Why are electric vehicles sales not surging faster, as predicted? “Range anxiety” – the concern that the EV will not have sufficient range on longer trips or be able to make it to a charging station – is often listed as a top reason for hesitation. Jacki shares the latest: The American Automobile Association (AAA) confirms that an electric vehicle range can fall nearly 25% when carrying a significant weight load. Combine this with the loss of up to 35% of range in colder weather (Recurrent Research, Dec. 2022) and we begin to see why “range anxiety” is a well-founded concern for those Americans wealthy enough to afford an electric vehicle. - - - - - Update: Whales continue to wash up along the eastern seaboard. Can carbon capture technology moot the climate debate? Jacki is joined by Jason Isaac, Director of Life:Powered, a national initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, who shares why his group is opposed to carbon capture technology. Though it focuses on home-produced American energy (coal and natural gas), Isaac claims that requiring carbon capture would force many of the country’s most reliable energy producers out of business at a time when our fragile electric grid needs them the most. Also, he explains why it would not impact the climate meaningfully. - - - - - James O’Keefe released an explosive undercover video featuring an employee of the world’s largest money manager that champions ESG (financing contingent upon wokeness scores for corporations or investments). Supposedly, ESG exists to make the world a better place through emphasizing Environmental, Social Justice, and ethical Governance standards. What were the confessions from this employee of the money manager? (1) Banks rule the world; (2) war is good for business (“we don’t want the conflict to end”); and (3) a U.S. Senator can be bought for the bottom basement low price of only $10,000.00. Suddenly, the news of BlackRock as a contender for a ½ trillion-dollar Ukraine rebuilding deal looks very different. Jacki gives her take.
RKF Jr. is a complex man. One day he is writing an op-Ed in the WSJ to fight against a “boondoggle” offshore wind farm in Nantucket and flying private jets. The next he might be fighting against fossil fuels and nuclear energy – over 90% of American energy!...And our only means for manufacturing electronics, pharmaceuticals, and all that we need for modern sanitation. We examine his record. Jacki concludes that if a Republican wins the White House, they should offer to make RFK Jr. the “Pharma Tzar,” where his energies can be channeled productively. - - - - - Cable news is dominated by an historic indictment. From the commentary, one gets the impression that the talking heads do not know the difference between an indictment and a conviction. Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman joins Jacki to explain what an indictment is, what it isn’t, and why an indicted person is still presumed innocent until proven guilty. Few realize that indictments happen behind closed doors with no opportunity for a defendant to be present, to mount a defense, to call witnesses, or to cross-examine hostile witnesses. As in the case of TX Attorney General Ken Paxton, some states allow prosecutors to call one grand jury after another until they finally find one that will indict. There is no requirement to prove crime beyond a reasonable doubt, but only that there is a 50.01% probability that a crime occurred. Tolman agrees with Jacki that this is the fairness equivalent of having an ex-spouse invited to fire away before a grand jury with one side of the story, with a team of prosecutors and investigators to assist and no ability for the accused to counter. With over twenty years’ experience as a state and federal prosecutor, Tolman shares real life experiences. He serves as Executive Director of the national Right on Crime Initiative at TPPF, where he offers policy solutions for reforming the criminal justice system. - - - - - Elon Musk refers to ESG (“Environmental, Social and Governance”) wokeness scores for corporations as “The Devil” after more than one tobacco company received sky high ESG scores and Tesla scored near the bottom. (See the June 7 episode of The Jacki Daily Show in which we learn why a low Tesla ESG score might actually make sense, assuming child or slave labor is a factor). We take a look at several new studies proving out that when an investor or corporation puts political causes above returns…this results in …lower returns.
Canadian wildfires by numbers: Important context for the ongoing, raging fires from The North Country. Caution: The type of air pollution caused by wildfires (particulate matter or “PM”) is serious, particularly for the vulnerable with cardio/pulmonary issues. The World Health Organization claims it kills millions annually...unlike carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas, but not a pollutant. - - - - - Will American taxpayers continue to hemorrhage hundreds of billions to big business and foreign corporations to convert the country to wind / solar energy - that produce power only 30% of the time? Texas “leads” the country in renewable (unreliable) energy but just threw on the proverbial emergency break. Texas just moved to cut its renewable mandates, the many billions of taxpayer funds given as freebies to prop up the renewable CREZ Initiative (power lines/distribution) developers and will even mandate that wind and solar provide reliable, fossil fuel backup to meet demand during the 70% of the time when they do not produce. Dr. Brent Bennett at Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Life:Powered Initiative gives the update. - - - - -RFK Jr. is taking the country by storm. Though he once said that those who disagree with him on climate policy should be thrown into a cage (prison cell…curtains for The Jacki Daily Show), he seems to have moderated his tone, and even is opposing a wind farm in Massachusetts (next episode) and shamelessly defending his private jet air travel, explaining “I’m not that kind of environmentalist!” He has frequently commented on the ease of election hacking and takes several interesting policy positions that we explore this episode.
The nation marvels at a seeming contradiction: Why was a Republican Texas Legislature impeaching a Republican Texas Attorney General? Jacki explains the story behind the story: Why Paxton is the top target for a certain national group of agitators; How a Paxton impeachment harms all Americans; Why Texans elected him by a double-digit margin in 2022 despite $50 million in negative ads against him; Why the House impeachment had to cheat the rules and what this means when the Senate tries the AG; Why the prevailing media narrative is exactly wrong. His accusers had to seat multiple grand juries to get an indictment on Paxton and have refused to try him for eight years – a dead giveaway that they have no case. So instead, the process is the punishment. - - - - - Psychologists have developed a new term for those who harness extreme political causes to feed narcissism and psychopathy: the “Dark Ego Vehicle Principle.” A new study in the peer-reviewed journal Current Psychology shows that those who support authoritarianism report higher levels of psychopathic traits. What might motivate a person to blow up a pipeline, endangering entire communities? Perhaps it has more to do with a perceived display of moral superiority, social status, the desire to dominate others, or aggression that satisfies thrill seeking than the actual “cause.” Those from privileged backgrounds are especially concerning as they can use their means to hijack movements, making the activism solely about themselves instead of social justice. - - - - - As the undisputed leader in renewable energy investment - with 66 billion invested - Texas is now seriously rethinking its approach to powering the state. If renewable energy is so cheap and competitive, why should Texas taxpayers continue to subsidize the unreliable energy at more than 40 times the benefit that fossil fuels or nuclear receive? After the Texas freeze of 2021 and ever-increasing demand and outages, Texas is shifting into reverse and the rest of the country should learn why. Jacki explains.
Jacki is joined by Donna Jackson of Project21, the black leadership network of the National Center for Public Policy Research. Ms. Jackson shares her recent testimony before the U.S. Congress to oppose regulation on for new vehicles, because “the proposed EPA rule has the distinction of harming black people on two continents, in the African nation of Congo as well as the U.S.” The regulation will boost car prices and “remove private car ownership from …most black Americans.” - - - - - “Mineral security”: Electric vehicles are expected to be only 10% of the national fleet by 2050 due to a lack of critical minerals and materials needed, mostly controlled by foreign adversaries.
