As a Christian whose sins are already forgiven through the finished work of Christ, is it wrong to ask forgiveness for indwelling sin as I continue to grow? Should I focus on “confessing and repenting” of continual sin, as opposed to asking “forgiveness”?
How do the Bible and science relate to each other? Specifically regarding origin of the universe, and age of the earth, and evolutionary processes?)
I’ve never had a problem believing in creation and believing in science. My God made man and my God created science as well. He is big enough to have done both. The Bible doesn’t tell us everything about creation, it doesn’t tell us how long a day was. It could have been 24 hours. It could have been 24,000 years. I live in Norman, there is a museum of natural history right down the street. To deny that the dinosaurs existed seems almost ludicrous. Why isn’t more said about how the Bible and science are related and how one offers explanations for the other. After Doug’s sermon last Sunday this and other related questions seem to be popping into my brain. I don’t believe that I was formed when two molecules accidentally collided in a pool of mud. But if that’s how God wanted to do it, who am I to question. I believe the Bible is the infallible word of God. Why can’t we use it to help explain science.

In Job 1, why is it called the “fire of God” when it was really fire from Satan?) In Job 1, God gives Satan permission to attack all that Job has. Verse 16 says the fire of God fell from heaven. Why was this called the "fire of God" when it was really fire from Satan? Was this an unique power granted by God for this limited purpose or does Satan really have the power to cause supernatural events like this on earth, but he can't exercise it due to God's intervention? Or did God do this (described as fire of God) at Satan's request as part of proving His point to Satan that Job was righteous and wouldn't reject Him? (because all other recordings of fire falling from heaven are by God)
In Luke 9, James and John ask Jesus if He wants THEM to call down fire from heaven. I can imagine why they might say "Jesus, why don't YOU call down fire from heaven". Why did James and John think that they had the ability to summon fire down from heaven?
What does it mean to submit to your husband?) I know it says “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” However, what does this mean? In what aspects is this to be done and when are we going against God if we don’t or aren’t submitting?

When I was growing up churches usually called the place where we met (room where worship services were held) the sanctuary but I have noticed that most churches call that space the worship center or auditorium. I feel like sanctuary is supposed to point back to the Old Testament for example: Exodus 25:8 ESV "And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst." But anyways I have noticed that Augusta and I are the only ones that call it that in our friend group so I would be curious to know what our church thinks about the shift? And was the shift intentional for churches as a whole (not just our church)
Can a person be delivered from hell in their dying moments by believing in Christ as they are entering hell? I’ve heard people tell about dying in the hospital and while on their way to hell and torment remembered the gospel witness of family and friends and trusted in Christ. Then when resuscitated they lived to tell the story.

What does James mean by “faith without works is dead”?
You talked about Christians receiving new bodies when Jesus returns. I know when I experience death my soul will immediately be in the presence of Jesus, so are the saved in Heaven in a spiritual state without bodies until Jesus raises the dead in Christ? What about Enoch (Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5), Elijah (2 Kings 2:11) and Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:3) that didn’t experience death?

I’ve enjoyed the Chosen video series and appreciate that it was added to the church app. I didn’t grow up in church and always assumed the Bible heroes lived at an almost superhuman level. The Chosen seems to help fill in the gaps between stories and shows the disciples and Jesus as very human. What are your thoughts?

Weekends are typically two days of leisure break from work and/or school. Exodus 20:8 tells us to keep the Sabbath holy. In Isaiah 58:13-14 God promises wayward Israel blessings if they will again honor this holy day and seek God. Are we honoring the Sabbath and keeping it holy by coming to church and recreating the rest of the day or should we have additional intentional acts or focuses for ourselves and our family on Sunday to keep a focus on honoring our Lord and recognizing the holiness of the day?

When the Bible talks about a coming new heavens and new earth, is the new heavens referring to space or where God lives?
How did the Jewish leaders explain the temple curtain being torn in Matt. 27:51? With the size of the curtain it presumably would have taken a long time to remake as they couldn't have just stitched it up since it must be one piece of fabric. So likely there would have been questions? Also it's interesting that we have the detail the curtain was torn top to bottom so likely an eyewitness one of the Priests or the High Priest going and telling it happened?
3. We studied the names of God, specifically Yahweh (Hebrew). But as we continued to study variants on that name it was, for example, Jehovah shalom. Why that Greek/Hebrew combo instead of Yahweh shalom? (Hebrew/Hebrew)

I was thinking about Pastor Doug’s sermon on Psalm 23 and about a recent SS lesson on the Messianic nature of Isaiah 53, and this was my question: When reading Psalm 23 could it be prophetic of things Jesus would do in addition to showing us how the LORD is our Shepherd/Jehovah Rohi? When we said the Apostles’ Creed, what does it mean “he descended to hell” then after 3, rose to heaven? Is it just symbolic? Jesus told the thief that he would be with him today in paradise, and Jesus wasn’t a prisoner of hell, so why do we say that he descended into hell?

“Of course. ‘Gentle Jesus’, my elbow! The most striking thing about Our Lord is the union of great ferocity with extreme tenderness. (Remember Pascal? ‘I do not admire the extreme of one virtue unless you show me at the same time the extreme of the opposite virtue. One shows one’s greatness not by being at an extremity but by being simultaneously at two extremities and filling all the space between.’)”
This would seem to be in line with Ecclesiastes chapter 3 and I would like to hear your thoughts on verse 8 in relation to the Lewis and Pascal quotes. Thank you

EPISODE 6
Randy – What are practical ways for me to love my enemy (Matthew 5:44), since they don’t want to be around me—and any time they are it’s an awkward and painful situation for me (and probably for them too)?
Doug – Whenever I’m praying privately, my mind wanders to 100 different things. Why is this? And how can I battle against it?
Daniel – Is it ok for me to feel a sense of accomplishment/satisfaction in my work that is not vocational ministry?
EPISODE 5
Doug – How can I know God’s will for my life about personal decisions that aren’t directly mentioned in the Bible—like what college to attend or if to attend, what career path to take, where to live, who to marry or if to marry, etc.?
Randy – In Leviticus why did God give commands about things that don’t seem to matter or seem harmless? (mixed fabrics, mixed crops, haircuts, etc.—what’s the deal with this weird stuff?)
Daniel – I know God doesn’t cause temptation, but what about trials? I know He allows trials and uses them, but are they from Him?

This week’s podcast answers these three questions:
Does every believer get the Holy Spirit? If so, how does He affect our lives? Assuming both are believers, are there any doctrines on which you and a potential spouse can disagree? Who is “this generation” in Matthew 24:34?
If you’d like to submit a question for next week’s podcast, you can text or email Daniel Snow, daniels@myshbc.com. All questions are kept anonymous.
This week's podcast answers these three questions: - If God uses even tragedies for his purposes, is it wrong for me to pray for solutions? - How should I love God and my neighbor during this pandemic? - How do I know if I'm taking a Bible verse out of context? Give it a listen, share with a friend, and submit a question for next week!
