Data shows that the likelihood of a referral scoring a job interview is 50%, compared to non-referrals who have a 3% chance. Over 60% of candidates are hired after being referred, and the chances surge to 91% if the endorsement comes from a director-level professional. In this LinkedIn Live, I welcome Lauren Smith, Forbes 30 Under 30 alum and cofounder and CEO of Refer, a platform that enables companies to incentivize and leverage their networks, and individuals to get rewarded for referring their network. In today's job market, amid an economic downturn, companies have the upper hand.In this LinkedIn Live, I will discuss how employers are wielding the power over their workforce, which is evident in the wave of layoff announcements, high executive compensation packages, strict return-to-office policies, lack of executive accountability and the interviewing process.
The start of this year has ushered in a new and unpleasant job market trend. Throughout mid-2022 to 2023, major companies announced widespread layoffs, eliminating thousands of roles all at once. The workforce is now experiencing a shift from large-scale layoffs to a more gradual and ongoing process. Under the cloud of looming layoffs, employees will confront a work environment that almost feels like the psychological torture of waterboarding—the century-old practice in which water is poured on the face of a prisoner, slowly driving them mad as they experience feelings of drowning and uncertainty as to when it will end.
For decades, the goal of corporate workers was to rise through the ranks of their organizations. They’d want to quickly shed their individual contributor roles and take up management opportunities. This was perceived as the traditional way to climb the corporate ladder of success. However, times have changed. A recent survey revealed that fewer people are wanting to become managers, as support for managers is plummeting. According to research, middle managers are the most exhausted employees at any level of an organization. In this LinkedIn Live, I will be speaking to Lia Garvin, ex-Google, Microsoft, Apple, bestselling author, TEDx speaker and a Top LinkedIn Voice, to discuss why this is. We will delve into why there is so much animosity toward managers, what makes a good/bad supervisor and how they could be better set up for success.
In this episode, I will be joined by Tuck Hauptfuhrer, founder and CEO of EarnBetter. EarnBetter is a promising new startup, backed by Andreessen Horowitz and Abstract Ventures, that focuses on helping job seekers land their dream jobs. We'll learn what inspired him to found this startup and the journey to funding. Tuck will also discuss why you should be leveraging this fast-growing technology in your job search, and walk us through how it works.
One of the biggest complaints about human resources and employers is the cold and impersonal manner in which they lay off workers. How a company communicates and facilitates job cuts is essential for demonstrating empathy and providing immediate support to employees during a difficult and emotional time, as well as maintaining trust with its remaining staff and anyone looking to join the organization in the future. In this LinkedIn Live, Valerie Vadala, an experienced global talent acquisition leader who served in executive roles at Wells Fargo, Shutterstock, Invesco, OppenheimerFunds, Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers, will be giving her take on this insensitive layoff trend. We'll be discussing the viral Cloudflare firing video and how companies could conduct themselves better during these layoffs!
Instead of shotgunning your resume out to employers, in this LinkedIn Live, I offer a more strategic approach to your job search, as spraying and praying will almost always backfire. You must have a daily system in place to be successful in your search.
With the best of intentions, people have been doling out really bad interview and career advice for years. Family and friends mean well, but they tend to offer career counseling without having an actual clue about the specific circumstances and nuances of the recipient’s unique situation. In this LinkedIn Live, I will give examples of misguided career advice and explain why you should not follow it.
The majority of millionaires are self-made, and they have accumulated their wealth through a combination of hard work, education and investing. The sectors that produce America’s wealthiest people include finance and investments. Despite the recent economic challenges, the U.S. economy has been growing steadily for years, creating new jobs and opportunities for people to earn more. The stock market was on a bull run for several years, which helped millionaires increase their wealth.A surge in entrepreneurship, including building tech startups, helped mint new millionaires. More people are getting college degrees, which is leading to higher-paying jobs and more opportunities for wealth accumulation.
Americans are becoming increasingly unhappy at work. BambooHR’s recent report benchmarking employee happiness revealed that job satisfaction has declined at a rate 10 times faster than in the previous three years. Separately, Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace 2023 Report found that most of the world's employees are quiet quitting, exhibiting record-high stress levels, and more than half of employees are actively or passively job-seeking.The convergence of financial turbulence, outdated management expectations and a lack of flexibility at work all contribute to declining employee satisfaction. The pandemic gave way to a reimagining of new possibilities for workers. As companies wrestle to adapt, it spotlights larger fundamental issues that have been present all along.
The New Year is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. It's the perfect opportunity to take stock of your career and make some bold moves to reach your full potential. On Monday, both Spotify and Twilio announced plans to slash headcount at their respective companies.Cutting jobs around the holiday season is widely perceived as cold, brutal and lacking basic compassion. Workers are left jobless and without a steady paycheck. Instead of looking forward to some time to relax and enjoy being with their family and friends, the downsized employees must now scramble to write a résumé and seek new employment in a challenging environment for white-collar professionals. For some, it may mean fewer presents under the Christmas tree or opting out of holiday travel to visit family because it is no longer financially viable. In this LinkedIn Live, I will share with you what to do if you find yourself in this predicament this holiday season and how you can get a job quickly in the new year.

If you are in the interview process, you will need to be prepared for a long slog. There will be times when a company strings you along, neglects to offer feedback and ghosts you. It may be cold comfort, but you are not the only one going through this, as it has become commonplace in today's labor market. In this LinkedIn Live, I share how you can mentally bounce back from the suckerpunch that is job interview rejection.
Presenteeism is referred to as the act of being physically at work, but not really there mentally. Although they show up physically, the employee is unable to fully perform their duties—due to illness, injury or other conditions—and are more likely to make mistakes. Resenteeism describes the act of staying in an unsatisfying job. A worker in those circumstances begins to actively resent their current workplace and often doesn’t do a great job of hiding it.In this LinkedIn Live, I discuss how both trends are born out of the feeling of job insecurity and what to do if you fall in either category.
The "Zero F's Given" mindset refers to not caring about unimportant opinions, judgments or expectations from others. It's about focusing your mental and emotional energy on what truly matters to you and not wasting it on things that don't align with your priorities or values. In this LinkedIn Live, I will discuss how adopting this mindset can help in your career and life.

This is a season where it's socially acceptable to coast. Most people enjoy the holiday slowdown and pay scant attention to their jobs and careers. They put themselves on autopilot and glide through the end of the year. People who have achieved great success in their lives and careers look at the holiday season very differently. They recognize that there is still so much yet to accomplish. For them, there is enough time to take proactive steps to improve themselves and enhance their careers and lives.
You may think that a hiring manager just wants you to tout your work experience and education and list off your current responsibilities. However, to be successful in the job interview, you must bring so much more to the table. In this LinkedIn Live, we will get inside of the minds of hiring managers and I will divulge what they really want to hear from you in the interview process.
On both sides of the hiring equation, the inherent construct of the interview process lends itself to questionable actions. People tend to embellish things to either get a job or entice someone to accept a role. The more desperate a person is, the more they’ll stretch the truth. Each party feels pressured to present themselves in the best possible light—even if it requires them to tell little white lies or omit certain facts during job interviews. In this LinkedIn Live, I will discuss how recruiters, hiring managers, HR and candidates play with the truth.

When hiring professionals review résumés, they put the onus on job hunters to defend why they were out of work. This is one of the many unfair things job seekers must contend with.Instead of being understanding, hiring managers often raise concerns. Some will take a pass on the applicant and not bother to interview and delve deeper into why the person was out of work.If you’ve been searching for weeks or months without any meaningful interviews, taking a bridge job can be a practical and responsible decision for anyone who has lost their job and needs to generate income.

When you face challenges and uncertainty, there are two paths to take: one is letting yourself get overwhelmed with what’s going on in the world, and the other option is to build and cultivate a success mindset with grit, determination and passion.Unrealistic internal expectations, financial pressures, excessive commitments and seasonal affective disorder can cause anxiety and stress. If you want to progress in your career, you have to continually challenge yourself and push forward. I will provide you with actionable advice to help you change course.
A person can regularly engage in self-sabotage and not recognize the self-inflicted damage they are causing. When it comes to the job search, after continually interviewing with several companies and not receiving any offers, it may be time to take a step back and assess the situation. While most people find fault with the company for requiring too much from an applicant, it is also possible that the job hunter needs to take a good hard look at how they come across in the interview process. You can turn things around by self-reflecting, being honest with yourself, acknowledging your weak points, working to improve upon them and being open to feedback and constructive criticism.
Recruiters are a lot like talent agents. They are able to get your résumé to the right person's desk. The search professional will know the industry, company rankings, the hiring managers, interviewers and human resources professionals. They’ll have a strong understanding of the corporate culture, what companies look for in an applicant, title structure and compensation levels. The recruiter can offer color to the people you are meeting with, obtain critical feedback and constructive criticisms and gently pressure the hiring managers to choose their client. A big key is that they’ll be your advocate when it comes time to negotiate a compensation package.Since recruiters can play a vital role in securing a new job, I will share everything you need to know about working with one.
Workers are feeling exhausted and burned out. American families face a confluence of financial challenges, including high inflation, escalating costs and mortgage rates that make it nearly impossible for young families to purchase a home. To make matters worse, an abrupt job loss could lead to a financial doom spiral. In economics, a doom loop describes a situation in which one negative economic condition catalyzes another negative condition, creating a third negative condition or reinforcing the first, resulting in a downward spiral.
Losing one's job can be an extremely difficult and emotionally taxing experience for many people. It can impact nearly all aspects of life. A downsized person can go through the gamut of emotions—shock, disbelief, sadness and anger. For those lacking a financial safety net, the job loss can be traumatic for the impacted person and their family. In this LinkedIn Live, Wendy Turner-Williams, the former chief data and artificial intelligence officer at Tableau, breaks the taboo of talking about long-term unemployment. If you are a job seeker who has been through the painstaking process of interviewing lately and are wondering why it is taking SOOOOOOOOOOOO long, we have got the answers for you!
Topic #1: It’s prudent for businesses to continue the hiring and interview process during the holiday season. Job seekers can also take advantage of the fact that there will be less competition for employment during this time.Topic #2:The battle over return-to-office mandates has been waging for a while. As a sign of discontent and protest, some employees, like the trends of quiet quitting, acting their wage or Bare Minimum Mondays, have started “coffee badging.”This new workplace trend has emerged as a way for employees to meet their required in-office attendance policies, but avoid spending too much time there. Tune in to see how this can end badly for workers.
Americans are dealing with a multitude of difficulties: high inflation, rising costs of everything and mortgage rates that are at a level that make it nearly impossible for young people to purchase a home.In the current labor market, finding a new job is difficult, if you're a mid to senior-level professional. Additionally, the upcoming holiday season is notorious for a slowdown in hiring for this cohort. There’s a white-collar "richcession." Families are maxing out their credit cards and digging into their retirement funds to afford household expenses and enjoy one-in-a-lifetime experiences. The nation remains divided over politics. In this LinkedIn Live, we will focus on actively countering your anxious thoughts by managing what is in your control.
Employers are often reluctant to fire workers. They need to offer severance packages and risk having the employee accuse the company of discrimination or prejudice for letting them go. It’s among the worst, most uncomfortable tasks for a human resources professional or manager. Supervisors may want to avoid conflict with employees. Nudging them to leave of their own volition can be a way for companies to manage their workforce and reduce costs. In behavioral economics, a “nudge” is a gentle prompt that influences people’s behavior. It refers to how HR and business leaders can use gentle cues to encourage employees to behave in a specific manner—like investing in their pension, exceeding deadlines, participating in feedback surveys or pushing a worker out the door.

For nearly 120 years, Goodwill has been a leading workforce provider, helping people empower themselves with the skills and job support services they need to thrive. Goodwill, among other philanthropic endeavors, helps individuals and communities build brighter futures through the power of work.
The organization is usually thought of as the thrift shop. However, Goodwill offers much more. The iconic nonprofit is a major provider of workforce development and skills training. In a wide-ranging interview, Preston shared the organization’s mission. In collaboration with employers and partners, Goodwill helps underserved individuals obtain training and upskilling. In this new tech-driven economy, Preston is focused on teaching digital skills, so that people can find a good job and develop long-term careers.
As technology is the dominant trend for the foreseeable future, it's important for folks to at least learn the basics to become competitive in this new economy. To future-proof the longevity of your career, you need to accept this reality and take actions to ensure that you acquire the necessary skills and tools to keep up with the fast-moving, online digital world.
Goodwill, in partnership with Google and other companies and government officials, will host the Rising Together Action Summit taking place on Monday, May 9th. If you would like to attend the event virtually, please email risingtogether@advoc8.com.
Ross Buhrdorf, the CEO of ZenBusiness, is leading the way for a new wave of entrepreneurs. ZenBusiness is on a mission to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs, small business owners, gig-economy workers, and freelancers to take charge of their lives and futures by ditching the corporate world and working for themselves.
His company enables these intrepid folks to start, run, and grow a successful business. The amount of people that want to opt out of the traditional corporate rat race is staggering. Pre-pandemic ZenBusiness had roughly 30,000 customers—and the number recently exploded to 250,000.
Buhrdorf, a long time tech executive, early in his career saw older workers get fired at the company he worked at. This caused an epiphany—if they laid off the experienced talent, what would happen to him ten or more years later? He decided that since it's risky to pursue the traditional corporate route, he might as well chart his own course and be in control of his destiny. Buhrdorf then rebooted his career as a successful entrepreneur.
Buhrdorf is not alone. Americans are a relentless, maverick, rugged and determined bunch of people. While we like complaining and arguing with each other, Americans have this built-in sense of self-determination and grit. We refuse to give up in the face of disaster. Against all odds, we persevere and bravely forge forward, in pursuit of our dreams and goals.
Having spent more than a decade hiring in the rapidly changing tech world, Matei, shared his insights into finding the people who will create the internet of tomorrow.
In addition to recruiters broadening their talent search across borders, they should also consider developers with unconventional backgrounds, such as self-taught and bootcamp alumni.
Benefits should go beyond salary and companies should provide constant opportunities for learning, whether through external courses, internal knowledge exchange sessions or exposure to new technologies via project rotation.
According to Matei, there needs to be an overhaul of the education system to keep up with the surging demand. Currently, just 13.2% of schools offer computer science courses; however, 77% of jobs in the next decade will require tech skills.
A new law passed by the New York City Council—which was supposed to go into effect in April 2022—required employers in New York City to include the minimum and maximum starting salary for any "advertised job, promotion or transfer opportunity."
This piece of legislation was heralded as a complete game-changer for both people searching for a new job and current employees. It would pull back the curtain on salaries, which have often been cloaked in secrecy.
Without full disclosure, searching for a job is an unfair one-sided way of doing business, with the company having the upper hand. For example, an applicant would be forced to interview with three to six plus people for many months. After the culmination of the arduous and emotionally draining interview process, an offer could be made that is far below the expectations of the eager candidate.
Now, this new employee-empowering policy may not see the light of day. Right before the law was slated to go into effect, City Council members are attempting to either postpone it or enact alterations that could potentially “gut” the intent of the law, which was designed, in large part, to promote equal pay.
Unintended consequences were one of the reasons cited for a public hearing on the matter. The Democratic politicians pushing for the change said the law “would exclude businesses with fewer than 15 employees, allow for hiring notices that don’t specify a position to exclude salary info and exempt remote positions that can be done outside New York City.” Implementation would be delayed to November 1, if changed.
Some of the other reasons raised included that it was too rushed and concerns over disclosing salaries or wages would cause businesses to outbid each other to win workers. This would cause salary inflation, they claimed.

When there is a crisis, there will always be people who look to benefit from someone else’s misery. In this case, it's Wayne Pankratz, an executive director of operations for American Franchise Capital, which owns 50 Applebee's in the Midwest. Applebee’s has both company and franchised owned restaurants.
The food chain’s executive sent out an email to colleagues gleefully saying that the combination of skyrocketing gas prices, inflation, the ending of enhanced unemployment benefits and lush stimulus checks from the government, will give the company the upper hand in dealing with workers. This would include paying staff lower wages.
The tone-deaf manager wrote "Most of our employee base and potential employee base live paycheck to paycheck," and "Any increase in gas prices cuts into their disposable income." He added, "As inflation continues to climb and gas prices continue to go up, that means more hours employees will need to work to maintain their current level of living."
We also talk about Amazon and Starbuck employees joining a union.
The return to the office movement has highlighted the disconnect between executives, managers and their employees. Generally, the supervisors want everyone to come back to their offices. Meanwhile, employees are perfectly happy working remotely. If pushed, they’d be open for a couple of days in an office setting.
It's a tale of two cities. The executives at top investment banks, hedge funds and private equity firms have a cushy worklife. They have their own luxurious offices with teams of assistants and secretaries, and people at their beckoning call. At home they can afford to live in New York City and don’t have to endure a three hour round trip commute from the suburbs.
Earning millions of dollars, they can afford large city apartments, nannies, childcare, private schools for their kids and corporate cars whisking them around town. The average worker at a bank does well, but it can’t compare to the top echelon.
Old school managers still can’t wrap their minds around remote work. They spent forty years dressing up in a suit and tie, watching over their minions in cubicles. They won’t likely admit it, but it’s an ego and power trip. The execs are doing what is best for themselves, enjoying the perks of being a boss, and disregarding the needs and wants of their people. They prize facetime in front of the boss as more important than production.
An uncomfortable amount of the 45-and-over crowd have been forced to take jobs at the Home Depot or accept gig-economy-type roles, just to pay the bills and get health insurance.
A large percentage have just given up on the job hunt and called it a day. Sadly, the experienced people were unceremoniously pushed out of the job market and did not leave on their own volition.
A new study from the Schwartz Center for Economics at the New School, entitled, ‘The March 2022 Status of Older Workers Report,’ showed that during the pandemic “many older workers did not leave their jobs voluntarily but got pushed out of the labor force.”
The retired population in America between ages 55 and 74 has boomed since March 2020. A lot of this was by force, not choice. More than one million people in this demographic left the job market. The number of those who retired involuntarily a year after losing a job was 10 times higher than pre-pandemic times, the report found. The study indicates that workers didn’t leave the job market because of the Great Resignation. It was the Great kick-out-the-door. Things haven’t improved that much, despite a hot job market. The research shows that some older workers are returning, but “these flows do not make up for excess retirement.”
The numbers paint a bleak picture for the experienced workers. In March 2020, there were 35 million older workers who were gainfully employed. Only one month later, around 3.8 million workers ages 55 to 74, (11 percent of all workers in that age group), lost their jobs.
A year later, 400,000 workers in this cohort retired due to the inability to find a suitable job. By comparison, in a pre-pandemic environment, the number of people in this demographic retiring would be about 180,000. Those older workers who remained employed were more likely to postpone retirement during this period, as they’ve seen what happened to their contemporaries. It would seem that a person who was pushed into retirement, now has a good chance of finding a new role as there are more than eleven million jobs open, a record setting high. However, it's not so simple.
Love or hate him, you have to admire Elon Musk’s chutzpah. Musk, one of the richest men in the world, recently disclosed a 9.2% investment in Twitter making him the largest shareholder, and a seat on the Board of Directors.
While the social media site is smaller compared to Meta, Instagram and other massive platforms, it serves as the public town square. Much of the public discourse takes place on the site.
Journalists, politicians, financial professionals and people from across all social and economic stratas weigh in with their thoughts and opinions.
It seems that everything becomes political, and people divide themselves into warring, squabbling factions. Concerns were raised by both internal workers and users over what will happen now that Musk is acting like he’s taking over. Some Twitter employees and users of the site openly complained and some said they’d leave the platform. Libertarians and conservatives were elated as they claimed they were ostracized and censored on the site.
One group who is very happy are the shareholders. Upon Musk’s announcement the share price of Twitter skyrocketed nearly 20% higher.
He hasn’t wasted any time taking charge. On Twitter, Musk has been tweeting his thoughts about new changes that should be made. He won’t be a typical investor and board member. The intrepid entrepreneur has a huge Twitter following, gets the zeitgeist of the platform and is an avid tweeter who mixes smart takes along with a sense of humor. This includes his creating a poll to determine if Twitter should “Delete the w in twitter?”
Musk proposed a subscription type of model, called Twitter Blue premium. It would charge around $3.00 per month to get a verified blue check–one that is different from “official account” and “paid 12 months up front & account doesn't get checkmark for 60 days (watch for credit card chargebacks) & suspended with no refund if used for scam/spam." The company currently has a feature for members sto tip creators with bitcoin.
There may be an option to pay the fee with dogecoin cryptocurrency, which is associated with Musk as he has referenced the token on numerous occasions. This new offering would provide for a steady stream of revenue and uncouple the social media site’s dependent upon corporate advertisers. The multi-billionaire also added that if the paid subscription expires, the check mark should also go away. This, he says, will mute the bots and scammers who try to game the system by signing up for only a couple of months.
Twitter Blue was previously launched in June 2021, as the first subscription service which offered "exclusive access to premium features" on a monthly subscription basis.

A couple of months ago I spoke with Jesper. His country, Denmark, was named the most happiest nation in the world.
Now in the podcast he talked about Russia's cyber war against Europe, and planes that flew over his country that may have had nuclear bombs aboard.
There are not enough people in this field. Cyber security has around 3 million jobs available worldwide. You may want to consider pivoting to this fast-growing, well paying sector.
You don't need a computer science degree to enter the field.

Lyron Bentovim, President and CEO of the Glimpse Group, a publicly traded startup focused on building and creating for the Metaverse, extended an invitation to Forbes to check out how this new virtual world works.
He tells us that combining aspects of artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality, along with social media, online gaming, and other services, the Metaverse is a rapidly emerging space that adds a new dimension to the internet.
The Metaverse offers new, exciting opportunities to people. It could be an enhanced work-from-home experience that makes you feel part of the team and not isolated alone in your apartment.
You can interact with co-workers, go on interviews, find a new job, communicate with clients and build businesses. It feels that there’s an unlimited possibility of what can happen in a new virtual reality.
For two years we've been subjected to fear, anxiety, isolation, powerlessness which all contributed to a crisis of “collective trauma,” and being on “edge.’
To find out how bad things are, and what business leaders and people can do to cope with the unrelenting challenges brought on by the pandemic, I spoke with with Paula Allen, Global Leader and SVP, Research and Total Wellbeing at LifeWorks—a world leader in providing digital and in-person solutions that support the total wellbeing of individuals and employees.
It took a deadly virus outbreak to wake up employers to look after the mental health and emotional wellbeing of their people. Covid-19, followed by the Delta variant, and now the sudden surge of Omicron, have left people feeling lost and defeated. It's hard to remain positive and optimistic when public schools, colleges, businesses, restaurants, and live events shut down. Travel plans are scrapped as airlines cancel flights. Fear of catching and spreading the disease makes many people despondent and withdraw from society.
Allen says that according to LifeWorks’ statistics, there has been a doubling of the proportion of the population that is at high risk for mental health issues – from 14 per cent to 34 per cent. With Omicron, she says, “I think we’re going to continue to feel the edge that we’ve been feeling,” and “Those people who do have mental health support needs, their needs are fairly complex – more so than before.”

4-Day Workweek, Remote-First, Environmentally Friendly Dockwa (a division of the Wanderlust Group) Rides The Waves Of The Growing Boating Trend
Boston-based the Wanderlust Group—the parent brand to Dockwa, Marinas.com and the forthcoming Campouts—offers technology marketplaces and platforms that help empower adventurers to enjoy the great outdoors.
The top boating reservation app offers boaters secure slips and moorings at over 800 marinas nationwide. Dockwa is one of the first tech startups that had an existing four-day workweek to receive a considerable amount of funding from venture capitalists and investors.
Instead of the expected Friday off, Dockwa CEO Mike Melillo chose to include Monday in its three-day weekend. This day off doesn’t have any catches nor does it adversely impact employee compensation, time off or the hours they need to work.
Envoy ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop’ Making The Workplace Safer For People To Come Back
Larry Gadea, the CEO and founder of the $1.4 billion market valuation unicorn workplace app, Envoy, had a circuitous route to success compared to other Silicon Valley tech leaders.
As a young child he had to flee communist Romania with his family. He was smuggled out in the backseat of his parents’ car, lived in Germany, then moved onto Ottawa, Canada. His parents held Master’s degrees and had great careers in Romania, but they were forced to start all over again. They worked difficult blue-collar jobs. His mother cleaned houses, and his father picked berries.
Larry Gadea strived to build a better future for himself and his family. He joined Google as a software engineer, and later moved to Twitter to become one of the first fifty employees of the social media site. He noticed that there were many people coming and going into the fast-growing office, and couldn’t tell who worked there or were guests, clients, business partners or friends of employees.
To get a handle on the increased flow of unfamiliar faces, Gadea did what came naturally, he built an app. He designed a ‘visitor’ program to ‘sign-in’ folks and keep track of who is entering the building.
It was successful, and Gadea launched a business around the visitor app.
AI-Powered Bots May Be The Answer To The Great Resignation And War For Talent
When a new technology is developed, it's first met with skepticism by many and enthusiastically embraced by others. Over time, more often than not, people realize that smartphones, computers, the internet, cryptocurrency and virtual reality add value to our lives and work.
One company that is on a mission to fully automate businesses is UiPath. The tech company is a leading enterprise automation vendor, headquartered in New York City and has offices around the world with about 3,000 employees. Its sophisticated software platform helps clients build AI-powered bots that take care of important, but mundane tasks that bog down human workers.
Using machine learning, AI and bots, UiPath is changing and improving the way people work. Its mission is to unlock human creativity and potential by empowering workers through automation. It uses robotic process automation, a software technology that makes it easy to build, deploy and manage software robots that emulate human actions.
More than 9,600 customers, including 80% of the Fortune 10 and more than 60% of the Fortune Global 500, use UiPath’s technologies. Its clients include Chipotle, Eversource, Equifax, Cleveland Clinic and Autodesk.
Nowsta Is ‘Mission Control’ For Companies To Easily Find And Hire ‘Just-In-Time’ Workers
Throughout the beginning of the pandemic, frontline workers, restaurant staff and bartenders were furloughed and fired in alarmingly large numbers. As time progressed and the dire situation slightly improved, the deadly virus outbreak made people reevaluate their work lives. They decided that they will no longer kowtow to bosses who treat them poorly and don’t pay well.
Almost two years later, businesses can’t find enough workers to satiate their needs. In 2022, workers are in the driver's seat. Businesses are desperate to attract, recruit and retain people. Smart entrepreneurs are building apps and platforms to help find workers. One of these people is Nicholas Lillios, who is the cofounder and CEO of Nowsta. He built a business around just-in-time workers, creating an easier way to schedule, manage and pay hourly staff.
Employers often spend anywhere from 30 to 50 hours a week managing hourly, gig and temp workers. The Nowsta platform can streamline the process, reducing that time to 30 minutes per week. For workers, it also means getting paid instantly—something that has been a pain point for temporary and shift workers for years. Nick refers to Nowsta as “mission control” for gig, shift, temp and flex workforces.
Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, along with sophisticated payments technology, Lillios reimagined the way businesses communicate with and pay their hourly wage employees. The mission is to make a “better and more human work experience, equipping both employers and employees with tools they need to meet the challenges of work in the 21st century.”
The platform became one of the fastest-growing tech companies in the hotels, catering, restaurants, staffing, events and other customer-facing and frontline jobs. Nowsta helps manage more than 300,000 workers across more than 600 employers—ranging from stadiums and hotels, to food services vendors and warehouses every month with work schedules, communicating with their managers and instantly accessing their wages.
Basically, Nowsta, with sophisticated software, can find workers who are idle and alert them of an opening for work. For instance, one bar on the block may be slow, but has too many servers on the shift. The app can alert the waitstaff about the need for help at another restaurant a few blocks away. Multiply this scenario throughout New York City and other states across the country. The company presents it as a combination of “workforce management tools, like automated scheduling, real-time analytics and streamlined time-tracking, with an on-demand labor marketplace that connects employers to a skilled pool of workers sourced by trusted third-party staffing providers.”
Innovative startups are seeking out new creative ways to help businesses mentor, upskill, cross-train and help employees succeed, so that the odds will increase that people will stick around. GrowthSpace, an Israeli-based tech company, offers a clever way to help CEOs fight attrition by offering personalized learning and development programs (L&D), driven by an artificial intelligence data-driven platform.
The startup connects workers with an appropriate mentor. The employee will have one-on-one, personalized programs that match each employee’s challenge with the right expert, coach or mentor. In addition to specifically tailored advice and guidance, based on the employee’s needs, managers receive feedback simultaneously that measures progress to ensure the plan is efficient and effective.
Small Towns And Cities Are Offering Up To $20,000 For Remote Workers To Relocate
Remote, hybrid and flexibility—the ability to work whenever and wherever you want—will be the new future of work. This will cause significant societal changes.
Digital nomads, mainly single knowledge workers, have started relocating to beach towns, ski slopes and far-off, international, exotic locations. There’s been a shift from large crowded cities to the suburbs.
During the pandemic, a number of countries offered incentives to attract remote workers. As their economies were mainly tourism based, they were in dire need of revenue. Inducing knowledge workers to live and work in their country was a great way to bring in much needed revenue and taxes.
Barbados, Estonia, Bermuda and Georgia have all opened their doors to Americans, inviting them to come, work, pay taxes and contribute to the economy. In an open letter from Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, she warmly encouraged people to migrate to her country. “On behalf of our beautiful island of Barbados, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you.”
In the U.S., smaller cities and towns are attempting to attract remote workers. They are offering lucrative sign-on bonuses to help with the move. They are also leveraging good, old-fashioned amenities to draw people in.
Alain Dehaze, CEO of Adecco, Shares His Insights On The Future Of Work And The ‘Great Reevaluation’
Alain Dehaze, the CEO of Adecco, one of the largest, diversified international talent staffing firms in the world, shared his views on the future of work.
Dehaze, comes across as the antithesis of the perception of a CEO presiding over a large, sprawling organization. He’s humble, polite, candid, transparent and passionate about advocating for a better workplace experience for employees and empowering managers to empathetically lead their respective teams. In this fast-changing Covid-19 environment, leadership, he contends, must be on top of trends and workers’ attitudes, desires, needs and the way in which they want to work on a daily basis.
Due to the large global reach of Adecco and its array of divisions throughout the world, the company offers a unique global perspective on the current and future trends of work. By recognizing the changes and taking appropriate actions, both management and workers can succeed during these tumultuous and uncertain times. Companies are starting to critically rethink how they can build and lead.
His Swiss-based company recently conducted a “Resetting Normal 2021” study of 14,800 knowledge-workers across 25 countries, in an effort to gain market intelligence and important insights into what is happening in the work world.
Please listen to the highlights of the study.
Working at Coinbase, the large cryptocurrency exchange, Amy Yin recognized that the world was fast moving toward a distributed, flexible remote workplace. As this quickly happens, there’s a dire need to make the lives of both employees and managers easier.
Yin left her good job at Coinbase to prove her thesis by focusing on building an office reservation and scheduling tool specifically designed with hybrid remote offices in mind. She started OfficeTogether, a company that offers a software platform to enhance the experience of remote workers. The product also makes the lives of human resources and management easier and more productive.
OfficeTogether strives to make it easy for a business to become a hybrid-office company by creating a cool scheduling and capacity management software that can integrate your physical space with the Slack, Google Calendar, Okta and other platforms.
An important feature for workers is that you can check the app to see who will be in the office on any given day. If the people you need to collaborate with aren’t scheduled, then it may not make sense to spend three hours commuting back and forth to the office just to go on Zoom calls, which could just be done at home. It could also help employees from showing up to an office that is already at capacity, or when a big, noisy and rambunctious sales meeting is scheduled to take place.
Yin is focused on productively helping teams plan their time in office together.
A Single Mother, Self-Taught Software Developer Living With Mental Illness Raises Concerns Over Apple’s Limited Remote-Work Policy
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, recently told his global workforce of 137,000 employees that they’d have to return to the office beginning early September. It's expected that employees will spend about three days a week at the office and the other two at home or remotely.
In an open letter to Cook, some employees of Apple voiced their concerns about returning to an in-person office setting stating, “We feel like the current policy is not sufficient in addressing many of our needs.” The letter pointed out that workers delivered “the same quality of products and services that Apple is known for, all while working almost completely remotely.”
Despite protests from workers, Apple is remaining resolute in its position. Remote-work positions will be limited and decisions made “on a case-by-case basis with any new remote positions requiring executive approval.”
Otmar Szafnauer has been on a wild ride. Born in Semlac, a small village in Romania, he immigrated with his family to Detroit, Michigan as a young boy.
Szafnauer received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Wayne State University and a master's degree in business and finance from the University of Detroit.
He joined the Ford Motor Company and was appointed program manager for Ford in the United States. While he was working at Ford, Szafnauer had larger ambitions and attended the Jim Russell Car Racing School. The engineer turned race car driver.
After Ford, Szafnauer became the operations director at British American Racing in Formula 1 (F1), hired by Honda. He then rose to vice-president of Honda racing developments and became a member of the management board of the Honda F1 team. Szafnauer later joined Force India. He was, up until very recently, the CEO and team principal of the Aston Martin F1 Team.
In an in-depth conversation, Szafnauer shared his management philosophy.
In an interview with Ginnie Carlier, EY Americas vice chair of talent, we discuss the movement that she is spearheading.
Oftentimes, when you speak with top executives they use meaningless jargon, espouse platitudes and nothing gets accomplished. Carlier is direct and a woman of action. She is on a mission to make EY an empathetic workplace.
By doing so, it will improve the mental health and well-being of her employees. Happier workers, who feel empowered, respected and trusted by managers, will outperform, as they greatly appreciate the confidence and autonomy. This should result in satisfied clients, as appreciative professionals work harder and smarter. Revenue and profit growth then follow suit.
Carlier discussed that EY will have a “flexible” workstyle. This means that if a person wants to work remotely, that’s fine. Should they want to come into the office a couple of days a week, the office is open. The employees are treated like adults who can make their own informed decisions on what type of schedules work best for them. Of course, there will be times when meetings, a client’s desire for an in-person conversation or a team leader needing a person to be in the office will be honored and the relevant professionals would be asked to be available.
The secret sauce, according to Carlier, is to be empathetic.
They say, “Never meet your heroes.” This adage may be due to the disappointment found when someone you idolize doesn’t match up to your expectations. There should be a corollary to this axiom: “Sometimes, you’ll be surprised and delighted to learn that a high-profile person is amazing.”
In a wide-ranging interview with Dr. Robert Langer, the multibillionaire cofounder of Moderna, the biotech startup that helped save the world from the Covid-19 pandemic.
As an executive recruiter, I’ve interviewed thousands of high-powered professionals over the last two decades. It's rare to find uber successful people who still possess humility and gratitude.
Langer, in addition to being a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a chemical engineer, scientist, inventor and entrepreneur. He famously cofounded Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotech firm Moderna, and owns a roughly 3% stake, worth about $2.6 billion.
The MIT professor, who still regularly goes into the lab, has also founded more than 40 other companies. He holds around 1,400 patents and is one of the most published and cited scholars of all time.
Josh Brenner, CEO Of Hired, Is Using Artificial Intelligence To Improve The Job Search Experience And Increase Diversity Hiring
Job boards seem stale and old fashioned. A company posts a long laundry list of requirements, but neglects to share what job seekers want to know: the compensation range, what the boss is like, how much turnover the organization has and whether there is a future within the organization.
With the proliferation of job boards, online corporate career sections, job aggregation sites, LinkedIn easy-to-apply listings and other platforms, it makes it easy for job seekers to “spray and pray,” submitting their résumés everywhere, hoping for a hit, much to the chagrin of human resources personnel who have to wade through all of the irrelevant submissions. Job seekers, hiring managers, recruiters and human resources talent acquisition professionals wonder why this area hasn't evolved, especially as tech is revolutionizing most aspects of business and life. It looks like one company is bringing the staid job board into the future.
I spoke with Hired CEO Josh Brenner to learn more about how his company improves the hiring process, and what he sees happening in the current job market. Hired, a division of one of the largest global staffing and talent firms, the Adecco Group, offers a better, more modern-day solution. The company is the largest AI-driven hiring marketplace that matches talent with top-tier companies, like Dropbox, Coinbase and Zillow. Hired combines intelligent job matching with unbiased career counseling to help people find a job they love and reach their full potential.
Brenner says that the Hired platform serves as the go-to platform for hiring managers, recruiters, and C-level executives to connect with the best talent. Hired is also committed to strengthening equity in the hiring process by offering “a more representative talent pool, using bias reduction features, customized assessments and salary bias alerts to help remove unconscious bias when hiring.”
Kenzo Fong is an experienced Silicon Valley tech executive. He helped build Google Maps and was an early member of Uber Eats. In these capacities, he dealt with globally distributed teams.
Fong found it increasingly frustrating that he had to juggle different incompatible platforms. These different tools aren’t linked to one another. This causes workers to waste a lot of time and energy, frustratingly toggling to various platforms and apps throughout the business day. He says that although many of the products are great, there is redundancy and not much of a major difference between Trello, Asana and other project management tools.
To remedy this situation and make it easier for workers to connect and collaborate, Fong, who often works out of his van, set out on his own to found Rock. The platform is a distributed work company that enables anyone to work from anywhere. Rock was created to work both synchronously and asynchronously. Rather than productivity tools that don’t work together and actually fragment the workflow, he’s developed an all-in-one platform to reduce anxiety and put everyone on the same page.
With Rock, employees from across the world can seamlessly interact via messaging, task creation and integrated video calls. Dissimilar to softwares that not-so-subtly pressure you to always be on call, there are no annoying “pings” late at night. They often create the expectation that we need to be available at all hours of the day. Fong is not a big fan of technology that makes you focus on presentism and face time, instead of doing the actual work that needs to get done.
It's an all-in-one affordable productivity platform for distributed work that combines messaging, tasks, notes, and files in one simple tool that anyone can use. You can start with a free option.
Here’s How Gympass Offers A Smart, Easy Way For Companies To Improve The Physical, Mental And Emotional Wellbeing Of Their Employees
Mental, emotional, physical and health issues have risen to the forefront for both business leadership and workers. We’ve learned harsh lessons during the Covid-19 outbreak. Life is short, frail and precious.
The effects of nearly two years enduring a global massive virus outbreak caused people to become depressed, dependent on drugs and alcohol. Stress and anxiety contributed to people eating too much and sitting on the couch binge watching Netflix. While many bought Peloton bikes, there were a lot of folks who led sedentary lives.
The pandemic made us think deeply about our work and lives. The ‘Great Resignation’ movement exemplifies this mindset. Workers abruptly quit their jobs when they felt that they’re not being treated or paid fairly. Now it feels like we collectively want to change our lives.
To learn more about how corporations can vigilantly look after and help their employees with their overall health, I spoke with Nikki Salenetri, VP of People at Gympass, a leading corporate wellness provider. Her company offers business access to Gympass as a life-improving benefit to their workers.

Billion-Dollar Unicorn And Artificial Intelligence Career-Tech Startup Is Improving The Job Search Experience
In this tight, hot labor market, artificial intelligence is gaining attention as a compelling and effective way to improve the hiring process. Phenom, an Ambler, Pennsylvania-based company, effectively uses artificial intelligence to automate tasks and personalize job searches.
Usually disruptive tech companies are found in Silicon Valley or major tech hubs. Phenom, based in a small town outside of Philadelphia, the startup has quietly become a billion-dollar unicorn.
Phenom CEO Mahe Bayireddi said that his company relies upon AI to match people with the right jobs. This is achieved by helping companies find on-target talent at their companies and promoting them internally. Bayireddi says that his AI enables recruiters to find the right fits faster and job seekers searching for a new opportunity to find appropriate roles without wasting a lot of time. His goal is to find jobs for over one billion people.
Instead of having one platform, its software is embedded into an array of job sites with some of the best and largest companies in the world. The career-tech company has 300 million users and one million jobs posted in 130 countries. With millions of pieces of data, Phenom is able to predict and guide job seekers to the roles that fit their background.
Bayireddi spoke about the current job market, stating that the Great Resignation is a movement that shows the shifting demands and expectations of workers. Employees are in pursuit of greater job flexibility and the desire to feel valued and appreciated.
Mathieu Stevenson is the CEO of Snagajob, one of the largest U.S. platforms for hourly workers. The platform uses sophisticated software to match hourly workers and employers.
There’s been a remarkable turnaround in the demand for workers compared to the millions laid off during the pandemic.
According to Snagajob’s most recent hiring report, about “99% of employers reported they are currently hiring,” and “92% do not have the staff they need to operate at full capacity.” This raises the question; is it a worker shortage or case of not paying enough, or are there other issues at play. “Overall jobs are up 61% compared to pre-pandemic norms,” and 101% year over year growth.” The study shows that the labor shortage we face today is “multifaceted.”
Working with a remote team requires companies to think about much more than where the work happens. The best remote teams operate on a foundation of communication, transparency, and trust. Without that foundation, the productivity increases and improved work-life balance that remote workers enjoy are more difficult to achieve.
The first step to working with remote employees is ensuring you can hire and pay them legally. That’s what we do at Remote: help businesses of all sizes employ and pay their global teams in compliance with local labor laws. If you can’t legally employ someone, you can’t very well work together.
Whether you can legally employ a remote worker depends largely on whether you have a legal entity in the country where the worker lives. Without an entity, you need some help. As you look at solutions for global employment, make sure your chosen partner is an owned-entity provider and not a partner-dependent provider. Pick the wrong type, and you could be in for some nasty surprises down the road.
Becoming a remote-first company simply means coaching your team members and managers to communicate in a way that makes it equally easy for co-located and remote employees to do their best work.
This means holding conversations in ways that allow remote employees to participate at the same level as co-located employees.
There are many different ways to develop culture remotely.
Social Recognition, promoted by Workhuman, is the act of publicly acknowledging people for their contributions. The company takes it a step further by posing the accolades on internal social media.
Others will see this on internal social media, creating an inclusive environment. In addition to posting the kudos online, the person will receive a financial reward to show appreciation for their efforts. It's a way to show that others in the organization recognize and applaud their contributions.
Workhuman offers their platform to a large number of top companies that want to help create a positive, happy and motivated workplace. Peer-to-peer programs create a stronger sense of belonging, and compared to “e-thanks,” and “programs funded at 1% or more of payroll are 86% more likely to be rated as good or excellent.”
California Congressman Mark Takano Introduced Legislation For A Four-Day Workweek
Democratic Congressman Mark Takano introduced legislation on Wednesday that would reduce the standard workweek from 40 hours to 32 hours.
According to Takano's press release about his piece of legislation “A shorter workweek would benefit both employers and employees alike.” He pointed to “Pilot programs run by governments and businesses across the globe have shown promising results as productivity climbed and workers reported better work-life balance, less need to take sick days, heightened morale, and lower childcare expenses because they had more time with their family and children.”
He added that “Shorter workweeks have also been shown to further reduce healthcare premiums for employers, lower operational costs for businesses, and have a positive environmental impact in some of these studies.” Rep. Takano asserts that the workers would benefit from this change as his proposal will allow non-exempt employees to receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 32-hours.
Takano said “At a time when the nature of work is rapidly changing, it’s incumbent upon us to explore all possible means of ensuring our modern business model prioritizes productivity, fair pay, and an improved quality of life for workers.”
He said “I am introducing this legislation to reduce the standard workweek to 32 hours because – now more than ever – people continue to work longer hours while their pay remains stagnant. We cannot continue to accept this as our reality. Many countries and businesses that have experimented with a four-day workweek found it to be an overwhelming success as productivity grew and wages increased.”

It's become fashionable to say that the “American Dream” is dead. Many people feel that the best days are behind us. The pandemic created extraordinary wealth concentrated in a small group of powerful people, while average Americans feel left behind. The humiliating pullout from Afghanistan, supply-chain disruptions and the surge in inflation causing increased costs of everyday items (such as food and gas at the pumps) erodes our confidence.
Sometimes, we need a reminder that despite setbacks, there is hope. The American Dream of immigrating to the United States and creating a better life for your family is still alive and well. Yong Kim was born in South Korea. At an early age, he became infatuated with the U.S. and desperately wanted to emigrate. He begged his parents for years to relocate. As a young adult, Kim boldly left his family and came to America.
With broken English, he tried—mostly unsuccessfully—to find a job. “This was before the days of the internet. Living alone in a foreign country, not knowing anyone and not speaking English, was extremely difficult,” Kim said. Over time, he found his way. He attended the University of Chicago and received a masters and M.B.A. from Harvard. Kim went on to found Wonolo, an on-demand staffing marketplace for blue-collar workers.
The platform connects businesses that have critical temporary staffing needs with workers looking for a gig. Kim conceived of the app based, in part, on his own experiences working at Coke. He noticed that it was hard to quickly find workers and thought that there has to be a better way to both benefit folks looking for part-time work and employers who desperately need to staff up.
With over $200 million in venture capital funding, Kim says that Wonolo has over 1 million people on the platform, predominantly retail, factory, warehouse, fulfillment, hospitality and related types of workers. There are thousands of businesses that seek Wonolo’s help.
Ravi Swaminathan, CEO of TaskHuman: Company-Sponsored, On-Demand, Personalized Live Coaching Is The Latest Trend To Help Improve The Lives Of Workers
We are in a new, exciting era that places the focus of attention on workers. Companies have realized that they need to roll out the red carpet to job seekers and show empathy and appreciation to their current employees. With millions of open jobs each month, and 4 million quitting on a regular monthly basis, executives nervously noticed the sea change. In response, they are offering an array of benefits to attract, recruit and retain people.
It used to be that bosses would throw some more money at a person to make them shut up, put in the long hours and keep working hard. The power dynamic has now dramatically shifted from management to workers. It takes more than a few bucks to entice job hunters to select their company and keep current employees happy and engaged.
Smart entrepreneurs are creating products and services for businesses to offer unique experiences that express appreciation and gratitude to their workforce. Ravi Swaminathan, CEO of TaskHuman, is a progressive, forward-thinking startup founder. He built a unique platform that helps companies combat the current “Great Resignation” culture and win the war for talent. His app offers comprehensive and holistic employee wellness and coaching solutions that improve the quality of lives of workers.
Swaminathan believes employees are the most valuable assets of a company. He is a champion of the concept “come as you are,” which means that business leaders should offer deep personalized support for each employee based upon their individual needs and desires.
When employees are appreciated and offered meaningful ways to enhance and improve their lives, they’ll be more apt to stick with the company. They’ll also be more motivated and productive. “To best future-proof their organization and retain talent, business leaders must create an environment where employees feel valued and are offered resources that help them build healthy behaviors and help the employee feel good about both their personal and work life,” said the TaskHuman chief executive. Swaminathan added, “Employees will see their workplace as an invaluable resource that supports their unique individual lifestyle.”
Rags to riches is a uniquely United States story. It's the American Dream of starting from humble beginnings, working hard, fighting against adversity and making something of yourself. Brian Garish embodies this ethos. Though, his version is a little different. Garish went from stocking shelves at Walgreens to becoming the president of Banfield Pet Hospital, the largest pet hospital chain in the U.S.
He began his career stocking shelves at the local Walgreens pharmacy during high school. Garish dropped out of college after only a six-month stint when he was 18 years-old. It was a trying time. Back at home with his parents, he felt lost without any direction. As he explains, "At the time, I didn't see the value of sitting in class to hear about business. I wanted to do the work." A mentor at the pharmacy chain suggested that Garish focus on working hard and advancing within the organization, especially since he didn’t have any other alternatives.
After serving about 12 years as a manager at Walgreens, then spending more than 10 years rising from district and regional manager roles to area vice president at CVC Health, Garish is now the president of Banfield Pet Hospital, the industry’s leading provider of preventive care, a division of Mars Inc.
The Metaverse Is The Web3 Wave That Democratizes Buying And Building Real Estate, Hosting Fashion Shows, And Monetizing Video Gaming
We’re in the beginning stages of a relatively new revolutionary innovation. The metaverse is the web3 next wave changing the way we’ll socialize, work, play video games, and interact. We’ll soon see business started, office buildings constructed, meetings held for remote workers, and job interviews conducted in virtual reality.
To learn more about metaverse, we spoke with Andrew Kiguel, CEO of Tokens.com, an early real estate investor in virtual reality. The former investment banker recently made headlines with his company’s purchase of real estate in the fashion district of Decentraland, paying around $2.5 million for the space.
Founder and CEO Christoph Fleischmann and his team created Arthur, a virtual and augmented platform enabling companies to conduct business in the metaverse. While the metaverse is currently dominated by gaming and other noncorporate activities, Arthur is offering solutions for enterprises and their employees with virtual reality.
Fleischmann named the company after King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, feeling it was “a nice parallel of meeting together in a specific space.” They are also “big fans of Arthur C. Clarke, a futurist and science fiction author who has been predicting things like Arthur for decades.”
Imagine, after working decades, building up your career, and you’ve reached the pinnacle of success becoming the CEO of a fast-growing company. It must be a great feeling. Then, out of nowhere, a pandemic surges across the world. There’s not enough time to savor the moment, as Covid-19 hit and up-ended everything. This was the position Raul Villar Jr., the CEO at Paycor, found himself in.
With Covid cases spreading, followed by the Delta and Omicron variants, Villar didn’t have much time to savor his new position and had to act quickly in the face of uncertainty and chaos. A message made by the Governor of Ohio, who said that he’d suggest, if possible, to have people work from home for safety reasons, inspired Villar. To bravely move forward, instead of being paralyzed by fear, leaders need to set forth clear priorities and guidance. The Governor’s advice prompted the newly appointed CEO to take the business virtual overnight to protect his team.
Meta Is ‘Ruthlessly” Cutting ‘Laundry Benefits’ And Other Perks, Creating A Panic Among Some Employees
We know times are tough. There were two years of unrelenting stress and anxiety over the pandemic. Inflation has hit record high levels, sending the costs of everything higher. Just when we thought that things were getting better, Russia invaded Ukraine.
Some people are facing even greater challenges. It's hard to believe—and I hope not to frighten you with this new recent disaster—according to the Blind app, Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is “cutting benefits ruthlessly,” including “laundry benefits,” wrote a verified employee of the company.
A new, large-scale global survey shows that corporate management is significantly more satisfied with how they have adjusted to new working norms compared to their employees. It is imperative for leadership to gain insight into how they can help their employees meet their needs and desires.
NTT, a leading global technology company and business solutions provider, has released its Global Workplace Report, offering important insights into the future of work gathered from a survey of 1,146 executives across 23 countries. The results clearly indicate that “business leaders are significantly more satisfied with how they have adjusted to new working norms than their employees are.” This chasm in experiences and expectations highlights that managers are not listening or understanding the mindset and wants of their workers.
In a wide-ranging interview, Alex Bennett, NTT global senior vice president of the workplace and employee experience division, offered color and texture to the international study. One of the biggest takeaways of the report is that “what employees really want is flexibility and support.”
Blind is an app that provides an anonymous forum and community for verified employees to discuss issues. Users on Blind are grouped by topics, company and their broader industry. The app verifies that the registered users actually work in the company through their work email and it keeps user identities untraceable through patented technology.
We’ve all been conditioned to accept being paid every two weeks or longer. While many Americans faced financial hardships during the pandemic, corporations held onto their wages and earned interest on it. By waiting weeks before workers are paid, your company earns interest on your money. This doesn’t seem very fair. There has to be a better system.
Looking into this matter, I spoke with Jeanniey Walden, Chief Innovation and Marketing Officer at DailyPay. Walden says that the two-week pay cycle is based on an antiquated financial system dating back to around 70 years ago. With all our technology, it's irrational to keep doing what we’ve been doing for decades. Her company, DailyPay, made it their goal to envision a better, fairer way to pay people.
Employers now possess the software prowess to provide their workers with the financial wellness they deserve, and can alter the way pay periods work. It's not a cash advance, nor are there any catches. DailyPay is precisely what their name says: a worker can track the pay they’ve accrued, and gain access to it when you want it. The future of work is largely tech-driven, and people can now immediately gain access to their hard earned money without having to wait weeks or longer.
The General Assembly of the National Association of Bonded Warehouses, AC, unanimously re-elected Julio Fernando Smithers Jiménez as its president for the period 2020-2022, who highlighted among his priorities for this new management the participation of ANAFAC in the construction of the new cargo terminal of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, in addition to strengthening sanitary measures for the prevention of Covid-19 in the facilities of its members, with the aim of maintaining the flow of foreign trade.
"For us it is very important to continue helping with the Mexican government as facilitators, to make the flow of merchandise at an international level agile and in this way collaborate with this important part for our country that is the commercial relationship with the world."
Two Young Black Entrepreneurs Started An EdTech School To Help Underserved Groups Pivot Into Fast-Growing, Well-Paying Tech Jobs
A tornado knocking out your building, followed by the Covid-19 outbreak is not a good way to start a business. Despite some early challenges, Joshua Mundy and Quawn Clark founded Pivot Technology School, a fast-growing Tennessee-based EdTech startup. Isaac Y. Addae, an assistant professor at Tennessee State University, joined the duo as Chief Strategy Officer.
The tech training school is a “Black-owned, fully remote technology education hub that supports minorities interested in technology careers.” Its mission is to “empower minority students with in-demand technical skills, in an industry that historically lacks racial diversity, and build a 100 million dollar business.” The company trains “minorities to get into tech roles and are working with corporate partners to upskill their talent.”
"There are less than 3% of minorities that have tech careers and we want to change that paradigm and create pipelines of highly trained talent to these organizations. We want to expose as many adults as possible to coding and data analytics,” said Mundy.
Clark said about the team’s ambitious goals, "Our mission is to create and grow incentive-aligned avenues that empower a highly diverse demographic to break into the technology industry.”
Based in Nashville, it strives to empower an underserved, diverse demographic by providing industry-leading training in high-demand technology skills. Pivot offers cybersecurity, data analytics, web development, full-stack engineering and other coursework, in a 20-week, virtual, boot-camp-style program.
The tech-teaching company has a unique business plan. The EdTech startup seeks out corporate partners that want and need to upskill their current workforce to gain the knowledge and tools to succeed in this new era of rapid change and innovation. The business taps into the Great Resignation trend and war-for-talent, tight job market, as empathetic employers recognize they need to continually train their employees and offer them the ability to grow within the organization; otherwise, they’ll lose their best and brightest talent.
Corporations that are interested in upskilling and retraining employees and offer diversity and inclusion in the workplace turn to Pivot. The school has partnerships with Shipt, a division of Target, and Amazon. Shipt sponsored around 32 individuals who participated in a 20-week program, where they will learn core competencies—ranging from backend development to data analytics.
Belgium Is The Latest Country To Join The Four-Day Workweek
To enhance the quality of the lives of Belgium workers, the European country previously announced that thousands of federal civil servants will no longer have to answer calls or emails from their bosses outside of working hours. Around 65,000 government workers earned “the right to disconnect," in hopes of leading a better work-life balance.
Now, in another employee-empowerment policy, workers in Belgium will be entitled to a four-day workweek.
In addition to Belgium, here are other countries that are piloting a four-day workweek: Scotland, Spain, Japan, Iceland—and maybe the U.S.
If Companies Really Want To Attract Candidates, Offer Them Five-Hour Workdays
Companies concerned about the Great Resignation and trying to find, attract, recruit and retain talent should first do one thing: ask the candidate what they want. It sounds simple, but this doesn’t happen. Businesses offer a take-it-or-leave-it package. Instead of customizing a total salary and benefits plan, they offer a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all policy.
The pandemic has made us think differently. While we want to be paid well, there is more to the picture. Here are some of the things that management should take into consideration when they are interviewing applicants. If businesses are serious about getting the best talent, they need to think outside of the box and become creative. A good place to start is by offering a four or five-hour workday.
The Four Or Five-Hour Workday
There is no reason why a person has to work for eight hours a day. It's an outdated construct from the past. During the last two years of the pandemic, people have worked remotely and spent considerably more than eight hours a day working. They also put in late nights and weekends. Partly this was done, as there wasn’t much else to do during Covid-19 lockdowns. Also, there was the prevalent fear of losing your job.
It became crystal clear that pre-pandemic workers were judged by face time in the office. Now, at home, the metric is output and production. It's more important what a person does than how many hours logged in at the office or on the computer.
Since output and productivity is paramount, why is it necessary to put in eight hours? If you are able to get your work assignments accomplished and exceed expectations within five hours, wouldn’t it be fair to call it a day? Businesses have no qualms about making you work late hours if a project needs to get done. If you're ordered to put in the extra hours, it's only fair to clock out when you finish your work, and the work product is exemplary.
A four or five-hour workday would be seen as an employee benefit. It doesn't have to be for everyone. For those interested, the tradeoff is that they will have to get in on time, work diligently without any internet shopping searches and remain dedicatedly focused. If you are able to produce what is expected or exceed expectations, you’re out by around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.
Flexible Staggered Hours
A record number of women left the workforce due to school closures and the lack of affordable childcare. A big issue during the pandemic was that many working mothers felt the pressure to leave their jobs to take care of their children. It was particularly challenging as public schools closed and the kids had to endure irritating online video classes that necessitated parental help. A flexible and staggered work schedule would smooth out these types of problems.
To accommodate working parents, particularly mothers who usually bear the brunt of childcare, wouldn’t it be reasonable to offer flexible, staggered hours? Let’s say there are dual-working parents with demanding jobs. One of the parents could start their day at about 10:00 a.m. after dropping the kids off at school. At the end of the workday, at about 3 p.m. or 4 p.m., the partner would leave to pick their child up from daycare or preschool.
There’s An Uplifting Movement To Teach CEOs And Executives To Empathetically Treat Workers Humanely
After nearly two years of enduring a brutal pandemic, we’re having to cope with Omicron surging. Despite the overhang of gloom, we see people striving to make this world a better place.
Pre-pandemic it was a standard and accepted practice to have dictatorial CEOs, executives and middle managers rule with an iron fist without any concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of their workers.
The virus outbreak has made many leaders rethink the way they manage their staff. In a war-for-talent and Great Resignation era, they finally realized it's imperative to display empathy and enact employee-centric policies and procedures to empower their workforce. From a practical standpoint, taking great care of workers is one of the best ways to attract, recruit and retain people.
A leader in this new humanistic approach towards managing people is the Potential Project. The global organization has a bold mission to vastly improve the lives of workers by training and teaching leadership how to effectively and humanely run their companies.
The Potential Project, a Danish based consulting firm, has a global roster of top companies advises an impressive roste of corporate clients including Cisco, IKEA, Microsoft, Unilever, Pfizer, Disney and Accenture.
The organization educates C-suite executives to keep employees feeling happy and engaged. Potential Project calls for a modern day model for leadership, focused on making work more “human-centric” by prioritizing compassion and reducing busyness and creating a more human work world.
Jacqueline Carter, is the director of North America at Potential Project and author of the forthcoming book “Compassionate Leadership: How to do Hard Things in a Human Way.” She is involved with leadership development, change management, consulting, and research along with her colleagues around the world.
The management consulting firm has helped over 550,000 individuals at more than 600 clients to adopt new ways of working and leading. Potential Project delivers solutions globally in 28 countries in 17 languages, in-person and digitally.
Carter points to Satya Nadella, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, and CHRO Kathleen Hogan as examples of progressive leadership. She says that the tech giant exemplifies what new leadership really looks like—the ability to combine a drive for high performance with a drive for high care for employees.
In an interview on Yahoo news, Carter said about Nadella, I think he's humble and he’s really committed to being able to support the development of people. She highlights that the tech CEO possesses two attributes that are the cornerstone of leadership. The first is having a growth mindset. This mindset means you are willing to let go of things that don’t work and switch gears to try different ways of innovating.
Nadella’s leadership is built upon his focus on empathy. He has the ability to see, feel and connect with others. He infused these two principles into the culture of Microsoft.
Carter says that this is what employees today are looking for. They want leaders to be able to make sure that they can make the tough decisions, drive the results, and also create an environment of flexibility, where workers feel cared for, connected and have a sense of belonging, meaning and purpose.
One of the ways to do this is by offering daily pulse checks to determine how the staff is feeling. It's just a simple question to all of their employees worldwide and to be able to find out, how are we doing today?
In A Big Win For Workers—New York City Will Make It Mandatory For Companies To Disclose Salaries On Job Advertisements
It feels like almost everyone is looking for a new job. There are about 11-million jobs available, and each month millions of Americans quit their positions in pursuit of better opportunities. One of the most important aspects of a new job is the compensation. Up until now, the overwhelming majority of companies conveniently left out the salary from their job advertisements.
Lost in the holiday season and the surge in Omicron, there was a piece of great news that went overlooked. Under a new law passed by the New York City Council—which will go into effect in April 2022 if not vetoed by January 14, 2022— employers in New York City will have to include the minimum and maximum starting salary for any "advertised job, promotion or transfer opportunity."
This will be a complete game changer, and bode well for both people searching for a new job and current employees. The piece of legislation pulls back the curtain on salaries, which has often been viewed as a deep dark hidden secret by corporate executives. This unfair one-sided way of doing business is detrimental to the person seeking out a new job.
An applicant would be forced to interview with three to six plus people for up to six months. After the culmination of the arduous emotionally draining interview process, an offer could be made that is far below the expectations of the eager candidate.
The ordeal was a complete waste of time and energy for everyone involved in the hiring process. The experience looks bad on the company. The disheartened job hunter will surely share this horror story on social media and with friends which could make it harder for the company to recruit people in the future.
Even in this hot, tight job market, the interview process usually entails enduring some rude behaviors, cancellations of interviews at the last moment, lack of feedback, getting ghosted and receiving a lowball offer. When the new law comes into practice, things will be different.
A person will have the ability to see the salary range and make an informed decision to pursue the role or not. There would no longer be any guesswork or wishing that the money will be there at the end of the interview ordeal, as the job hunter will have the compensation range up front.
The bill, which passed with a 41 to 7 vote, states that employers who fail to list minimum and maximum salary ranges for New York City-based roles are engaging in discriminatory practices. This bill applies to advertisements for both private and public sector jobs, as well as promotions and transfer opportunities.
Council member, Helen Rosenthal, said of the new law, “Lack of salary transparency is discriminatory and anti-worker,” and “Every New Yorker should have the right to determine whether they will be able to support themselves and their family when they apply for a job. It is time to level the playing field, and restore some dignity to New Yorkers seeking employment.”
There are pay transparency laws already in California and Colorado, and it's likely with New York aboard, this will spread throughout the country.
In a fairly recent new law enacted by a number of states, it was ordered that businesses couldn’t ask a job hunter how much they earn and what was their salary history. Although it's not a law in all states, a significant number of companies based in locations that don’t have to abide by the ruling, voluntarily adhere to this ‘no questions about compensation will be asked’ policy.
There will be positive, and some unintended consequences resulting from this new rule.
It's Time For Job Seekers To Get Paid for Interviewing
We are in a hot job market. Businesses—ranging from mom-and-pop shops to mammoth global companies, such as Apple and Amazon—are desperately trying to find workers. Managers are also fearful of losing their best and brightest to their competitors.
You’d think in this war-for-talent environment, corporate leaders would bend over backward to attract and retain talent. Many empathetic companies have offered free college tuition payments, remote and hybrid work options, along with mental health days off, Zoom-free Fridays and other initiatives, in an effort to improve the working lives of employees.
There is one aspect that hasn’t changed with the times. Job hunters are still being treated shabbily. They are forced to endure a gauntlet of three to 10 interviews, spanning up to six months. In between meetings, there are gaps of communication and an absence of feedback, which makes applicants wonder what is going on.
Companies arrogantly feel that it is an acceptable practice to make applicants complete tasks. Employers assign work under the guise of seeking to learn if the applicant has the skills for the role.
The requirements range from coding a website, submitting ideas about how to solve a real-life issue that the firm is dealing with to asking a graphic artist to submit samples for the company’s new logo.
These and other undertakings require a significant amount of time and energy. You often hear complaints from candidates that say the company used their ideas without obtaining their permission, nor were they offered any acknowledgement of compensation.
We all know that the job market is incredibly challenging. Companies are having great difficulties finding people, and when they do, they’re subjected to spending hours going to meetings and running the risk of having their bosses find out and potentially losing their jobs. Given this fact pattern, shouldn't companies start paying candidates for their time?
Since this doesn’t already happen, you may feel that this doesn't make sense. Pre-pandemic, we all thought remote work or becoming a digital nomad at scale was impossible. Now, it's been a proven success, as the economy rebounded, the stock market hit record new highs and real estate prices went through the roof.
Consider this—if a company pays an applicant for each interview, even if it's a token amount, they’ll have skin in the game, especially if the firm has tens of thousands of employees, and interviews a significant number of people on a daily basis. All of a sudden, the CEO and C-suite will pay rapt attention to the interview process, as it's costing them money.
When an executive knows that candidates will be paid, the number of interviews will be scrutinized. The CFO will question the necessity of paying a candidate to go on nine interviews instead of wrapping up the process in one day with maybe two interviewers. When you multiply out all of the interviews they force an applicant to undergo, by the amount of interviews that take place on a weekly or monthly, the costs will be substantive.
In a belt-tightening measure, management will quickly issue an edict to slash down the number of interviews, whenever practical. This policy will push hiring managers, recruiters, human resources and talent acquisition professionals to pay rapt attention to how many interviews are really necessary.
Furthermore, hiring personnel will have to be taught how to render a decision on their own without relying upon a consensus from 10 other people—most of whom are loosely connected with the job.
What Leaders Need To Do About The Great Disengagement At Work
As a society, we are more disconnected from one another than ever before. The pandemic sent us home from work. After some adjustment time, we appreciated the benefits of not needing to commute, and having autonomy over our schedule. We weren’t prepared for the downside, feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Isolation
Even if you didn’t love your coworkers, you missed your work wife or husband, and the everyday camaraderie. Being cooped up in a cramped apartment with your children or operating out of a spare room in the house which was retrofitted as an office, you lost touch with the outside world.
We have been through two dreadful years worried about catching or spreading the disease. For many, our primary source of social interaction came from Zoom calls, the Amazon and DoorDash deliver people. Day after day, the ties of old friendships frayed, and we drifted apart from work colleagues and society.
The Gap Between Multi Billionaires And Workers
Millions of Americans were furloughed or fired during the pandemic. While that happened, the CEOs were lavishly paid. In an unanticipated set of events, the stock market cratered in early 2020 and then skyrocket higher setting all time record highs. Top executives and CEOs made fortunes.
The gap between the average worker and leadership was larger than ever before. Seeing Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos and others earn millions and billions of dollars, while you’re just trying to hang on, made people bitter and resentful. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that workers are having a tough time being engaged in their work.
Employee Engagement
Employee engagement is a term used to gauge how involved employees are with the company. It measures a worker’s drive, participation, motivation and commitment. Being engaged at work is critical for the success of the individual, business and customers. If a person loves what she does for a living, derives meaning and purpose in her daily responsibilities, she’ll do a great job. Her boss, peers, subordinates, and customers will appreciate her efforts and show their gratitude.
If you are happy and invested in the company, and know that you’re appreciated, people will notice. Customers and clients will sense that you care. Conversely, if you are dissatisfied and disgruntled, you’ll make everyone you interact with feel miserable.
According to a recent Gallup poll, only 33% of American workers are engaged in their jobs. Over 50% self-reported that they're "just showing up," and 17% describe themselves as "actively disengaged."
What Happens When You’re Disengaged
Disengaged workers lack real close connection to their job. They go through the motions. It's a less than nine-to-five attitude. They’ll likely talk badly about a manager behind their back, gossip, spread rumors and treat customers and clients rudely. There’s no interest in participating in company events and outings. This toxic attitude is like a cancer growing, destroying everything around it.
It is up to company leadership to ensure that people are engaged. They need to make sure that whether it's in the office or remotely, the employee feels comfortable, appreciated and happy. Leadership must outline a set of core values that instill a feeling of trust, respect, dignity, appreciation and career growth.
Psychological Safety
Offer psychological safety. This means that as part of the overall culture, it's okay to fail. If you make a mistake you won’t be publicly chastised or fired. This philosophy will enhance engagement as workers will feel that if they aren’t perfect, fail to meet a deadline or have trouble dealing with a task, that it's okay. The boss and company will understand and get you the help you need to do your job. This could entail offering the services of mentors, coaches, continual education, upskilling and training.
The surge of the Delta variant has prompted New York City and state officials to take swift action.
Mayor Bill de Blasio recommended that residents of the city wear masks when inside with crowds, even if you’re vaccinated.
The Mayor will also be initiating a “Key to NYC Pass,” which is like the Covid-19 passport talked about a few months ago. It's a carrot-and-stick approach, as people will be required to show that they are vaccinated if they want to go to restaurants, gyms and other events. No vaccinations, no entrance.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, similar to de Blasio, is pushing for people to get vaccinated. He’s requesting private businesses, such as bars and restaurants, to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19, as a condition for admission to their establishments. The governor also called for a vaccine mandate for employees of the state’s MTA and Port Authority, similar to his previous order for state hospital employees.

A study conducted by SHRM indicates that nearly 70% of supervisors believe that remote workers are “more easily replaceable than onsite workers.” About 62% contend that “full-time remote work is detrimental to employees’ career objectives and 72% say they would prefer all of their subordinates to be working in the office.”
The negative perceptions of supervisors should send a warning to all companies. Executive management must take notice and ensure that their managers are sufficiently trained and equipped to oversee the future of work, which will predominantly include hybrid and remote models.
The companies that get this and develop well-trained empathetic managers, who bridge the gaps by ensuring that both in-office and at-home personnel are being treated equally, with respect and dignity, will do well. These companies will be able to attract and retain the best talent.

This may seem unfair. You’d like to believe that when you’re interviewing for a job, all that counts is your background and experience. That’s only a part of it. Of course the interviewer and hiring manager cares about your skills, responsibilities, expertise and knowledge. However, while these traits are important, there are some smart hacks to win over the hiring manager in the interview.
You have to enter the arena knowing that it will be rough. You’ll be met with indifference and rejection. There will be three to more than ten interviews conducted over six months. You’re thrust into an uncomfortable game. It's not easy for most people to turn on charm and charisma when the interview starts. It feels that the process is one-sided and the company holds all the cards. Going on a number of interviews with no end in sight with little feedback could be exhausting.
Interviewing is similar to playing a sport. You might find yourself playing a tough adversary, but once you get how the game is played, you’ll be prepared, ready to overcome all the obstacles, hurdles and will prevail.

The time off is critical to improving the mental health and emotional well-being of workers. This move also benefits the companies offering the program. It's so simple that it's surprising they haven’t done this before. Companies that show appreciation and take care of their people will have a highly motivated and happier workforce. An energized team will vastly improve results at the company, creating a better atmosphere for both executives and workers.
Additionally, new legislation is being introduced that could mean a shortened workweek for U.S. workers.

If you are contemplating leaving your employer and have already thought through this important decision, here is a classy way to tender your resignation without burning any bridges and maintain good relations with your former boss and co-workers.

Since remote work has shown that it is beneficial for both workers and management, it makes sense to see what other standardly accepted practices need to be adjusted. Why is it necessary to work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., five days a week, in a sterile cubicle farm with harsh fluorescent lights, little access to window views, sitting in uncomfortable chairs, poor ventilation and its either too hot or cold?
Instead of the 9-to-5, it would make more sense for companies to ask their employees what type of schedules would work best for them.
With the mass resignations taking place, it's clear that workers are voting with their feet. Smart, progressive and forward-thinking companies will scuttle the 9-to-5 schedules, in a bid to attract job seekers.

There is a growing groundswell of doomsaying about the Delta variant. At this point in the pandemic, it's hard to know what and who to believe.
The uncertainty may cause companies to think twice about their return-to-the-office plans. If this strain spreads, like it's doing in other countries, workers would protest over being required to commute back to work. Corporations would be open to liabilities for pushing people to possibly endanger themselves.
Whether this strain rapidly spreads or not, the possibility of this happening may push companies to rethink their hybrid and back-to-the-office plans.

The Covid-19 outbreak was brutal and impacted more than our health. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs since the outbreak started over a year and a half ago.
Although everyone knows how bad things were, companies have short memories. You’d like to believe that hiring personnel would have empathy. Sadly, that’s not always the case. Many employers are digging into what people have been doing during the pandemic.
There is a not-so-subtle inference that something may be wrong with the applicant. They feel that the person may be of less quality because they haven’t been hired already. It's a repugnant practice, but it's all too common.

The United States government recently reported that there were 9.2 million jobs available. The abundance of opportunities available seems amazingly high. The number of jobs open nearly matches the amount of people searching for a new position.
You’d think with so many roles remaining available, hiring would be red-hot and the unemployment rate plummet. However, this isn't happening. The simplest explanation is that there is a big mismatch going on in the job market.

Remote workers point to violence, crime and a decrepit mass transit system as reasons not to return to New York City offices.
New York City has a crime, violence, drug and homelessness problem. This could have serious repercussions for people contemplating returning to work at their offices.
Gun violence has become so rampant that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo “issued the first-in-the-nation executive order declaring gun violence in New York as a disaster emergency."
Residents of New York and the neighboring commuting Tri-State area, including New Jersey and Connecticut, are pushing back on returning, citing both physical and health safety reasons.

The job market has heated up and so have the complaints from job seekers.
There is outrage over being pressured to undergo three to 10 interviews over six months or more. Some are asked to take tests, do projects or sit for invasive psychometric exams. There’s a lack of feedback and long periods of an absence of communication. No appreciation is extended to applicants for their time. Rude and dismissive treatment is commonplace. After all of the meetings, they complain of getting ghosted.
The situation can be improved. It's not too hard to initiate modest improvements.
Tune in for suggestions that corporations can incorporate that would dramatically improve the interviewing experience for people.

With over 9 million jobs available and a war for talent going on, the prevailing narrative is to quit your job and find something better. This concept is very American. We are a unique country composed of self-reliant mavericks who do what we want. We’re not fond of taking orders from and putting up with tyrants and bullies.
If your boss and corporate executives lack empathy, compassion and micromanage your worklife, it may be time to rebel. Let them know your feelings. Tell your supervisors what you want and what you won’t put up with. If they don't listen or care, it's time to move on.
Before you take the “Great Resignation” advice to abruptly resign, please consider the following to make sure it's the right thing for you to quit.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, recently told his global workforce of 137,000 employees that they’d have to return to the office beginning early September. It's expected that employees will spend about three days a week at the office and the other two at home or remotely.
In an open letter to Cook, some employees of Apple voiced their concerns about returning to an in-person office setting stating, “We feel like the current policy is not sufficient in addressing many of our needs.”
Despite protests from workers, Apple is remaining resolute in its position.

The pandemic brought us a lot of pain, but it also opened our eyes. We no longer need to be shackled to an office eight to 10 hours a day, five days a week.
