This podcast is dedicated to spreading the Word of God through the messages preached at Freedom Church in Gallatin, Tennessee.
Spiritual growth requires both deep roots in Christ and active outreach to others. Like plants need strong roots to thrive, our faith needs to be firmly established in Jesus to bear fruit. This involves a two-directional approach: reaching up to God through worship, prayer, and Bible study, and reaching out to others by sharing our faith. Our personal testimony is a powerful tool that doesn't require theological expertise—just authenticity about what Jesus has done in our lives. When we understand God's heart for the lost as illustrated in Luke 15, we're motivated to fulfill the Great Commission by investing in relationships and helping others take steps toward Jesus.
In a world overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, and constant bad news, how do we find peace that lasts? In this message from September 28, 2025, we explore how God’s Word cuts through the fog of worry and shows us that peace isn’t found in the absence of storms but in the presence of Jesus. Through scriptures like Philippians 4:6–7 and John 16:33, you’ll learn practical steps to name your anxiety, pray it to God, release it, and replace lies with His truth. Whether you’re battling sleepless nights, uncertainty about the future, or the weight of everyday struggles, this message will encourage you to trade panic for the unshakable peace of Christ.
In this sermon from the series What Matters, Pastor Josh Brewer unpacks the heart of discipleship—what it means to truly grow up in Christ. God hasn’t only saved us from something; He’s saved us for something greater. Discipleship is more than information—it’s transformation and multiplication as we become fully devoted followers of Jesus who love and live like Him. From the call to follow, to the process of daily growth, to the mission of making disciples, this message will challenge and inspire you to take your next step in your walk with Christ.
In times of national division, the question of who is truly our Lord becomes paramount. Declaring Jesus as Lord means acknowledging His authority above all else, including cultural trends and personal preferences. Our fears reveal what we truly value, our sacrifices demonstrate what we genuinely believe, and our obedience shows who we actually love. The early apostles modeled this radical commitment by continuing to preach despite persecution, choosing to obey God rather than human authorities. As followers of Christ today, we must examine whether Jesus is truly Lord of our lives or merely a label we claim, and be willing to stand for truth with both courage and grace in a divided world.
In a world where we often care deeply about trivial matters, we need to refocus on what truly matters eternally. After salvation, baptism stands as the first crucial step of obedience for believers. It serves as a public declaration of faith, symbolizes the death of our old self and birth of new life in Christ, and brings joy to our Heavenly Father. Baptism isn't just a religious ritual but a command from Jesus and an act of love toward Him. For those who have accepted Christ but haven't been baptized, the question remains: what are you waiting for?
Finding true rest through Sabbath means understanding its original purpose - to meet our needs, not burden us with rules. Jesus taught that Sabbath is primarily for rest, preparing us for our work, and restoring our souls. By intentionally recharging physically, intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, we honor God's design for our lives. Many of us struggle with rest because we don't fully trust God with our burdens, but Jesus invites us to exchange our heavy loads for His lighter ones. The Sabbath isn't an obligation but a divine gift enabling us to live the full, purposeful life God intends.
In our technology-driven world, we're experiencing a compassion crisis as self-obsession diminishes our ability to truly care for others. Godly compassion has three key characteristics: it moves us to action, interrupts our routine, and costs us something. Jesus consistently demonstrated this compassion by taking immediate action when confronted with suffering. As we become less focused on ourselves and more attuned to others' needs, we can be channels through which people experience God's love. True compassion isn't just clicking 'like' on a post—it's loving people where they are so God can take them where they need to go.
Digital addiction has silently crept into our lives, with the average person swiping their phone 2,600 times daily and spending over 3.5 hours on screens. This addiction affects our mental health, relationships, and spiritual well-being. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by renewing our minds rather than conforming to worldly patterns. Philippians 4:8 provides eight spiritual filters to evaluate what we consume: truth, honor, righteousness, purity, loveliness, admirability, excellence, and praiseworthiness. Breaking free requires intentional steps like reducing notifications, practicing a Tech Sabbath, prioritizing scripture before scrolling, and building holy habits to replace unhealthy ones.
We can track our pizza in real time, video chat across the globe, and scroll endlessly—yet still feel disconnected from God and people. In this message, Pastor Terrell Somerville challenges us to trade distraction for devotion, prioritize presence over productivity, and slow our pace to find the peace our souls crave.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as the most significant miracle in history, confirming His identity as the Son of God and separating Him from all other religious leaders. This miracle conquers our greatest fear—death—and offers us freedom from its power. The same resurrection power that raised Jesus is available to believers today, capable of revitalizing dead areas in our lives, whether relationships, hope, faith, or purpose. This transformative truth demands a response; we must decide whether to believe, reject, or ignore it, recognizing that our decision determines our destiny.
Jesus's question at the Pool of Bethesda, 'Do you want to get well?' challenges us to consider what true healing requires. Wellness demands recognizing our powerlessness, identifying harmful patterns, abandoning false sources of hope, and sometimes changing relationships. The path forward involves responding in faith, replacing old habits with new ones, repeating truth instead of lies, and demonstrating genuine repentance. True healing isn't just physical—it's a complete transformation that may require leaving behind our old identity to embrace a new life in Christ. The miracle of wellness begins when we honestly answer whether we're ready for the cost and commitment of a completely new life.
When facing impossible situations like the Israelites at the Red Sea, we discover that impossibility is actually an opportunity for the miraculous. God sometimes intentionally leads us into challenging circumstances to reveal His character, teach us dependence, and display His glory. While our natural response might be fear and complaint, God calls us to active faith—not just standing still, but moving forward in obedience. The greatest challenge isn't just escaping our difficulties but leaving behind old mindsets and habits that keep us in bondage. Our impossible situations can become pathways for experiencing God's deliverance and power in unprecedented ways.
God doesn't just perform miracles—He creates people to be miracles. Like Gideon, who was called a mighty warrior while hiding in fear, we often wait for miracles instead of recognizing we are the miracle God wants to use. The journey to greatness begins in our minds, overcoming the negative self-talk that limits our potential. Greatness starts with believing what God says about us and taking small steps of obedience, even when nobody notices. By confronting our personal idols and choosing to serve others, we can fulfill the purpose for which we were fearfully and wonderfully made.
In the story of Lazarus, Jesus deliberately waited until all hope was lost before performing a resurrection miracle. This teaches us that God's delays are often divine setups for greater displays of His power. What feels like God's absence may actually be His perfect timing at work. Jesus brings both truth for our minds and tears for our hearts in our suffering. True resurrection isn't just a future event but a present relationship with Jesus, and our obedience often precedes His miracles. While salvation gives us life, community helps remove the 'grave clothes' that keep us bound.
The story of the woman with the issue of blood demonstrates the transformative power of faith. After suffering for twelve years with constant bleeding that left her physically debilitated and socially isolated, she courageously pushed through a crowd to touch Jesus' robe, believing this simple act would heal her. Jesus not only healed her physically but restored her identity by calling her 'daughter' and giving her peace. Her testimony inspired others to seek healing in the same way, showing how our faith can impact not only our lives but the lives of those around us.
Miracles aren't random acts of wonder but purposeful signs pointing us to Jesus Christ. They serve four key purposes: pointing us to Jesus, validating His message, meeting needs through compassion, and building faith in believers. Jesus' first miracle at Cana—turning water into wine—teaches us that miracles follow a pattern: invitation precedes intervention, desperation becomes declaration, obedience opens overflow, and ultimately, miracles magnify the Messiah. The pathway to experiencing miracles in our lives involves inviting Jesus daily, identifying our needs, practicing complete obedience, and sharing our experiences to inspire others.
In a culture where faith is often minimized, fathers are called to courageously live their faith forward. Based on 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, this message outlines four key ways fathers can lead spiritually: by living faith through consistent example, maintaining faith during adversity, standing with unwavering conviction, and demonstrating integrity in all areas of life. The strength of a father isn't measured by how loudly he talks about God, but by how faithfully he walks with God when no one is looking. This creates a legacy that guides future generations toward authentic faith.
God's favor is the guarantee of His presence and power to fulfill His purpose in your life—not just material blessings or a trouble-free existence. Unlike favors from God, which are temporary conveniences, true favor means experiencing God's presence, purpose, and power. Biblical examples like Moses and Mary show that favor often comes with challenges, yet includes God's guidance through them. We position ourselves for God's favor through faith and obedience, becoming 'favor finders' who recognize God's blessings even in difficult seasons. The essence of favor isn't what happens to you, but knowing God is with you through it all.
In a world of moral confusion and spiritual deception, God's Word serves as our guiding light and moral compass. When society redefines morality, calling evil good and good evil, Christians must stand firm on biblical truth. Romans 1 describes a culture spiraling into darkness, mirroring today's confusion about gender and sexuality. As believers, we are called to be light in this darkness - not silent, but lovingly confronting sin and declaring God's standards. Our ultimate hope isn't in politics or programs but in Jesus Christ, who offers forgiveness and freedom to all who repent.
Building a legacy of faith requires intentional spiritual discipleship, distinguishing between heritage (what you receive) and legacy (what you leave behind). Scripture emphasizes our responsibility to pass faith to future generations, treating discipleship as a race to be run with purpose and discipline. Practical ways to build this legacy include living authentically, teaching biblical disciplines, developing a biblical worldview, establishing spiritual rhythms, modeling grace and forgiveness, speaking identity over others, and encouraging ministry participation. The goal is ensuring each generation builds upon the faith foundation of those who came before.
In a world where entitlement is increasingly common, parents must focus on building character rather than comfort in their children. The three main pitfalls of irresponsible parenting include allowing apathy, enabling blame-shifting, and fostering a care-for-me mentality. Parents can combat these issues by modeling financial responsibility, emotional control, mental discipline, and personal accountability. By demonstrating these qualities consistently, parents help their children develop the strong character needed for a purposeful life.
Finding peace with our past requires understanding and accepting God's complete forgiveness. Self-pity and self-righteousness often prevent us from forgiving ourselves, essentially rejecting the sufficiency of Christ's sacrifice. God promises to work all things together for good, even our worst mistakes, as demonstrated through biblical examples like King David. The path to freedom involves recognizing enemy condemnation, refusing self-condemnation, and resting in Christ's finished work.
Inspirational parenting focuses on building deep, faith-filled relationships with children through loving touch, focused time, and consistent encouragement. Parents must prioritize both quality and quantity time, creating an environment where faith practices are regular and meaningful. By connecting before correcting and leading with relationship over rules, parents can shape their children's spiritual DNA during their formative years. The goal is to create a home environment where faith flourishes and children feel consistently supported and encouraged.
Building a God-centered family requires intentionally leading children from parental dependence to complete dependence on God. Parents must demonstrate wholehearted love for God through consistent actions, making worship and faith a non-negotiable priority. Creating a spiritual environment involves regular devotions, natural faith discussions, and decisions based on godly convictions rather than convenience. The ultimate goal is helping children develop a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ that will guide them throughout their lives.

God's invitation to relationship is radically inclusive, extending especially to those who feel unwelcome or unworthy. Through the story of the uninvited woman in Luke 7, we see how Jesus welcomes those whom society rejects. His invitation is unconditional, based on grace rather than performance, and focused on love instead of judgment. Jesus sees past mistakes to recognize value in every person, offering complete forgiveness and making them part of His family.
Jesus teaches that lust always takes while love always gives, challenging us to examine our hearts and actions. This principle extends beyond sexual temptation to all areas where sinful desires compete with godly love. Taking drastic measures to guard against temptation involves carefully monitoring what we see, who we spend time with, and how we speak. The goal isn't perfection but progress in pursuing holiness, recognizing that our private and public lives should reflect consistent godly character.
Forgiveness, while challenging, is fundamental to Christian faith and emotional wellbeing. It doesn't mean approving wrongdoing, forgetting what happened, or immediately restoring trust. Instead, true forgiveness is a daily choice that requires releasing bitterness and following God's example of grace. Understanding that forgiven people forgive others, Christians are called to make forgiveness a habit, even when it's difficult. This process often involves repeatedly choosing to forgive, giving situations to God, and remembering our own forgiveness.
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but the way we handle it determines whether relationships grow or break. Key factors like selfishness and discontentment often drive relationship struggles. The biblical approach to handling conflict involves examining our attitudes, avoiding impulsive reactions, and considering others' perspectives. True reconciliation requires apologizing when wrong, forgiving freely, and actively working to restore broken relationships through prayer and understanding.

Marriage is a divine covenant established by God, not merely a social contract. This sacred bond between one man and one woman is built on mutual trust and lifelong commitment. God designed sexual intimacy as a gift to be enjoyed exclusively within marriage, with both spouses called to fulfill each other's needs. For singles, the focus should be on becoming the right person through maintaining purity, developing godly character, and seeking divine guidance in relationships.
True Christian love transcends mere emotions, requiring active choice and meaningful service to others. Based on Jesus' two greatest commandments - loving God completely and loving neighbors as ourselves - authentic Christianity manifests through compassionate action. Drawing from the Good Samaritan parable, believers are called to see others with genuine compassion, take decisive action, and help generously without expecting recognition. Overcoming barriers like selfishness and busy schedules, Christians must prioritize serving others as a practical demonstration of their faith.
The Holy Spirit provides essential empowerment for daily Christian living through multiple vital functions. These include helping in our weaknesses, equipping us with spiritual gifts, and producing spiritual fruit in our lives. To experience God's power consistently, believers must cultivate three key attributes: dependence on God's sovereignty, genuine devotion to His presence, and discipline in spiritual practices. This power becomes accessible when we maintain our connection to God's presence, moving beyond religious routines to authentic relationship.
Living with purpose requires making God the absolute priority in life, not just one part among many. This involves developing holy habits like regular prayer, church attendance, and serving others while removing distractions and unnecessary weights. With only about 29,000 days on earth, each day presents an opportunity to live for God's purposes rather than our own. Success in purposeful living comes through spiritual discipline, intentional choices, and putting God first in all decisions.
Making this your best year ever depends on developing a deeper relationship with Jesus through intentional walking, listening, and believing. True relationship means following His lead rather than asking Him to follow our plans. Creating quiet spaces for prayer and reducing distractions helps us hear His voice more clearly. When we truly believe, we expect miracles, trust His plans, and maintain hope even in difficult circumstances. By aligning our thoughts with God's and approaching Him with anticipation, we position ourselves for transformation.
