartbreak to happy so they grow as women and have the POWER AND PASSION to be freed to love, however, in this season, I’m being called to expand to hear stories from both men and women. And to talk about the taboo subject of FORGIVENESS, RACISM AND RECONCILIATION.

Sometimes when people think of prayer, they think it’s way more than it has to be.  They think it is this big elaborate speech in a particular place at a particular time. Perseverance separates the winners from the losers in not only sports but life.  Continuing to explore my foundational principle of P.R.E.S.S., in this episode I am discussing perseverance.  I am answering the question of what makes some people able to keep pressing to completion to the end while others habitually give up, quit or don't follow through.

Research has proved that the game changer is dopamine.   Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, is the fuel that keeps people motivated to persevere and achieve a goal. It plays a major role in the motivational component of reward-motivated behavior.

Creating a steady flow of dopamine is primary to creating a habit of perseverance.  And it is not something reserved for a few--it is available to you!

It is important to P.R.E.S.S. to have a:

  • Forgiveness Mindset
  • Success

Stephanie also introduces the concept of a forgiveness mindset and its importance.  A forgiveness mindset enables you to release toxic thoughts of anger, resentment, bitterness, shame, grief, regret, guilt, and hate. We often think about grief, pain and loss as something you want to avoid at all costs.  This is true.  However, you as a person in this human experience cannot avoid suffering or pain.  In this episode, I share my personal journey of grief and forgiveness following 3 major losses for me this year.  The finality of my divorce, my Spiritual Mothers death and the death of my dear Mama.

I share a transparent moment in which I reveal the fact that I, as a Forgiveness Coach, had not forgiven my ex-husband.

I also share the beauty of forgiveness and the blessings it brings not only to your life, but to your future life.

I mentioned the upcoming launch of the Freed 2 Love Bootcamp.  Learn more by going to freed2loveme.com.

In this episode we breakdown Tray Kearney's Story of the It's Healing Time and #nosidechicking Movement.  She is a Healthy Love Coach, Two time Author, Speaker and Certified Life Coach.  As she puts it, “she deals with matters of the heart”.  She has a talk show - Coffee With T that broadcasts regularly.

Listen as we talk about the dangers of hiding secrets and why you should not depend on friends when you are in trouble or have hardships.  We also talk about generational patterns and triggers and how your children may be 'catching' what you're doing, but not necessarily what you are saying.

I share some truth bombs as I reveal some residue that I need to clear.  Another eye opening moment was when we encouraged parents who've made mistakes to 'take your journey off of your children's backs' as Tray articulated it.

Tray Kearney is an Author, Entrepreneur, Certified Life Coach, Motivational Speaker and the creator and host of the Woman to Woman Show. Her most important title is “Woman of God.” Several years ago Tray decided to share her story of heartache and pain. This included infidelity and she does not deny that she has been the offender.

One of her favorite lines is “I am not judging you, I used to be you.” (referring to sidechicks) As she healed, she grew. Now her mission is to help women through the steps of healing through conferences, radio, blogs, television and coaching. She hosts an open platform that addresses women who have been hurt from many issues, but the biggest topic is being hurt as a result of infidelity and how to snatch back your life.

In this episode, Tray not only has two a ha moments of her own, she shares that she is not mad at sidechicks. (as some on the surface followers may believe). She explains that when you grow up in dysfunction, you get confused about what is normal. Further, self-awareness causes you to be accountable. You are who you are based on your choices. And, you know if you are growing if you are changing.

Tray also talks about how when a mother commits adultery, it affects the children. One of the lessons that infidelity taught her is the importance of honesty and transparency especially with her children. The fact that she has had those hard conversations, her son can have his own journey because she took her journey off his back.

Join Zaneta Ellison, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Stephanie McNeal, Forgiveness Catalyst as we break down Kiera's Story "Perfect Family No More".  Kiera is a 23-year-old millennial who is working hard to live her best life.

In this episode we talk about the steps to minimize divorce trauma for children, compulsive self-reliance and emotional regulation.  We discuss how children are 'silent audiences' when turmoil occurs in a marriage especially when parents think children don't know what is going on.

Listen in as Zaneta encourages us to be authentic and transparent because hiding, pushing down or denying our feelings can make us have low self esteem and/or depression.  We discovered that the truth can hurt, but ultimately it heals.  Also, that it is important that children maintain boundaries within their own lives and be careful not to own their parents problems.
