The Weapons @theweapons are a collective, forged in the spirit of using music as a weapon of peace. @JahYu the Korean word for âfreedomâ, this is an artist whose music is rooted in the notion of freedom, freedom of sound, freedom of expression, freedom from mind and freedom of the soul. JahYu uses his creative freedom to connect directly with his ancestors and create music that somehow transports the listener through time and space. Oriental flute and string melodies slide effortlessly amongst powerful roots-based dubstep, creating a sound that is unique and full of flavour. This enigmatic Korean-German producer blends both sides of his heritage, the digital steppers that emerged from Europe in the 1990âs alongside the traditional oriental music of his motherâs homeland, Korea, augmented by a deeper exploration of contemporary bass music. Having put himself on the map with releases on Soukahâs Blacksoil Records, Bristolâs Transient Audio as well as on Australian imprint Modern Hypnosis, itâs now time for the album release, weâve all been waiting for. No computer involved as impeccable arrangements and analogue reverberations unfold. Live and direct in the original Dub mixing fashion, the Augsburg-based artist uniquely transports the sonic characteristics of Rhythm & Sound into the present time. Subtle vinyl crackles gently introducing meditative beats, âRun Dubâ sets the pace. Keen listeners find themselves embedded in lively echoes and reverbs, left to bask in smooth, sonic contemplation. Engineered to soothe the soul, timeless foundation sound. Intensified groove meets low-frequency pressure in âAmir Dubâ among haunting melodica fragments. â(Yes!) Badnessâ unsheathes its off-kilter swing, vocal and foley samples musing in the distance - further showcasing Another Channelâs technical prowess. Heavy chord stabs and delicate overdrive counterpoint the immense scope of conjured space in âAel Na Dubâ, concluding a beautiful A-Side. Lush chords lure us to the flip-side - âSolidâ kicks off with a staccato bass-line in the midst of lavish white noise surges and minimal drums. Rooted in endless feedback trails, steadily kept in check. Previously teased, the mighty âEthiopian Dubâ steps through in full glory, carried by militant drum motion and forceful low-end. On a more spacious excursion, âUranusâ takes a brightly lit stroll through the analogue Dub universe, led on by Another Channelâs signature groove propulsion. Pointing back towards A-Side, prolific Dub proponent Babe Roots presents his musical qualities in a monumental remix of âRunâ.

He quickly mastered the guitar and turned into being a dub producer thanks to his important influencers ranging from the likes of Scientist to Luke Vibert and Madlib to Billie Holiday. Having started dub programming back in â07, Evert Cristoffâs dedication to music goes both way back and beyond in time. In his first year of producing, the young musician earned a stripe by the signing of his inaugural 12â release on the acclaimed Dubbed Out, which was blessed by a Radikal Guru remix on the flip. After this positive vibration, Bukkha has been handed the enlightening opportunity to remix the respected producers Roommate, Radikal Guru, Tuff & Powa, Danny Scrilla and Jojo Mac to name a few. Through this, he has tightly represented the Gulf Coast dub / bass scene until 2015 â and now started a new chapter by residing in the sun of Spain. With bits and pieces released on Moonshine and DubStuy, including collaborations with Madplate Sound, Junior Dread, DTR & Blind Prophet, Bukkha is ready to take his interpretation of dub across the Seven Seas!

In the end Radikal Guruâs Empire Dub remix competition went well over our expectations. Amount of remixes that came in was staggering! Decision was really hard to make, we had to take into account many different aspects like ingenuity, arrangment, sound quality and general vibe that we felt after listening to each of the tunes. Finally we have chosen two remixes that are featured on this 12ââ record alongside the original mix. Big up to all the producers involved!

Moonshine Recordings continues to coordinate dub into all sorts of directions with its steady throughput of vinyl releases. This time around, itâs the Spanish-based Bukkha to uplift all followers with two up-tempo rollers that take part in his crucial âRuling Soundâ EP. His name has been all over the news inside bass culture lately, as the American released highly noted physical music on critical labels like Killa Sound and Dub-Stuy Records. Heâs been working his way to the top and the only thing the Moonshine Recordings imprint can do is support his efforts in pushing dub music to the masses at any given moment of the day.
On top of this wicked news, Portlandâs dub producer and engineer âSkelliSkelâ joins this session to frame the taste of the âPDX Mandemâ collective from back home. His love for complex rhythms and heavy bass lines fuel his adventure inside dub culture, something youâll hear when listening to âMS028â. And with the familiar voice from don Junior Dread, who jumps in on the hype by illuminating the dub with carefully selected freedom of speech, itâs the collaboration that speaks for itself. To top it all, TMSV is added to the release roster, a producer whose been dealing some serious damage with his inventive music repertoire. Whether itâs music on the darker tip, or the more laidback sound, both Bukkha and TMSV know how to uplift and please their followers with bass-heavy, eardrums-teasing bass music. After King Yoofâs dedicated dub album and us welcoming the sound of the Italian stallions Madplate Sound to another heavy twelve-inch, we follow up on releasing music from the Londoners Squarewave and Sukh Knight. Throughout the past years, Squarewavehas been releasing music on the biggest labels in dub and dubstepculture and licensed it to Ministry of Sound and Rinse FM. These successes led to establishing his own record label âNew World Audioâ, which houses his favourite bass music including of his successful brother (and remix artist) Sukh Knight. Anthems such as âOne Spliffâ and âGanja Dubâ have put Sukh on the map in dubstep and grime culture. Known for his wonky sounds, he will surprise you with his vinyl appearance on the flipside. âWay Of Lifeâ is a smooth sailer that reaches out to the early days of dubstep, dub and the life with ganja. Low-pitched vibrations and riveting choirs colour the expression of peace, love and unity inside, while both tremble through a haze of smoke. Followed by complex kick patterns that step forward confidently, words of wisdom take part in sharing Squarewaveâs thoughts on the use of the Marijuana plant. This jam surely pays homage to such life-changing event, healing of the nations and system sound. Sukh Knightâs remix treatment gives off a more electronic feel and propagates differently thru the realm of dub. Its mid-heavy stabs reinforce the peng bass weight that flows similarly to his brotherâs original number. However, his own interpretation bends âWay Of Lifeâ into a really different stepper, which will escort listeners through the raw landscape of Londonâs boroughs. This bass expert, known for his wobbles,shares a tasty dub lick that contains an encapsulating and unique Moonshine sound. Our 27th release showcases British sound system vibes at its best. After the well-received âHomage To The Kingâ album by King Yoof, the Moonshine Recordings camp proceeds with its twenty-sixth single on 12-inch wax and digital. Madplate Sound, the dub production duo originally from Turin and Bristol, is in position for its second vinyl release featuring the lyricists Jago&Galak Spiritual.
The duoâs next single catalogued as âMS026â receives both a healing remix and dub version treatment by Steppas Recordsâ head-honcho Alpha Steppa, who has recreated two master-pieces from Madplate Sound. The way these original samples weaved through the musicianâs mixing desk results into a flawless dub sound.
Loyal listeners of known Moonshine Recordings content wonât be surprised when they hear the original version of âTensionâ: its anthemic status is derived from strong brass elements, low-pitched bass and fitting vocals from Jago and GalakSpritual. Along with the confident pace, dedicated dub mixing and peaceful sound textures, Madplate Sound allows listeners to drift off to Jah without any use of imagination.
Alpha Steppa steps up the to plate by bringing forth a more laid-back stepper for the flip side. While the Steppas Recordsâ dub-in-chief mainly focuses on both the ultra-sonic and low-end pulses, he settles the vocals to the forefront intelligently. This way, he achieves a refined inclusion that outweighs anything youâd come to expect from the English producer on remix duty.
The dub version is even more meditative than the existing remix, notably when it propagates through a good set of speaker boxes. The singing is almost completely stripped, remaining elements are heavily delayed and the reggae riff is pushed further into space.
