ADULT CONVERSATION:

Real talk - I had never even heard of the pelvic floor until my colleague, Molly Sommerhalder, told me she was leaving her job in public relations to start a business that focused on strengthening the pelvic floor!

And from talking to Molly, I learned how common it is to have issues with the pelvic floor. In fact, 27% of women 40 to 59 will experience a pelvic floor issue or condition. Once I heard that, I knew more women would benefit from hearing about what she teaches.

And some of the symptoms could be: Constant need to urinate Uncontrolled release of bowel or urine during daily activities Painful sex  Vaginal dryness or imbalance Tight or loose pelvic floor muscles Feeling like your pelvic floor is hanging low

Molly is the proud founder of Swan in the Lotus, Yoga and Wellness. She’s a woman’s embodiment coach and a yoga teacher. She's on 50 Shades of Kay to answer your questions and share what she has learned on her lifelong journey to healing her high-toned pelvic floor.

How are you? Not what you tell people casually at the grocery store or what you convey on social, how are you REALLY doing? Today's episode is a quick check-in of what's been going on in my world and maybe my struggles have been similar to how you've been feeling?

For me there's been ups and downs these past few months of COVID-19 and when things became a little too much for me to handle I reached out to friends. I felt like my emotions were all over the place and I was feeling such anxiety about the future. I was feeling the pain and fear of so many loved ones who have been struggling with so much more. Whether it was illness, loss of jobs and going through the public unrest during the current Black Lives Matter movement. A lot has been happening and I was feeling this need to want to help, but I didn't know how and I felt like at times I couldn't get ahold of my emotions.

That's when I learned it what it meant to be an "empath" (someone who feels others' emotions and their energy). And shout out to my radio colleague Riggs and my best friend Andrea who both recommend the book The Empath's Survival Guide: Life Strategies for Sensitive People by Judith Orloff MD.

WOW. It was spot on! HIGHLY recommend reading it if you feel like you're sensitive to other people's emotions.

And give yourself some grace. We are all in this storm, even though we might be in different boats.

Whether it's a death in the family, a career change, divorce or simply just feeling like you're in a fog - we've all felt LOST at some point or another in our life. But HOW do you find your way?

Return guest, Libby Castro is back on 50 Shades of Kay to share her tips and advice of what she and her husband Patrick did when they felt lost. They've turned their professional and personal experience into a keynote presentation called Lost...A Wayfinding Tale

They explain it using the acronym STOP - similar to what the U.S. Forest Service advises.

Stop:

As soon as you realize you may be lost: stop, stay calm, stay put. Panic is your greatest enemy.

Think:

Go over in your mind how you got to where you are. What landmarks should you be able to see? Do not move at all until you have a specific reason to take a step.

Observe:

Get out your compass and determine the directions based on where you are standing. Do not walk aimlessly.

If you are on a trail, stay on it. All trails are marked with signs (where intersections meet) and diamond blazers or maker. However, signs are sometimes vandalized or stolen.

As a very last resort, follow a drainage or stream downhill. This is often difficult path but could lead to a trail or road. Again, this could be very dangerous.

Plan:

Based on your thinking and observations, come up with some possible plans, think them through then act on one of them.

If you are not very, very confident in the route, then it’s always better to stay put.

If it’s nightfall, you are injured or you are near exhaustion, stay in place.

How can you apply these tips to your own life?

Do you know your personality type? This probably won’t surprise you, but your personality type explains HOW you communicate with your partner.

In last month’s podcast episode Elizabeth Kay and her husband, Eric, explained how he learned about this at a leadership conference during a personality presentation with executive career coach and author Anna Pool.

Anna is the co-owner of Executive Savvy Inc and she was hosting a Myers-Briggs Personality Workshop to show how observation verses interpretation can affect how you communicate in your relationships.

Anna is the guest on this episode to further explain how you react and respond to someone has a lot to do with your personality and how giving a “whole message” can help resolve a disagreement faster.

For individuals or organizations interested in learning more about practical ways to use the MBTI or to schedule Anna for a public speaking event, visit www.executivesavvyinc.com  or you can email Anna directly at anna@executivesavvyinc.com

Psychological Types and Relationships from MBTI

Dialogue with Whole Messages

When to Use:

  1. To create connection

  2. To resolve a disagreement

Process:

SPEAKER: Use whole messages. Use very few words.

  1. When you . . . . .  (What happened, observable fact, physical reality)

  2. I assume (or it implies to me) that . . . . . (my interpretation, perception, belief)

  3. Then I feel . . . . . (feeling or sensation in body, not a belief, like  “I feel that . .”)

  4. What I want or need is . . . . .

LISTENER:

Mirroring

I hear you saying that……  (Repeating what sender said does not mean that you agree.  It simply says that you heard what they said.)

Is that right?

Tell me more about that

Validation: When sender is finished and has no more to say.

It makes sense to me that……  (condensing what has been said)

Once the SPEAKER feels heard, trade roles until you’ve reached your goal.

Do you and your partner argue about the same thing over and over? My husband Eric and I kept having this reoccurring disagreement about our bad moods and it was all based off miscommunication and assumptions - which are not good in any relationship.

And then he went to a leadership conference for work and the light bulb went off. In this episode you'll hear what he learned and how it helped us with our communication and hopefully, it'll help you in your relationships.
