When Christ rose from the dead, everything changed. The world could not go back to the way things were. And for the people of God, there was a fundamental change in our relationship with God- we received a family. We received our creator back. We received God as Father, as Dad! Every good story has a hero. When it comes to the Bible, the true story, who's the hero? And when the going gets tough, do we remember who the real hero is? Do we believe the hero? If we trust Jesus, and God is our Heavenly Father, we want to do what’s right. We want to walk with him. But we need resources to obey God. The question is: does God provide them? Of course he does! Or would you know when you opened it up? When Jesus began to gather followers, some saw the treasure right off the bat. Others needed some convincing. When we look around the world it seems everyone "follows" someone. And for others, they are drawing people to "follow them". But now that the Son of God has shown up, will people follow him? Everyone has a story. And our lives tell a story. Whose story do they tell? Ours or Christ's? Join York EFC as we continue our “Life in His Name series” in the Gospel of John, where we are introduced to the story of another John, called “the baptist”, whose story is not so much John’s but Jesus’.
God loves beginnings. When God created the world, he spoke, and there was light. When God rescued the world, he came down, he spoke, and he brought Light. As we continue in our series “Life in His Name,” the apostle John introduces us to this book, and the main character- God himself. And in reading this passage, Lord-willing, we’ll come away with the same conclusion- he can be believed.

Beginning a new series through the Gospel of John, please join Pastor Aaron Fesenmeyer and York EFC as we unpack why the apostle John, that "beloved apostle", wrote what he did. What is believing? What or who ought to be the object of our believing? And where does our life come from? Have we been getting it from the wrong place or person? Let's see what God, who sent the Lord Jesus Christ, has to say.
If you were asked, what's the one thing in your life that drives everything else? What is it in your life that shapes you, that shapes what you do, and why you do it? Does that thing line up with what God says ought to be the one thing? Well, we don't really need to guess as to what God says is that one thing, that thing "of first importance". He gives it through the apostle Paul near the end of a letter to the Corinthian church, and it has been presevered for us to see, know, and believe today. Peace. It seems a word that's very far off or describing an impossible idea these days. Prince of Peace. It almost seems like a dream, doesn’t it? But here it is in Isaiah, almost a thousand years before Jesus was born, the promise of peace. And today, we can have peace because the Prince of Peace came, and he has begun to reign. But in Israel, and in our day, there is darkness because of rejecting God, the giver of good things, and his good things become our "god-things". Our gods of “packages, boxes, and bags”, feasts of food, picturesque family, a restful holiday season, all of them will not ultimately satisfy. We’re doomed if we stay in darkness, and in Scripture, and across the whole of human history, it has been shown that we cannot get ourselves out of it. What is it that we need?
