What kind of example are you setting?
It’s important that we understand that someone, somewhere is watching us, they listen to what we say, they think about what we do; everything we do should be things we are proud of.
Titus 2:7 “In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness”
Who is the ultimate role model? Of course, it’s Jesus, if we follow His example or the examples of those who truly show they are Christians, our lives and the lives of those around us would be better.
1 Corinthians 11:1 – “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”
How can I be a good role model?
Be accountable for your actions. Don’t play the blame game, don’t whine about life, if you mess up, fess up.
1 Thessalonians 1:4-6 “For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.”
It’s important that not only do we do right, we must speak out against wrong. We cannot tolerate injustice, we can’t close our eyes and pretend things aren’t happening to others.
Jeramiah 1:10 – “See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant”
Influence others for good, otherwise you’re wasting you gifts and time Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”
Being a good role model means being a servant Matthew 20:28- “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
3 John 1:5-8 5 “Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers; and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers with the truth.”
Remember open you bible and believe because, there’s always a way to stay in the saddle when life is trying to buck you off. God Bless and Peace y’all

I want to talk about a feeling that I think most of us, if not all of us have had at one time, that is a feeling of resentment. What is resentment? The standard definition is that it is a feeling we get when we feel we have been treated unfairly, we’ve been wronged, insulted, or something has made us indignant. Many times, I’ve thought to myself, ‘hey, I resent that’, I don’t like what was said or done. If you’ve never had that feeling well, ok, good for you, I hope you never feel it. For the rest of us though, I thought I’d take a look a resentment.
What causes resentment? Is there any danger in feeling resentful? How can I handle my feelings of resentment, and is there a way to avoid feeling resentful in the future?
What causes resentment?
When we disagree over how someone should behave, that is, a person doesn’t behave like we think they should. 2 Samuel 6:16 “Then it happened as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.” We can see a lot of that going on in today’s society, especially when it comes to politics. Man if we don’t agree with another person’s viewpoint about a candidate or issues, you can cut the tension in the air with a knife. I’ve had friends actually stop talking to me because I didn’t agree with them on issues. Makes me wonder whatever happened to allowing others to have their own opinion and accepting them regardless.
Feeling left out, also causes jealousy. Luke 15:27-30, “And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’
Is there any danger in feeling resentful?
It’s self-destructive, Proverbs 27:3, “A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, But the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.”
Job 5:2, “For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple.”
How can I handle my feelings of resentment?
Let it go. Chris LeDoux, There’s a five dollar fine for whining
James 5:9, “Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.”
1 Thessalonians 5:15, “See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.”
Mark 11:25, “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.”
Is there a way to avoid feeling resentful in the future?
Pray for a transformation Matthew 5:43-46, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?”
Remember not dealing with our feelings of resentment can cause serious issues for us, mentally, spiritually, and physically. Take a deep breath and let things go. God loves you, peace y’all

Several years ago there was a song, how can you heal a broken heart, it didn’t really offer any answers, but it is a question that many of us have asked, how do we heal a broken heart, can we heal one.
How does God respond to a broken heart? What should I do when I have a broken heart? Does any good come from having a Broken Heart? How can I help someone else who has a broken heart?
How does God respond to a broken heart, does He really care how I feel, how I react to my troubles?
Matthew 5:4 – He offers comfort to those in his presence . “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
What should I do when I have a broken heart?
Step one – pray for solace Psalm 130:1 “Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord.”
Step two – remember, this too shall pass Ecclesiastes 3:4 “A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance. “ there’s a time for everything
Step three – talk it out Acts 20:37, Paul was saying to goodby to Ephesus, and he recalled all the things he had gone through with the people and how far they had come and how much he cared for them, “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” When he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. And they began to weep aloud and embraced Paul, and repeatedly kissed him, “
Does any good come from having a Broken Heart?
Being broken hearted can lead to healing and a better life Psalm 30:11 – “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,”
How can I help someone else who has a broken heart?
Empathize with them show understanding Romans 12:15 “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”
Be careful what you say Job 16:2 “I have heard many such things; Sorry comforters are you all.” make sure you don’t misplace blame

The Meaning of Life
Many of us seem to question if our lives are fulfilling or if they have any meaning. Especially now in these troubling times, it is easy to feel adrift, just kind of meandering around, with no real purpose or goal. Every now and then, to fill that void that is inside, many of us turn to drugs, alcohol, and in some case high risk behavior. We’re trying to fill that emptiness inside with external stuff and that rarely works. Today I want to talk about life’s meaning. Asking some questions and trying to find some answers that make sense. For example, why does it sometimes seem that my life lacks meaning? Is there a deeper meaning to life? How can I figure out and understand the meaning of my own life?
Why do we sometimes think our lives have no meaning?
In Ecclesiastes 3:19, we read “For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity.” the reality is that often things seem meaningless, it’s like who cares what I do or don’t do, if I’m good or bad, the end result will be the same. If we build our lives around selfish or trivial things, that can also add to the feeling, again from Ecclesiastes 4:4 “I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind.”
If our only focus is on stuff, money, and things that will eventually go away, once we achieve material success we can still feel empty, Ecclesiastes 5:10, “He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.”
So what does give our lives meaning? As a Christian, I believe we are called to take part in God’s work for this world 2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died;”. And then again in John 20:21, “So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.’” The first scripture tells us clearly that we are all a part of something far greater than ourselves. We belong to a family, that exists to do better things for others, as a Christian I am motivated by what is in John, it is up to each of us to go out and make the world better.
Too many Christians now sit at home and whine and gripe about the way of the world, posting angry diatribes on Facebook or comments on Twitter complaining about what is going on. Instead I believe we all should be talking to others and showing others that Jesus lives through us, sadly that is easier said than done, it is difficult for us to sometimes understand that concept.
But how can we understand the meaning of our life? Search for wisdom, in today’s world we all want answers, we all want solutions, but sometimes we don’t really want to understand, we just want a quick fix. I think we need to the words in Proverbs 2:3-4, “For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures;”. If we work as hard trying to find the answers to the deep issues that are facing us as hard as we do seeking money, things, and power then we have a fighting chance for some peace in our lives. Then again in Proverbs 4:7, “The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, get understanding.” There is no magic bullet or potion, it takes time and effort to really get to know ourselves. Ask God for help, you don’t have to stand on a street corner, and yell and scream, just quietly ask Him to help…Proverbs 2:6, “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” It really doesn’t require much more than that, simply go into a quiet room, or as I do go for a walk in a nature area, or even a neighborhood park, turn down the outside noise and ask for help. You’ll find the answers you seek, after all if I’ve been able to after all my screw ups in life, you can too.

In today’s podcast, I talk about procrastination, how to recognize when we are doing it, why we do it, and what are some of the dangers of procrastination.
I recognize it, because I’ve been procrastinating putting this message together for over a week. I realized that I’ve been putting it off and that for whatever reason, I had fallen victim to the evil procrastination bug.
As I thought about it, I understood, that I had a lot of reasons for my procrastination, none of them very good. I was tired, there was so much stuff going on that I couldn’t wrap my head around it, I wasn’t happy with how the podcasts were turning out, and I just got lazy. So I didn’t practice what I preach.
I finally decided that for this podcast series to work, I have to be me, I have to not try and impress anyone other than God because after all, it’s His work I am trying to do. My messages have always been straight forward and to the point, no fancy theological nonsense, just the straight truth and based on lessons I have learned in life on how Jesus can help me get back up in the saddle when life has bucked me off.
So that’s the new name, how to use the Bible to stay in the saddle when life is trying to buck you off.
The Scripture for today is: Proverbs 26:13 , Jonah 1:1-3, Joshua 18:1-3, Matthew 25:24-30, and Proverbs 6:6-11
Hope you enjoy it, and I hope each and everyone of you has a great blessed week, and I’ll see you next Sunday. Peace….

We are living in an age where it often seems as if we have to do everything and we have to be on all the time. It was bad enough in the recent past when most of us worked more hours than we should have, and often felt like we were hamsters on a treadmill. It seemed that no matter how fast or furious we worked, we never seemed to get ahead or were even able to take a deep breath and relax. Today, with the COVID-19 and people having to stay at home, it seems as if our daily workloads have doubled or even tripled and as a result, more and more of us are feeling burned-out. Today I want to talk about burnout, how we can recognize that we might be experiencing burnout, and if so, what steps we can take to deal with it.
How do we know if we are experiencing burnout? We need to pay attention to how we feel, to the messages our bodies are sending us. I was on the phone with a friend and as we spoke, I asked how she was feeling. She said, at the end of the day, all she wanted to do, was plop down on a couch and not move. I have often felt the same, the day ends, and I feel weak and exhausted; or as my dad used to say, I feel like I’ve been rode hard and put away wet. Usually that also means that during the day, things haven’t gone as I wanted them too and I feel frustrated and aggravated, very much like the words in Psalm 38:8 “I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart.” Over the years, I’ve read that verse and never really understood what it meant, until recently, when things have begun piling up and there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes I feel like I’m stuck on a hamster wheel and going nowhere. All my work seems fruitless, there just isn’t any end in sight and even when I finish a job, it’s not quite satisfying. In 1 Kings 19:14 “Then he said, ‘I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.’” Those words were from the Prophet Elijah and he was frustrated and was venting to the Lord. He’s saying, look I’ve done everything I was supposed to and yet it seems to all be in vain. No matter what, there’s just nobody saying, “good work” and that happens all the time in our world. We spend hour after hour working on a project, it’s finished, and the response from the boss is, “ok”, not a “good job”, a “well done”, just a mediocre almost pat on the back. We all want to feel needed and the work we do respected, when it isn’t we begin to burnout, we wonder, ahh what’s the point? Once we get to that mental state, then the next thing that happens seems to be a wave of anxiety or almost a crushing feeling hits us and we feel overwhelmed.
In Psalm 69:1-2, we read, “Save me, O God, For the waters have threatened my life. I have sunk in deep mire, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.” I don’t know how many folks have ever been in flood waters that were flowing so fast you couldn’t stand up; or tried to walk in a river bed that was muddy and your feet keep getting stuck and it’s a struggle to move; or in surf so rough that no matter how hard we try it keeps knocking us down. I’ve been in those situations and there’s a feeling of helplessness and often of fear. When we begin to feel like we’re suffocating, when we feel like we’re drowning, or simply beating our head against a wall, it’s another symptom that we might be feeling the effects of burnout. It’s a natural human emotion, of trying to do too much, too often, so the question becomes is there any antidote for burnout”?
Yes of course there is, the first thing we can do, or try to do is, whenever possible delegate, we don’t have to do everything ourselves, it’s ok to let someone else help us. In Exodus 18:21-23, we find Moses facing this type of problem; he’s feeling the effects of burnout. “Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens. Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that every major dispute they will bring to you, but every minor dispute they themselves will judge. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. If you do this thing and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace.” Delegating is often tough for us, I know it is for me. In my regular business, I was feeling burnout from trying to do all the programming, take care of the web sites, social media, and doing the marketing and business planning. Eventually I turned over the app programming and the marketing to my partner. Now my days are not as stressful and I’m able to actually get more done, and focus on what I do best, and he focuses on what he does best. We make more progress by letting go and not trying to do it all, we often find our hearts and minds are more at peace and then we can take the next step in combating burnout, we can get some rest.
Again, we find in Exodus 23:12, “Six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you shall cease from labor so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave, as well as your stranger, may refresh themselves.” Think about it, we live in a world that now lives and operates on a 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year schedule. Back in the old days, most places were closed on Sunday, and most stores closed in the evenings. Now everybody stays open on Sunday, it’s just another work day, and stores stay open 24 hours a day. We check our social media pages several times a day, we read our text messages and emails throughout the day, and in some cases, folks read their text messages while driving. With cell phones, we are never out of reach of those who want to call us, so it is possible that we never, ever get a break. As a result of this go-go-go schedule, our bodies and our minds begin to break down. We feel stress, which releases toxins into our blood stream, our heartbeat is accelerated, our blood pressure rises and we rarely take time to have some recreation. When we do recreate, it’s often in the form of a competition, so we’re not really relaxing, in fact, we even more stressed out especially if we’re competitive in nature. So we continue the cycle, when if we simply care for our body, we’ll be able to take care of our minds. In 1 Kings 19:5-8, we go back to the story of old Elijah, remember how he was feeling the pain of burnout? Well, he discovered the cure, “He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, there was an angel touching him, and he said to him, “Arise, eat.” Then he looked and behold, there was at his head a bread cake baked on hot stones, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank and lay down again. The angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.” So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.” Elijah got some sleep and ate some food, two ingredients for a healthy lifestyle that many of us neglect; but which are a great antidote for burnout. How many times do we work for hours, and then get in our vehicle and drive to pick up some kind of fast food. So we buy some over processed junk that contains few if any of the nutrients we really need, and since we haven’t taken the time to unwind and take a deep breathe, we don’t get a good night’s sleep. Sleep is vital to our health, it gives the body the time to wash out those toxins that have filled your brain pathways during the day, and good food gives you the energy and fuel you need to keep on going. Maybe instead of trying to do it all, let’s try seeing if God can give us a hand, after all in Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus instructs his disciples, to; “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Personally, I have found that when I’m at the end of my rope, one thing that works, is to take my dog Lil Dude and go for a walk, and while walking ask Jesus for some help; I ask Him to send down the Holy Spirit to help me find the answer. I find I am able to exhale, able to see the beauty of the world around me, and able to find some peace of mind. I can then deal with my feelings of burnout in a more productive way.
So remember, when we first see and recognize the symptoms of burnout, the feeling of exhaustion, despair, like nothing is being accomplished, and overwhelmed, then it’s time to take action. Delegate some work, we don’t have to do it all, get some rest, change the diet, exercise, and pray for guidance. Burnout doesn’t have to be something that permanently cripples us, it is however, a symptom that we need to make some changes in our lifestyle before we do severe damage to ourselves.

The world seems to be spinning out of control, people are protesting injustice and many of us are wondering what exactly is going on and others are wondering how can I help. One question I often here is, if there is a God and He’s a “good, loving” God, why does he allow injustice and is there anything I do about it?
The question of why does God allow injustice is not a new question, over the years, many people have asked me that same question. Some of those asking are folks looking for a way to justify not believing in God; and some are folks honestly confused.
The best answer I have seen is that when God created humans, he gave us free will, so we can choose to be good or evil. He did not create us to be marionettes where we all dance in concert, as if we are puppets on a string. Therefore, that means there are going to be some folks who are truly evil human beings and who inflict injustice on others. God does not condone injustice, and those who practice it will eventually face judgment for every injustice they commit.
But what about now? What can you and I do about injustice?
We can start by showing people empathy. What is empathy? It’s NOT sympathy, it’s thinking about others, trying to understand things from their point of view, regardless of what’s going on with ourselves; “2 Corinthians 11:25-29 “Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern? It’s not always about ourselves, and empathy is not the same as sympathy. Understanding, looking at things from the other person’s point of view, recognizing what’s going on, and then once we know what they are feeling then we can Practice Empathy.
It’s important that we practice empathy, “And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:26 — People around our nation and the world are suffering and feeling pain, please at least try to understand what they’re going through. Think about this for a second, in 1684 the Isabella, a British slave ship brought the first slaves from Africa to the United States. It took almost 200 years for slavery to finally be abolished in the United States. Even after slavery was abolished, in the South, laws were passed called, black codes that effectively made black Americans second class citizens. It was 100 years later in 1965 that the Federal Government finally passed the civil rights act, promising all Americans equality. Now, imagine for a moment that you’re an African-American and your family history tells of going from slavery, to servitude, to second class citizen status, where you couldn’t live where you wanted, get the job that you wanted, and were often subjected to name calling and other indignities. Don’t you think that you might be frustrated with how you and your family have been treated? Now there are those who will argue with me that things are just ok now and it’s not a problem, and all I have to say, is look around and ask around. Once you do, once you open your eyes, and maybe, just maybe walked a mile in the other person’s shoes, you’ll be able to understand the feelings that the other person has. Once you understand what’s going on, then you can actually practice empathy.
Remember, there is injustice in the world, because God gave us the ability to make a choice, and some folks choose to be evil. Eventually, evil will fall apart, and until it does, it is up to each of us to speak out against it and help it’s downfall. Try to understand what the other person is going through, see the world through their eyes, and stand up for justice.
God bless and peace y’all
