Last week we heard that Jesus is the only true and perfect judge of every person. But what happens when the judge becomes the accused? How will Jesus defend Himself? What witnesses will he call to help us get to the truth?
The witnesses Jesus calls to the stand don't just benefit the original audience--they benefit us too. Listening to their testimony just might open the door to abundant, eternal life.
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John. Come early for coffee and be ready to worship with us at 10:00. See you there!
What is Truth? And how do we know it? "Truly I tell you...." These are the words Jesus uses again and again to get our attention. To snap us back to reality. To turn our gaze from "my truth" to "The Truth." So that we might live and not die.
At the heart of the Christian message is Jesus as the One Truth that every person must believe if we want to be well. That doesn't sit well with everybody, or even with us sometimes. Are you willing to abandon everything, give up control, and believe the One Truth that can set you free?
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John. Come early for coffee and be ready to worship with us at 10:00. See you there!
The road to eternal life is full of signs pointing people in the right way. But not everyone can see them. Not everyone wants to see them. How does Jesus help us see the signs so that we believe and have life in his name? And once we see the signs of life, what does that require of us?
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 as we look at one of the signs that John recorded to help us see and believe. Once you see it, you might never be the same.
We are excited to be back in the Gospel of John this week. We'll catch up with Jesus who has an appointment with an unlikely stranger. What motive could he possibly have to arrange this meeting? And what does it have to do with us today?
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 as we go on the journey with Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. There's more going on here than meets the eye.
This week we welcome our friends from Compassion Australia to give an update on their work as well as an opportunity to practice generosity through sponsoring a child. Nathan will wrap up our series on generosity with the joy of giving to the poor and vulnerable.
We can't wait to welcome you, worship with you, and open the Word together. See you Sunday at 10:00!
Tyler continues our series on generosity with a message form 1 Timothy - on the joy of giving to your family--even when it's undeserved.
"Churches don't want you, they just want your money." It's not uncommon to hear people say things like this. And to be honest, there are legitimate grievances lying behind that negative outlook. So then should churches abandon the pooling of resources for Gospel mission altogether?
What does the New Testament actually say about church budgets and our obligation (if any) to contribute to them? How do we as a church appeal for and direct resources to the mission of God in our community without becoming lovers of money ourselves? We'll explore these questions and more this Sunday as we continue our series on generosity--how God's grace makes us generous.
Join us this Sunday as we continue our series that's all about the Gospel of grace, and how it releases us to be joyfully generous. Joel will be bringing a message on generosity through the eyes of Jesus. See you there!
For God so loved the world---that He Gave. And yet sometimes it's so hard for us to be generous. With our time. With our words. With our wallets. Not to mention our lives.
We need help to live free from worry that one day, we won't have enough. Or that God is holding something back from us. We know what were meant to do, but we don't do it. Who can step in and rescue us from clinging on just a bit too tightly to our stuff? To our right to be praised for what we give?
For God so loved the world---that He Gave. The most precious gift He could possibly give. There is nothing that any of us can give back in return that could even come close.
And yet, we find in the Bible and in real life, that the people who understand the depths of His grace have a hard time holding on to what they have. The more you experience free grace, the more you become eager to freely give yourself away.
John 3:16 -- Why is it that we're in danger of perishing anyway? Why do we need to be saved at all?
The answer to those questions has something to do with this: we all want to be known and loved for who we are, but not completely. Everybody wants to be known. Nobody wants to be exposed. Is it possible to be fully loved and fully known but not ashamed? In Christ, the answer is absolutely!
"For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
This weekend we're gathering twice to mark the high point on the church calendar for the year. This Friday we remember the day when the Son of God was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our sins. We share together in the fellowship of His suffering. And then on Sunday, after the darkness comes the light. We celebrate the Life that Jesus has won for His glory and our joy.
Join us on Good Friday at 9:00 for a reflective time of worship and communion. We'll share hot cross buns together after the gathering. And then on Sunday at 10:00 we'll celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and His total victory over death and the grave.
Nicodemus comes in the darkness looking for the Messiah to address the pain and suffering in the world. This Friday we remember the day when the Son of God was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our sins. We share together in the fellowship of His suffering. And then on Sunday, after the darkness comes the light. We celebrate the Life that Jesus has won for His glory and our joy.

Remember the time that Jesus got angry and turned over tables in the temple? He actually did it twice. Why do you think he made such a scene? Was he just flexing, or was something else going on?
This Sunday we're back together at Christies Beach Primary School at 10:00 as we continue our series through John's Gospel: Live. We'd love you to join us at 10:00 for worship and the word. Come early, grab a coffee and meet someone new. See you there!
This week our CityLight South Sunday gathering is on the road at El Shaddai in Wellington. We'd love you to join us at 10:00 online citylightsouth.au/live.
We'll be back at Christies Beach Primary School at 10:00 next week as we continue our journey through the Gospel of John. And then join us the following Friday at 9:00 for our Good Friday gathering, or our Easter Sunday gathering at 10:00. See you soon!
This Sunday Caleb Turko joins us from Anchor Church Port Adelaide
John told us why he wrote his gospel. He wants you to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. And then to have life in his name. So why do you suppose the first "sign" he records to prove Jesus's true identity is the time he served some really nice wine at a wedding?
This Sunday Caleb Turko joins us from Anchor Church Port Adelaide to explore this question and much more.
"You've gotta see this!"
"Hey, watch this!"
Depending on the context, these words could indicate either that something exciting is happening right now, or that someone is about to need an ambulance.
Early on in the ministry of Jesus, the excitement around him was palpable. Ordinary people were amazed by the things he said and did. For some, that early excitement later turned into disgust. But for others, that simple invitation to "come and see" changed their lives forever.
This week, Tyson will be taking us to the end of the first chapter of John with a look at how Jesus called his first followers. You won't want to miss it.
Imagine yourself standing in the court of heaven. Everyone stands to their feet as the Judge of the universe takes His seat. You're relieved to discover that there's only one question to answer. And the question is this: What did you do with Jesus?
Before you're convinced that He is the only solution to your most basic problem--you have to be a little curious. Is he really the only One who can deal with our sin and bring us to life? Or can we overcome all the trials of this life and the next on our own? How you answer those questions makes all the difference.
There was a time when the God of the universe, who lives in unapproachable light, did not exist in human form. The only way a person could get close to God was through the high priest, who served in the presence of God at the temple in Jerusalem.
One night in a town not far from the temple, everything changed. God came down. He took on human flesh and blood. He moved into our neighbourhood. How did he do it, and more importantly, why? Why does the eternal Son of God, the One who created the universe, have fingernails like us? Might his flesh be the thing that convinces us that he doesn't just love us, He actually likes us?
The night that Jesus was born, light from heaven filled the sky. Wherever Jesus went, there was light. Whoever has Jesus has light. Light that illuminates. Light that enlivens our souls. Light that exposes secrets.
Light is necessary for life, but it can also be scary if we're not content with life as it currently is. The light of Christ doesn't just show us how things are and leave us there. The light of Christ overcomes. The light of Christ brings new life. This is John's message that we'll unpack this week as we continue our journey in this epic Gospel.
Eternal life. The most famous verse in the whole Bible says that anyone who believes in Jesus will not die but have eternal life. We were meant to live and not die. And not just to live, but to live forever, basking in the joy of togetherness with the God who loves us.
This Sunday we kick off our epic journey through the Gospel of John where we explore this question--what does it mean to live forever? And why is Jesus so determined to give us that gift? This week we go all the way back to the beginning of time to start our quest for joy.
This Sunday we get to celebrate together what God has done at CityLight South Church over the past four years. We'll wrap up our Belong series with a look at the first and last weddings in the Bible--and the good news that we get to be a part of the big one that's coming. This Sunday is all about joy in Jesus, the bridegroom.
You Belong to a House of All Nations.we continue our series on what it means to belong to the community of God's people. This week Joel Ramsey will be bringing the word on what it means to belong to the building of Christ--the new Temple that He's building with ordinary people from all backgrounds.
As we continue our new series on what it means to belong to the community of God's people. This week Michael Nganga will be bringing the word on what it means to belong to the Body of Christ. Come early, grab a coffee and meet someone new!
Your Church Family
A family is when everybody wants to come to the table, but no one wants to do the washing up. Or maybe your family is different than mine. So when we say the church is like a family, or more precisely, the church IS a family, what exactly do we mean?
NYE
Nathan
Treasure Jesus - an act of worship which flows from a heart of love for Jesus.
You're heard the song "Mary, Did You Know?" But how much do you know about Mary the mother of Jesus? She's one of the most fascinating characters in the Bible. Over the centuries she's either been idolised or ignored. But her story has everything to do with how Jesus, the Saviour of the world, came to be.
How young is too young to be a politician? 25? 18? What about 8? That's how old Josiah was when he became the king of a whole country. How could he possibly succeed at such a young age? What are the markers of any successful, godly leader? And how do those markers point us to the baby in the manger?
Advent Tales: the Stories of How Jesus Came to Be
This week we're unpacking one of the most well known stories in all the Bible-- the tale of David and Goliath. Why is it in the Bible and what are we meant to learn from it? Is it all about us facing our giants? Or is it all about Jesus? The answer might surprise you.
Everybody likes a good love story--especially at Christmas time. It makes you wonder though--what does a couple finding love in surprising places have to do with the birth of Jesus? The answer is: more than you might think.
This week we're jumping into the story of Ruth--a woman whose loyalty and kindness led her into the family tree of Christ Himself. Her wedding day wasn't the end of her story though; it was just the beginning. Join us this week to learn how "happily ever after" isn't just a fairy tale, but a promise.
We're starting a new series which will take us through the Advent season. It's 5 weeks of 5 stories that paved the way for Jesus tp be born in Bethlehem.
This week we're looking at the incredible story of a wise woman from the east named Rehab. God positioned her exactly where He wanted her to be to save not only her, but her whole family, and a whole nation. And we'll see why Rahab is remembered as a beautiful example of faith in action.
Jesus is coming! Not to a stall in Bethlehem this time, but on a day not to far from now, the whole world will see Him. Some will be ready, others not. And just like when a surge of electricity shows up at your home--it's important that when Jesus comes--we're all grounded. Not shifting a millimetre from our hope in the Gospel.
This Sunday we're wrapping up our series in 2 Peter talking about how to stay grounded as we wait for Christ's return. And how the wedding that's coming motivates us to action.
The Second Coming of Jesus. The End of Days. The Day of the Lord. We don't know when He's coming--just that He will. And that means good news and vindication for everyone who believes in Jesus. But it also means bad news and judgment for everyone who doesn't.
While there are people a bit too focused on the "end times," I find that many of the Christians I know ignore it altogether. We live as if the world as we know it will go on forever. But the Bible paints a clear picture of the future that's coming-- and it changes the way we look at the world, our neighbours, and ourselves. It changes our focus. Like people who know their time is short.
Life is war. If you have declared your allegiance to Christ and His kingdom, there's a battle being waged for your soul. It's a battle that Christ has already won, but there are days when it doesn't feel like it.
Peter wants you to know the enemy's game plan. Not to scare you, but to equip you to fight. One of the best tools we have to fight is the knowledge that we're not alone. God is fighting for us. And we're surrounded by an army of faithful brothers and sisters who have each other's backs.
Every morning we wake up wondering if the breaking news overnight is big enough to disrupt our lives. The news cycle, as they call it, seems to be getting darker and crazier all the time. But has it always been this way? And will it always be this way?
The Gospel is good news in a world of breaking bad news. And the truth of the Gospel is that one day, Jesus himself will break into the news cycle and bring an end to all sin, evil, war and disease. But what does that mean for us now? How does the reality of the final judgment that's coming change our posture when facing the joys and sorrows of life? Peter wants you to have hope. Hope that is stronger than anything else you've been promised.
Heresies exist, and are more pervasive, appealing and damaging than you might think... but Jesus is our real hope, solid defense, and great rescuer.
One of the dangers we face when following Jesus is the danger of drifting off to sleep--spiritually speaking. We might be able to coast along for awhile without much thought, until disaster strikes out of seemingly nowhere.
Peter wrote a letter from jail to people he loved so much because he wanted them to wake up. And not just by his own words, but by all the words that God spoke. We have access to those words too. And they hold the key to waking us up from our spiritual drowsiness.
Eternal life begins the moment we die and shuck off our earth suit and fly away to be with Jesus in heaven. Or does it? What if eternal life began the moment you first believed in Jesus and were saved by His power and grace?
This Sunday, Joel Ramsey will be bringing us the second instalment in our series in 2 Peter--Grounded. What does it mean to be grounded in life and godliness? Is it really possible to become more like Jesus and what is your role in your own transformation? If you want to experience more confidence in God and His work in you, then this message is one you'll want to hear.
We're getting stuck into the last letter Peter wrote before he died. He's writing to remind us of the truth that keeps us from getting blown over by the winds of culture and desire.
2 Peter 1:1-2
1 Simeon Peter, a slave and an apostle of Jesus Christ: To those who have obtained a faith of equal privilege with ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Michael Waskiel, who leads the Evangelical Students ministry at Flinders University, will be joining us this Sunday to preach on Gospel partnership from Philippians 1. How can we as individuals and as a church partner with others across our city and across the globe for His glory and our joy?
Last week we got a glimpse of our future--face down before Jesus the Lamb in joy-fuelled worship. This week we turn our eyes back to the present as we think about how we can maximise the number of men and women who will have the opportunity to join in the party that's coming.
What is the end goal of mission? And what is your role in it all? Those are the questions we'retackling this Sunday. We'll be unpacking Revelation 5, a preview of heaven andthe worship of the Lamb who conquered death. If you've ever wanted to understand why an ordinary person might pack up theirlives and move across the country or across the ocean for the sake of mission--you'll want to catch a glimpse of the heart behind it this week
This Sunday we welcome back Pastor Joel Lomman from Gospel Life Church in Fullarton. He will be sharing not only about church planting in general but about an the upcoming launch of a specific new church just up the road. We are really excited to get around what God is doing right across the Onkaparinga region.
Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesian church that in each local church — the world will see the very wisdom of God on display. Every church full of Jesus worshippers is a signpost pointing to the coming Kingdom of God— where evil is banished and goodness and love reign forever.
So to plant a new church is to raise yet another signpost. For more people to see, for more people to be in awe of God's love and kindness, for more people to worship Jesus in the very way they were made to.
We're kicking off a brand new series on the mission of God and what that has to do with us.
Few things seem to set Christians at odds with our Neighbours than the issue of sexuality. Compared tothe prevailing views of sex and marriage today, we can seem downrightNeanderthal in our views. But how many of us have done the work to know whatthe Bible actually says? Or are we more shaped by the culture than we realise?
Getting sexuality right isn't just about preparing to love our Neighbours well. It's about laying down the desires we were all born with, and living out whatit means to be born again. That we might love God and others well.
Join us this Sunday for the last message in our series, Do I HaveTo...? We gather at Christies Beach Primary School every Sunday at 10:00for worship and the word. We'll have the coffee machine ready. See youthere!
What is social justice and why should we care about it? Are we responsible to care about things that don't affect us personally? And how do we do justice practically in our already busy lives?
The Bible has a lot to say about justice. It's close to the heart of God. But it's more than a hashtag. More than a political platform. Join us tomorrow at 10:00 as we unpack the meaning of justice for every follower of Jesus.
Join us as Nathan brings us the latest message in our Do I Have To series.
Some of Jesus's very last words as he hung on the cross were a prayer to God the Father that He might forgive the people who killed and mocked Him. And given that He came to die for us--for those who hundreds of years later would believe in His Name-- that prayer of forgiveness was for us too.
So if that's true, why is it so hard for us to forgive other people who have hurt us? Jesus knew that the call to forgive was hard. That's why he talked about it a lot. And why we need to come back to His words and His example again and again.
It's time to talk about everybody's favourite topic: money. Jesus talked about money a lot. And so you might wonder what He (and the rest of the Bible) has to say about giving to the church or to meet other needs. Many Christians have been taught that the conversation stops and starts with the tithe--giving 10% of your income. But is that what the Bible actually says?
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 for worship and to explore the topic of God-shaped generosity.
The first two take-aways from the first church sermon ever preached were these: repent and be baptised. And so for 2,000 years, Christians have lined up to be sprinkled and dunked in obedience to Christ's command. But how many of us really understand why Jesus and the apostles commanded every new believer to be baptised?
We hope you can join us this Sunday as we explore what it means to be baptised. And if you've never been baptised yourself (or you were as a baby and are thinking about being baptised as a believer), we hope to encourage you with what the Bible really says about passing through the water.
Jesus came to earth to seek and save the lost. He forgives their sins on the basis of His death, and then adopts them into His family called the church. Anyone is saved is Jesus belongs to the church. But then what does that mean when it comes to attending and belonging to a real life local church?
We've come a long way from the days of guilt-based legalism around church attendance. But sadly, we've too easily exchanged the communal solidarity of regular church gathering for popping in and out when it suits our busy schedules. What does the Bible have to say about going to church? Isn't it enough to just be the church wherever we are?
We'll tackle these questions and more this Sunday at CityLight South. We meet at 10:00 in the gym at Christies Beach Primary School for worship and the word. We'll have the heaters on and the coffee machine steaming. Come early and stick around afterwords to connect over a coffee. See you there!
Jesus didn't mess around when he said to His followers-- "If you love me, you'll obey my commandments." In other words, if you don't care much about knowing and doing what God would have you do, you can't honestly say that you love Him.
We know that we're not saved by works. We're saved by grace through the work of Christ. But we are saved for good works--the things God prepared in advance for you, and only you, to do. But what are those things and how do we know? How do we know which commands in the Bible are for us in 2023 and which ones have passed their use by date?
We'll tackle these questions and more this Sunday at CityLight South. We meet at 10:00 in the gym at Christies Beach Primary School for worship and the word.
We're starting a new teaching series today! The Gospel is all about what Christ did to reconcile us sinners to God. But other than believe that it's true, we often wonder, what else do we have to do?
We've compiled a list of common questions that Christians are often asking these days. They're not only practical, but they teach us how to read the Bible and better know the heart of God. This week we kick off with "Do I Have To Believe Everything Christians Believe?" And if so, how do we choose when Christians disagree about an issue (like that ever happens!). And isn't disagreement a sign of disunity? We'll explore these questions and more this week.
We'd love to welcome you to our Sunday gathering. We meet each week at 10:00 in the gym at Christies Beach Primary School for worship and the word. We'll have the heaters on and the coffee machine steaming. Come early and stick around afterwords to connect over a coffee. See you there!
I don't know anybody who likes to wait in line. We'll do it, if the prize seems worth it. Just ask any Taylor Swift fan trying to get concert tickets this week. But if we could get the prize without waiting, most of us would choose that path.
Chosen exiles are men and women who have been saved and forgiven, and yet they're waiting for the ultimate prize still to come-- to be safe in the presence of Jesus forever. So what do we do while we're waiting? How do we avoid being picked off by the devil? How do we resist him and hold on when waiting and life is hard? Peter has a final word for those of us in the waiting room, and you don't want to miss it.
We'd love you to join us this Sunday for the final message in our series on 1 Peter.
You need encouragement every day. Because life is hard sometimes, and because we forget who we belong to. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves and each other is to remind us where to look. To look at Jesus who suffered, but is now seated in glory.
Suffering is real. It's hard. But glory is coming. Jesus suffered that you might know unending, always and forever joy. Joel will be bringing the word from 1 Peter 4 this Sunday, so come prepared to be encouraged and to encourage.
THE LIFE SERIES. ALL ABOUT JESUS. Everyone is invited Sunday evenings, starting the 20th of August.

If you knew that Jesus would return to earth to judge and to rule over everything before the end of 2023, what might you pencil in your diary next week? How might you live differently?
We know that the finished work of Jesus on the cross and the empty tomb changed everything and made it possible for sinners like us to be reconciled to God. But what about the future work of Christ? How does that affect our everyday lives right where we are?
This Sunday we've got Tyson bringing the word to us from 1 Peter 3. It's an encouraging word about Hope; to anyone who is doing in tough while following Jesus. We'll spend some time looking again at the full extent of His radical offering for us. You won't want to miss this week.
We've been looking over the past two weeks at submission. To the government. To masters. Now this week we turn our gaze closer to home. The Bible instructs Christian wives to submit to their husbands, and husbands to love and honour their wives. But in 2023, are those commands still relevant? Aren't they a reflection of old-fashioned values and just a little bit sexist?
Whether you're married or not, you won't want to miss this week's message. Plus we've got another awesome CityLight South family ready to dedicate their child to the Lord this week.
Sometimes the Bible throws us a curve ball. (Sorry not sorry for the American baseball analogy.) This week's passage in 1 Peter 2:18-25 has a couple of those. Some have read this passage and come away thinking the Bible is quite okay with the practice of slavery. Others conclude that it's never okay for Christians to resist injustice. So what's the truth?
This week we'll unpack that passage in context to discover not only what the Bible says about these important questions, but how those answers point us to Jesus and strengthen our hope.
This week is the first of three messages in 1 Peter focused on the social order-- how do we relate to the government, the marketplace, and families in a way that makes the love of Jesus shine in our country?
This week we look at why Peter, a man who would soon be executed by an evil emperor, instructs us to submit to and honor that very same emperor. It has nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with Jesus. So whether you're an avid follower of politics or not, you won't want to miss this important message for us all.
James will be joining us from GospelLife Church to lead the band, and Michael will be preaching for the first time at CityLight South. It's all about our new family and our new purpose as believers in Jesus.
Public health officials around the world agree-- people self-report as lonely now more than ever. And that has massive implications for the well-being not just of individuals, but of communities and nations. We might be quick to point the finger at technology, but what if the problem is deeper than that? And what if the solution is all around us?
God created all of us for community. For deep friendships that help us experience the love and goodness of God. But to get that kind of community--you need a whole lotta love. And love springs from its source-- the life-giving, love-creating word of God.
Waiting is hard. It stretches our patience to the limit. But what does it mean to wait on God? And why aren't we better at it? This week we're jumping into the tension between what is already true (Jesus is risen!) and what will be true very soon (we are raised to be with Him). We'll try to figure out the point of all the waiting, and along the way, discover the secret to what Peter calls inexpressible joy in the middle of intense suffering.

We're launching a brand new series in the book of 1 Peter called Chosen (Exiles). It's all about living with the blessings of Christ in the brokenness of our world and the brokenness of ourselves. It's about learning to live out the hope we have in light of the pain we carry. It's about hope in Jesus that endures in every season.
This week is also Church Planting Sunday, where we get to pray and hear a bit about what Acts 29 is up to, planting churches in every corner of the globe. https://vimeo.com/808848753 We look forward to seeing you this week!
Luke 23
Nathan looks at Why did Jesus have to suffer on the cross? & What does the suffering of Jesus mean for us today?
Sharing the Gospel is hard. For everyone. Even Paul the Gospel warrior asked people he'd never met to pray for him to have the courage to keep sharing the Gospel of Jesus clearly.
Even though it's hard, there's hope for us all. Not in a technique, but in a Person. Jesus is able to help us share Jesus with anyone He's pursuing. It will require leaning into our weakness, praying a lot, and one or two other things that we'll talk about in our last message in Gospel Fluency this week.

Footy season is upon us again. I wonder--what would you say is the easiest way to recognise a Port Adelaide fan as opposed to say a Crows fan? (Be nice please.) Now do Christians. What is the easiest way to spot a Christian? Is it the way they dress? Speak? What they do on Sunday morning? According to Jesus, there's just one thing that sets us apart: genuine love for each other.
Love is harder than it sounds. But when it's missing from the life of a Christian or a Christian church, the consequences can be devastating. This Sunday we're in our second to last week of Gospel Fluency, and it's all about the Gospel in action. It's all about love.

Every story has a hero. She might be a step ahead of everyone. He might be the only one with enough guts to do what it takes.
Who is the hero of your story? Is it the fighter on the mirror? Or is it the one who fights for you when you just can’t? Every religion but one says you are the hero. Work hard. Be good. Say you’re sorry enough times. The Gospel says the work is done— the Hero of your story is the One who conquered death. And it’s He who changes us— so that when we look in the mirror, we see new men and new women that reflect the Hero.

Every week when we gather for worship, we take communion, otherwise known as the Lord's Supper. The bread and the wine are symbols representing the body and blood of Jesus. We tear the bread and pour out the cup to re-enact and remember the death of Jesus that opened the way for us who believe to have eternal life.
In the earliest days of the church, the Lord's Supper was taken in the middle of a community meal. One where men and women, the rich and the poor, Jews and Gentiles ate together as a defiant demonstration of their blood-bought unity. These days Christians don't do regular community meals as a matter of course. But what if every meal we eat alone or with others carries spiritual significance? What if every bite we enjoy is actually an invitation to remember and worship Jesus?

How do people change their behaviour? What about their ingrained habits? It all starts with the heart. To use Jesus' words-- out of the overflow of the heart, we do (or don't do) the things we do.
So what does it take to change our hearts? Do we as Christians have a role to play in any of it? This Sunday we're back looking at Gospel Fluency -- and we're going to war against unbelief that overflows into all kinds of messy and sinful living. And just in case you're wondering-- change is possible. You can change.

This week we have the privilege of welcoming the crew from Compassion Australia to share with us what's been happening in the world since their last visit in 2021. If you haven't had the chance to sponsor a child, now is the time! You can follow this link for more information.

Even though we're meeting in a different time and location this week, we are still one church family gathering for worship. Tyson will be preaching from Luke 17, all about Jesus's heart of compassion.
What do you love? Besides your favourite cafe or sports team, what do you love? The things you give your heart to play a big part in the things we choose to do. If you love gardening you probably have dirt under your fingernails from time to time. If you love Hod and the Gospel, chances are people know about it.
The Gospel has to be good news to you and me before we share it as good news for somebody else. But what do we do when our love for God gets crowded out by our love for other things? Who can really love with their whole heart?

Learning a new language is never easy. But if you stick with it long enough, and you're immersed in the right community, before long, words and sentences will start to flow. Learning the language of the Gospel is no different. To be fluent, we have to start with the basics.
The Gospel story starts with God -- you were created by God and belong to God. It ends with God together with His redeemed people. And right at the very middle, the hero-- God the Son Himself, Jesus Christ. The Gospel is the good news story we need to believe. Again and again and again.
Join us this Sunday at Christies Beach Primary School at 10:00am as we kick off this important new teaching series. We look forward to seeing you there! Our discipleship groups will begin meeting weekly for the duration of the series-- be sure to connect with us if you'd like to join a DG near you!

To become fluent in a new language, you must immerse yourself in it and commit to practicing it, over and over again. You must use it everyday until you actually start to think about life through it. Becoming fluent in the gospel happens the same way—after believing it, we have to intentionally rehearse it (to ourselves and to others) and immerse ourselves in its truths. Only then will we start to see how everything in our lives, from the mundane to the magnificent, is transformed by the hope of the gospel.
Three years have absolutely flown by and we're ready to celebrate everything that God has done and is doing at CityLight South. With Jesus as our engine driving the ship, we are steady and safe, heading toward the prize of seeing Him face to face.
This Sunday we'll be celebrating with one of our family members who is transitioning from one ministry role to another, and welcoming two ministry interns for 2023. After the gathering, we'll have morning tea together followed by a barbecue on the lawn. That's Sunday morning sorted!

Almost everybody wants to be happy. But as Christians, are we meant to pursue happiness in this life or just holiness? Psalm 84 has something to say about the secret of happiness....more of an open secret. Join us this Sunday as we explore this beautiful text together.

We're back this week at Christies Beach Primary School, 10:00am for a message from our very own Nathan Ewers on Psalm 80. The God who made each one of us loves us deeply. Deeply enough to restore us and make us into the new creations we already are in Jesus.
You don’t need surgery, plastic or otherwise, to be made completely new. You just need to stay in one place. Join us this Sunday at 10:00 to find out the only place we need to run to be totally restored.

We're continuing this week our Summer Psalms series, and we'll be looking at perhaps the most famous chapter in the whole Bible--Psalm 23. If you're longing for someone to care, someone to comfort, and someone who is always loving and always good, then we've got a Good Shepherd to introduce you to. And if you've been pondering what to prioritise in 2023, then you won't want to miss the gathering this week.

Why Christmas? What does it mean and why do we make such a big deal of it every year?
At least one person in the cast of Nativity characters knew why. Mary. Mary knew. Christmas isn't about filling up our happiness tanks for the year. It's not even about giving generously to people in need. It's about something deeper. About someone who came to roar at the darkness and shower us with light.

Human beings are worshipping creatures. You, me, your neighbours-- all of us are made to celebrate and praise the things we love the most. The first Christmas was a worship service. There were angel choirs singing along with a small group of people whose eyes were fixed on the most beautiful gift ever given--a baby King.
Not everyone was celebrating that night. The coming of the King is good news--but only for those whose hearts are ready to surrender total control to that baby King.

We're kicking off three Sundays in the Psalms where we'll see just what kind of King we need to rule over us.
As followers of Jesus, we take all our cues for what makes a good leader from Him. The Lord Jesus was and is a righteous King and a just King. Anyone who aspires to lead and influence others like Him must also be righteous and just. But what do those words mean? Come hear how we can align ourselves with the only perfect leader who's ever lived so that the whole world might reap the benefit.

The message of Genesis 50 is about finding the solution to the problem we all face-- the problem of sin on the inside and the outside of all of us. What God began in Genesis, He finished at the cross. So we'll close out ready and waiting for the Promised Rescuer to come. And He will--right on time. That's what Advent is all about.

We're up to our second to last message in Genesis--and it's one you won't want to miss. It's all about our identity as God's people. Are we slaves or are we sons? We'll look at what it actually means to be adopted into God's family and how it changes the way we live every single day.

When Moses wrote Genesis, he was writing to God's people who were migrating out of slavery in Egypt to freedom in the promised land. He showed them why 200 years earlier, God led their ancestors from the land of promise to Egypt in order to save their lives.
To Egypt. Out of Egypt. All this wandering without a permanent home. That's not just the reality for the ancient Israelites, it's our reality as well. If you're in Christ, then your home isn't your current residence. Your home is wherever He is. The big story of the Bible teaches us how to long for that place. The place of resurrection and rest. It's what we call heaven.

We’re finally getting to the dramatic climax of Joseph’s story. What will happen once his true identity is revealed? The answer is less about him and more about his brothers. You’ll see a change in them so dramatic that only God could be the author of it all.

If you're a Christian, then you can change. God is already working in you to cause you to grow more like Jesus. But if that's true, why do we so often seem stuck in the cycle of sin and discouragement?
If you can relate, then you're not alone. Pretty much every person in Joseph's family spent a lifetime struggling with patterns of sin and dysfunction. But somehow God never gave up on them. Join us this week as we walk the road of repentance, glimpsing God's kindness all along the way.

Imagine being in a jail cell and asked by not just one but three powerful people to interpret their dreams. Not super relatable I know. But when it was Joseph’s time to trust God and faithfully represent him to the powerful— he didn’t back down.
Faithfulness to God’s calling may look a lot different for us than for a young man unjustly imprisoned in ancient Egypt. But some things are the same like loving and serving people without expecting anything in return. Faithfulness isn’t always easy, but when the Spirit of God helps us— even our faltering efforts can make much of Jesus in a world that needs to know Him.

We're back following the journey of Joseph from the pit to the palace. He is God's man for the hour, until one person threatens to undo everything. Will they get away with it?
Like Joseph, our lives are full of ups and downs. How do we trust God, much less glorify Him, when things take a turn for the worse? What do we do when we have to choose between obedience to Him and saving our own skin? It's not as far-fetched as it sounds-- in fact, it's ripped from today's headlines.

We're leaving Joseph behind--just for one week--to take a look at the story of an incredible woman who paves the way for the coming of Christ.
Tamar is more than a brave woman who overcomes the odds. She is hand-picked by God to be in the ancestral line of Jesus. She's a beacon of righteousness in a sea of predatory men. And her story has been preserved for our good.

Be honest. How much time do you spend every day scrolling social media? My guess is if you’re average, it’s more than two hours. So then the question is— how is social media influencing you, and is it possible that God is calling to be an influencer on social media? - I know how it sounds. God isn’t calling anybody to be the Christian version of the Kardashians. He is calling us to plant and cultivate a Gospel culture of grace, gentleness, and hope wherever we go — even online.

Prophecy. It's not a word we use every day. But when Jesus kept His promise to send the Holy Spirit to believers, men and women everywhere started to prophesy. They received bits of knowledge or wisdom straight from God and then delivered them to their intended audience.
What's been your experience of prophecy? Have you ever received a word of prophecy from someone else? Or passed on a word of prophecy to someone else? Maybe this all sounds really strange and new. That's ok. The Bible is full of teaching on this way we can use our words to build people in ways that last forever.

We are back in Genesis to wrap up the story of Jacob. We'll look especially at the one thing that Jacob is still doing right now. Hint: it's the same thing we'll be doing along with him forever. And we'll unpack what our faith has to do with the next generation of worshippers.

Hear Tyler share our gospel hope despite a very sad glimpse into the devastating consequences of "private" sin, lust, and misogyny from Genesis 34. We'll hear how the site of one of the most outrageous acts of sexual violence in the Bible becomes a site of redemption and hope for women and men alike.
1) All Sin, No Matter How “Private” Brings Painful Consequences
2) God’s People Must Have a Special Concern for the Flourishing of Women
3) Everything God Promises Is Worth Waiting For

If you've been around church much at all, you've probably heard someone pray for revival. Usually that means we want to see more people meet Jesus, become Christians, and then to be happy in Him more than anything else.
But how does revival happen in the a heart of a person who is either far from God or just a bit apathetic in their faith? What's the secret sauce? Jacob, whose story we're just starting to follow in Genesis, learned where revival comes from and what it does to a person. This week in the gathering, we're going to unpack what that means for you and me. So if you're keen, pray for revival!
Apologies for poor audio quality and sermon is cut short.

The heroes of Genesis don't always shine. Like us, they can be impulsive, selfish, and deceitful. And yet, God is faithful to lead His chosen people through their faltering faith in Him. Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob--these three, along with Esau, take centre stage this week. And by the end of it, you'll be amazed again by the sweetness of His grace for sinners.

2,000 years ago on a quiet morning in Jerusalem, God the Holy Spirit came down and filled the room with the sound of the Gospel. Men and women spoke the good news in dozens of languages. Every other voice was silent as God's word burst into the world through the mouths of ordinary people.
Every local church in Adelaide, in Australia, and in the world can trace its origin back to that first church. The Holy Spirit still empowers ordinary people to live and speak with Gospel intentionality today. The Holy Spirit still sends out some of those same people to plant new local churches so that no one is ever too far from knowing and treasuring the God who loves them.
The last message in the "We Don't Talk About" series. We're talking about Christian freedom and how we navigate those areas of life where the Bible isn't specific and Christians sometimes disagree.
Last week we heard the call to glorify God with our bodies. This week, the call gets even bigger --glorify God in absolutely everything, even the mundane things like eating and drinking. We don't talk about stuff like what we eat and drink because even Christians have trouble knowing what it means to glorify God in those things.

Are we really supposed to believe that sex is only to be enjoyed in marriage? What about people who aren't married or aren't attracted to people of the opposite sex? The culture around us has lots to say about sex, so we ought to check in with what God (the one who created sex and our bodies to start with) has to say.

Here in South Australia, we're just one week away from the second major Election Day this year. As Christians, how are we meant to vote? Does the Bible have anything to say, or is it just something best left unspoken?
We're halfway through our "We Don't Talk About..." series and this week may just be the most tricky topic to talk about yet. But if God built politics and government into the world he made, maybe it's something we ought to talk about more.

Today Tyler continues our "We Don't Talk About..." series with a message on gender equality. What does the Bible have to say in light of our current cultural conversation? How should men and women relate and is gender even a necessary category at all? And how can our complementarian church be a place where women and men flourish together?

As Australians, we've never been more prosperous and comfortable. And yet survey after survey in communities across the country more people are struggling with their mental health. Anxiety and depression more common than ever yet still poorly understood.
What does God think about it all? How is the Gospel good news for those who are living their own dark night of the soul? And how can we talk about mental health in a way that is both wise and life-giving? Join us to hear a word from Simon Jackson, pastor of CityLight Church North Adelaide, and find out once again why the Gospel is good news for the weary and the broken-hearted.

If you're a Christian, then you're predestined and called by God for His good purpose that you become conformed to Christ. You are justified in the beautiful exchange of the cross--your sin for His righteousness. And you are and will be glorified in a resurrected, sinless body like Christ. This is your destiny.
But how do we live as justified and soon-to-be glorified men and women now? What do the realities of Good Friday and Easter Sunday mean for us who are struggling with sin and circumstances? These are just some of the questions of Romans 8:30. Come and hear the Word of God this Easter Weekend.

If you're a believer in Jesus-- you are a living miracle. What God accomplished at the cross for you was planned from the beginning of time and is being carried out in the mundane moments, the restless moments, and even the excruciating moments of your life.
That's what Romans 8:30 is all about. "Those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified." What God started in you before you were born, He will finish. If you want to learn to trust what God is doing in and through you, our sermon series is: "school starts at 8:30".

You probably don' t need to see the research to know that these days, we've never been better off, and at the same time, we've never been more anxious. Yet how many of us believe that if only I had _____, then I could finally relax? A long overdue holiday. A more reliable car. A spouse. The all-clear. Even for those of us who believe the Gospel, our circumstances often affect our mood more than Christ.
In the middle of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us to stop worrying and start seeking the kingdom of God. But what does that mean? Is He telling us to give up trying to change things and just turn up the volume on the worship music? Not exactly.
Join us today to unpack what it means to be in Christ and over ourselves. If like me, you struggle with worry, you don't want to miss it.

These days, the word 'religion' has a bad reputation. Maybe you've even heard the phrase that Jesus doesn't want your religion, he wants a relationship. But what if our problem isn't with religion itself, but the way we practice it?
Jesus assumes that we will give generously to the poor. That we'll pray often. That we'll fast. These things are pleasing to God and life-giving to us. At the same time, when we practice these things to get validation from other people, they're soul killers.
Join us tomorrow as we learn to unhitch from performative religion to find the freedom of pure and true religion with Jesus.

What is it that makes Christians special? Is it our confidence that we will be with Jesus when we die? Or perhaps we can learn to be "practically perfect in every way," like Mary Poppins. Jesus seemed to think that Christians ought to be perfect. But what did he mean by that?

We're back in the Sermon on the Mount as we unpack the question what must a Christian do to be saved?
In the Beatitudes, Jesus said that men and women who are pure in heart are blessed because they will see God. No one else will be able to stand in God's presence. The pre-requisite for admission isn't a checklist of good deeds or religious sentiment. The only thing needed is a heart that has never failed to love and obey God completely.
So who then can be saved? Nobody is born with a pure heart. Therefore no one is qualified to see God. Except for the One who never broke a single one of God's commands. Because He had a pure heart that wanted to obey. That of course is Jesus. He is good enough for God. And so is anyone found in Him.

Salt & Light // Matt 5:13-16
Not long ago, nearly everybody in Australia would have identified themselves with some kind of Christian tradition or denomination. Not anymore. Less than half of our neighbours would claim the Christian mantle today. Some say that's a good thing--a sign of healthy progress and self-confidence. So what should we think about it? Does it even matter?
Jesus tells us in the Sermon on the Mount that the presence of growing disciples in the world is a good thing for the world. Disciples are salt and light-- necessary for functioning and flourishing. But how does that square with so many reports of Christians behaving badly? And how do we, weak and distracted as we sometimes are, live up this ideal? Isn't it just better for everyone if we keep our faith to ourselves and get on with regular life, just like everyone else?
Today we're back in the Sermon on the Mount for the wisdom and encouragement we need to answer these questions and more.

If you could design your best life, what would it look like? Just enough work to pay the bills, be meaningful and interspersed with relaxing holidays? Or is it possible that your true best life looks nothing like the Instagrammable lives of the rich and comfortable?
The Sermon on the Mount is the longest record of the things that Jesus taught. And his take on your best life--the blessed life--both tells us who we are already and who we are called to become.
We hope you'll join us for the next eight weeks as we look at the sermon that changed the world and each of our lives forever.
DESCRIPTION: who you already are. ASPIRATION: who you’re called to become.

This week, by the grace of God, CityLight South will mark two years since we began gathering at Christies Beach Primary School. While things haven't exactly gone according to our plan, God has been faithful every step of the way.
Tyler shares a word from Romans 12 on what it means to live in light of God's mercy for recovering sinners like us. And we'll take a look ahead at 2022 with plenty of encouragement along the way.

Josh wraps up our summer series in the book of Jonah, God's Mercy for Dummies.
What makes you uncomfortable? How about angry? Are they the same things that provoke God to anger? Or are we more like Jonah--ticked off because life is unfair and uncomfortable?
At the heart of God's mercy is a beautiful and uncomfortable truth: people like us don't get what we deserve. And people like "them" don't get what they deserve either. And that's actually really good news for everybody--no matter how terrible your day has been.

Josh continues our series from the book of Jonah-- God's Mercy for Dummies.
You'll find out that God's love for His people doesn't always look and feel like we think it should. And yet somehow, it's better than we imagine.
The truth of God's mercy can be like a breath of fresh air early in the morning. Every once in awhile it feels like being washed up on a beach all alone right after a narrow escape from the belly of a fish. At least it did for Jonah.

Tyler contiunes our new series in the book of Jonah.
God's mercy for sinners is sweeter and deeper than we know. So why is it that we can go through life and not give it much of a thought?
Is it possible that we've believed a few things that aren't true, and that those lies pour water on the joy we can experience? Jonah had time to think about truth and lies inside the stomach of a fish.

Today Tyler unpacks Philippians 2:5-11 - It's one of the most beautiful passages in all of Scripture!
Paul was convinced that Christ would be highly honoured in his body, no matter whether he lived or died. His confidence is stunning, and it came from his rock solid belief that Christ had already been highly honoured by God the Father. That right now, the Jesus who once hung on a cross, lay buried in a tomb, was now seated at the right hand of God.
Paul's confidence is our confidence. Christ is risen, exalted, seated at the right hand of glory. And one day we'll be with Him. So the life well lived is a life lived in light of that glorious future reality.

Today we continue our Advent series from the book of Philippians, "To Live Is Christ."
How confident are you that your life is "on track?" Paul was confident that God would finish the good work he started in each one of His people. And his ambition was to make Jesus big, in every aspect of his life and even in death.
So how do we make Jesus big with our lives? What should we aspire to be and to do? Have we settled for something less than what God wants for us?

It's the final episode in the life of Abraham--the one where he passes the baton to his son Isaac. The one where he dies and receives his full reward from the God who he had learned to trust with his whole self.

Genesis 19 (CSB)
1) God is slow to anger, but His justice is coming.
“Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.” Romans 1:24
The Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, 7 maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished…. Exodus 34:6-7
2) God Rescues the Reluctant, but Reluctance is Deadly
Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. Jude 1:7
“Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to make his life secure will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.” Luke 17:32
3) If God Considers You Family, Your Future Is Secure
So it was, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham and brought Lot out of the middle of the upheaval when he demolished the cities where Lot had lived. Genesis 19:29

God does not choose faithful people, He gives grace to the faithless. His grace enables us to resist the life of ease and embrace hardship, where we find even more of His grace.
Today we're back with Abram and Sarai, but things aren’t looking good. God's promised land has run out of food, and God's chosen man has run out of options.

This week we are jumping back into Genesis. For the next 12 weeks we'll be on the journey of faith with father Abraham. We'll find out what Paul meant when he told the Galatians (3:7) that anyone who has faith is a son of Abraham.
Joshua 24:2, Mark 10:29-30, Galatians 3:7-9,16, (CSB)
“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and set out for a place that he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”

1) God has been immeasurably generous to us,
2) We are called out of trusting and hoping in the wealth and riches of this life
3) We are called into radical generosity
2 Corinthians 8:1-5, 9:6-12
What does radical generosity look like?
1) It is a Grace to the giver (vs 1)
2) It is a Spiritual Discipline (vs 2)
3) It is Sacrificial (vs 2)
4) It is according to your means (vs 3)
5) It is as you decide in your heart (vs 7)
6) It is joy-filled (vs 7)
7) It includes the local church (vs 12)
8) It is part of Worship (vs 5 and 12)

Baptism points to the miracle of our union with Christ and is fuel for our joy and hope in Him. Believers' baptism is required for church membership because Jesus commanded it and the church has always practiced it.

9 These are the family records of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his contemporaries; Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Mark 15:1-15 (CSB)
1 As soon as it was morning, having held a meeting with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin, the chief priests tied Jesus up, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
2 So Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
He answered him, “You say so.”
3 And the chief priests accused him of many things. 4 Pilate questioned him again, “Aren’t you going to answer? Look how many things they are accusing you of!” 5 But Jesus still did not answer, and so Pilate was amazed.
6 At the festival Pilate used to release for the people a prisoner whom they requested. 7 There was one named Barabbas, who was in prison with rebels who had committed murder during the rebellion. 8 The crowd came up and began to ask Pilate to do for them as was his custom. 9 Pilate answered them, “Do you want me to release the king of the Jews for you?” 10 For he knew it was because of envy that the chief priests had handed him over. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he would release Barabbas to them instead. 12 Pilate asked them again, “Then what do you want me to do with the one you call the king of the Jews?”
13 Again they shouted, “Crucify him!”
14 Pilate said to them, “Why? What has he done wrong?”
But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!”
15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Mark 14:27-52 (CSB)
Peter’s Denial Predicted 27 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will fall away,[a] because it is written:
I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.[b]
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”
29 Peter told him, “Even if everyone falls away, I will not.”
30 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to him, “today, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.”
31 But he kept insisting, “If I have to die with you, I will never deny you.” And they all said the same thing.
The Prayer in the Garden 32 Then they came to a place named Gethsemane, and he told his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 He said to them, “I am deeply grieved[c] to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.” 35 He went a little farther, fell to the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, “Abba,[d] Father! All things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will.” 37 Then he came and found them sleeping. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake one hour? 38 Stay awake and pray so that you won’t enter into temptation.[e] The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 Once again he went away and prayed, saying the same thing. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, because they could not keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him. 41 Then he came a third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The time has come. See, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up; let’s go. See, my betrayer is near.”
Judas’s Betrayal of Jesus 43 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, suddenly arrived. With him was a mob, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. 44 His betrayer had given them a signal. “The one I kiss,” he said, “he’s the one; arrest him and take him away under guard.” 45 So when he came, immediately he went up to Jesus and said, “Rabbi!” and kissed him. 46 They took hold of him and arrested him. 47 One of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear.
48 Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as if I were a criminal,[f] to capture me? 49 Every day I was among you, teaching in the temple, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must be fulfilled.”
50 Then they all deserted him and ran away. 51 Now a certain young man, wearing nothing but a linen cloth, was following him. They caught hold of him, 52 but he left the linen cloth behind and ran away naked.
Mark 14:1-21 (CSB)
The Plot to Kill Jesus 14 It was two days before the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread. The chief priests and the scribes were looking for a cunning way to arrest Jesus and kill him. 2 “Not during the festival,” they said, “so that there won’t be a riot among the people.”
The Anointing at Bethany 3 While he was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper,[a] as he was reclining at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured it on his head. 4 But some were expressing indignation to one another: “Why has this perfume been wasted? 5 For this perfume might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[b] and given to the poor.” And they began to scold her.
6 Jesus replied, “Leave her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a noble thing for me. 7 You always have the poor with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have me. 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body in advance for burial. 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.”
10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. 11 And when they heard this, they were glad and promised to give him money. So he started looking for a good opportunity to betray him.
Preparation for Passover 12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, his disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare the Passover so that you may eat it?”
13 So he sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” 16 So the disciples went out, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
Betrayal at the Passover 17 When evening came, he arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.”
19 They began to be distressed and to say to him one by one, “Surely not I?”
20 He said to them, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping bread in the bowl with me. 21 For the Son of Man will go just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for him if he had not been born.”
The Authority of Jesus Challenged 27 They came again to Jerusalem. As he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came 28 and asked him, “By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority to do these things?”
29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; then answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was John’s baptism from heaven or of human origin? Answer me.”
31 They discussed it among themselves: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’”—they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet. 33 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”
And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
The Parable of the Vineyard Owner 12 He began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug out a pit for a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went away. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the farmers to collect some of the fruit of the vineyard from them. 3 But they took him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Again he sent another servant to them, and they[a] hit him on the head and treated him shamefully.[b] 5 Then he sent another, and they killed that one. He also sent many others; some they beat, and others they killed. 6 He still had one to send, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7 But those tenant farmers said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 So they seized him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. 9 What then will the owner[c] of the vineyard do? He will come and kill the farmers and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven’t you read this Scripture:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
11 This came about from the Lord
and is wonderful in our eyes?”[d]
12 They were looking for a way to arrest him but feared the crowd because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

The Gospel is everything!
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, 5 made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 He also raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavens in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might display the immeasurable riches of his grace through his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. -- Ephesians 2:4-7 (CSB)

A Blind Man Healed
46 They came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more, “Have mercy on me, Son of David!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called the blind man and said to him, “Have courage! Get up; he’s calling for you.” 50 He threw off his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.
51 Then Jesus answered him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
“Rabboni,”[a] the blind man said to him, “I want to see.”
52 Jesus said to him, “Go, your faith has saved you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Jesus on the road.
The Triumphal Entry
11 When they approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples 2 and told them, “Go into the village ahead of you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here right away.’”
4 So they went and found a colt outside in the street, tied by a door. They untied it, 5 and some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 They answered them just as Jesus had said; so they let them go.
7 They brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their clothes on the road, and others spread leafy branches cut from the fields.[a] 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted:
Hosanna!
Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord![b]
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom
of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!
11 He went into Jerusalem and into the temple. After looking around at everything, since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.

Mark 10:1-16 CSB The Question of Divorce 10 He set out from there and went to the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Then crowds converged on him again, and as was his custom he taught them again.
2 Some Pharisees came to test him, asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 He replied to them, “What did Moses command you?”
4 They said, “Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away.”
5 But Jesus told them, “He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts. 6 But from the beginning of creation God[a] made them male and female.[b] 7 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother [c] 8 and the two will become one flesh.[d] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
10 When they were in the house again, the disciples questioned him about this matter. 11 He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 Also, if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
Blessing the Children 13 People were bringing little children to him in order that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive[e] the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 After taking them in his arms, he laid his hands on them and blessed them.
Mark 9:30-50 (CSB)
The Second Prediction of His Death
30 Then they left that place and made their way through Galilee, but he did not want anyone to know it. 31 For he was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed[a] into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after he is killed, he will rise three days later.” 32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask him.
Who Is the Greatest?
33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” 34 But they were silent, because on the way they had been arguing with one another about who was the greatest. 35 Sitting down, he called the Twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last and servant of all.” 36 He took a child, had him stand among them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes[b] one little child such as this in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but him who sent me.”
In His Name
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone[c] driving out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he wasn’t following us.”
39 “Don’t stop him,” said Jesus, “because there is no one who will perform a miracle in my name who can soon afterward speak evil of me. 40 For whoever is not against us is for us. 41 And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ —truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.
Warnings from Jesus
42 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to fall away —it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
43 “And if your hand causes you to fall away, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell, the unquenchable fire.[d] 45 And if your foot causes you to fall away, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.[e] 47 And if your eye causes you to fall away, gouge it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.[f] 49 For everyone will be salted with fire.[g][h] 50 Salt is good, but if the salt should lose its flavor, how can you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”

Mark 9:14-28 (CSB) The Power of Faith over a Demon 14 When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and scribes disputing with them. 15 When the whole crowd saw him, they were amazed and ran to greet him. 16 He asked them, “What are you arguing with them about?”
17 Someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you. He has a spirit that makes him unable to speak. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn’t.”
19 He replied to them, “You unbelieving generation, how long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to me.” 20 So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, it immediately threw the boy into convulsions. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 21 “How long has this been happening to him?” Jesus asked his father.
“From childhood,” he said. 22 “And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’? Everything is possible for the one who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the boy cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you: Come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 Then it came out, shrieking and throwing him into terrible convulsions. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.
28 After he had gone into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 And he told them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer.”
Mark 9:1-18 CSB
1 Then he said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power.”
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain by themselves to be alone. He was transfigured in front of them, 3 and his clothes became dazzling—extremely white as no launderer on earth could whiten them. 4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— 6 because he did not know what to say, since they were terrified.
7 A cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my beloved Son; listen to him!”
8 Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept this word to themselves, questioning what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 Then they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
12 “Elijah does come first and restores all things,” he replied. “Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

Micah 5:1-6 (CSB)
Now, daughter who is under attack, you slash yourself in grief; a siege is set against us! They are striking the judge of Israel on the cheek with a rod. Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; one will come from you to be ruler over Israel for me. His origin is from antiquity, from ancient times. Therefore, Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of the ruler’s brothers will return to the people of Israel. He will stand and shepherd them in the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD his God. They will live securely, for then his greatness will extend to the ends of the earth. He will be their peace. When Assyria invades our land, when it marches against our fortresses, we will raise against it seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men. They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with a drawn blade. So he will rescue us from Assyria when it invades our land, when it marches against our territory.

Ephesians 2:1-10 CSB
From Death to Life
2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient. 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. 8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— 9 not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Knowing Christ
3 In addition, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord. To write to you again about this is no trouble for me and is a safeguard for you.
2 Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those who mutilate the flesh. 3 For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship by the Spirit of God, boast in Christ Jesus, and do not put confidence in the flesh— 4 although I have reasons for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; regarding the law, a Pharisee; 6 regarding zeal, persecuting the church; regarding the righteousness that is in the law, blameless.
7 But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from God based on faith. 10 My goal is to know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death, 11 assuming that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.
Reaching Forward to God’s Goal 12 Not that I have already reached the goal or am already perfect, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus.

Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Hebrews 13:1-21
Final Exhortations
13 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it. 3 Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated,[a] as though you yourselves were suffering bodily.[b] 4 Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. 5 Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.[c] 6 Therefore, we may boldly say,
The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?[d]
7 Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 Don’t be led astray by various kinds of strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be established by grace and not by food regulations, since those who observe them have not benefited. 10 We have an altar from which those who worship at the tabernacle do not have a right to eat. 11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the most holy place by the high priest as a sin offering are burned outside the camp. 12 Therefore, Jesus also suffered outside the gate, so that he might sanctify[e] the people by his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace. 14 For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come. 15 Therefore, through him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. 17 Obey your leaders[f] and submit to them, since they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. 18 Pray for us, for we are convinced that we have a clear conscience, wanting to conduct ourselves honorably in everything. 19 And I urge you all the more to pray[g] that I may be restored to you very soon.
Benediction and Farewell
20 Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus—the great Shepherd of the sheep—through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21 equip[h] you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever.[i] Amen.

God achieves His Purposes

Who live by Faith
God does not expect us to submit our faith to him without reason, but the very limits of our reason make faith a necessity.
Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe
Hebrews 10:1-38
Trust the One behind the shadow.•The sacrifices were limited in scope.•The sacrifices were limited in value.•We underestimate the scope of our sin.•We underestimate the value of His blood.
Approach God with confident hope.•Go to God hungry.•Go to God often.•Go with friends.
Hebrews 9:1-28
Ephesians 1:7-10
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the
forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the
riches of his grace 8 that he richly poured out on us
with all wisdom and understanding. 9 He made
known to us the mystery of his will, according to his
good pleasure that he purposed in Christ 10 as a
plan for the right time — to bring everything
together in Christ, both things in heaven and things
on earth in him.”
Hebrews 1:5-9 (CSB)
5 For to which of the angels did he ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father,” or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son?” 6 Again, when he brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “And let all God’s angels worship him.” 7 And about the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, and his servants a fiery flame,” 8 but to the Son, “Your throne, God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of justice. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy beyond your companions.”
Hebrews 1:10-14 (CSB)
10 And: “In the beginning, Lord, you established the earth, and the heavens are the works of your hands; 11 they will perish, but you remain. They will all wear out like clothing; 12 you will roll them up like a cloak, and they will be changed like clothing. But you are the same, and your years will never end.” 13 Now to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool?” 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation?.”
The Son is a Superior Treasure
Hebrews 2:1-4 (CSB)
1 For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we will not drift away. 2 For if the message spoken through angels was legally binding and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment, 3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation had its beginning when it was spoken of by the Lord, and it was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 At the same time, God also testified by signs and wonders, various miracles, and distributions of gifts from the Holy Spirit according to his will.
So Don’t Stop Believing
Hebrews 2:5-9 (CSB)
5 For he has not subjected to angels the world to come that we are talking about. 6 But someone somewhere has testified: “What is man that you remember him, or the son of man that you care for him? 7 You made him lower than the angels for a short time; you crowned him with glory and honor 8 and subjected everything under his feet.” For in subjecting everything to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. As it is, we do not yet see everything subjected to him. 9 But we do see Jesus — made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God’s grace he might taste death for everyone — crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death.
Receive from the One Who Suffered
Hebrews 1:1-4 (CSB)
1 Long ago God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets at different times and in different ways. 2 In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 4 So he became superior to the angels, just as the name he inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Romans 12: 9-12
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil, cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lords people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Hebrews 13: 1-2
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
1 Peter 4: 8-9 “Above all love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling”
Gospel Hospitality: “Making space for someone you don’t have too, so that strangers might become friends, and friends (God willing) become family.
Ephesians 3:7-13 (CSB)
7 I was made a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace that was given to me by the working of his power. 8 This grace was given to me — the least of all the saints — to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of Christ, 9 and to shed light for all about the administration of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things. 10 This is so that God’s multi-faceted wisdom may now be made known through the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavens. 11 This is according to his eternal purpose accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 In him we have boldness and confident access through faith in him. 13 So, then, I ask you not to be discouraged over my afflictions on your behalf, for they are your glory.
The world needs a church that is eager to serve. (v. 7-9)
The world needs a church that is joyfully image-conscious. (v. 10-11)
The world needs a church that is confidently humble. (v. 12-13)
Psalm 31:19-24
You were created to live in awe of God, both His greatness and His goodness.
19 How great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you.
In the presence of everyone you have acted
for those who take refuge in you.
20 You hide them in the protection of your presence;
you conceal them in a shelter
from human schemes,
from quarrelsome tongues.
21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously shown his faithful love to me
in a city under siege.
22 In my alarm I said,
“I am cut off from your sight.”
But you heard the sound of my pleading
when I cried to you for help.
23 Love the Lord, all his faithful ones.
The Lord protects the loyal,
but fully repays the arrogant.
24 Be strong, and let your heart be courageous,
all you who put your hope in the Lord
Acts 2:42-47 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Mark 7:1-37
Jesus came to give new hearts to all of us born in sin and rebellion to God. As Christians, we can change, but only when our hearts are more satisfied with Jesus than our own efforts at self-improvement. The ones who understand this come running to Jesus for mercy.
Mark 6:30-56
Jesus is the Lord, our shepherd who feeds His family and the crowds with what we (they) need most--His presence and His word.
Mark 6:1-29
Jesus as God's chosen messenger attracts both those who follow and obey the message and those who reject the message and the messenger. As we reflect on how Jesus kept going, we can keep going in the face of rejection and tough times because we are joined to him.
Mark 4:35 - 5:43
Jesus is God with us. He came to restore everything that is broken--bodies, souls, and creation itself. Our response to Jesus power and compassion is to have total trust in Him, the only one who can fix our deepest problems.

None of us can carry the weight of times like this unless we come to Jesus for rest— exchange your load for his grace, follow his example of humility, and then work to share in His joy.
1 Peter 2:1-12
We who have been saved by grace, have hearts that yearn to see God made supreme (glorifed) in every space, starting in our own heart. Jesus is the good stuff, let go of the scraps and go for the best - Jesus. When you are satisfied in Him, your life will show much of Gods Glory.. If you are satisfied in Him, then the way that you walk through suffering and persecution will reflect the satisfaction that you have in Jesus.
Luke 24:44-48
"46 The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead the third day, 47 and repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.”
Jesus ascended to the throne, the Holy Spirit descended and we fill the earth with good news.
