Welcome to Week Four of Advent on The Mosaic Life Podcast!

This week, we explore the theme of love, particularly as it is manifested in the birth of Jesus. We’ll reflect on the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus showed profound love for His disciples, despite knowing their shortcomings. We'll discuss how love today can often be misunderstood, emphasizing that true love requires action and accountability.

As we prepare for Christmas, we’ll consider how the incarnation of Jesus demonstrates God's sacrificial love and how we can embody this in our lives. Join us as we share practical ways to teach children about love during Advent and how embracing this theme can help us mend relationships and practice forgiveness.

Thank you for joining us on this journey of love this Advent season!

Welcome to The Mosaic Life Podcast!

As we celebrate the joy of Christ’s arrival this Advent season, we reflect on the profound message found in 1 Peter 1:3-8, which reminds us that our joy is rooted in a living hope, even amidst trials. Joy is not merely the absence of fear; it exists alongside our struggles, providing a deeper sense of peace and contentment.

In this episode, we’ll explore how we can cultivate joyful anticipation in our families and communities, tapping into gratitude and connection. We’ll also discuss the often-overlooked sources of joy, reminding ourselves that we are loved and understood, and that we belong to a community through Christ.

However, we recognize that this season can also bring grief and sorrow. We’ll share insights on navigating these emotions during Advent, emphasizing that joy and grief can coexist. We’ll encourage you to cultivate gratitude, stay connected with loved ones, and find ways to bring joy to others, even in difficult times.

Join us as we discuss what it means to embrace the fullness of His joy this Advent.

Welcome to The Mosaic Life Podcast!

In this second week of Advent, we turn our hearts toward the theme of peace. As we reflect on the arrival of Christ, we explore how His message brings harmony amidst chaos and reconciliation in our relationships. Just as the prophet Isaiah foretold, Jesus is the Prince of Peace, lighting our path through the darkness. Join us as we share stories and insights that empower us to cultivate inner peace, extend forgiveness, and embrace the beauty of community during this sacred season.

Show Notes:

Romans 15:13: 'Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ' CSB

“Peace” in Romans 15:13, εἰρήνη, is sometimes translated harmony, tranquility.

Isaiah 9:2-7: 'The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this. For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. For every trampling boot of battle and the bloodied garments of war will be burned as fuel for the fire. For you have shattered their oppressive yoke and the rod on their shoulders, the staff of their oppressor, just as you did on the day of Midian. You have enlarged the nation and increased its joy. The people have rejoiced before you as they rejoice at harvest time and as they rejoice when dividing spoils. The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. ' CSB

Romans 12:18: 'If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.' CSB

Hola! I'm Salime, the founder and CEO of Reformadas where you can find free Bible studies in Spanish created by Latinas for Latinas (www.reformadas.com). Friends have told me that I'm a mix between a global adventurer, an entrepreneurship enthusiast, and a theology lover. I've lived in different countries, which has shaped how I understand the world—from Mexico and the USA to China, passing through Ethiopia, and now in the heart of Texas. I've traveled extensively around the world, visiting churches and meeting brothers and sisters in different contexts but with a similar passion for Christ. I speak Spanish, English, Chinese, French, and I read Koine Greek. I earned a scholarship to study business in the USA (yes, I am a proud nerd), and then I decided I needed to dive deeper into God's Word. So, I obtained my Master of Divinity at Southern Baptist, graduating with honors. As CEO of Reformadas, I am the creator of the vision and the ideas you see. I also create content and steer this ship with the mission of every Latina woman knowing and loving Christ through His Word. When I'm not working, I'm a wife to a great man who knows how to show me Christ in everything and a full-time mom of three. I was even a homeschooler for a long time, so I know a thing or two about patience and creativity! I love reading (obviously) and the color pink (spoiler: guess what color everything in Reformadas is?). But what I'm really passionate about are intense conversations. As the Bible says, "iron sharpens iron," and there's nothing I enjoy more than a good exchange of ideas that deepens my faith and love for Christ. I have taught the Bible in many different contexts and countries. I have visited more than 27 countries and taught the Bible in 13 of them. My faith is not theoretical; it has been forged in the fire of real life. I lost all my grandparents before I was 10 years old and my dad unexpectedly at 17. I've experienced the paralyzing fear of being extorted by a literal gangster and have seen up close the impact of trauma on my adopted daughter. I've moved more than 27 times, sometimes within the same country, other times across continents. But you know what? I wouldn't change any of it. Each challenge, each tear, each moment of uncertainty has refined me and drawn me closer to Christ. I have discovered that He is unbreakably faithful and good, even in the darkest moments. This is the truth I want to share with you through Reformadas: no matter what you face, Christ is enough, and His Word has the power to transform everything. And I love that you are here. If I can serve you in any way, please contact me: hola@reformadas.com

More about Rocky Garza:

There are stories that you tell yourself, whether they were first told to you by someone else or it’s something you’ve created all on your own, that contribute to feeling unworthy, insignificant, and incapable. Through coaching sessions, team workshops, and keynote presentations Rocky wants to show how the truths we have been told have developed into lies we deeply believe.

All of Rocky’s work and words can be boiled down to one truth, that who you are is good. In all that he does, Rocky wants to challenge these stories you tell yourself so you can experience the freedom and confidence that comes with living vulnerably.

Since 2014, Rocky’s been doing just that. Helping people like you find clarity about who you are, experience the transformation that comes with truly knowing yourself, and ultimately accept yourself.

Many of us, without realizing it, are living a life fueled by doubt. That doubt is keeping us from getting the promotion we want, from achieving our goals, and from creating the life we want. It’s time to kill that doubt and build confidence.

Rocky lives in Dallas with his wife and two kids. On the weekends you can catch Rocky spending his days playing pickleball. All day long if it were physically possible.

Welcome to The Mosaic Life Podcast, this season we are excited to explore and dive into the topic of Worship. Through conversations with worship leaders from around the country (well actually the world) we will talk about how worship impacts our lives personally, how we engage in worship communally, and how both shape our faith. We believe these conversations will be formative for this community and hope you will take the time to lean all the way in and grow with us along the journey.

We are back for the final part of our conversation with Sharon Irving today! Sharon just blessed us so much. Her heart and her posture was so beautiful. Today we have a really sweet surprise at the end of the episode so make sure you listen to the very end.

Sharon Irving. Friends–this conversation was powerful. We recorded this just after Sharon and her whole family had gotten over being sick, it felt like such a sacred moment with her. You are going to hear her heart for the Church and for what it means to be a bridge builder in communities. You are also going to hear her talk passionately about her own story and life and just how worship has been a foundational piece of her seeing the Lord draw her into community and intimacy with Him. This episode was so full that we decided to make it a two-part–so let’s get into part 1 today!

Friends, today I get to share with you a dear friend of mine that I have had the privilege of getting to know over the last few years through my work with Celebrate Recovery. John Cassetto is humble and kind, actually, his entire family is humble and kind. I have no doubt that through this conversation you are going to come to believe the same. John shares deep wisdom and takes us all the way back to his childhood and some of his earliest memories in worship. Sometimes we just have to take it all the way back, right? Enjoy today’s conversation, friends.

Well friends, Susan Seay is here to teach us today. First of all, she did not stutter at all when she said of her husband, I love that man. Susan and her husband have seven children, so I would say Susan is here to mother us today. Susan is a gap filler in the world of mentoring moms. When I asked her about resilience, she said resilience is not quitting in the Gap. You will be encouraged as she unpacks this concept. I'm so excited for you to hear this conversation as we talk about life and what obedience looks like in different seasons.

Friends, were back with a few more episodes on the topic of resilience. We just couldn't end this season without sharing these conversations, and today I talked to my friend Vivian Mabuni. Viv is a speaker and an author. She's a wife and mother, and in this episode she's going to gently and wisely lead us to the heart of the father that longs to be led by the spirit. Viv says resilience is showing up, not giving up, and she remembered staying at home when her children were younger. And she mentioned that while motherhood feels like an obscurity, in the quiet of that season, she remembered that God was with her, and in a way that only Viv can. She talks about marriage, the good and the hard. She reminded us that resilience in marriage is worth it. Enjoy the show.

Welcome back to The Mosaic Life Podcast. Friends, we are continuing our series of conversations centered around The Ways We Cope.

In this brief conversation with my guest Charlotte Thomason, we talk about The Relate Journal and how to use it. I have used this method of journaling for over 2 decades. It is a helpful tool when feeling triggered, or overwhelmed by thoughts, or to journal a positive experience.

Charlotte designed the journal to help her navigate her personal recovery journey, then developed an entire program around it.

When she retired, she gifted the program and journal to me. And my goal is to steward well, the gift this journaling method has been to my life.

Now, This particular style may not be for everyone, but I am certain it will benefit some of you. I encourage you to listen to our short talk.

Welcome back to The Mosaic Life Podcast. Friends, we are continuing our series of conversations centered around The Ways We Cope. Before I go on I want to mention that everyone copes. Coping is generally defined as the cognitive and behavioral efforts that are used to manage stress.

Significant life events, whether positive or negative can cause stress and drift: things like divorce, loss, grief, trauma, getting married, or having babies. To adjust to stress, some people may employ various behaviors, thoughts, and emotions, depending on the situation. You may not find yourself attending recovery meetings. You may not struggle with hard drugs. And, alcohol may not be an issue for you. You may, however, need to make some minor adjustments, because of life’s circumstances, having been misused, stagnant, or feeling stretched and you are coping, in order to MAKE IT through the day. If this is you or someone you know this volume of conversations is for you!

Today, Becky Page and I continue our conversation from last week. We went long and I wanted to continue our talk. If you missed part 1, I invite you to take the time to go back and listen, because we set the foundation for this series. Today, we will dive deeper into her story, hear about the ways in which she experienced the Lord’s pursuit of her life, and how she came to understand addiction and recovery.

Welcome back to The Mosaic Life Podcast. Friends, we are going to pivot, and start a new series of conversations centered around The Ways We Cope. Life can be difficult, right? And, the last few years have proven that to be true! We’ve faced various challenges. Some new, some old, and others have seemed to resurface.

And unfortunately, for some of us, the people, things, and vices we turn to, in order to cope or make us feel better are just temporary and often leave us feeling empty and at times without hope. Thankfully there are a number of tools and resources available to help us navigate life’s challenges. And, we have One who is calling us to trust and turn to him so that He can help us navigate this journey called LIFE!

Join my guest and friend Becky Page and me, as we start the discussion on The Ways We Cope. This conversation was so rich with content and story that we decided to split this into a two-parter. The first part is going to be focused on some foundational language for us to all understand what coping is, and how we can navigate unhealthy patterns and Becky really sets the stage for us to dive deeper into this series.

This Season on The Mosaic Life Podcast we are going to explore transitions - both holy and hard. We all face them, let's talk about how to walk or navigate these seasons as best we can. Today we are talking with the dearest, Cari Trotter. You guys, we went deep and long, so deep and long that we have created 2 episodes. I don’t want you to miss anyTHING! In this episode, Cari and I talk about how she shows up in the midst of multiple transitions — involving health, several moves, and the building and rebuilding of community.

Cari mentions stewarding well, the tension of grief and pain along with joy and perseverance. She talks about, well, teaches about enduring when our experiences leave us feeling lonely, even when we are not alone. She says when you’re down “Sometimes perseverance looks like JUST getting dressed. On many occasions she found herself leaning into the power and truth of this verse “because you’ve put the lord before you, you will not be shaken!”

There’s so much so much here . . . join us as we jump right into the deep together!

Rian remembers the people at the moment that prepared her for her current position, and while she doesn’t know what’s next in her life journey, she firmly believes that nothing that is for her will pass her by. We invite you to listen in.

More on Dr. Rian Wright:

Hi Family!!!! I’m Rian Wright and I live in the Houston area with my husband Kevin, who is also my best friend. Together, we are raising two amazing children, Makenzie (17) and Jaxson (5). I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan (forever a Tigers and Lions fan, no matter how much it hurts) and grew up with my mom and brother. My mom, who is my personal hero, worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years and unfortunately passed away in 2011. One of the things that I love about my mom was that I got to watch her serve and love others without condition. I try my best to emulate the agape love she showed others in my daily life.

I am also extraordinarily grateful that I get to do what God has purposed me to do every day. Ensuring that we create equitable learning conditions for all students is work to which I am deeply committed, and for the past 11 years, I’ve been an Assistant Principal, School Leader, and School Leader Manager (supporting 6 HS leaders) in Houston. Currently, I lead the Academic Recovery strategy for a midsized school system serving about 36,000 students across 59 schools while also supporting Principals across the country as a Leadership Coach. I earned my bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and a Masters's in High Education Administration and a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Planning from The University of Texas at Austin.

Through sharing the stories of amazing people you may or may not have heard of before, the Mosaic Life Podcast reveals the humanity that rests inside of us–and the power God has to redeem it for His glory. Whatever broken pieces your story contains–the painful moments and the joyful moments, the mundane and the exciting, the calm and the chaotic, the hard and the good–you can trust that God can weave it all together to make something beautiful out of your life. Our goal for the Mosaic Life Podcast is to motivate you to embrace your story, lean into the passions God has given you, and live with intention and authenticity.

This Season on The Mosaic Life Podcast we are going to explore transitions - both holy and hard. We all face them, let's talk about how to walk or navigate these seasons as best we can. Today we are talking with our friend, Rachael Wade as we go deeper into what transitions can look and feel like. She brings us through the understanding of liminal spaces. How we can lean in with the Holy Spirit as we all walk through different seasons that present these spaces in our lives. Please enjoy this conversation and wherever you find yourself today, be encouraged.

Rachael is a wife, mom of two, seminary student, writer, and teacher who is passionate about encouraging & equipping men & women with the word of God. She believes in the power of the "in process" everyday story. For this reason, she created Olive Us a ministry where women recount to remember the goodness & faithfulness of God. Rachael faithfully serves at Epic Church in San Francisco, where she leads small groups and is on the teaching team. When Rachael isn't leading, teaching, and writing on her "Seeds of Encouragement" blog, she's hanging out in her comfy pajamas at home with her family, enjoying a nice charcuterie board, laughing at something because what is life without laughter, or riding/running with her Peloton people.

Rachael's 'Olive Us' interviews drop on Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and all Major Podcast platforms on the 1st of every month.

This Season on The Mosaic Life Podcast we are going to explore transitions - both holy and hard. We all face them, let's talk about how to walk or navigate these seasons as best we can.

Today, we flipped the script and Bre Clark interviewed Cheryl Luke to kick off the season talking about the biggest transition in Cheryl's life over the last few years. We are excited to have you listen in as they explore together what have been the greatest joys and the hardest challenges through each step along the journey. You are going to be so encouraged to keep taking risks and you will learn how to transition well with your community around you.

Bre Clark is a seasoned multimedia journalist and news personality. With a decade of experience in broadcast news and public relations, Bre has interviewed countless politicians, experts, celebrities, social media influencers, and everyday people, where she discovered most of them were searching for authenticity. Bre has consumed her career with helping others share their stories and owning their truth. During her time living the hustle and bustle of TV life, she found that the stress and pressure to perform had real impacts that led to her research on imposter syndrome. She recently launched a talk show called The Real Deal. Her work is bringing awareness to the imposter phenomenon that leaves some of the most talented people doubting themselves, their worth, and their accomplishments.
