Welcome to the Benefit of the Doud Podcast, where we talk about all things tech and gadgets. In this episode, hosts Adam and Cliff take a look at the iPhone 15 Pro and give a preview to a review coming up. Plus, Adam performed an interesting experiment, taking just one charging cable along with him on a recent trip.

The iPhone 15 Pro is Apple’s latest flagship phone, and it comes with some new features that make it stand out from the crowd. Some of the highlights include a new action button that replaces the ring/silent switch and can be customized to perform different functions, such as turning on the flashlight, recording a voice memo or running a shortcut. It has a new titanium body that is lighter and stronger than stainless steel, and gives the phone a sleek and premium feel and a new USB-C port that offers faster data transfer speeds and compatibility with more devices and accessories. Finally, there's a new camera system that features a 3x optical zoom lens, a macro mode for close-up shots and improved low-light performance.

Adam and Cliff share their first impressions of the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as some tips and tricks on how to use its new features.

Adam also tells us about his recent trip, where he decided to bring only one charging cable for all his devices. He explains how he managed to charge his iPhone 15 Pro, his iPad Mini, his Lenovo Yoga 9i and his various other devices using the same USB-C cable. He also talks about the benefits and challenges of using a single cable for everything.

If you want to hear more about the iPhone 15 Pro and Adam’s charging experiment, tune in to the Doud Podcast. You can find us on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Don’t forget to subscribe, like, and comment. Thanks for listening!

Welcome to the Benefit of the Doud podcast, where we bring you the latest technology news, product reviews, and funny commentary every week. I’m your host Adam Doud, and today I’m joined by Nick Sutrich, Senior Content Producer for Smartphones and VR at Android Central. Nick has been covering VR since its inception and he’s here to give us his impressions of Apple’s new AR/VR/Spatial computing headset, the Apple Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro is a radical new entry into the VR market, with a sleek design, powerful specs, and a hefty price tag. It features a 4K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 12MP ultra-wide camera for passthrough and AR, spatial audio with Dolby Atmos support, and a custom Apple A15X chip for high-performance gaming and apps. It also comes with a pair of wireless controllers that support hand tracking and haptic feedback. The Apple Vision Pro costs $3,499 and is expected to launch in early 2024.

Nick and I will discuss how the Apple Vision Pro compares to other VR headsets like the Meta Quest 2 and the PlayStation VR2, what kind of games and experiences we can expect on it, and whether it’s worth the premium price. We’ll also talk about the future of VR and AR in general, and how Apple’s entry into this space will affect the industry.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of the Benefit of the Doud podcast. And don’t forget to subscribe to our channel, leave a comment, and hit that like button if you enjoyed this video. Thanks for watching!

Adam and Cliff are back in 2023 for our first podcast in the new year. This month, Adam had a tough time transferring his phone to a new review device (that he can't talk about yet). As he noted, what used to take 20 seconds this time took over half an hour. We pad out the runtime a bit talking about CES and Samsung's unpacked event coming up at the beginning of February. But that's all Adam's vocal cords could stand so we called it a night.

This month, we recap what has happened since the relaunch. We're on YouTube now! We've released our first podcast/review hybrid. Plus, we take a look at some of the devices we have coming up on the review channel, so be sure to subscribe and stay tuned!

Then we talk about Twitter and Elon Musk because that's everything that has happened since the completion of the buy. It has been…a lot. Verification is up in the air, bots and spam accounts are rampant, and Elon Musk is in charge of fixing it all. It's a lively discussion!

We are officially back! This is the relaunch of the podcast and Cliff and Adam break down how things are going to be happening going forward. A little less news, more reviews, and less interviews, more YouTube. It's a YouTube world we're living in, and we're adapting, for what it's worth.

We also have a preview of a number of devices we'll be reviewing for the channel so be sure to tune in, especially on YouTube to see what we're doing and take a glimpse at Review Cam!

Keep an ear out for the podcast feed and Patreon and the YouTube channel. Good stuff is coming!

Hiatus is one month old, and it's going to get a bit older. Sorry about that. But just to catch up, Cliff and I jump onto a live stream and chat about some changes coming to the show, some devices that will be coming to full reviews in the future, and we talk a bit about some of our tech pet peeves. It's a fun show and a little warm-up to coming back on full-time.

This is the season three finale of the Benefit of the Doud podcast, and we're closing things out with Beyond a Doud with Juan Carlos Bagnell. Juan's creator chat episodes were a sort of inspiration for the Beyond a Doud series. We wax philosophic about being a reviewer, what it actually takes to make a smartphone, and the momentum of content creation.

The month of May had a lot of non-Cliff content so we were able to recap our top stories of the month in a nice return to the origin of the series. We started off recapping the Elon Musk Twitter saga and the OnePlus Nord N 20 featuring Myriam Joire, and Google I/O featuring Daniel Bader. Finally, we wrapped things up with StreamDeck talk with Giovanni Colantonio and Mitt Silverman. It was a packed month which made for a packed show.

This week, Cliff and Adam are taking a look at the US phone market and more specifically why it is so terrible. Like, seriously, why are there no phones to buy in the US? Actually, that's not accurate, There are a lot of phones to buy in the US, but they're all made by Samsung and Apple. OnePlus and Moto also make some, but that's about it, and it's a little sad. This month, we're talking to Andy Boxall, technology writer and reviewer from Digital Trends who until just recently worked alongside me. We dive into what makes Andy tick, starting with his origin story. Andy just wanted to write and didn't much care what he wrote about. It turns out, writing about technology works out pretty well.

Plus Andy is a Lego and Star Wars fan and we did into prequels and sequels and Lego building (featuring the Mandalorian Razor Crest) and office spaces dedicated to Lego. It's a show of unexpected and fun turns.

Motorola returns to the flagship space with the Moto Edge+ 2022 and Cliff has our full review. The Moto Edge+ combines quality insides with not-so-quality outsides, a great camera, awesome software and solid battery life in a package that is priced right. Moto still struggles with typical issues like software updates, cheap build quality, and Verizon exclusivity (kinda) but overall we came away impressed.

We also have a short Tech Yeah segment with the Lenovo Q24i monitor.

After a shortened January and the introduction of Season 3, Cliff and Adam look back on the half-month that was. We started with CES coverage, and tied in our January edition of Beyond a Doud featuring Nirave Gondhia and moved on into the first of a pair of shows based on Adam's vacations. It's a look at NASA's Kennedy Space Center and museum. Sandwich in between there, we talked about Microsoft's huge acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

For a long time, but especially since the pandemic, our experience partaking in products and services has been taken over by apps and software. From Amazon shopping to skipping the check-in desk at Disney, apps are pushing humans out of the center of the service industry. We're not sure if we're better off for it. So Cliff and Adam are exploring the issue in a very TekBeardian like experience. Plus we have the Anker Magnetic Desktop Charging Station as our Tech Yeah item of the week.

This week Cliff and Adam take a look at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. This is the place where NASA, SpaceX, and more launch rockets into space. It's also a museum dedicated to the space program, its development, how the space vehicles were built, the astronauts and engineers involved, and more. Adam spent a day there during his vacation and came away quite impressed, but is it worth the cost of admission?

Plus Vyyyper is back to talk about what kind of gear you need to get started in this industry. His answer may surprise you.

This month for Beyond a Doud, we're talking to Nirave Gondia, CCO of Busy Pixel Media, the parent company of Pocketnow, xdadevelopers, and more. Nirave has his fingers in all those pies and he still writes and reviews devices as well. He's a one-man powerhouse in the tech space.

Nirave was one of the few who attended CES 2022, so we wanted to talk to him about it, and what the show was like with so few people. CES normally has around 250,000 people, and this year it was closer to 40,000. That's still a lot, but it was a fundamentally different show because of it.

This week Microsoft blew the lid off the gaming industry by buying up Activision/Blizzard which is itself mired in controversy and unionization efforts. This is just a crazy deal overall and Digital Trends Gaming Editor Giovanni Colantonio is breaking it all down for us. What is Microsoft buying, why is Microsoft buying it, what could cause this whole thing to fall apart? Those are the big questions we tackle.

Plus, the Lenovo Tab P11 Plus is our tech yeah item of the week. It's an Android tablet that you should actually consider buying.

But it was still a really great show, with some really neat products. Cliff and Adam talk about their favorites listed below. We had the E-ink BMW, Sony's new concept car, the OnePlus 10 Pro, the Dell XPS 13 Plus, the Samsung Ark monitor, and a Black and Decker electronic drink maker.

Plus we have a tech yeah from Dell that has caused no end of hilarity on this podcast.

While the podcast is on hiatus, I took the opportunity to appear along with Enrique Villacrez on the How Tech Podcast, and we had a great time! We talk about the year that was, what's coming up, CES, but then to cap it all off, Ricky found some simply amazing news stories from the year and we all know that's on-brand for me, so we had a blast discussing these stories.

This is a short trailer for my appearance on the show. Be sure to check out the whole episode at

This week, we're getting a little weird. Rather than a normal Douding Thomas episode, we've got a normal episode with news, Tech Yeah, and the whole shebang. Then Cliff and I recap the month that was, first talking about David Ruddock and Esper, and then Laurence Moroney and Stargate AI.

Our tech yeah item is a simple cable from Plugable that is a simple USB-C to HDMI cable. It added a third monitor to my setup and maybe it can do the same for you. I also added a second item, in case the first doesn't come back in stock.

AI and machine learning have given us some of the greatest advancements in tech. But even more important than that, it brought us more new Stargate! Laurence Moroney is the Lead AI Evangelist at Google and he worked with Executive Producer Brad Wright to build an AI model that could create new Stargate scripts by combining the data from 17 seasons of previous Stargate Episodes. It's pretty awesome and we got to talk about it.

Plus, we have another peek behind the curtain with Allison Goldberg talking about ways to make tech news fun.

This month was a busy month at the podcast. We started off with our official iPhone 13 Pro review, which is a great phone, but basically the same phone as last year. Next, we looked at the Soundcore Frames, and asked whether Soundcore had solved the problem I was worried about. Next up, we talked to Russell Holly from CNET about Meta and the Metaverse. Finally, we circled up with the owner and operator of Gamer's World for a look at the physically nerdy, as opposed to online nerddorm.

This week, Clifton M. Thomas and I get together to chat about the iPhone 13 Pro. Overall, it’s a minor upgrade over the previous generation, the iPhone 12 Pro. The screen size is the same, the notch is a bit smaller, and everything is just a bit better. Is it enough to justify an upgrade? Possibly, but only if you can sell your iPhone 12 Pro for an amazing price, which I did.

Plus for Tech Yeah, we’re looking at a charitable cause supported by one of Adam’s favorite Youtubers, Mark Rober. Welcome to #TeamSeas!

This week was a wild one. Facebook went down and then Facebook went down. Google released Android 12, but only a little bit. It's been weird, which makes our Pixel 5a review a little weird as well. This phone is the combination of the Pixel 4a5G and the Pixel 5, hence the Star Trek reference. We had hoped to review this phone with Android 12, but it wasn't meant to be.

This week, we sat down with Michael Fisher to discuss foldables in general. In the world of foldables, there's Samsung, then everyone else, so naturally Samsung took up the bulk of the conversation, but we finally have a foldable under $1,000 and that is significant. So join us as we take a look at the state of foldables in 2021.

This week, Cliff and I sit down to chat about a pair of Lenovo laptops we've each been testing. Cliff has been putting the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 through its paces, while I have been working with the ThinkPad Carbon Gen 9. Both of these laptops are a plus-up from the previous computers we tested and they are strong candidates for our next laptops.

Plus, I take a look at a couple of mophie accessories, the Snap+ Wireless vent mount charger and the Snap adapters.

This week, there's a lot to tackle. I take a long look at the privacy bomb that Apple dropped on us last week. Now that I've had some time to digest it, I have thoughts. Also, Samsung Unpacked dropped this week with watches and foldy phones, so I sat down with Joe Hindy to talk about the event and the devices within. Plus, I've got some tech for you in the form of Raptic Rise headphone stand.

This month, I sat down with Cameron Summerson, the Editor in Chief of Reviewgeek and one of the few editors who has fired me. No hard feelings tho. Cameron is a cyclist and musician, but mostly he's a smartwatch fanatic, so that takes up a lot of the conversation. We also chat about Samsung Unpacked and the fate of the Galaxy Note.

Discussed in the show:

  • Android Has a Big Messaging Problem, and It Broke My Texts for a Week [Updated] – Review Geek
  • Wyze Watch Review: Which One Should You Buy? – Review Geek

This is my TCL 20 review which is a great evolution of TCL's flagship phone. This $500 beauty has the great build and screen that we expect to see in TCL's flagship. That's bolstered by excellent software and a very decent camera. TCL is punching above its weight class with its latest flagship phone, and we've got a full look here for you.

Plus, Cliff takes a look at the Microsoft Duo, and answers your questions about it. Is it a phone? Does it stand out? How's the camera. We've got all that and more for you on the podcast!

This week, we're taking a look at the CAT S62 rugged smartphone. This is a phone that's just as tough as the trucks and forklifts that bear the CAT name. This phone can put up with dust, water, soap, chemicals and more. Simply put, it's a tough phone and I put it through its paces, mostly so I could see what was new in the rugged phone industry. Long story short, rugged phones are getting pretty decent. That's amazing news for those who work in hazardous environments.

Cliff and Adam meet up to chat about the month that was. First up, we talked a lot about Adam's new Lego Space Shuttle set. Didn't plan to, but we did. Then we got into the OnePlus 9 Pro review. OnePlus has come a long way since its origins and it has largely fixed a lot of its camera issues. Then we chatted about the concept and execution of being a reviewer versus being an influencer. There is a very important difference between the two of those. Then, to round things off, we talked about WWDC and Microsoft's Windows 11 event. These are arguably the most exciting events of the summer thus far, and it's the first time we've been excited by a Windows launch in a long time. Plus, of course, we had a little more fun along the way!

Cliff and Adam meet up to chat about the month that was. Foldables and Lenovo were both the theme for the month. Starting off we talked about our official Thinkpad X1 Fold review. It's a neat concept, but too expensive for the mainstream. Staying on the Fold theme, we talked about our full review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. A similar conclusion, but in this case, the product is closer to the retail price. Getting back to Lenovo, Cliff and I both got Lenovo laptops in for review, and we discussed them in a sort of roundtable. This month also saw our Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra vs. iPhone 12 Pro camera showdown, and we wrapped up the month with our farewell to LG.

This week, We're taking a look at three devices I use on a daily basis. These mini-reviews are for two iPad keyboards by Zagg that have officially eclipsed my love for the Brydge Keyboard. These keyboards are both pretty great. Then, we're taking a look at the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, our latest Samsung acquisition. Is this phone worth three Benjamins? We have our final verdict.

Verizon, AT&T, and others just paid 88 billion with a b dollars to the federal government so they can bring you even more 5Gs. This seemed like it was kinda a big deal, so we brought in Sascha Segan of PCMag.com to talk about it. Sascha is the Lead Mobile Analyst at the company, and he has a particular interest in the nitty-gritty 5G details. It's a fascinating conversation, and I learned a lot. You can too!

For the first edition of Beyond a Doud, I'm chatting with Jaime Rivera, COO of Pocketnow. Jaime and I go way back. Pocketnow was my first gig in the industry. We talk about Scotch and knowing your limits. We get into Jaime's roots, growing up in Honduras, working for UPS with a $13 million monthly budget. Then we move into the Apple Macbook Air, and just how damn good that M1 processor is. Spoiler alert: It's really good. Then we get into the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the insane camera setup in that bad boy. All that and more on Beyond a Doud!

Plus we have our final thoughts on the LG Velvet 5G and a look at LG of the future. It's a great show, so I hope you'll come along.

This week, we have a Tech Yeah! segment featuring our friends from Zagg. Plus, we have an announcement about a new feature coming to our reviews. But our top story of the week is our interview with Wahid Rezali from Lenovo. Wahid has his finger in a lot of pies over at Lenovo, and isn't afraid to push boundaries beyond your typical consumer products. What drives Lenovo to play at the fringes? Find that out and more on this week's episode!

Star Wars and robots go together hand in hand, so it's appropriate that Ian Bernstein, Co-founder of Misty Robotics has experience with both. Ian and I discuss his history from Sphero to BB-8 to Misty II, a versatile little robot who can do basically anything you program it to do, including screen you for COVID-19 in the most adorable way possible. Plus, I share some thoughts on the Surface Duo and wonder if we're making the right comparisons these days.
