John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

1 Samuel 17
Summary of the Message
God gave victory through weakness. Even though David was fragile and not battle-ready, God gave him victory. Israel won the battle against the Philistines. God gave David an opportunity, and contrary to how Saul behaved, David didn't see the obstacles, he just saw that God would be by his side.

1 Samuel 16
Isaiah 53.3-4 *NIV
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.*
1 Corinthians 5.2 *NIV
2You are so proud of yourselves, but you should be mourning in sorrow and shame. And you should remove this man from your fellowship.*
Joshua 7.10 *NIV
10 The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?*
Proverbs 4.23 *NIV
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. The heart determines the life and only God can see the heart.*
Summary of the Message
Samuel had the mission of anointing the new king. He went over to Jesse's house and again Samuel was looking at the appearance and not the heart of Jesse's son. David was the chosen king-to-be, he went from field to throne. And God started guiding this new path of the kingdom.

1 Samuel 11.13 *NIV
But Saul said, “No one will be put to death today, for this day the Lord has rescued Israel.”*
Hebrews 6:12 *NIV
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Our faith should inspire people.*
James 1:1-8 *NIV
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.*
Summary of the Message
Saul was the king and he gave glory to God when winning battles. Samuel saw those victories as an opportunity to renew the kingdom, he always reinforced that Saul was an earthly king but the Lord was the heavenly king. Samuel also defended his own ministry and showed that all those victories were because the Lord was with Israel. Saul started to build an army, but he failed in 4 aspects: (1) he failed to act decisively (verses 1-4); (2) he failed to inspire the people (verses 5-7); (3) he failed to wait (verses 8-9); and (4) he failed to tell the truth (verses 10-15).

1 Samuel 16.14 *NKJV
But the Sipirt of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him.*
Summary of the Message
Although God and Samuel didn't consider it was the appropriate time for Israel to have a king, Saul was assigned to the task.
God showed Saul that He was in control. God also showed that He could supply for his needs. Lastly, God showed that he could provide Saul with the power to do the service.

This psalm was written during a rebellion by David’s son Absalom that had been partly caused by David’s adultery
2 Samuel 12:11 Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house. And I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. Yet David repented of what he had done, and God forgave him and restored his relationship. David did not have an easy life: Psalm 3V1 O Lord, I have so many enemies; so many are against me. 2 So many are saying, “God will never rescue him!”
Bring your fears and requests to God: ‘But you, God, shield me on all sides; you ground my feet, you lift my head high… ’ (v.3, MSG).
Like David, bring your fears and requests to God: ‘To the Lord I cry aloud, and he answers me from his holy hill’ (v.4).
In spite of his distressing situation, God lifted up David’s head. God does not want you to be downcast. Don’t keep looking at the regrets behind you, the problems around you, and the sin within you. Rather, lift up your head and see the help above you – walk with your head held high, and your eyes fixed on him.
David was able to say, ‘I lie down and sleep; I wake again because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side’ (vv.5–6). In spite of all the troubles, he seems to have a deep peace – like a lake, where there may be rough waves on the surface, but deeper down there is a great stillness.

Walk Humbly with God - Micah 6:8 ESV He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Apparently, walking is one of the best forms of physical exercise. Of course, walking is also a means, and for some people their only means, of transport. Walking for whatever reason is more enjoyable with someone else. Walking and talking is a great way to communicate with family, friends and also with God. The point is that we are doing two things at the same time. We are not just taking exercise or travelling. As we walk together we are in communion with one another. Both Enoch and Noah ‘walked with God’. They didn’t just sit, kneel or stand with God (the kind of actions we would often associate with spending time with God), but they were also in communion with God when doing something else. While you are doing other things – working, eating, exercising or relaxing – you can be in communion with God at the same time.

Matthew 15 verse 11 will say that it’s not what goes in your mouth that defiles a person but what comes out of it. Words have power. Words can impact other people Proverbs 18 verse 21 says the tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Words create atmosphere and it Can change someone’s future. So choose wisely, take them seriously.

Worship is reverence, veneration, adoration, glorification and exaltation of God. It doesn’t require music to worship in fact we can worship in expressing reverence and adoration which can be done in word and in deeds without even singing a song. Isaiah 6

Do you spend time reading God’s word each day? Each week? Once a month? Ever? If you read the word of God for less than you would like there are two things that I know are true, you are not alone, and you are not receiving oh the Lord has for you. Joshua 1:8

Return to me" is the call of Joel 2:12-14. Many times in life, there are hard days, even hard seasons. We've all been there. It seems as though one bad day, one harsh criticism, or one failure can be all-consuming and cause us to look right past the many good things.
Read Matthew 6:25-34. Take time to note the specific verses that speak to you, even date it in your Bible to reflect on later.

Returning today to the theme of focus. Your hunger for food will start to take center stage as your physical flesh begins to send all those reminders to your brain telling you to eat, and eat NOW! But as scripture tells us, your thoughts and your focus are a choice, not a foregone conclusion.
Read Matthew 6:1-24. There is so much in this chapter that relates to the fast you are undertaking.

Devotional on Fasting like Daniel. I want to challenge you right now to commit to moments of quiet prayer and intense focus on the Lord during this fast. Decide now where your place of prayer will be during this fast. Take a moment and think about your relationship with Jesus over the last year. What factors last year played a role in your relationship with Jesus being where it is today?
