You should hire a personal chef! ...but seriously!
What if the solution to your dinnertime stress isn't another meal kit or recipe app, but a hired professional to join your family and make your life easier?
...that's right, I said it!
Janice, founder of Tiny Spoon personal chef service, joins the conversation to challenge our assumptions about who personal chefs serve and how they can transform daily life. Janice's story led her to create a company that's redefining the personal chef industry not just for clients, but for chefs themselves.
The conversation peels back the curtain on what makes Tiny Spoon unique: Fortune 500-level benefits for chefs including healthcare, 401(k) matching, and profit-sharing in an industry notorious for burnout and poor work conditions.
For clients, the experience begins with a thoughtful consultation focused on understanding family rhythms and preferences, creating a deeply personalized service that goes far beyond meal preparation.
If you want to eat spicy but your kids don't, perfect! If you want chocolate peanut butter protein bites and to try Moroccan food for dinner, also perfect!
Whether you're a busy professional, overwhelmed parent, or someone who simply wants to delegate food preparation to focus on other priorities, this episode offers a fresh perspective on how we might rethink mealtime.

Becoming a mother transforms everything – your body, your relationships, your identity – but most parenting books barely scratch the surface of this seismic shift. Licensed therapist Rachel Elmore discovered this gap firsthand when she experienced postpartum depression after her first child's birth, despite her professional expertise.
When established treatment resources failed her, Rachel created what became the foundation for her groundbreaking book "A Mom is Born" – the first postpartum resource written from both clinical and Christian perspectives by someone who lived through it. This conversation explores the comprehensive New Mom Wellness Plan that has helped thousands of women navigate early motherhood with grace and support.
Rachel unpacks the practical wisdom behind creating a "postpartum pack" . Why accepting help isn't a burden but actually a gift to those who care, and how this vulnerability often leads to deeper, more meaningful relationships. Everything from handling meal trains and managing household responsibilities to navigating the significant hormonal shifts that occur even when weaning from breastfeeding.
For those supporting new mothers, Rachel offers insight into creating truly welcoming spaces that accommodate both mother and baby needs. Most importantly, Rachel shares the perspective every struggling mother needs: "Bad moms don't worry about being bad moms. Good moms do that." The very act of worrying about your parenting indicates you're already on the right track.
Whether you're a new parent, supporting someone who is, or preparing for future parenthood, this conversation provides the honest, compassionate guidance we all wish came standard with every baby shower invitation. I don't know about you, but when I hear about travel agents I quickly think about My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Chances are, you do too.
Whatever happened to travel agents? They're not just still around but what they offer is changing with the times and helping plan stress free vacations without spending a penny more than DIY bookings. Shocking right?
Stephani Izzo, a travel expert specializing in Sandals, Beaches and Disney, breaks down the modern travel agent experience, dispelling myths along the way. The biggest revelation? Using an agent typically costs exactly the same as booking yourself!
"When you have an issue, you don't have to call an 800 number and press two to talk to someone. You just call us," Stephani explains. Travel agents often know about flight delays before their clients do, allowing them to solve problems proactively. This level of service becomes invaluable because let's be real- we go on vacation to take a break for managing lists of details.
Ready to experience the difference? Stephani and Kayty are leading a girls' getaway to Sandals Royal Caribbean this September—a perfect opportunity to try the all-inclusive experience with a friendly group. Whether you join organized activities or simply relax poolside, this trip offers the perfect introduction to stress-free travel planning.

Picture a young girl planting grapevines at age ten, later rushing to shower and change so she could conduct wine tastings, occasionally interrupted by phone calls about escaped goats reaching the local Walgreens. This storybook childhood, filled with family meatball subs, gardening, and winemaking, formed the foundation for her multifaceted career.
Unexpected connections are a recurring theme throughout her life which led her through restaurant ownership, culinary achievements, and eventually to a devastating period during COVID when she lost her 18-year restaurant business through divorce.
The turning point? A chance conversation with a stranger on an airplane that connected her to Provocativo, where she now serves as executive winemaker, partnering with pop star Bebe Rexha to create organic sparkling wines that rival champagne at half the price.
Her story serves as a powerful reminder that resilience, openness to unexpected opportunities, and the courage to embrace multiple passions can transform even our hardest moments into stepping stones toward fulfilling work.

18 restaurants, feeding countless A-List celebrities and leading the plant based food scene sounds like the making of a riddle, but is the reality of our guests Mark. Over the years we've all heard the term plant based but what does it actually mean? Can it actually be good enough that it's highly sought after by foodies worldwide?
A health crisis transformed Mark's relationship with food forever. After receiving a rare blood cancer diagnosis, he immersed himself in nutritional research while undergoing treatment. What emerged was not just a personal healing journey but the foundation for culinary innovation that would reshape Australia's plant-based dining landscape.
Mark's approach is refreshingly approachable. Through his 18 restaurants across Melbourne, Sydney, and Byron Bay—he aspires to create vibrant spaces where food brings people together without dietary labels creating division.
His debut cookbook, "This Cookbook is a Huge Mistake" (named after a neon sign in one of his restaurants) emerged during Australia's lengthy COVID lockdowns. Quarantined alone in a hotel room for two weeks, Mark reflected on his culinary journey, documenting recipes and life lessons that had shaped his path. The result combines practical plant-based techniques with personal stories and his trademark pun-filled humor.
Beyond business success, Mark's most treasured accomplishment is the community he's built—including unexpected friendships with the Hemsworth family, who began as regular customers and became devoted supporters.
Through beautiful, thoughtful food that momentarily transports guests away from daily stress, Mark reminds us that gathering around a table is ultimately about connection, not just nutrition.
Try something from this cookbook. Your taste buds will thank you, and you might just find yourself reimagining what plant-based eating can be.

It seemed like over the past few weeks EVERYONE was talking about the new release, Pretty Delicious created by Food Dolls, and I knew I had to have them on the show to talk more about the book and the heart behind it!
Our conversation takes you behind the scenes with this dynamic sister duo who, surprisingly, didn't always love cooking. Growing up as first-generation Americans with Egyptian parents, they actually avoided helping in the kitchen whenever possible! Their journey to becoming well loved recipe developers and food stylists began when they had families of their own and started calling each other daily with the question: "What are you making for dinner tonight?"
They introduce listeners to game-changing ingredients like sumac (a lemony herb), za'atar (an earthy spice blend), and pomegranate molasses (a must try if you love balsamic glaze). When they describe tahini as "the Middle Eastern version of peanut butter" that you can spread on toast with honey, you'll immediately want to explore these flavors in your own kitchen.
Rather than pursuing Instagram perfection, we frame beautiful food as "carving out moments of joy" in everyday life, instead of striving for perfection.
Ready to bring Mediterranean magic to your table? Follow the Food Dolls @fooddolls on all platforms and grab their cookbook for 110 approachable recipes that will transform your everyday cooking with minimal effort and maximum flavor.

I'll be honest, for years my knowledge of Mexican cuisine consisted of Tortilla chips, salsa and If I really wanted to live on the edge, some queso, too! It wasn't until I went to Mexico my Senior year of high school that I experienced REAL authentic cuisine and the flavors that quickly showed me what I was missing! Today's guest Freddsters shares how his families recipes can give you these very flavors at home...with ease!
Freddsters worked as a private chef for MLB players before turning his culinary talents to social media during the pandemic. What began as casual posting evolved into a full-fledged career after landing his first brand partnership.
The conversation turns to his cookbook, which brilliantly bridges traditional Mexican recipes with incredible fusion dishes like Mexican chicken parmesan and street corn potato salad.
Discover the story behind Fredddsters' signature product, Salsa Macha (a Mexican-style chili crisp), and learn why this versatile condiment works splendidly on everything from traditional Mexican dishes to pasta, pizza, and fried chicken. Have you ever wished for more hours in the day while watching your to-do list grow endlessly? You're not alone, and the solution might surprise you.
The real issue isn't a lack of time—it's how we're managing the hours we already have. This revelation forms the foundation of my illuminating conversation with Kali Brigham, a time management expert whose journey began in the high-pressure environment of TV news production, where every second counted and deadlines weren't negotiable.
Kali introduces us to the concept of priority management rather than time management. Through practical strategies like conducting a time audit, we discover how most of us consistently underestimate, overestimate, or fail to estimate how long tasks actually take. This simple awareness can transform how we approach our schedules.
What struck me most was Kali's refreshing perspective that effective time management isn't about restriction—it's about freedom. "Time blocking is like an offensive line protecting the quarterback," she explains. "It's protecting your priorities, it's protecting your values." Rather than filling every minute with productivity, true time mastery means creating intentional space for what matters most. Each strategy is designed not to make you busier, but to help your schedule better reflect your values.
Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by commitments or struggling to make time for relationships and hospitality, this conversation offers hope that small changes can lead to significant shifts in how you experience time. Ready to transform your relationship with your schedule? Listen now, and discover how to make room for what truly matters.

Forget everything you thought you knew about salads. In this energizing conversation with Danielle of Healthy Girl Kitchen (@healthygirlkitchen), we unpack how salads can be transformed from sad side dishes into vibrant, satisfying meals that fuel your body and delight your taste buds.
Danielle shares her compelling journey from college student plagued with health issues to plant-based advocate with over 12 million followers across social media. The turning point? Discovering how dramatically her diet affected her energy, digestion, skin, and overall wellbeing. What began as experimentation in her dorm room—with nothing but a microwave and determination—evolved into a mission to help others experience similar transformations through accessible, delicious plant-centered meals.
We dive deep into the secrets of creating truly satisfying salads that won't leave you hungry an hour later. From incorporating protein-packed grains and legumes to the strategic addition of healthy fats and complex carbs, Danielle breaks down the formula for salads that serve as complete meals. You'll learn why your homemade dressings aren't emulsifying properly (hint: that coffee frother in your drawer has a second purpose!) and how hummus can transform into the creamiest dairy-free dressing base you've ever tasted.
The conversation explores highlights from Danielle's new cookbook "Life-Changing Salads," including warm salads perfect for winter months, grain-based options that travel well, and creative no-lettuce alternatives that won't wilt in your fridge. With 75 recipes designed for real people with busy lives, this cookbook stands apart with its accessibility, allergy-friendly options, and focus on ingredients you can actually find at regular grocery stores.
Whether you're a self-proclaimed "big salad friend" or someone who's been disappointed by too many bland, unsatisfying greens, this episode will revolutionize your approach to healthy eating. Because as Danielle proves, you don't have to choose between food that tastes amazing and food that makes you feel amazing—you can absolutely have both.

What happens when our self-worth gets entangled with pain? When dark seasons leave us questioning not just our value, but our very purpose? Erin Eddy Adkins knows this terrain intimately.
Erin takes us behind the curtain of her journey through divorce. She reveals how this dark season led her to choices made in response to trauma—choices that ultimately taught her the profound connection between how we value ourselves and how we allow others to treat us.
This understanding became the foundation for her clothing brand and community that bridges pain and shame toward self-worth awareness.
Beyond personal transformation, our conversation ventures into the entrepreneurial wilderness, where consistency battles with comparison and obedience doesn't always yield immediate results. Her refreshing perspective offers a counternarrative to hustle culture while acknowledging the very real struggles creative entrepreneurs face.
Whether you're navigating your own dark season, questioning your worth, or simply tired of performing your way to belonging, this episode offers gentle wisdom from someone who's walked through the fire and emerged with a message: "You're worthy to show up to the thing that makes you come alive." I don't like to admit it, but one of my first thoughts when we experienced Thai culture was "How do they eat so much white rice and stay so thin?" Whether or not we realize it we believe certain narratives about how we approach food, its role in overall health without ever really questioning the truth behind them. I know I did.
Kylie Sakaida, a nationally recognized well loved registered dietitian with over 6 million social media followers, comes on the show to bring a refreshing perspective to healthy eating that honors both nutritional science and her strong cultural background. Have you ever noticed that 'healthy cookbooks' don't include a lot of asian recipes? That changes HERE!
Kylie courageously shares her personal struggle with ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), a less common eating disorder characterized by extreme food avoidance. Her journey and recovery ultimately inspired her career path and compassionate approach to nutrition counseling.
The conversation challenges common Western diet misconceptions, particularly around cultural foods like rice and noodles. Drawing from her Japanese-Hawaiian background her take on nutrition is refreshing and welcome. I know you'll feel the same!
Kylie and I connect over similar parts of our eating disorder recovery, laugh over words that make me cringe and drool over recipes like her mason jar noodles that I can't get enough of.

What happens when a cookbook becomes more than recipes? When it meets you at 4:44 AM as you're cleaning bottles, staring out the window, wondering what happened to you? That's exactly what Dina Delicia Gonsar accomplishes with her new book "At The Kitchen Sink" - a refreshing blend of practical recipes and soul-nourishing devotionals.
Returning to Making Room, Dina takes us behind the scenes of her publishing journey, revealing how years of seemingly rejected proposals transformed into perfect divine timing. Those waiting seasons allowed her to incorporate profound personal experiences - including her battle with cancer and postpartum depression - creating devotionals with authentic depth rather than surface-level encouragement.
Unlike traditional cookbooks organized by meal type, Dina structures her book around the actual rhythms of family life. "Carpool Warriors" offers meals you can eat in the car between sports practices. "Mom Minute" provides quick personal nourishment when you haven't had a moment to yourself all day. Even "eating off your kid's plate" becomes an opportunity for creativity - like adding protein powder to abandoned cereal milk.
What resonates most powerfully is Dina's liberation from rigid mealtime rules. Gone are the days of insisting on elaborate multi-component dinners at precise times. Instead, she embraces flexibility: sometimes dinner happens at 4:30 before soccer practice, sometimes it's breakfast foods at night, sometimes it's dessert with dad when he gets home late. This adaptability doesn't diminish the importance of gathering; rather, it makes consistent family time possible amidst life's constantly shifting demands.
Through it all, Dina reframes everyday cooking as meaningful ministry rather than mundane labor. When nobody's applauding the person wiping Cheerios off the floor for the fifth time, her book stands as a reminder that this too is sacred work.

Feeling buried under the invisible weight of family life? You're not alone. Dr. Morgan Cutlip joins us for a raw, honest conversation about the unspoken reality of marriage after children.
This conversation tackles the infamous "mental load" – that seemingly endless running to-do list. Dr. Cutlip brilliantly breaks it down into three overlapping domains: physical tasks, mental planning, and emotional labor. The "triple threat" tasks requiring all three simultaneously explain why parenthood can feel so depleting. And yes, she confirms, this directly impacts desire and intimacy in ways other mental load discussions rarely address.
What sets this discussion apart is the practical hope it offers. Rather than falling into what Dr. Cutlip calls the "hardship Olympics" where partners compete over who has it worse, she offers tools to break cycles of resentment that trap many couples.
Dr. Cutlip's upcoming book "A Better Share" promises a refreshing approach that views couples as teammates against the impossible standards of modern parenting rather than opponents. For anyone feeling lost in the fog of early parenthood or wondering if their relationship struggles are normal – this conversation offers validation, practical tools, and most importantly, the assurance that you can find your way back to connection.

I have always considered myself to be culturally curious. Since I was younger there was always a draw to lean in and learn others stories. Identifying different traditions in the lives of those around me always struck me as an invitation to a whole new world, and deeper connection. As we dive more into parenthood, I have been thinking a lot recently about how I can raise Wesley to be just as curious, and intentional with getting to know the stories of those at our table.
A few years ago I heard Trillia Newbell speak at a Thinq Media Conference that we were attending, and I remember that she communicated with authority, invitation to action and that her words, though powerful, landed softly. I always felt messy talking about loneliness in adulthood.
This past week I was just curious (even though I knew the answer) how many adults would say they feel lonely and long for friendship. 85% of people polled, hundreds and hundreds of people said YEP, ME! I was not surprised...but surprised. It was hard to see those numbers, yet I was thankful for the honesty. It made me realize, it's time that we talk more about this.
Through this conversation we will be chatting through a conversation we've been having on our Instagram @gatherintentionalliving. What my loneliness in adulthood taught me about community and hospitality.
1: If you're lonely your not alone
2: We're all waiting for an invitation
3: People can be lonely in a crowd
4: It's possible you're not a great friend
5: Hospitality is a big part of the answer

Growing up, I wasn't exposed much to the world of antiquing or thrifting. I am your girl if you're looking for an incredible deal, but, knowing how to buy and repurpose previously loved pieces, not my strength. I quickly came to learn that to dive into this conversation I had to call in the experts.

Where do you learn about cooking? This question hit me lately. If we look back, we learned the ins and outs of hosting and navigating the kitchen from our families, and things have rapidly, and drastically, changed. So quickly we resort to social media, and while it's a great source of inspiration, it's not a good teacher. This conversation with author and recipe developer Kat Lieu paints the pictorially beautiful of the important role family plays in the way we view food.
If you are anything like me Asian cuisine is comfort food. Not talking about quick Chinese take out but rather freshly steamed dim sum, a hot bowl of pho, congee when you're feeling under the weather, there's something about the authentic flavors that make your tastebuds feel home. This conversation walks us through the viral trends taking social media by storm, along with the flavors and techniques that characterize a modern Asian kitchen.

Let me paint a picture for you... 5th Grade Kayty goes to her room to watch TV. What does she turn on? Not Nickelodeon, nope, Food Network. Surprised? That and Game Show Network.
From an early age my passion for food, culinary arts (and apparently game shows?) ran through my veins and through it I became Food Network Obsessed. Over the years I watched food trends, and the network, evolve and it's such an incredible transformation to look back on! If you are anything like me you have your favorite chefs, shows and of course recipes. Through it all, probably all wondering a bit about what they are like behind the scenes, too!
Todays' guest Jaymee Sire, is the host of Food Networks podcast, Food Network Obsessed. Her journey there was anything by linear, but a story of opportunity and pivots through a lay off and burn out. Transition. It's something that marks a lot of our stories, but especially that of today's guest Anh Lin. Moving and navigating short term relationships are both things that she has come to know quite well in her life...and that that in a very unique way led her to design. From being raised in Vietnam to navigating her own story of abuse, attachment, and lack she felt a unique invitation. One to make life beautiful.
Design has always been so interesting to me. It has the ability to draw you in or push you away without any words used at all. A series of choices, purchases, placement, all come together to create an experience...but how? Are people simply born with the knowledge? Does it have to do with income level, or status?
Today's guest, the creator behind Girl and the Word, shows us that in fact design is a series of choices, simple yet intentional, that can bring beauty into any home, any situation and any story. Join us for this conversation that walks through turning brokenness into beauty and how you can too!
Celebrating the release of her new book, Forever Home, you will not want to miss this new title and conversation!

I thought I was preparing for a conversation surrounding our favorite, nostalgic, shopping snack. We all know the one I'm talking about, the soft pretzels that you either ate coated in cinnamon sugar or dunked in that crave-worthy cheese sauce. As it ended up, I found us taking through the tear-jerking, heart wrenching, redemption story that is the life of Auntie Anne's founder, Anne Beiler.
Only a few times have I been surprised by an interview, and well- this one blew me away. Anne Beiler's life is marked by a childhood positively influenced by Amish culture culture, life changing heart break, strong faith, and seasons that caused her to question (and rebuild) everything.
If you, like me, love to dive into the story of how America's leading brands started- trust me, this one will absolutely amaze you.
Join us, as we learn about the life of Anne, the story behind the brand and celebrate her latest cookbook, Come to the Table.

Stress always falls by the wayside. It feels so much more important to focus on other areas of our health, life and relationships, am I right? Yet if we were to poll all of our listeners, I bet a vast majority of us would say that it's something we experience, daily. Stress seems to have changed in the past few years, along with the types of stressors and the way it shows up in our lives. It's time we learn about what it is that makes us burn out and the important resets to reduce the stress we all feel.
Dr. Aditi after years of working with patients made it her mission to focus on making stress something that is both tangible and treatable. With a focus on educating the general public on the crisis in an approachable way, her career and knowledge has lead many to feeling freedom and with skills to manage the stress they feel.
It's more common than we all would like to admit that we use stress as an 'excuse' for not spending time together, not creating, not learning, not gathering & so many other aspects to being together.
Join us in this profound, light hearted yet wisdom FILLED conversation that will leave you wanting to make this holiday season a stress-free one to remember!

As we get busier as a culture, spend less time home and with each other there are less opportunities to learn how to cook confidently.
We can probably all think of a recipe that did not end up the way we wished it would. Times when dinner stuck to the pan, the cookies ended up salty or even when we took one bite and threw the whole thing straight in the trash. Our guest today, Bri McKoy, can relate. She didn't grow up loving to cook, in fact she didn't see the point in even learning. However as she entered adulthood and realized that her 'eating out lifestyle' wasn't going to cut it, she took on the challenge, learned to love cooking and wants to teach you everything she learned.
From how to properly use salt, how the right sauce can elevate basic ingredients and go-to recipes for busy nights. This episode will get you inspired to get back into the kitchen and experiment with new confidence.

"Friendships just don't work for me"
Maybe you have found yourself saying this. One way or another we have all found ourselves in cycles of stress, anxiety and either learned to cope well... or not so well.
If you watched my recent TED talk, you may have heard the part at the very end, the part that surprises most people, where I share what I believe is the key to meaningful hospitality: The hard work of heart work'.
I've realized that in my own life when realitionships are strained, or when we find ourselves constantly lonely, that often it's a sign that we need to dive in and ask why. It's time that we own the responsibility.
To help me navigate this conversation, I welcomed on @ramsey personality and mental health expert John Delony. Talking through his recent research, own life experience and new book Building a Non-Anxious Life, I promise you that this conversation brings a new light to anxiety and lead you to a new freedom that you've been craving your life and relationships.

American-Italian food
How to enhance the quality and authenticity of Italian cooking in our own homes
The role that alcohol plays in preventing difficult conversation

Many of us likely haven't said these exact words outloud but, interior design has become our master. What do I mean by that? We allow our design skills, or lack of, decor, or lack of dictate how comfortable we are welcoming others in. Have you felt it? If you've been around for a while you'll know that design is a passion of mine, and I believe that there is a level of it that is necessary for hospitality. Somewhere along the lines though, the way we talk about it and approach it in our own spaces goes beyond passion. You could say that for many of us, it has become a dictator that gives us permission to move forward or on the contrary, holds us back.
Victoria Duerstock is a new friend of Gather, and in this episode talk about our own personal experiences with how design has the ability to create chaos or peace in our homes.
Whether you are a long time host or just approaching designing your space , this thought provoking conversation will get you evaluating your own approach design and give you peace-filled tips to move forward.

It seems as though as time goes on, the divide between the older and younger generation gets stronger. The older generation is becoming increasingly frustrated with the behavior and trends that the younger generation expresses and the younger generation feels disconnected and distant from the older generation. We hear comments all the time like " Millinials always do ________" or "Boomers always ________". I realized that it was time to stop and take some time to really understand who makes up each of the generations along with what they long for in community and at the table.
Through this powerful conversation with our friends Micah and Josiah Kennealy, we will touch on:
Truthfully no matter your age or background this conversation will leave you challenged and with a further depth of readiness and understanding. The conversation has the ability to truly change everything about the way we gather.
This season comes with it's own form of cozy- it's own sort of magic. As we enter into the heart of warm weather entertaining we are naturally spending more time outdoors...but...are our spaces ready? The goal of 'readiness' is never perfection, but instead confidence. Are you confident welcoming others into your space? This week we welcome on our friend, designer and CEO of designer doormat brand Porte and Hall, Stafford Meyer to talk all things Summer design. Her story is profound and the product she designed truly solves a problem so many of us have as we're creating our spaces. Through this conversion you will hear:
Whether you are a want-to-be designer looking to get a few more skills or a seasoned expert, this conversation with Stafford is a sweet one to celebrate and prepare you for the season!

Guess What? It's possible to have an honest conversation...and still keep a relationship. It's true! A few weeks back an industry friend reached out and said, " I know these two incredible people making a film and I think you'd love to talk to them!" Turns out, she was right! Our new friends Craig and Andrea were set out to create a film that talks about racial reconciliation in a new light. This has been something that we have become increasingly aware of as a culture but truthfully...the way these two have created space for this dialogue is new, and fresh. Through it they have modeled what it could look like for others conversations like it to happen as well. I left this interview inspired as a creative, hopeful for our tables and culture. I know you will too! You can expect to hear:
The three of us instantly connected and that lead to a really fun, really authentic conversation that you will NOT want to miss!

I am known for a few things, and one of them being my incredible love for all things chocolate. As I got older and dove into the worlds of coffee and wine, I realized that similarly chocolate has a culture and world of it's own. It didn't take long for me to realize that the mass produced chocolate that I would feast on as a kid no longer fit the way my foodie palate was expanding. This led me to learn more about what makes chocolate...good chocolate. While truthfully I am very much at the beginning of my learning Nicole Patel, Master Chocolatier, teaches me in this episode all about one of my true loves in a profound and decadent new way!
Through this conversation you will hear:
How a career in Engineering led Nicole to launch her chocolate company
Does your chocolate crack or bend? What are the main differences between what we see on store shelves like 'smores chocolate' and chocolate thats produced in small batches? How to tell the difference and why it matters
The proper way to store and serve your chocolate and how it enhances the taste
Delysia is known for their unique flavors and stunning presentation! Nicole will share how she crafts and creates all of it...without tasting a piece!
Chocolate lovers unite for a conversation that will get your excited to dig your teeth into some of the best chocolate you've ever had AND know how to serve it, gift it and more in the future!

I was the kid who when everyone else was watching cartoons... I was watching cooking shows. 30 Minute Meals was a regular show and Rachael Ray was a household name. As I got older it felt like in many ways Rachael Ray and I grew up together, you may feel the same way. She expanded on to new shows, business endeavors product lines and I... very readily followed along! There was always something about her, a unique factor, that not only captured my attention, but America's attention. Through it all her tips, tricks, recipes and catchy phrases stuck with me.
Recently I was introduced to Andrew "Kappy" Kaplan, who currently serves as the VP of Culinary Operations for Rachael Ray brands. As incredible as his job is, his journey that got him there is even more dynamic! From a love of food to planning some of the country's leading food festivals, to 'coincidently' meeting Rachael Ray, his story is one that will inspire any dreamer, entrepreneur and foodie!
Through this conversation we will talk through:
I have always been inspired by peoples stories, behind the scenes and stories of life lived around the table. This one will surely leave you awestruck and more invested in the work of Rachael Ray Brands than before.

There are two types of people, those who live and breathe boxed wine, and those who are skeptical. Truthfully I was always a skeptic, believing that box wine was 'cheap wine' and boy was I wrong! Recently I learned about a new brand called Bebly that solves a problem that I certainly can identify with and truthfully...I think you can too. Owner, Ally, took a glance at her tablescape a few years back and saw a box wine with paper towels under it to catch any spilling. She searched high and low to find a solution to elevate the way she served it. With no luck she designed a system that makes serving box wine simple, chic, practical and sustainable!
Through this conversation Ally educated me on the truth about box wine, along with the bright future ahead of it that includes something for all of us to learn! (I am officially converted!)
We also dove into the truth about the 'sand shortage' around the world and how it's effecting the cost of bottled wine that we know and love.
How to simplify our gatherings in our planning so that we can enjoy the process and time with our guests!
...I am always going to advocate for things that make your table effortlessly beautiful, and that enhances your guests experience- which leads me to sing Bebly's praises to you!
This conversation is for the wino (or truthfully even cold brew lover!), new host, seasoned host, design enthusiast and those looking for fresh ideas for the table! Light hearted, insightful and for sure a new Gather favorite- this conversation is for you!

Do you take time to celebrate everyday? Truthfully, I don't! I find myself falling in this 1 or 100, black or white type mentality and I end up missing so many reasons to stop, pause, and celebrate every day! Today's conversation gave me more than a fresh perspective on every calibrations though, it opened my eyes to a conversation much deeper. As I read through the book Everyday Grand by today's guest, Jocelyn Delk Adams, I came to pick up on stories that talked about the connection of food, culture and race. In our country right now while there are conversations happening about diversity and race, very few are connected to food...which meant I HAD to explore it.
If you like food, and like to smile, this conversation is for YOU (So basically...everyone!) Our guest today not only has an incredibly accomplished career, but more than that she is relatable, so kind and someone I know we'd all be instant friends with!

Hands up if you would call yourself a perfectionist! Sometime along the way, we were taught that hospitality needs to be perfect, have you heard this messaging? It's safe to say that across life we are taught that it's safer to hold on tightly and don't let go. Or on the flip side, if things aren't going quite the way you hoped and dreamed that we can control the outcome. One way or another, we all likely could say that we would wonder what it's like to get a taste of freedom from this. To be able to live life and host with surrender. Through my conversation with Podcaster and Author Tara Sun, we talk through some of the relatable and insightful themes in her newest book Surrender Your Story. You can expect to hear conversation topics like:
The Myth of control, Is control really safer?
What we learn when things come crashing down
What chronic illness taught Tara about control
How to build the muscle of surrender
How to break patterns of control for the perfectionists
& More!

Have you ever felt like you and your spouse are on different pages when it comes to hosting? We were married not even a year and I packed our social calendars FULL. Looking back we had plans in our house nearly every night and my party loving, people loving self was ecstatic. It didn't take long for a conversation to happen between Colby and I about expectations. It didn't even cross my mind that maybe, just maybe, someone may need to balance hospitality with quiet time. We learned quickly what this balance looked like for us, and truthfully we ended up healthier because of it!
This type of dynamic is SO normal, do you experience it too? Through years of listening to you and hearing your stories so often this tension or sorts, can keep either marriages divided or doors closed. With neither being ideal, it was time to bring the conversation to the table!
Do you feel like the communication leading up to having people over causes more harm then good? Do you wish that you and your husband or wife shared the responsibilities before a bit better? Do you want to know the truth behind the way we say what we say and passive aggressive statements?
I knew my conversation with Dr. Glenn and Phyllis would be good, but I couldn't have been prepared for just how profound and transformational it actually was! Whether you are married, about to be married to waiting on your soul mate- this conversation will change you!

This episode is quite possibly the most powerful, eyeopening and heart wrenching that I have hosted yet. As I welcome on our new friends, I found that I quickly realized how little I know about incarceration, the justice system and what families endure going through it. Through this conversation my hope is to give us all a new layer of education, information and hopefully in turn compassion and a call to action as community.
You have have noticed that there were a few weeks off from the show AND if you listen you will hear big news as to why we took an unexpected break in the show!
Through this episode we discussed what Rob & Fox believed about the justice system before their own personal experience and the truths they faced on the other side of them.
Their profound story of getting married, opening a business and the despair that led to taking money by force . All of which led to their arrest and the beginning of their experience with the justice system.
"It is a horrible place when you as an individual feel like you have run out of options". How we can all relate to and have compassion for the human reality of despair.
How community came alongside them in the midst of incarceration and solo parenting. How we as community can come alongside families in similar situations as well.
The truth behind the way Hollywood depicts prison time. The reality of incarceration and why it's important to care.
How a story of despair can be rewritten to a story of purpose and hope
This powerful story makes room for all of us to grow in understanding on a difficult topic, yet, one that is so necessary for us to be aware of as part of community. Be sure to follow them, watch their documentary and purchase their newly released book!

There's WHAT in my muffins? Pairing vegetables and comfort food is a new concept to many of us. Conversations about vegetables in our mac and cheese and even pureed in our muffins may make many of us cringe but, what if I told you it CAN be delicious! We so often focus on kids who don't eat vegetables but what about adults and teens who could use some help with this too? Gone are the days of simply boiling or steaming vegetables, vegetables now make the most delicious main dishes AND secret ingredients in our favorite comfort foods. As a kid and teenager who ate a very simple diet, Nikki Dinki found herself avoiding fruits and vegetables most of her life, until she moved to New York as an adult. Her journey to learning to love vegetables started her on a unique culinary adventure that uses them in innovative and decadent ways that can enhance all of our meal prep! Through this conversation with our new Gather friends you will hear more about:
-What it's like as an adult learning to love vegetables
-When you find what vegetables you like, how to eat them in new and creative ways
-how to get more veggies when eating your favorite comfort foods
& so much more!

There never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything we care about. Somehow the days feel shorter, our lists feel longer and we find it difficult to make room for creativity and time together. Our culture constantly praises the hurry, but rarely talks about the cost. It's time we sit back and take a look at another way of approaching our time and priorities. In this conversation we invited on Crystal Paine to walk through how to juggle a lot, enjoy your like and accomplish what matters most!
Whether you find yourself at square one looking to make lifestyle changes or consider yourself an expert time organizer this conversation will inspire you. This year let's be intentional with our time so we can make more time for community, relationships and what matters most!

“And let me offer lesson number one about America: All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins." This quote is famously said by Ronald Regan, and truthfully I believe it applies to cultures around the world. There's something deeply profound about this and in many ways deeply intriguing. We watch movies, TV shows and see families sitting together, often leading us to glamorizing what could be. The table has the ability to develop emotional intelligence, heal and connect unlike any other place in culture. For something so important, it deserves more frequent attention and evaluation.
I brought our friends Ben and Corley Spell back on to talk about this very topic, and get back to the basics:
Life is full, we're not short on commitments, but what if we changed the narrative? What if we stopped and saw that not prioritizing time at the table comes with a cost? This episode will leave you inspired and ready to take action to get back to the table.

With many of you knowing pieces of our story, we wanted to start the year looking back and reflecting on the road that led us here, with the main people who have been a part of the process. To start, we are welcoming Gather's real VIP Alia Merrill who has worked with us on brand strategy, web design, graphic design (and keeping me from quitting) for nearly 4 years! Over the past couple months questions have come in like 'how did that opportunity happen OR how did you get that guest to come on the show?' Truthfully, this is largely due to the work Alia has done and guided me through on our branding over these years. We have become really close friends through this process, and welcome you into one of our laugh-filled conversations today talking about:
Whether you are a long time member of the Gather community or are in the business space, this conversation will inspire creativity and make you feel like you're sitting around a good charcuterie with two besties!

I'm sure we can all remember when we were first introduced to Youtube. Many of us waited for new releases, while others of us took the plunge to start creating. Remi Cruz found herself cooking most of her life, while also being inspired by her moms incredible cooking. When high school came around she took her passion, started producing cooking videos for the platform and the rest is history. Making cooking crave worthy, and light hearted, her videos grew in popularity and what once was a hobby soon became a career. Remi and I laughed and talked our way through:

Raise your hand if you look at the world today and think to yourself, "surely this is the worst time in history." You are certainly not alone and the reality is- there are in fact some very difficult things happening in our culture and around the world. This worldview has caused many of us to lose hope, and see the world through a lens far from optimistic. We invited on our friend Zach Windahl, the author of See the Good to talk through what actually is happening in the world around us and help us to change the narrative. Through this conversation you will hear:
Whether you are a person of faith, consider yourself a pessimist or optimist...This conversation is one that applies to humanity as a whole! My hope is that you listen to the episode in entirety for the sake of finding renewed grace, gratitude and optimism in your everyday!

During the holidays we so often are surrounded by people but....are we connecting to them? Hot chocolate, table scapes filled with food, what if we realized that with a few simple changes we can leave the holidays not just feeling full BUT also, connected? So quickly we can find ourselves tossed in the shuffle of shallow conversation, 'hows the weather' small talk, and in some cases asking yourself...'wait, are they being nosey or sincere?'. I invited on our friend Kobe Cambpell to walk us through some eye opening shifts we can take for relationships sake (see the holiday spin I put on that? Ok good!)

We are full swing in the holiday season. With it, it doesn't take long for us to start to feel a bit exhausted and lost in the hustle and bustle. If you're anything like me, you are craving a way to make the season a bit more refreshing and filled with more celebration. To be honest, I'm not one to turn to quickly turn to nature. However, recently I learned about the work of Hannah Anderson, and the way she uses nature as a teacher was incredibly unique and very intriguing to me. As I learned more and got my hands on her new book I realized that as we approach the advent and holiday season, there truly is so much to learn from the way 'heaven and nature sing'. This conversation is one that will invite you into a new rhythm for the season.
Rewriting the way we approach hope, faith, joy and peace.
"The secret to being happy this season is, you don't have to be"
What nature has to teach us about winter and seasons
How to get out of the bustle and develop traditions of reflection
As you prepare to host, pour out, give, open your door and fill your table- our hope is that this conversation will be one that invites you to be still and make intentional changes. No matter what faith you practice and what holiday you are preparing to celebrate, this conversation is for you!

My stomach sank...
You should talk about that on a podcast episode my friend said as we were talking on my front porch* "So many people would relate to that", she continued.
I ran on over to my stories and quickly typed:
"Would you be interested in a conversation on navigating social anxiety, depression and panic attacks as a host/guest?" FULLY anticipating that I would delete the story seconds later... HUNDREDS of votes came in for YES!
My follow up question sealed the deal for me:
"Who do you want this information for- You, a community member or both." If you couldn't guess already BOTH was the winner by a long shot. So many of us are facing these very things and the problem is, we're not talking about them. The problem is we don't have the tools to deal, there's so much shame behind it and in turn, more often then not we end up isolated or lonely. Let's change that. Let's make room.
Through this episode I will be talking to both the guest and host that deals with anxiety, depression and panic. Also, to the host who doesn't face these things but wants to learn how to embrace guests who do, well.
Join me for a vulnerable, and eye opening conversation on a topic that should be talked about more. A topic that we are making room for here, especially as we prepare for the holiday season.
How’s your holiday budget looking? That question likely just made your heart sink. As we get closer to the holidays, we often are so conflicted with the excitement of decking the halls and the shock of how our bank accounts look after. Without realizing it, we find ourselves in comparison circles feeling like we can only host that open house party if it includes x, y, and z.
Before we know it, we end up either not hosting at all or find ourselves in a pinch financially on the other end. Gift giving also has its way of presenting added pressure, leading many to go into debt that creates added stress throughout the year. What would it look like if we approached the holiday season with a plan so that we can stay on track with our goals while still enjoying the beauty, generosity, and celebration of the season? I asked financial expert Rachel Cruze, from Ramsey Solutions, to join me for this conversation and truly there’s no one better to lead it. Through this episode you can expect to hear:
To be honest, many of us approach the holidays with the same financial concern, so we're here to make room to talk about it!

Were you here when @sharonsaysso shared about us? It was the start of amazing things here at Gather! The week she shared, we released an episode called “10 Ways to Become an Everyday Host” and it quickly became our most downloaded episode to date. As years have gone by, we wanted to bring the conversation back to the surface because it is more important now than ever!
In culture, we are often told narratives that gathering is for a select few, with a certain income, certain skill set, and steady friend group. What if that wasn’t true? What if the key to gathering is something entirely different? Through my own rewriting, and listening to many of you, I have curated a list of unconventional ways to be an everyday host. Not just any host, but an intentional one that cultivates meaningful connection.
In this episode we will discuss these 10 key topics:
1: Seeing a need & willingness to go first
2: Willingness to fail
3: Commitment to growth: personally & practically
4: Becoming the designated diffuser & difficult conversation manager
5: Prioritizing ambiance
6: Creating food intentionally
7: Shifting from untouchable to intentional hospitality
8: Creating Systems & Stations
9: Auditing your kitchen
10: Working towards leading with vulnerability and authenticity
See this list as a way to identify where you need to grow, what you do well, and where you need to head next! From there, we would love to support you through blog posts, guides, and workshops found at www.gatherintentionalliving.com

I very quickly find myself fully invested in reality tv shows; anyone else? I had heard about the new show, Claim to Fame, and as soon as I started watching, I knew it wasn’t going to be any different. In fact, as I was watching, I saw one of the girls on the show and thought, “I could be friends with her!” So I sent her a message, invited her onto the podcast and what came next surprised me most! She is on her own journey to building confidence in hospitality. (Also, we definitely became instant friends!) I have been wanting to host reverse interviews for a while, and this seemed like the perfect place to start! Brittany came on this episode fully prepared to ask a few questions that many of you will be able to relate to for a unique new format on the show.
What you may not know is that Brittany’s claim to fame is that she is daughter to football legend, Brett Favre. Over the years, a few of you have chimed in to ask how to interact with celebrities in public AND truthfully, I didn’t have much of my own experience to draw from. Through this conversation, she talks into:

We don't usually give much thought to the meat we buy. It ends up on our shopping list, and before we know it we're serving it at our table. Over the past few years however, there have been various labels and words added to our packages from grass fed to no hormones, but what do they mean? We quickly start to believe the certain words mean that the meat is better for our health or is better quality..but is that true? We wanted to get to the bottom of this and learn more about the truth behind the package with our friends from Good Ranchers Ben & Corley spell. In this episode your eyes will be open to:

Family dinners are something we see highlighted across movies and TV shows. If we’re honest though, it’s something we are experiencing less and less in our own lives. Filled with laughs, connection and rich culture it’s something we all crave more of. Recently as I scoured the new show library for Magnolia Network I came across Andrew Zimmern’s newest show Family Dinner. “Andrew visits families across America to explore how the cultural, regional, and historical facets of who we are inform what and how we eat, and all the ways food brings people together.” Everything about it left me wanting to know more. From his dynamic experiences on Bizzare Foods to the way food helped him overcome addiction this conversation will leave you as inspired as it did me! As you listen you will hear more about:
“Unconnected people in our family groups are far more prone to suffer from mental health issues, alchocohlim, suicide. Staying connected and providing a forum for meeting our kids where they're at is of vital importance.” If you don’t currently have regular extended family dinners, know that you are not alone. If you are looking to take one step towards changing that, then you are in the right place!

Minimalism is a word that has swept the design world by storm. With a spotlight on Scandinavian style and decluttering becoming the highlight of some of culture’s favorite new tv shows, a few questions remain. What are the main differences between organization and decluttering, AND how do I make that a reality in my own home? After living in an RV as newlyweds, Courtney Florey and her husband learned first-hand the importance of decluttering and the freedom that comes with it! Now living in their own home, Courtney has taken her experience in small spaces and larger homes alike to educate and inspire the everyday host to declutter their own spaces. Through this conversation you will hear:
I believe that our homes should be an oasis and a place that you are confident welcoming others into! The more your space feels true to you, the more you will find rest and peace there. Creating a home can be overwhelming and it can be even harder working against systems that have been in place for years. Courtney and I are here today to give you just the encouragement you need that it’s possible and starts with a yes!

Amanda Held Opelt found herself not experiencing grief until much later in life. Feeling unprepared she quickly found herself facing a series of significant losses from miscarriages to the loss of her sister at a young age. This process led her a place of vulnerability where she learned the important role that others play in the journey to healing along with what was needed for her to work towards a new normal. Through her studies across cultures grief rituals played a big role in finding hope.
In our lives usually one of two things is true, we either don't face the reality of grief until late in life, or we face it right from the start. Either way grief is one of life's realities that we all face, ready or not. I have found that in culture we talk about grief very little and with that, we expect ourselves and others have just as little time to process it. You may notice that this topic is one I'm particularly passionate about expanding on this show. As I have done my own grief work I have seen just how needed more knowledge is on the topic to be better equip for this very common part of our lives.
Amanda will walk us through the things to say/not say during grief, along with how to use grief rituals to heal. This powerful book is the perfect resource no matter where you find yourself on the grief journey.

It was the summer after my senior year of high school. I had just graduated and I was on my way to Chiquila, Mexico. We landed, for my first time in Mexico, and drove to a remote village where everything was new to me. There was something so foreign, yet so inviting, and that combination made me dive into every experience that approached me over the next few weeks. One thing that stood out to me in such a profound way was the way the culture was food, and the food was culture. As we walked the streets, there were open air dining areas where the community gathered. Grandmas in the village were hand crafting their own tortillas with a method I could have never imagined. The salsa and vegetables were prepared in a way that revealed flavors and cooking techniques that I would have never known existed. Since coming back to the east coast, I had yet to find an option on the shelf or in the restaurants that brought me back there…until I had Somos.
Through learning more about this brand and the co-founders who created it, I knew that I had so much more to learn and that it was a conversation I knew would expand all of our knowledge on the way we approach Mexican Cuisine and culture. Through this conversation with Miguel Leal you will hear:
Miguel said through this conversation, “Once you fall in love with the food, you fall in love with the culture. That’s what we want to do at Somos. I want to bring two neighboring cultures together, one taco at a time.” My hope is that this conversation does exactly that!

We have heard it time and time again, Love thy neighbor. But...what does that mean in our lives, now? Recently I learned about the new book "Glad You're Here" Written by Walker Hayes and his neighbor and dear friend, Craig Allen Cooper. Their story is one that goes against how so many of us view neighbors in the most refreshing, culture-shifting way.
As the world grows increasingly distant, I wanted to have this conversation because those in my very own community have had the greatest impact on my life. Neighbors have celebrated with me, mourned with me, in many senses were the community that raised me, and the thought of loosing this profound connection saddens me. Yet, it doesn't have to be this way! This profound story of authenticity, generosity and connection is one we know will give you a glimpse of what's possible!
Through this conversation Craig will walk us through:
- How his early neighborhood relationships impacted him
-How he came to meet the Hayes Family through natural 'friend chemistry'
- What it looks like to know your neighbors needs and respond
-The importance of time in a relationship
-How to embrace all of life's seasons in relationship
We know that you will crave more of this story! To learn more about Craig & Walker's relationship be sure to pick up their book here! Also, because I know it will move you as much as it did me, Listen to Walker's song written about today's guest titled Craig.

I’ll start here. There have been seasons where I have royally messed up on friendship. Chances are you are either nodding your head as someone who is in the same position or have unfortunately been on the other side of a friendship gone wrong. While I have been grateful for the increasing amount of relationship resources in culture, there still is so much to discover. If there’s one thing I learned is that relationships require being a constant learner. They require learning from past experiences, constant self-reflection and ultimately intentionality.
Recently I reconnected with a high school friend, Rob Guinta. We were at a retreat together and somehow we stumbled upon a topic he recently taught on, ‘ 4 Ways to Fail at Friendship.’ Knowing him and his depth of study, I knew that this was a topic for the show! Cultivating meaningful relationships definitely includes time around the table, and definitely includes atmosphere, but most importantly it includes the heart of the person on the other side.
Through his conversation we will walk through:
So many of us accept the misconception that, friendships in adulthood can’t be vibrant. Instead, I’m here to say not only can they be really rich, but they are critical to your health and life! My hope is this conversation gives you a new lens on friendships, refines you approaches them and leads to deeper connection to those around you!

'What should I serve guests with dietary restrictions'
Over the past few months, this has without a question been our most commonly asked question!
Let's be honest, it can be intimidating! After years of eating, cooking and catering gluten and dairy free myself, I have learned quite a bit along the way. Through this Date with Kayt we will talk through:
-How the way we talk about and serve special diet foods can divide a table...and how to make sure that doesn't happen.
-How to use the recipes you already love to serve special diet guests
-Checking labels and being cautious about hidden gluten and dairy in common products
-4 gluten and dairy free menu options with flavor packed and hearty meals that everyone can eat, and everyone will enjoy!
Curious about where to find certain ingredients or could you use help with an upcoming menu? Email us at Ciao@Gatherintentionalliving.com and we'll include some of the questions in the next episode!
Kids, food, and hospitality have become a trio that leaves both parents and hosts with angst and uncertainty. While we all dream of community dinners, smooth meals at guest homes, and kids that happily eat ALL of everything they are served, we know that is rarely the reality. As with parenting culture in general, people are quick to throw advice around, yet few are actually experts on helping you see change and bringing peace back to meal time! For years I have been following Jennifer, from Kids Eat in Color. She has a way of walking parents and caretakers through the battlefield of picky eaters through her own experience and research. With resources on everything from approaching new foods to managing mealtime meltdowns, she has created a well-loved, impactful platform with the goal of helping you and your child approach the table with more confidence. Through this rich conversation with you in mind, you will hear Jennifer discuss:
Jennifer shares so beautifully in this episode about her own experiences with hospitality as a mom of young children, as well as the stages of working with her own picky eaters. Coming from a place of both personal and professional experience, this episode will leave you feeling like you are understood, not alone, and have actionable techniques to start using today!

Wine causes both delight and a lot of head scratching when it comes to hospitality. Without a doubt, wine is considered a significant part of hospitality and food culture around the world. We all can think of a time where we have sipped the perfect glass, and stopped to savor the perfect pairing with the meal being enjoyed with it. It isn’t always this way, however. So many of us find ourselves saying “I’ll drink what they’re having,” or heading to the store and leaving wondering if the bottle we picked up is the best option for what we are serving. How would it feel to make the shift from perplexity to the confidence of an everyday sommelier? Dana Beninati, a renowned sommelier, joins us for a conversation to demystify the world of drinking and pairing with confidence. Some of the things you can look forward to hearing her talk about are:
This conversation is filled with joie de vivre! We are sure that this will leave you with an extra pip in your step as you prepare your menu for your next event. While becoming a sommelier is an admirable goal, my ultimate hope is that you leave our conversation with Dana feeling more equipped to be confident and properly serve wine than when you started. Cheers to becoming an everyday sommelier!

Cozy: We seek it and we crave it. If we’re honest with ourselves we feel that a certain level of cozy is only achievable by a select few. We can all think of a home we’ve been in, or one we’ve dreamed over through our social screen, that feels nothing shy of inviting. Each detail intentionally placed, each color complimenting the next, all woven together in a way that says, “You’re welcome here.” If I've learned one thing about design, it’s that one’s home design often makes or breaks the confidence they hold as they welcome others in. Liz Marie Galvan is known and loved through her intentional, warm and inviting design. With her cozy cottage farmhouse style, she has inspired hosts to use design and identify their own style to make their homes cozy. Through this conversation we will walk through:
Whether you are a design enthusiast, or someone in need of a pep talk this episode has you in mind! Do you want to listen to the Ted Talk that Liz & I gushed about? Watch it here! Be sure to get your copy of Liz’s newest book, as a guide to create cozy all year round!
“Wait, but what am I supposed to wear?” Have you ever received an invitation to an event and wondered that very question? We’ve all seen the movie plots where someone underdresses for a very formal occasion AND more times than not, that very plot finds its way into our own lives. So much of social anxiety starts with the invitation. When too little information is given or information is misunderstood, it leaves us wondering what is expected of us.
In this episode, we invited Outfit Formulas creator, Alison Lumbatis, to help us define six types of dress codes and give you clear, attainable formulas for each one!
Through all we do, our hope is to make gatherings filled with less anxiety and more confidence getting to the table. This conversation will leave you feeling inspired, understood, and ready to take on your next invitation dress code with ease.Interested in joining, Closet Staples Casual Capsule Wardrobe Builder? There is something so enticing about BBQ. Around the world this cooking technique is used and well-loved. With the summer upon us, cookouts are on our minds and yet so many of us only fall in the “I can cook a decent burger” category of BBQ skill level. All of us can say that there's a level of BBQ or grilling that we would love to improve in to give us an extra kick of confidence. Pit Master Pat Martin is truly a master of his craft and is leading the way in open pit BBQ through his many locations of Martin's BBQ and Hugh Baby’s BBQ & Burger Shop. Through his new book, Life of Fire, he creates a tell-all of what he’s learned, all he knows, and how you too can master your own “over fire” eats this summer! With Father’s Day making its way here, not only do we think this cookbook would make the perfect gift, but we know that this conversation will get you itching to say, “Come to our house to celebrate. I'll cook!” In this conversation you will hear:
If you are from the south, run…don’t walk, to the nearest location of his restaurant! If not, be sure to pick up a copy of his book here!

This past week a question came into our inbox:
" How do I host someone at my house that is 'creepy' with my kids"
...The question also included red flags that I believe many of you are facing and likely wondering how to deal with at your table.
Through this conversation I will bring to the table what I believe will be the start of a series on this show. While I am an advocate for open door hospitality, it is critical to know the warning signs. My hope through this is not that you build unnecessary walls, but rather feel well prepared and informed on how to keep your table one of celebrating and health. You can expect to hear:
In this conversation I will be straight with you, because truthfully, this is for the safety of your home and your children.
I hope that through this conversation you feel that this is a safe space to have this conversation and that you don't feel panicked but instead, prepared. As we work to prepare you for everyday hospitality, we know that this is a small, but critical, part of the whole.
We’ve all been mesmerized by cookie decorating videos at one time or another. Something about them gives us a sense of wonder and a confidence that, “If they can do it…surely I can too!” We walk down the aisles of the grocery store buying far too many supplies, none of which we know how to use properly. We head home only to find out that we, in fact, should have looked up just a few more tutorials before getting started. If you find yourself nodding along to this experience, you are surely not alone!
What many don’t know is that my very first business endeavor was sugar cookie decorating. While it was short lived, this season soon became a crash course into what worked, what didn’t, and what everyone attempting to decorate needed to know! That time in my life was marked by spending far too much money on supplies that weren’t necessary, wasting loads of time and money on recipes that didn’t work, and scouring the internet for tutorials…which is where I found today’s guest. SweetAmbs took the internet by storm as she developed viral cookie decorating videos. Quickly after following her, I learned about a decorating course out of state. All by myself, I drove out of state to this workshop that finally gave me clarity and a solid grasp on the art!
Amber Spiegel will walk us through:
& more! While I know not all of you listening are looking to become the next viral cookie decorating star, I do know that decorating is an area so many of us aspire to have skills in and feel as though we fall short! Through this conversation, my hope is that this piques your interest, and gives you just the inspiration you need to keep creating and develop new found confidence as you do!

Each month I lead one episode to dive deeper into hospitality, community, relationship and intentional living. This episode is one that was brewing in my heart all month, and finally I was able to put it to words!
It is very likely that you have had both of these experiences:
- Leaving an event feeling more disconnected than when you walked in &
- Leaving an interaction feeling deeply seen and craving more time together
We live in a time where we are more connected than ever, yet, lonelier than ever. What this tells me is that it's time to say, 'something needs to change.' Through various observations in our hospitality culture, my own community and experiences I have realized that there are 6 things we can do to make people feel more...seen.
While the epidemic of loneliness is deeply rooted, these small changes and steps can make a lasting ripple effect.
Can you imagine what that would look like, if we went first to make people feel seen? I can, because I have been through the receiving end, and it's powerful! Let's make the decision today to make these few small changes, and go first.
Many of us daydream of leaving our home country to pursue our dreams, yet not many of us find ourselves making that a reality. Amelie Kang was one of the few who took the leap, leaving her home in China to move to America and explore a career in culinary arts. After years of being a student to a Chinese teacher with international cooking exposure and her grandmother's culinary influence, her curiosity was heightened. Upon arriving in America, she soon graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and hopped on the fast track to open her own restaurant. Through monumental success and a few bumps along the way, Amelie kept one thing at the forefront of all she does, keeping customer experience first. Through her dining, Mala Project aspires to bring bold, authentic flavors of China to the American table with a form of dining new to many of us called dry pot. This dynamic conversation will serve up:
Amelie and I found ourselves sharing so many of the same values when it comes to the table! We are overjoyed to bring you such an inspiring story of courage and community!
If I could, I would be on the Mediterranean coast with salty air and surrounded by all the olives, mint, hummus, and local flavors one could imagine at any given time! My whole life I have savored (and craved) Middle Eastern flavors and am always looking for new dishes to try and more ways to incorporate them into my everyday life. Like many cuisines, I find that we generally have a limited scope of what’s available. Often sticking to hummus and a traditional greek salad, there are so many dishes awaiting the everyday chef (that will leave their taste buds never the same!) I recently came to know and love Eden Grinshpan, Host of the Cooking Channel Show, Eden Eats, and author of the new cookbook, Eating Out Loud. Born to a family of rich culture and a love of food, her approach to cooking is one that will add fresh inspiration and spice to every kitchen! Eden will guide us through with humor and decadence:
Eden is a ray of sunshine and has a unique and refreshing view of food culture that I know will leave you running to the kitchen!

Self-care is one of the loudest messages our culture is screaming at us right now. With products, ideas, food, and marketing all created with this end goal in mind, is it possible this may be leading us to an unexpected end result? I have been following Primally Pure, a non-toxic skincare line, for years! A few weeks ago, I heard the owner, Bethany McDaniel, share a unique spin on this topic and it caught my attention. She discussed the difference between self-care, self-love, and self-health along with the cautions and truths behind each of them. Helping to reframe the way we approach these topics in culture, Bethany focuses on:
I have always loved the one liner, “I don’t know what I don’t know.” I am so grateful for the way Bethany spoke into this and challenged me to shift my focus to caring for myself in a way that holds long term benefits. So many of us are looking for some relief from the hustle. My hope is that this conversation brings you encouragement and hope that with a few simple changes, that is not far away.
Try some of the products we referenced in this episode from Primally Pure here with code GATHER for 15% off!
Figlia is a word that captivated me at first glance. It means “daughter” in Italian, but the Figlia Aperitivo team has expanded it to mean, “A tribute to the power of family- the given and the chosen. A community built for honest conversations. To offer a seat at the table and lend an ear. To serve the good stuff and talk about the hard stuff. To laugh, cry, and think together.” I am always drawn to brands that create products with belonging and intentionality in mind. Lily Geiger did exactly that. After losing her dad to alcoholism, she set out to create an elevated, non-alcoholic aperitivo in a way that could not only be enjoyed by all, but more importantly was not triggering to those avoiding alcohol. Through this conversation you will hear:
Truthfully, Lily and I connected over our stories. As a child of an alcoholic parent as well, I too am passionate about having this hard conversation. Even though Lily and I both drink a glass of wine on occasion, we are very aware that this is an area of hospitality many need to avoid for the sake of their recovery and we can help. I hope that this conversation gives you insight into ways we can come alongside guests in tasteful and intentional ways, while also making safe spaces for difficult conversations!
Be sure to grab your own bottle of Figlia for your next gathering here!
Renovations and home building always seem a whole lot more glamorous when we’re watching them onTV. However, when it comes time to embark on a project like that ourselves, that’s an entirely different story. From excitement and big dreams, to surprises and messes, renovations and custom builds can seem like a daunting undertaking, but …it doesn’t have to. We invited Kirsten Erickson from Alma Homes onto the show to talk through how to survive your renovation process and make sure the end result reflects your family well! Here are some of the highlights you can look forward to:
Alma homes is actively working to create resources, classes, and more to give you confidence and peace of mind as you approach these projects in your own space. This conversation is unlike any other you’ve heard on this topic, I'm sure of it! One of our main heartbeats at Gather is that your home is an extension of YOU and one you are confident welcoming others into. Kirsten gives just the inspiration you need to take steps to do just that!

Three years ago Shauna Niequist, her husband and two sons, all
lifelong Midwesterners, moved from the Chicago suburbs to an 825-square foot apartment in Manhattan. What started as a family mantra, “I guess I haven’t learned that yet,” whenever city life surprised them, the phrase gave Shauna room to exhale and the freedom to relearn how life could be. In her new book, Niequist scoops up readers and gently tells them the same things she told her sons, “oh darlings, you’re not dumb – you’re new. We’re all new. And we’re all not failing.”
In I GUESS I HAVEN’T LEARNED THAT YET: Discovering New Ways of
Living When the Old Ways Stop Working, Niequist reflects on creating a quieter,
deeper life, her evolving faith, gathering people around the table and the magic of
saying “I don’t know.” She beautifully shares with readers how she learned to
keep going, living lightly and find healing in the face of major life transitions,
chronic health issues and a global pandemic.
“This is not a to-do list,” writes Niequist. “This is not a prescription for success or
a road map to spiritual perfection. This is a love letter, a handful of treasures, a
lifeline, a hand reaching out in the darkness and offering hope and respite...This
is the book I wish someone had written for me when I was in a season of near-
constant untethering and unbelonging, wandering and fumbling, and ultimately
discovering a million beautiful surprises after a couple very dark years. This is
everything I know– wild and messy, accompaniments for the hardest stretches of
the journey.”

Have you ever found yourself in an ‘in-between’ season? A season of waiting, of wondering, of pain, or uncertainty? There is no question that this journey of moving back to America AND navigating starting a business has sparked ALL those and more for us. A few weeks ago, a new book flooded my instagram feed. It felt like everyone was posting about the launch of “What If It’s Wonderful?” by Nicole Zasowski. When asked, she graciously accepted our offer to come on the show. It wasn’t until I started to dive into this powerful, truth-filled book, that I realized how deeply personal this concept is for me. With that, I know it will be for you too as Nicole shows us:
As her subtitle so eloquently puts it, we know that this conversation will lead you to ‘release your fears, choose joy, and find the courage to celebrate’...with compassion, empathy, and actionable steps. You are not alone; the courage to celebrate starts here…together.

I grew up watching two things religiously: Game shows and Cooking Shows. Something about them inspired me, sparked curiosity and the dreams of what could be. As I got older, my love for these shows grew as I continued to follow new shows, new show concepts and new hosts. Recently, I began following Gail Simmons, chef, cookbook author, Tv personality and Judge on Bravo's Top Chef. While I was intrigued to hear more about her career, Gail shares not only about what she is currently known for, but the profound process that led her here. Stacey Morgan prepared, as much as she could, to send her husband into space. Alongside members of the NASA community, her kids, and the world, her husband took off, leaving her with the sheer reality that this could be the most celebratory season of her life, or the most tragic. Through this striking reality, she was left to question, ‘Where does my hope rest?’ As weeks went by, she faced parts of life that many of us aren’t forced to face in a lifetime. As she wrestled through community, fear, hope, and friendship, she came upon some truths that we will dive into through our awe-inspiring conversation today:

Williams Sonoma is one of those brands that I would consider a pillar in the hospitality industry. They are known for their quality and their cutting edge design, but most of all I know them for the products that have filled my wish list holiday after holiday, year after year. Our weeknight meal rotation can get pretty dull, quickly! In the hustle and hurry, so often our table gets filled with food that is far from what we’d call…delicious. Quickly reaching for processed foods, and resorting to new recipes that we’re not quite sure how we feel about, many of us are calling out with an SOS. We all crave the skill to be able to serve food that we are proud to put in front of our guests, along with techniques that we feel confident in. As much as our weeks scream to us, “It’s time to give up that dream,” this episode is here to tell you a different story! Teri, the creator behind No Crumbs Left, sets out to give her readers unique flavor and spice combinations to add to their weekly line up! Beyond that, she is known by her mantra, “Don’t be afraid to fail, it’s just food!” as she teaches chefs to trust their cooking instincts.

There is so much power in our life stories. Certainly we all know someone who can bring an entire table to stitches, or tears, with the stories they share. However, so often we lead ourselves to believe that our stories are the exception. We lead ourselves to believe that our stories don't need to be told.
If you spend anytime looking at food on Instagram (or TikTok) you have most definitely come across the platform of the Korean Vegan. Before I ever came to be captivated by her incredible food photography and recipes, I was captivated by her storytelling.
Captivated by the way she shared her journey with healing her relationship with food, stories of her family's history, stories of her culture, stories of love and heartbreak. She taught me something, that stories build trust, stories deepen roots, stories make all of our lives and connections to one another...richer.
In this conversation, Joanne and I will be talking about story telling, How to become a storyteller and the incredible new book she just released that brings it all together.

So many of us, without even realizing it, are doing the adult equivalent of walking across the cafeteria with our head down. I have come to learn that the way we communicate and act with the people around us either flashes an "I'm available and interested in friendship" signal Or "steer clear-not interested" siren.
Through my own journey to friendship and deeper connection I came to learn that some of my own patterns gave the wrong signal and perpetuated loneliness and disconnection. Here are 5 Ways to Grow & Show Interest in Friendships/Relationships:
1: Be specific in Making Plans:
The next time you say "let's get together", take out your calendar and make a date! I find that often we are being too courteous of the other person, which in turn leaves us both waiting for an invitation. Give yourself permission to show interest by making a plan AND trusting that the other person will set a boundary and be honest if they need to.
2: Remember & Acknowledge Milestones:
When you are with someone you are trying to grow a relationship with and you hear them reference an important date...take out your calendar, write it down and set an alert! When you see the alert, send flowers, send a text, show up- whatever it looks like! By celebrating when friends celebrate, and mourning when they mourn shows commitment.
3: Be Mindful of Communication Response Times:
This can be touchy, hear me out! Life is full, some seasons we are more responsive than others. Truthfully, I've been more delayed than I'd like these days. However we need to keep in mind...not responding- sends messages. Think of it like a dating relationship. If you thought you had a good first date and you don't hear back for a week, you assume they aren't interested (even, if maybe that's not true). Try to use phrases like "Hey, I see your message it's a busy week but I'll answer soon" to keep things clear and growing
4: Being Authentic & Vulnerable:
What do we all ask when we see each other, "Hey, how's it going." We have been conditioned to answer it with non-genuine answers. My challenge for us is to slowly and steadily allow ourselves to be more honest with those around us. To share more about what is really happening with life, work, family etc. Sometimes vulnerability can land flat. However what I'm finding is that over time authenticity invites more authenticity. When this isn't present in relationships, they stay at the surface. However, when we allow the roots to go deeper, the relationship grows stronger.
5: GO FIRST:
We live in a culture where we are all waiting to be asked. There is a value shift in life where kids are praised for going up to 'random people' and making friends, while adults are shamed for that very thing. If you are picking up on friend chemistry, likely you're spot on! Keep friendships growing by allowing yourself to respond to these very inner inklings. Be the one who extends the invitation, sends the text and shows up.
The community that we long for and the community that we need...starts with us! Join us for this rich conversion on this weeks Date with Kayt.
One of our most commonly asked questions is, "What do I cook for large groups?' With questions from meal planning to logistics and everything in between this is an area of uncertainly for many hosts. When I was thinking of who to bring on to add wisdom to this conversation, Tieghan Gerard was the first to come to mind!

A few weeks ago a question came into our Instagram Account:
"Asking people to take off their shoes: Big deal or no?"
As we posted our quick response, it opened up a big dialogue which revealed big feelings about the topic. What we found is that there are two sides to the 'shoes in the house' conversation and neither is right or wrong! Yet, it's worth diving into!
For many reasons a host may want guests to remove their shoes. In the same way, for many reasons a guest may feel more comfortable leaving their shoes on. In this conversation we will be talking through understanding why/how each stance holds on to their value and how to better understand the other side.
While it seemed a bit...silly to cover an episode entirely focused on shoes, these conversations are quite possibly amongst the most valuable! So often in hospitality offenses come through the small details and have the possibility of being a wedge that severs a potential relationship.
I don't want shoes to create relational divide on my watch. SO, Let's talk about it to be better prepared for this situation and develop a deeper understanding for both sides in the process!

Are you into Jig Saw Puzzles? Truthfully, me neither! However, they've been on my mind a lot lately! I have really be struck by puzzles that are left with just one corner finished. Why? Because they leave you with only a small glimpse into the beauty of the whole picture that can only be discovered when it's put together piece by piece.
Much like our own lives, and our world views, when we limit ourselves to one set of beliefs, traditions or cultural norms, we aren't able to fully grasp the beauty of what is available, the whole picture. We limit ourself to just one corner.
I have been incredibly passionate about learning how other cultures approach the table, and with that the many ways we can learn from them! To help me better understand Thai Table culture I welcomed on Hong Thaimee, Entrepreneur, NYC Thai Restaurant Owner & a new Gather Friend!

You see, so often at our tables, we want to put a cherry on top of grief. We want to change the topic and move on to something that covers the sting. However, the most precious gift we can give someone at our table, is the gift of making room. Our friend Peace Amadi will be walking us through what it looks like to walk through this very topic with us today:
We will be working through:
What is grief?
What triggers grief and what to expect from those in our life experiencing grief?
Why it's important to not overlook or brush past grief?
How to let people be there for you as you go through grief
How to support those in our community practically
Our tables have the incredible opportunity to allow our guests to be seen, heal and carry the weight that grief can often bring. Join us as we dive into a hospitality topic that helps us move one step closer to cultivating meaningful connection through our tables.

A few weeks ago, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming Jacques Pepin on the podcast to talk about his life and legacy. Today we are turning the spotlight to further discuss the work he so passionately and generously pursues through the Jacques Pepin Foundation.
To have this conversation we welcomed on the JPF executive director, and Jacques Son-in-law, Rollie Wesen. Through this episode you will learn about the ways community kitchens are being used to empower and give opportunity to those with high barriers of entry into society. You will see how powerful collaboration is and what is being done coast to coast through the non-profits that the JPF supports.
Here at Gather, we are so passionate about this work because about 5 years ago, Gather started as a life skill training program based in my home kitchen half way across the world in Chiang Mai Thailand. We were working to assist at-risk youth re-enter society through baking and mentorship in the kitchen. While we have moved back stateside and evolved from this specific model, we are committed through all we do to bring awareness to the power of the kitchen, its ability to heal, open doors of opportunity & bring communities together.
Through all we do, our goal is is to support this work being done around the world through education and finances to see that these programs have all they need to continue with strength! Join us in the conversation with Rollie Wesen, and if you are compelled, join us also in giving towards their nationwide, community-shifting work.

For the longtime chef and the novice in the kitchen alike, this rich dialogue will be one you want to pull up a seat for!
Here is a little more about our guest and friend, Jacques Pepin:
Born in 1935 in Bourg-en-Bresse, France, near Lyon, Pépin always found the kitchen to be a place of both comfort and excitement. He helped in his parents’ restaurant, Le Pélican, and at age 13, began an apprenticeship at the Grand Hôtel de L’Europe. He subsequently worked in Paris, ultimately serving as personal chef to three French heads of state, including Charles de Gaulle. After moving to the United States in 1959, Pépin first worked at Le Pavillon, an historic French restaurant in New York City. From 1960 to 1970, he was director of research and new development for Howard Johnson’s and developed recipes for the restaurant chain.
At the same time, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Columbia University. Pépin is a former columnist for The New York Times and his articles have appeared in countless food magazines, particularly Food & Wine and author of 30 cookbooks, including the renowned classic La Technique, his biography The Apprentice and most recently A Grandfather’s Lessons.
In 2017, he was honored with a feature film documentary of his life in the American Masters series: The Art of the Craft. He is the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from five American universities and was awarded France’s highest civilian honor, La Légion d’Honneur, in 2004, as well as the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in 1997 and the Mérite Agricole in 1992. He has received 16 James Beard Foundation Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. In 2015, he received the American Public Television’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the inaugural Julia Child Award, which was presented to him at The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. A longtime close friend of Julia Child, he starred with her in a PBS series called Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home, which won both an Emmy Award and a James Beard Foundation Award in 2001. For the past 30 years, Pépin has taught in the Culinary Arts Program at Boston University and, since 1989, he has served as dean of special programs at the International Culinary Center in New York City. He has called Connecticut home since 1975.
When someone in our community becomes pregnant, has a baby and journeys through postpartum there is no question that life changes. In our culture we see that these seasons, while they are very very exciting, often lead to a disconnect from community, baby blues and postpartum depression. I welcomed my friend Allegra Gast, lactation consultant and birth doula, on the episode today to talk through how we can better host and support those in our communities in these seasons.
The reality is that if we desire to stay in, and grow relationships with friends who are in these seasons, it requires an adjustment from us too! Here is what you can expect to hear in this relatable and actionable conversation!
How to make evolve with the relationship by:
Picking new activities
Communicating &
Understanding the changes that could be happening physically, hormonally and emotionally
How to host a guest during pregnancy:
Considering scents, food aversions and morning sickness
Walking with both parents through postpartum:
How to offer help,
Showing commitment to the relationship through supporting friends in some of the less glamorous way.
Knowing your friends love languages and supporting them through it.
& Other practical ways that help them celebrate and adjust.
I know that you will be encouraged that even though culture says this journey can be isolating, we can keep a strong sense of community it just requires a few intentional changes.
What is the best way you received support during pregnancy/ postpartum? What is your favorite way to support new families?

This week, Sharon Says So shared about us on her account and with that, we welcomed thousands of you to our community! This table just got a whole lot bigger! One of the first things we asked you as you joined our community was, "What you want to know about us OR hospitality." Countless responses came in surrounding the topic of where to event start with hospitality and the topic of developing confidence.
We decided to put the questions together to create a guide that we believe is a starting place for not just becoming a host, but becoming one that hosts gatherings that welcome, create belonging and connection. These 10 guidelines can act as building blocks as you work towards reframing what hospitality looks like in our culture and your home!
Here are the 10 Topics we will work through:
1: Seeing a need & willingness to go first
2: Willingness to fail
3: Commitment to growth: Personally & practically
4: Becoming the designated diffuser & difficult conversation manager
5: Prioritizing ambiance
6: Creating food intentionally
7: Shifting from Untouchable to intentional hospitality
8: Creating Systems & Stations
9: Auditing your kitchen
10: Working towards leading with vulnerability and authenticity

Did you know that your words set your guests heart and gaze for the event?
It's easy to feel hospitality insecurity, culture tells us that we shouldn't be confident unless...However our most common way to cope, is to cover our insecurities up with phrases and apologies that do everything except...cover them up! When we welcome our guests with words like:
"I didn't have time to clean today excuse the mess..."
"I know you cook better but..."
"The kids are crazy right now, but ignore them"
...its almost as if a spotlight is highlighting them and leads to an event that filled with anything except celebration. In this episode I will walk you through ways to rephrase our most common phrases to lead your guests to focus on celebration and time well spent together.
We as hosts have the power to bring celebration or bring the whole event up in flames....I think I know what one i'd choose, how about you?

After Kayty attended a recent comedy show with John Crist & Mike Goodwin she realized a few things 1. How refreshingly clean the show was 2. That they both referenced the connection between how the deepest pain often births the best comedy. After laughing her way through the entire show she knew she needed to dive deeper into this conversation. In this episode Kayty interviews Mike Goodwin from Bowtie Comedy for a riveting conversation about the use comedy and when to avoid it at the table. Diving into how Mike found himself using comedy to cope as a child and how many of us do too we discuss how to nurture this at our table. Whether you are the one keeping everyone belly laughing, or the host of everyday gatherings, this conversation will open your eyes, encourage you to loosen up a bit and better embrace those who take a seat at your table.
More About Mike:
Mike Goodwin is a refreshingly funny comedian, speaker, and leader. His signature bowtie is a nod to his expectation-defying brand of comedy that leaves a variety of audiences - from corporate events to swanky galas - laughing hysterically and completely inspired, without a foul or vulgar word spoken.
Whether it’s a comedy act for a church event or keynote address at a conference, Mike uses his ability to merge leadership and laughter, to help meet his goal of leaving places and people better than he found them. He’s appeared on Lifetime, BET, Dry Bar Comedy, Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), Daystar, USA the Word Network and Circle TV and been featured on SiriusXM and nationally syndicated radio shows. Mike has shared stages with Dr. David Jeremiah, Tim Hawkins, John Crist and Michael Jr., and participated in the USO Europe Comedy Tour. When not on stage, you can find him sharpening his skills as a writer for digital media outlets and platforms.

Over the course of my life I have been a part of many gatherings that I didn’t host, but attended as a guest. Some that have made me feel particularly welcome, others that, probably without knowing so, have pushed us away. I’ve become an observer of these gatherings and noted what it was that caused that effect. While of course, a series of factors go into this, the loudest and most impactful element of them all is AMBIENCE.
As we became more familiar with ambience and how vastly different it changes from one gathering to the next, we realized that while of course the company you're with holds significance, ambience is the first impression and the “nest” of any gathering. It either fosters a gathering of enjoyment & comfort, or distance and hesitancy. We often connect ambience to elite gatherings, high social status, and unattainable skills. However, what it really comes down to is three simple categories that can be easily incorporated into all of our lives.
Today we will be breaking down ambience into three categories: 1. Lighting 2. Music 3. Space.
Learning how these all weave together to orchestrate the tone of a gathering, we know that you will not only feel capable of upholding these tasks, but you will be empowered and refreshed to learn how simple it actually is.
Somewhere in culture we learned that it is unacceptable to ask or allow our guests to bring food to our gatherings. While we're not telling you to bring a potato salad to a formal gala, we will be sharing how to navigate this in everyday hospitality. In today's episode we break down 4 main reasons why you should let your guests contribute food and how to ask or organize that as well.
1: You Can't Do it All, Financially & Time
2. It makes people feel more comfortable.
3. It better supports those with dietary needs and families with young kids
4. It celebrates various cultures at our tables and acts as a conversation piece.
Towards the end of the episode, we will teach you how to map out your dinner so when your guests ask what to bring, you don't end up with 50 people bringing brownies. We've all been there!
Join us as we tackle one of hospitalities biggest misconceptions and look at it in a new light.
Most of us have been there, a part of a community but still wishing we had friends or felt more connected. Colby and Kayty moved to their current community 2 years ago and upon coming back they felt a longing for connection. In this episode Kayty will talk about what it looked like to create "group blind friend dates" with people she was meeting in community and how those relationships turned into her best friendships!
In this episode, you will get actionable steps on:
1: How to identify "friend attraction" and who to extend an invite to
2: How to extend the invite. What to say/not say
3: How to plan an event that balances recreation & vulnerability
4: Follow through: How to continue to grow the relationships
Our hope through this episode is that you feel ready to extend the invite and confident that community is just an invitation away!
Mangia! Have you ever been to an Italians house for dinner? Chances are, if you did, you have some vivid memories! It's likely that you have memories of the food they served and even they way the gathering is centered in the kitchen.
A few months ago I connected with Dina on Instagram. We connected quickly on our love of hospitality and Italian culture. Today Dina and I will be sharing glimpses into what the table looked like in our Italian families, along with the role that food played. Also you will find us focusing on the areas we hope to cultivate in our own homes, along with those we hope to change. Join us in this conversation about how one culture approaches hospitality, and what we can learn from it!

We've all seen a movie when someone comes home for the holidays and is asked, "So, Where's your boyfriend". As viewers, it always makes us cringe. Why? Because we know that the approach wasn't exactly the greatest & that there's a bigger story at play!
Kat Harris, author and relationship coach, walks us through how to navigate the topic of dating, relationship status and singleness at the table. The richest part of this whole episode for me is how she brings to light the fact that our celebrations are typically focused on couples & families. With this, she helps us see how we can as friends, and families, can better celebrate the whole personal through ALL of life's milestones.
Looking to re-enter the dating scene? Kat walks us through the best online apps to use as well as how to "go first' in a practical way all while managing expectations. The approach she gives I know will empower you and encourage you as you take the step towards romantic relationships!
Whether you are single, or currently in a relationship, this conversation is one that will make you laugh, will open your eyes and leave you inspired.
Just wanted to start off by making sure you know that this conversation is NOT to convince you to be sober. In fact, I drink wine! So what is this conversation? One that will equip YOU with conversation and drinks to support those are your table that are living alcohol free.
If we're honest, most of our culture revolves around alcohol. While I really enjoy a glass of wine, I am fully aware that alcohol is an area of pain for many at our table. Whether its someone who avoids alcohol because they are trying to overcome an addiction, or they avoid it because of being raised with an alcoholic, it's important that we rewrite the narrative.
Jenna Dillulio is joining me today to discuss her journey to sobriety and ways host can embrace and make those on the same journey comfortable at their table.

I have the honor of introducing you to my new friends from Cotier Brand, Amber & Marx Succes. Since childhood they both had a yearning for, and deep understanding of the value of hospitality. Through their relationship they realized that culture needed more tools to help lead to meaningful gatherings. Together they have launched a brand with products to help give hosts confidence, and to promote intentional dialogue with beauty and ease.
In addition to diving into the heartbeat of their brand we also discuss how inter-racial hospitality is the key to healing, unity and moving forward as a nation! I am so thankful for their vulnerability, truth, grace and space for navigating this conversation. As always here at Making Room, we want to make space for difficult topics. This conversation is not exempt from that. We hope that through this incredible dialogue you feel empowered and hold deeper understanding.
Please be sure to follow them @cotierbrand and buy your very own Convokins through Amazon!
We live in a time where political affiliation can divide a room as quickly as it can gather it. As critical in nature as it is to all of our cultures, it can be just as intrinsically destructive. I knew that I couldn't tackle this conversation on my own so I invited on my new friend and long time politician, Mike McDonald, to help navigate the dialogue.
Our goal in this conversation is not to sway, we didn't come with any political agendas, nor did we directly talk about any pressing topics. Our goal in this time is to give you the tools and perspectives needed to help navigate heated dialogue and land in respectful, community focused, understanding, & honoring space. Ultimately, our goal is to keep tables, families, friends, and communities unified even in the face of conflicting values.
Politics, in and of itself, is a necessary community. We support, engage in, and stand behind it. However, what would it look like if we learned how to respect, dialogue, and love through all the values (political or not) that present themselves at our table?
The topic of politics is important, but not more than our communities. Let's together engage in the dialogue of what it looks like to uphold and honor both.

Grab your seat, this is a conversation you will not want to miss!
We live in a society where we have developed absolute "right" and "wrong" when it comes to behavior, everyday expectations, societal norms, and ....hospitality.
We are so quickly angered, offended, and put up walls to the belief of "common sense”. However, as I've jumped into thinking about this over the past few years, I’m beginning to wonder...is common sense even real? Is it really a standard that we can hold people to? Is it possible that we are so different that common sense is actually causing an unnecessary divide? Is it possible that the concept of common sense is faulted all together?
Join me, as today you have me all to yourself, and we dive into the first of many conversations about the concept of common sense when it comes to relationships and hospitality.
We've all felt it- or at least I know I have! You look at social media and feel that the design in your home doesn't measure up. Or, that you have to follow a particular design in order to open your doors. Our conversation today is one of invitation and is 100% attainable.
It would be easy to say that design doesn't matter at all. However, what I would say is that it may be one of THE most important elements of hospitality. While design is often seen as exclusive our goal is to bridge this divide. I hope that todays episode inspires and empowers you to make the little, attainable changes that reflect YOU and essentially make both you and your guests feel welcome in your space!
Brandi refers to Hipster Cocktail Party as her favorite Spotify playlist for company, im going to go listen to it, I hope you are too!
Have you ever felt like you are not comfortable enough with your space to open your doors? Are you overwhelmed by the thought of where to start or how to start? Everyone has something to learn from his powerful conversation! Make sure to head over to Instagram to follow this incredible company sweeping our country and our new friend in the center of it all! I'm sure many of you know me, but just as sure that many of you don't! I'm overjoyed to meet you! This conversation takes all of the twists and turns and shows how life is a series of stepping stones that leads you exactly where you are called to be! This episode is unlike the rest but consider it our first conversation at the table. Were so glad you are here!
