With the end of development camps around the NHL there isn't much on ice product to speak of until September. We at the Forecheck however continue to stride forward. Two players have called it a career...Michael Stone and Patric Hornqvist. We take a look at a few value UFA's still available as of this show; Bear, Dumba, Comtois and Suter. We also discuss why Filip Zadina is available and what to expect from Milan Lucic this upcoming season. Finally we spend most of the show waxing poetic over this year's Bruins Development Camp. With the awards and the draft behind us, we focus on the start of Free Agency. The show starts with a focus on some signings and draftees, turning our attentions to the Phildelphia Flyers. The big story of the day is the hostile takeover of the PHF by the PWHPA. There is quite a bit to digest here but we attempt to break it into smaller pieces (with a little emotion mixed in). We re-direct and talk about what the local organization has done with the draft and free agency (again...emotions play a bit part) and what they could do going forward. Throughout the show we mix in the results of 3 Twitter Polls that were conducted over the last week. We touch on Development Camp and review the prospects we focused on pre-draft. With the playoffs over, we at the Forecheck turn our attention to the future and the upcoming NHL Draft. First, we start with a conversation regarding Gary Bettman's comments to Elliotte Friedman from the Board of Governors meeting. Jersey nights (Pride, Hockey Fights Cancer, etc.), Salary Cap, the Coyotes Future and other topics were broached. Ryan Johansen was dealt to the Avalanche along with half his salary for Alex Galchenyuk. Mike and Chris break down 12 potential draftees at this year's shindig. There was only one crossover with none of the prospects ranked higher than 45. We put out a poll regarding Ullmark's future with the Bruins, and the results were inconclusive. Finally, our fave agent, Allan Walsh, made his feelings known once again with a tweet regarding the starting salaries of number one draft picks for 3 of the 4 major sports. As the Stanley Cup has been passed around, we congratulate the Vegas Golden Knights on their victory! The Conn Smyth was awarded to Jonathan Marchessault, but as we discuss, there were a few candidates for the accolade. There is one name which may not get on the cup however, Robin Lehner. We talk about whether he should be there, how it could happen, etc. William Karlsson had a celly to remember during the Victory Party at Toshiba Park, one which had to be controlled by Caylee Allard, which she did admirably! Jesper Bratt re-signed with the Devils, who also traded Damon Severson to the Blue Jackets. If Matthews were to be extended, what would the impact be to the Leafs. O.E.L. has been bought out by the Canucks, where are some potential landing spots? We identify 3. Washington Hockey Now identified 4 centers the Caps should check out. We break the list down. Finally, John LeClair has been brought in by the Flyers as Special Advisor to Hockey Operations. Getting the band back together they are in Philly, with Briere, Jones and now LeClair. The Stanley Cup Final is more than half over. The Golden Knights are returning to Vegas up 3-1 and looking to close it out at home. Here at the Forecheck, we are closing out another strong episode as we discuss the Eichel hit from Game 2, the fallout & fan reaction, the Tkachuk hit and possible injury. We break down game 4 and the series up to this point. Mike and Chris propose two more trades for teams that need to be blown up. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Connor Hellebuyck have both stated that they would not re-up with the Winnipeg Jets, so we discuss why and potential landing spots. The Stanley Cup Final has begun! Game one on Saturday night was entertaining and filled with action and physicality. We start the show talking about another tournament...the IIHF World Championships. The U.S. finished out of the medals after starting undefeated, at one point being 5,0,0,0. We touched on various players for a few teams, but one in particular, Milan Lucic, wants to continue in the NHL but will he get a contract anywhere? Mike and Chris both brought deals to the show for teams that we believe should have suffer an earth-shattering kaboom. Which deal is more realistic and more helpful...we leave you to decide that. We break down game one of the Final and make our pick for who will win. Surprise...we don't agree. Matthew Tkachuk was featured in People magazine, not to be named "Sexiest Man of the Year", but for an actual sports story about him and his career to this point. The Two Man Forecheck then looked at the collapse of the Penguins as the result of an article in the Athletic and broke down why they really fell apart. Well, the Dallas Stars are proving more stubborn than we thought. The West has still not been settled so the Panthers sit and wait for an opponent. We start in Vegas, where they are apparently having some difficulty closing out said Stars. Could this be a pattern of their head coach? Jake Oettinger has been stellar in elimination games and Max Domi has proven to be a valuable dead line acquired asset. Jordan Staal is a UFA, but where would be his best landing spot? Daniel Briere has stated that he is open to trading the "savior" of the franchise, Carter Hart after admitting that the team is definitely in a rebuild. With the conference finals underway, we are streaking toward the end of the season and there is still so much to talk about. With the Eastern Conference settled and the West done tonight, we march on to the the next series with another episode. As we are on the cusp of the NHL Playoffs, we delve into the format the NHL got right. Jonathan Toews has been told by the Chicago staff that they will not be re-signing him at the end of the season. What does that mean for the 3 time cup winner? The IIHF Women's World Championship final is tonight (04/16). It is a familiar matchup between the U.S. and Canada. As we face the last week of the regular season, there are still a couple things up in the air...playoff spots, who will play, records to be broken, etc. We dive into these topics and more as we start with what may be a tough time for Ovechkin as his Washington Capitals may be facing something he was promised would not happen...a rebuild. There is another top tier player on the Oilers who isn't getting much hype...Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Mason Lohrei and Luke Hughes have signed deals (albeit different types) with the teams that drafted them. Quinnipiac has won the NCAA college ice hockey championship...Congrats on a great season! Joel Ericksson Ek is out week to week after blocking a shot. What does that mean for the Wild? TNT had the B's/Blues broadcast and it was hockey gold when Paul Bissonette interviewed Brad Marchand. As we continue our march towards the playoffs, records continue to fall. But first we start with Jordan Binnington getting suspended for two games. With the all star weekend in the books, we turn our attention to the trade deadline. The Isles have kicked us off, acquiring Bo Horvat from the Canucks. But will they keep him? The Washington Capitals appear to have some defense issues, as none of them are signed beyond this season with the exception of John Carlson. Buccigross tweeted out that the NHL needs 100 Marchands and not goals above expected, which leads to a frank discussion of his possibly getting into the hall of fame based on a Peter Tenkrat tweet. The main portion of the show revolves around Gary Bettman and his 30 years as commissioner of the NHL as well as the TV ratings, which are in decline. Its the last week of January and the All Star Weekend and Trade Deadline are fast approaching. The rumors are heating up but there are other issues to discuss as well. We start in Florida, where the team is struggling to meet expectations. We move northwest to Vancouver where the reality show is in full swing, with the GM actively interviewing head coach candidates and Boudreau is getting emotional. Krejci has come out and stated among other things in a long quote (thanks Ty Anderson), that the coaching change in Boston has been good. Toews is rumored to be on the move out of Chicago and could land in Boston and the rumors swirl around Horvat. There has even been an asking price put out there by Jeff Marek. Jaxson Stauber could be a reason the 'Hawks miss out on Bedard as he looked good in a 5-3 win over the Blues, his first in the NHL. John Gibson has moved into 2nd place all time for wins on the Ducks. Congrats to both of them! We pose the question should Corey Crawford be a hall of famer? Jim Montgomery gave a quote after the Bruins/Leafs game on the 15th that seems to indicate that the players are in charge. As the calendar rolls over into the year 2023, we at the Two Man Forecheck wish everyone a fabulous new year and much luck in whatever you do! Here we continue with the hockey talk, but start with sad news of the passing of Kris Letang's father. He wasn't scheduled to play today however this is a blow to the Letang family and we send our prayers and condolences to them. Matthew Poitras recorded a hat trick on December 28 and was player of the night. The Bruins may have something here based on his performance over the last season and a half. Jamie Benn has moved into second in goals scored for the Dallas Stars, but is still 200+ goals behind Mike Modano. Will Jamie catch him? Patrice Bergeron is in 3rd in points for Bruins all time with Esposito (an ongoing theme), but is there any movement in other categories for the 5 time Selke winner? Connor Bedard is clearly going to be the number one overall pick this year, but his WJC stats indicate that he is clearly something special. Ovi has recorded his 30th hat trick of his career, which puts him at 806. He will catch Gretzky, but will he get to 1,000 goals? Finally we close out the first show of the new year with some second half questions that can only be answered over the course of the next few months. Christmas has come and gone, and we continue for the break to come to an end, but there is still plenty to talk about. The World Junior Tournament has started and the Canadian team has lost a game! We also looked at a couple B's prospects taking part in the tourney. We start the show with the investigation into the B's signing of Mitchell Miller only to have no misconduct found on their part. It was to be independent, but since the B's paid for it, independence comes into question. The Hamburglar, Andrew Hammond, has retired due to an injury which he will not fully recover from in his ankle. We look back at an older show and discover that there has not been much change in the officiating in the NHL while breaking down a college game where a player was given a major penalty for an incident that wasn't as well as a knee to knee hit by Sam Bennett. The calendar has shifted to December so we now have to start believing in the standings. Devils are on their way and the Kraken are as well. Brock Boeser is swirling in the rumor mill again, but this time it may be for real. Here we also dive into the most recent Athletic NHL Power Rankings from December 2. Kris Letang had a stroke and is out indefinitely. While not his first, he has said he will be back soon and we wish him a speedy, full recovery. Mitch Marner is on a ridiculous 19 game point streak which no one is talking about. Roope Hintz signed an 8 year extension which will pay him more than Jason Robertson, but we can explain it. The new year is behind us, the virus is around us and the NHL pushes on, so we will as well. Evander Kane will have his contract terminated by the San Jose Sharks in another move to get the much maligned winger out of town. His money will help re-sign Tomas Hertl among others this off-season. Where could he land? The Calgary Flames deal for a new arena has died and they will continue to play in the Saddledome, but at least they have a home. The Arizona Coyotes will be homeless as of June 30th. To quote the Glendale AZ city manager, Kevin Phelps, "We decided we weren't going to wait until the kids were out of high school to get the divorce." The NHL could not get the owner of the Phoenix Suns to help out, and a new arena will take as much as 6 years to build. Where will they be next season? Tuukka Rask has signed a professional tryout with the Providence Bruins, but may not play for them before joining the big club. David Krejci, who has multiple times stated that he will not be returning to the B's, is puzzled by the move of Pastrnak to the second line. The World Juniors were cancelled for the men after announcing that the women's tournament was cancelled. Could there have been backlash over cancelling one and not the other? Dmitri Samorukov played in his first NHL game and only saw 2:28 of ice time before being benched for the remainder. How much psychological damage have the Oilers done to this player? The IIHF however has cancelled the women's U18 tourney, to be played in Sweden, and folks aren't happy about it. There are always predictions regarding who will win the IIHF tournament but McKeens has taken it a bit further and voted on many aspects of the competition. Before being traded to the Golden Knights, Jack Eichel was offered to the Anaheim Ducks. The return on the deal was laughable and in need of conversation. We break down four former Bruins who are succeeding in their new organizations. The Fujimagari family was reunited after being apart for two years. Kavalchuk, who has not officially retired from hockey, has been named new GM of the Russian National Team. We delve into this and the coaches that have been named as well. Matt Shasby has been dubbed the new head coach of the University of Alaska at Anchorage ice hockey team, which will start up next season after much fundraising garnered enough money to bring it back. Drew Doughty has been injured after a knee to knee hit with Jani Hakanpaa. Is this another Samuelsson on Neely situation? The USHL held their Fall Classic and the NAHL held their Showcase this past week. There was a turnout, reportedly, of over 300 scouts at the Showcase which indicates that teams, professional and otherwise, are leaving no stone unturned for talent. Brad Marchand is 2 assists away from 400. The Kraken have already retired a number...32. Eichel could file a grievance with the NHL and Bill Guerin could be in hot water from his time with the Pens. Andrei Deniskin was suspended by the UHL for his racist behavior during a game between his team, HC Kremenchuk, and HC Donbass. His gesture and comments were directed at a young, black hockey player, Jalen Smereck. Sadly, this is not the worst of the situation. We had a very difficult time holding our tongues and not lashing out at this atrocious behavior. Kristin Welsh is to be congratulated as she has become the first woman linesman in the OHL. Robin Lehner, never one to keep his opinions to himself, has taken to Twitter in defense of Jack Eichel and the ongoing situation. Toronto has signed a couple of former Bruins...Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! The added a goalie and a couple other pieces...and still don't appear to be any better off. Evander Kane is going through arguably the roughest patch of his career, but it is off the ice. The Jack Eichel Saga has grown larger as his agents have spoken out about their unhappiness with their client's treatment for a herniated disk in his neck. Ovi has signed a 5 year contract for about the same AAV as the previous deal. All so he can catch the Great One. But is he already the most prolific goal scorer in NHL history? David Krejci has chosen to leave the NHL and return to his native homeland to play in front of his parents. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors! He will be missed. Barclay Goodrow has signed with the Rangers...and cast the first stone in what is sure to be a rivalry with Tom Wilson! Jonathan Toews is back and talking about his ailment that kept him out for a full season and finally, Willie O'Ree is one step closer to the highest honor that Congress can bestow upon a civilian, the Congressional Gold Medal! Our third show in 7 days, we wax poetic about the NHL Draft. We briefly touch on some undrafteds as well. The University of Michigan is certainly reaping the benefits of this year's draft (or vice versa) as 4 out of the first 5 picks are attending the school as well as another first rounder in Sameskevitch. We discuss the Bruins draft picks this year and aren't as upset as previous years. What did upset us was the pick of Logan Mailloux, and the fact that the NHL Network never mentions Brad Aldrich, but we do and we have to break off the conversation in order to keep it family friendly. Shea Weber will not play next season, and may be done completely. This and other issues are tossed around by Mike and Chris as to what the Habs will do going forward. What organization is winning the flat cap...ah but that would be telling...you have to listen. There are many siblings now playing together after this year's draft and trades. Which will likely play together? We give our opinions. Jake Virtanen is available as he has been bought out by the Canucks...who should give him an opportunity and what should that look like. This is a busy week for the NHL. First, the Seattle Kraken held their Expansion Draft on Wednesday the 21st of July and the 2021 NHL Entry Draft begins on Friday the 23rd. Here we are smack dab in the middle of the action.
First, we break down the picks made by Ron Francis and the front office, giving our 3 best picks and one pick each that left us baffled. Amazingly, there was no crossover here.
We then moved onto the Entry Draft and we each gave 5 picks that could appear as early as the first round, or as late as the 7th. There are some true prospects here but a couple could be projects for their new teams to work with and mould. That being said, there aren't any generational talent prospects in this draft so it will be interesting to see what direction your team goes in.

We are fast approaching the NHL Expansion Draft for the Seattle Kraken which leaves us with many questions, some of which will be answered this week. Ryan Suter and Zach Parise were bought out by the Minnesota Wild as Bill Guerin continues to mold the team in his image. One of the more surprising issues is Colorado leaving Landeskog exposed. Alexander Edler will test the UFA market this off season. Is Colorado a good fit for him? We break down Quick vs Price in the expansion draft. Will either of these goaltenders be on the Kraken shopping list? Brad Treliving has quashed the Tkachuk rumors that have been floating around, but Gaudreau could be on the move as Treliving has stated that one of the impact players may need to dealt. Brandon Carlo has been re-signed by the Bruins and Kevan Miller has announced his retirement. We have reached the end of another NHL season and Tampa Bay have repeated as champions. Congrats to the franchise! Brendan Shanahan was snubbed by Rick Vaive when he was 14 years old and 4 years later exacted a measure of revenge by fighting him in an NHL game. Stephen Johns is skating across America to raise awareness for people who suffer from concussions and the seriousness of post concussion symptoms. He has retired at 29 for the same reason and still has symptoms to this day. Ben Boudreau, son of Bruce Boudreau has won the Kelly Cup in the ECHL. Is he ready to make the jump to the NHL? First off, its Mother's Day so we hope that all the mothers out there got to enjoy the day and didn't have to lift a finger. Its also May 9th, so the NHL season must be over...except it isn't. We are about one week past the NHL Trade Deadline and the end is on the horizon...or is it? We start with some frank discussion about the NHL extending the regular season to May 19th to accommodate all games that have been missed so that all teams can play 56. J.T. Miller for one doesn't believe what the NHL is doing is fair to the Canucks. We start to look ahead at the best UFA and RFA available at the end of the season, Dougie Hamilton and Kevin Fiala respectively. Even though its tough to see either moving, we talk about where they could end up and other possible free agents at the end of the season. An article on ESPN+ by Emily Kaplan and Greg Wyshynski give grades to all 31 teams post trade deadline. We both believe that the grades are slightly off and possibly should be incompletes due to the limited number of deals and their outcomes still up in the air. We hand out some congratulations to Milan Lucic (1000 games), Patrick Marleau (tying Gordie Howe for most games played) and Tuukka Rask (300 wins). With the trade deadline looming three weeks out (April 12th) we start to look at potential moves around the league. But first we start with the Pegulas getting rid of another coach, firing Ralph Krueger. The discussion revolves around to whether it is a coaching issue or something deeper. This week it may seem that we have focused on one franchise in particular but that would be wrong. Many things have happened this week, and the NHL is celebrating a brand new television deal with the four letter network. ESPN will be the primary carrier of games for the next 7 years to the tune of 2.8 Billion dollars. Jordan Binnington signed his own deal, a 6 year 36 million dollar extension with the Blues. Buffalo is suffering a myriad of issues, Eichel is out, Skinner is not scoring, the Pegulas own the team and I could go on but you should listen. Mike introduces us to his new franchise...the Minotaurs! Taken from the Sabres and Press, following current cap space he puts together a team that could potentially be top 10 in the NHL. Now a little over a week into the season and the Stars have finally played a game as well as the dust finally starting to settle around the league. Pierre-Luc Dubois has been traded to the Winnipeg Jets for Laine and Roslovic. We also discuss his interview with Ron McLean of Hockey Night in Canada where he doesn't appear to tell us much but says enough for us to break it down. NBC is shutting down the sports network NBCSN reportedly at the end of the year. What does this mean for the NHL as their contract expires? Games should appear on USA Network but will it be enough to keep the NHL interested? Montreal is surging in the North Division and currently holds the top spot. Who to get the credit...Claude Julien or Marc Bergevin? The answer might surprise you. The new NHL season is just a short 3 days away. With that we clear up some of the stories we missed over the holiday period. To start with, David Backes may be placed on waivers by the Ducks. It would be the second time in the last couple years and is most likely a cap move. Corey Perry (Montreal), Vince Dunn (St. Louis), Dylan Strome (Chicago), Sami Vatanen (New Jersey) and Mathew Barzal (Islanders) have all signed contracts. There are others but clearly the big name is Barzal. A team friendly deal to be sure, he signed for 3 years at 21 million. Perry will be a boost to Julien's Canadiens team as well. Corey Crawford has decided to hang up the skates after 10 years with Chicago. After signing with the Devils, he decided that he didn't have any more to give to the game of hockey. The Senators are still making moves having acquired Cedric Paquette and Braydon Coburn from the Lightning as well as a second round pick in 2022. Outside of losing Anthony Duclair, what has Pierre Dorian done wrong? We say not much. The Blackhawks are hurting, literally, as they have lost Kirby Dach for the season, Jonathan Toews for an unknown amount of time and Alex Nylander for a decent amount of time. We start of with the retirement of Alex Steen. Back issues have played a part in the retirement. We wish him success in all his future endeavors. Henrik Lundqvist will not play this season as he has a heart condition which requires treatment but is not considered life threatening. We send well wishes and prayers to him and his family for a speedy and full recovery. Anthony Duclair has signed a one year contract with the Florida Panthers. The NHL and the Players Association have a tentative deal to start a new season on the 13th of January. The World Junior Championships are starting on the 22nd of this month. One name left off is John Beecher, Boston Bruins first round pick. The collection of players should be of no surprise to anyone as they come from some of the hockey hotbeds around the country. We move on to ways the NHL could increase revenue...by selling ads on helmets and uniforms. Also, it has been reported that the NHL could be exploring a lockout if the players won't give more. Adam Fantilli is a 15 year old who is currently playing in the USHL. He joined so that he could play with his brother, Luca Fantilli. He is expected to be a top 5 pick in the 2023 NHL draft. Here in December we are still talking about when will the new season start. There are some that are also reporting (Pierre LeBrun for one) that the owners want to wait until next fall to start. Money and length of season are at issue here as well as players being paid. Seattle is moving ahead with plans to start as planned. Calgary is looking at money issues in the next couple years as both Giordano and Gaudreau have contracts that are close to ending. Brett Peterson, Northborough Mass native has been named the new Assistant GM for the Florida Panthers. He is the first black assistant GM in league history. Charlie McAvoy is still upset that Torey Krug is no longer with the Bruins. Dylan Samberg was involved in a motor vehicle accident. While his injuries are not severe, there are four other pedestrians with life threatening injuries. Finally, the Canucks attempted to move Loui Eriksson with no luck. With Thanksgiving in the books, we all push closer to the end of the year and the hopeful beginning of a new NHL season. One is Libor Hajek, a 22 year old currently playing in the Czech league. Good for him and the team as he gets himself into game shape and put himself into a potential top pair spot. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins needs a new deal. His current contract expires at the end of this season and the Oilers need to figure out how to fit him in and give him a raise at the same time. Tyler Smith survived the Humboldt Broncos crash two years ago. He is now speaking out, letting men know that it is acceptable to talk about their mental health. The deputy commissioner of the NHL has stated that there could be a shortened season this upcoming year, but is it financially viable to do so? As we wade through the fall off-season of 2020, the flat cap and lack of income are playing a part in player signings and movement. With that in mind, we present the next installment of the Two Man Forecheck. Tampa Bay still has some unsigned players and possible moves to make. One of the bigger names is Tyler Johnson who is still part of the team. Do they want to move him? Is he moveable? Where would he land? Also, there is a story posited by Conor Power that the Bolts should trade Stamkos to Carolina. What would he cost? Can Carolina afford him? We also have a brief discussion on the GM position in Tampa and who is responsible for the latest Stanley Cup victory. Dallas will have to start finding a way to extend John Klingberg as his contract ends at the end of next season. Who would they have to move to afford him? The city of Glendale would like to have more commitment from the Coyotes as their current deal with the 'Yotes is a year to year affair. As the calendar turns to November we continue on with the fall off-season. The Boston Bruins have not made any moves with their remaining free agents, Zdeno Chara and Jake DeBrusk. We talk about the lack of movement on both fronts and what could happen if Sweeney were to make a move. Having only one viable left defenseman is not an answer. Could help come from the trade market? Speaking of trades, Vincent Parise in Chicago suggested a hatred inducing idea...trade Patrick Kane. As we discuss, this is something the 'Hawks should consider doing now. Tyler Seguin was scheduled to have surgery on his torn labrum however this has been pushed back due to the current situation in Dallas. Should he find the answer elsewhere? Well, the season has come to an end. Congrats to the Lightning for the Cup win, and to Victor Hedman for the Conn Smythe. Now we must move on as there is always another new season to look for to for hockey fans. The Stanley Cup Final has begun which means that we will be without hockey soon but the Two Man Forecheck will be here to keep you company. With that being said, we venture into another week with some topics to keep you talking. We start with reasons the Isles lost the Eastern Conference Final rather than the Lightning winning it. We also briefly touch on some of the Blue Jackets issues for the next season. Seattle still hasn't played a game, but we talk about the franchise needing a head coach and who they should hire...Gerard Gallant. They have also pushed the launch of their AHL affiliate out to the 2022-23 season. Gary Bettman originally announced that the new season would start around December 1, but is now saying that it may not start until late December or early January but he still wants an 82 game schedule. We break down three top RFAs who should be offered deals (but probably won't receive them) and we have a frank discussion around the Bruins making an offer to acquire Oliver Ekman-Larsson from Arizona. We start with Kobe Mohr's lawsuit against multiple hockey leagues in Canada, alleging that their practices are limiting the opportunities of the players. We open with Anton Khudobin of the Dallas Stars being the front runner for the Conn Smythe Trophy at this point in the playoffs. We break down both GM hires and the hiring of Peter Laviolette by the Capitals for head coach. Mikku Koivu has announced that he will not be returning to the Minnesota Wild, the only team he has played for in his career. Where will he land? The Torey Krug saga continues in Boston, with the parties not finding a landing spot to quote Don Sweeney. Where will he go? Finally we talk about the NHL Awards that have been announced and the way they are being handed out. We are well into the second round of the playoffs and the cream is starting to rise to the top. As we start out with this week's show, the Bruins are not playing their best hockey by any measurement. Breaking it down further we delve into the blame game being played when it comes to the net minder, Jaroslav Halak. Is it his fault? We say no. We touch on the trade completed between the Pens and Leafs bringing Kapanen back to the team that drafted him, but was it the right move? Again, we say no. With so many other issues on the team, acquiring a goal scorer was not the first thing that should have been done. At this point in the playoffs it would seem acceptable to talk about the Conn Smythe and we do, listing our top candidates for the award. Mostly we agree but there are some other names that creep up. Finally, we quickly discuss a Fansided post that indicates the Blackhawks should fire Jeremy Colliton. Our take is that this is not the time to replace one with another and we talk about why. The tradtional first round of the playoffs has come to an end and the second round has started without missing a beat. We talk about our first round reactions and surprises as well as give a couple predictions regarding the remainder of the playoffs but first we talk about Marc Andre-Fleury and how he feels about his situation in Vegas. In all fairness, Fleury has not stated that he has an issue with this, it appears to be driven by his agent, Allan Walsh. We talk about possible landing spots if he is out of Vegas in the future. Todd Reirden was relieved of duties while the show was being recorded and we talk about Dale Tallon not being offered a new deal as GM of the Panthers. Dan Vladar could possibly get a start in the second round for the Bruins against Tampa Bay. Mike Milbury is out as a commentator for NBC due to his comment a few days ago. We talk about this and his other comments prior. Finally, Sean Avery has decided to throw his name into the ring to replace Milbury in the "booth" for the remainder of the playoffs. We are into the standard first round of the playoffs and there have been some surprises and some announcements. Rask opts out of the playoffs for the Bruins, leaving Halak to patrol the blue paint. What does this mean for his legacy? We discuss. Pittsburgh has fired their assistant coaches but Sullivan appears to have survived the culling. Dale Tallon is out as GM of the Panthers. According to the team it was a mutual agreement. A Denver Post story by Mark Kiszla appears to be insulting to Darcy Kuemper and the Coyotes. We lambast Mark for his lack of professionalism and discuss why they are frustrating the Avs. Quinn Hughes and the rest of the youngsters in Vancouver appear to be for real and look like they could eliminate the defending champions. Dan Hamhuis has called it a career after 16 seasons in the NHL. Claude Julien has returned home from the hospital and could return for the next round as the Canadiens have not given in to any belief that they shouldn't win against the Flyers. Finally, the Seattle Kraken have found their voice...Everett Fitzhugh, 31 currently in Cincinnati, will be the first black commentator (in-game) in NHL history! With the playoff qualifiers just about over (three games left today), we discuss the biggest surprises and biggest disappointment coming out of the opening rounds. Hockey is back!! The playoff qualifiers have begun and we are seeing some interesting hockey. The Bruins have issues with Rask not able to go on Saturday for practice. Kase is back with the team but will not play until at least Wednesday. We talk about a Kirk Luedeke story indicating that the term of the contract, not the money, is the issue at hand in re-signing Torey Krug. Anders Bjork signs a 3 year extension. The Winnipeg Jets not only lost their opening game, but may have lost Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele for a time to injury. The Rangers skated with the Hurricanes but ultimately lost their first game. The Canadiens won the first overtime game of the re-start, proving that being better on paper is not a guarantee on the ice. Jonathan Drouin was being lambasted on Twitter after the game for his performance. The Blackhawks Kubalik is the first rookie in NHL history to get five points in their first playoff game in a win against the Oilers. Finally, we discuss the ongoing story in Arizona where John Chayka, the General Manager has left the team. There were some surprising nuances in the document regarding 35+ contracts and players with NMC/NTC in their contracts. So we dive into the deep end and break down what it all means. Jimmy Murphy has written an interesting article regarding if Eichel leaves Buffalo it will start a bidding war, but we go deeper and talk about the troubling issues with the franchise itself. Jesperi Kotkaniemi is returning to the Canadiens, which should help the team, but in what way and will Julien use him at all? The excitement builds as the NHL targets the end of July for a return to live games. Here at the the Forecheck, we are live every week. Starters consist of Luke Kunin, forward for the Wild, expressing his desire to start playing again. The concern here is that he has diabetes and is of a higher risk to contract the virus than others, but he has been presented with the information he needs from professionals around him to make an informed decision regarding playing. Auston Matthews has tested positive for the virus, and appears to be the only named player around the league to have tested as such. Why is he named? There has been no answer so we discuss. Only about 5 percent of the players tested have received a positive result. For the mains, we delve into the dumpster fire that is the Buffalo Sabres. They have eliminated 23 administrative and scouting employees, including the GM and assistant GMs. The replacement is the senior VP of business administration, Kevyn Adams. There is a long road ahead for this man, and one of those tasks is convincing Jack Eichel to stay with the team that drafted him. We talk about the possibility of the Bruins acquiring his talents. Finally, we discuss the formation of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, formed by a handful of players and headed up by Akim Aliu and Evander Kane. Although not an NHL created alliance, the NHL is hoping to work with them on the topic of diversity and inclusion. Oh yeah, and Ryan Reaves and Kane appear to be working towards burying the hatchet. Phase 3 is the next step in the return, as July 10 is the next date to remember, but the Two Man Forecheck presses on. This week we talk about the security in the NHL with regard to its hub cities, as Las Vegas is speculated to be one of the two. We break down scenarios and locations of where the other one (or both) should be held. The NHL has released a list of the best to wear the number, and Chicago claims that 12 of those numbers belong to Blackhawks. But is that the truth? Reality tells us that maybe not, and we discuss who and how many are actually 'Hawks players. Danny Wirtz, son of chairman Rocky Wirtz has been named interim president of Chicago, but how does this affect the team. We give ample time to the discussion of how this will work out for them and other young execs around the league. A Boston Bruin has tested positive (and then twice negative) for that which shall not be named, so how does this affect the team going forward. The light in the tunnel is getting brighter. Phase 2 brings with it practices for the teams with a limit of 6 players. But we at the Two Man Forecheck are still in playoff form. We start out with a rant from Max Kellerman from First Take where he stated that the NHL is not one of the 4 major sports. This, amazingly, brought with it some backlash especially from Mike Milbury. We delve into the playoffs with a Western Conference preview. Some of the matchups should make for entertaining hockey. Spinning off of this topic we discuss why the Round Robin games should not be happening. We also pay a short visit to Las Vegas and talk about their start of practice tomorrow (Monday the 8th). Buffalo has had its share of failure the past few seasons and one player in particular is frustrated over the whole ordeal. We talk about Jack Eichel and his current tenure with the Sabres and what they should do to make his remaining time there successful. Hockey is back!! And that is the best thing about the NHL's Return to Play plan. Mike and I break down what we like and do not like about this plan...here's a hint...the draft lottery is a mess! But we start with a story from the Athletic where each of the 24 playoff teams are allowed to draft a player from one of the seven non-playoff teams. Its clearly not going to happen, not real, but extremely entertaining and leads to a lot of discussion...especially with regard to snubs. We talk about Peter Cehlarik leaving Boston and signing with Lugano. He played 40 games in the NHL with 11 points, but felt that he was always waiting for the mistake that got him sent down. We break down possible captains for the Bruins when Chara retires. We respond to Larry Brooks' response to a question regarding Rick Nash's playoff woes in 2014 and discuss a current Ranger, Kaapo Kakko and his return to the Rangers. Based on what John Davidson says, we have no idea what he is saying. Finally, we present a tweet from Blake Wheeler regarding his home state of Minnesota and his feelings on what is happening to his home. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, and it is the NHL Playoffs. The main idea is that hockey will come back with a 24 team playoff format, effectively ending the regular season. We start with a brief diatribe around the importance of sport to the masses, but then get on with the business of talking hockey. We talk about the possibility of compliance buyouts and we give two examples each of players we feel should be bought out. We get into the logistics of a 16 versus 24 team playoff format. Amazingly, we agree that the 24 team format is better for the league and fans. There is a story out there by David Staples of the Edmonton Journal predicting that the Blackhawks will beat the Oilers in the playoffs this season. A good read, the link is below. Finally, we venture into a discussion (which becomes a Mike rant) on moving the draft from June to April, changing the format of who drafts where and the possibility of getting rid of the draft lottery or significantly changing how it is conducted. Another week in May has come and gone and still no live hockey, but we press on. The AHL, however, will not and have cancelled their season. We break down Jason Botterill's time in Buffalo and grade him on his 3 year anniversary with his time running the team. Here's a hint: Chris gives him a C-, Mike a D+. We talk about Nick Ritchie and his time with the Boston Bruins. He talks about his difficulty gelling with the team and forming some kind of chemistry. David Backes has moved on to Anaheim, and this pause may be just what he needs to get back on track. Torey Krug is the best power play quarterback in the league, but what of others such as Brent Burns and Kris Letang? Radko Gudas has stated that he believes the NHL should shut down, that the league should worry more about the safety of the players, while discussing his contract status in the same interview. We start this week with the NWHL Draft. Something took place here that you don't see on the men's side too often. Many of the players taken by the top two teams in the league were drafted from their own geographic areas. The Boston Pride drafted a B.U. player, Sammy Davis, with the number one overall pick and took most of their players from the Northeast. The Minnesota Whitecaps drafted their top two picks from the University of Minnesota. The New York Rangers signed Tyler Wall, a 2016 pick from U. Mass Lowell, to an entry level contract. With this signing, it also led us to discuss the depth the Rangers have at the goaltender position. Brendan Leipsic was released by the Capitals after some scathing comments made on a private instagram chat were released. Should he be punished? Was it right for someone else to bring these comments to light? This also affected his younger brother, who was dropped from his college team in Manitoba. Dominic Tiano stated recently on Twitter his plan for the 2020 draft, and we discuss it here. Ben Sexton, a Bruin draft pick in 2009, has retired from hockey at 28 years of age due to concussions he has suffered throughout his career. We wish Ben the best of luck in his future endeavors and a speedy recovery from his malady. As we continue without any live Hockey on the horizon, we at the Two Man Forecheck continue to find the stories that can be talked about. This week we open with a frank discussion on the NHL Restart and the Return to Play committee that has been created. We also revisit the Calder Candidates this season and debate who should and should not receive consideration. Oskar Lindblom was diagnosed with bone cancer back in December, but he is almost done with his treatments and could see a return to the ice soon. We wish him all the best and hope for a speedy return. The Blackhawks have fired their president, John McDonough, for no other reason than it appears the owner is trying to send a message, but what message is he really sending? Ray Bourque has gone on record as saying that Torey Krug is one of the best defensemen in the NHL, so we discussed it. NHL.com has put out a super 16 list of defensemen, and we break down the list and decide that some of the players are in the wrong spots. We talk about another potential expansion city for the NWHL, a point raised to us by Douglas Bildhauer on Facebook. And finally, the hockey gods have smiled on Boston as Jaro Halak has signed a one year extension to play for the Black and Gold. Another week and we come close to naming that which shall not be named. The NWHL has added a sixth team, expanding over the border into Toronto, Canada. We talk about a possible NHL restart, thanks to a story from Larry Brooks of the NY Daily News. We close the show by talking about a Zoom conference known as the Boston Bruins Locker Room Time Machine, where the 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins get back together to talk about the team and just generally have a fun time with each other, and we the viewing public reap the benefits. All of this is exciting, but we spend the bulk of the show doing something that has been 2 plus years in the making (and longer for Mike and Chris)...we finally redraft the 2003 NHL Draft. Arguably the best draft class ever, we put the players where they would be or should be now, and there aren't many crossover picks between our two lists. For the fourth straight week we are corona free. We talk about the week the St. Louis Blues had, extending Mackenzie MacEachern, Sammy Blais and Marco Scandella. This leads us to talk about what may happen with Alex Pietrangelo. Could he go somewhere else? And what would all that mean for Torey Krug? Kris Versteeg, a Bruin draft pick in 2004, has retired at the age of 33. He never played for the Bruins, but has won two Stanley Cup rings with Chicago. Also calling it a career is Andrei Markov, 36 of the Montreal Canadiens. He seems to be more famous for the players he has been paired with over his career. Dustin Byfuglien and the Jets have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, making him a free agent. Where could he land next year (he can't sign anywhere this season). Another week without hockey, but we are still here talking about it! Lou Lamoriello has tweeted out that he will match any offer sheets that are tendered for Matthew Barzal. The Bruins have signed two college players to their entry level contracts...Nick Wolff of Minnesota Duluth and Jeremy Swayman of UMaine. Unforturtunately US Hockey has cancelled some upcoming camps and tryouts however camps scheduled for the end of June and early July are still tentatively going to happen. We spend a lot of the show discussing questions surrounding the current NHL season and the future of the league going forward.
