As someone who doesn't have a substance abuse problem it confuses people on how I got involved in 12 step programs and what I got out of it. In this series I am going to talk about the things I connected to and what I got out of them. This first episode is about "Open Letter from an Alcoholic". It is the first thing I connected to that made me curious what these programs had to offer.
I have barely known Tony for over a decade. We always say hi when we see each other and he has always been nice to me, but let's be honest he got famous off of us begging for him to validate us as comedians.
In this episode I talk about how I handled a narcissist discharge/no contact with a toxic relationship. While going through different steps of CPTSD/Codependence recovery. I get an apology and I owe her some redemption but I am still left with some unsaid questions. I am also learning that unanswered questions are avoided because it involves accountability from someone who's main trait is avoiding accountablity.

Enablers, Flying Monkeys, The "I am just trying to stay neutral" people are needed to protect abusive people so they can just continue to keep being abusive. It takes a village to get away with it.
It's been a week since I released my herpes episode and it has given me some relief. But it is a double edged sword.
It's been one year since I tested positive for herpes. From what I can tell my experience has been extremely common but no one talks about it and no one should feel alone or humiliated for having such a common experience.
A lot of my loving a supportive friends don't know what to say or how to show support or how to listen well. Especially after I tell them about my trauma. Here is a little 10 minute clip to help them be more helpful to you.
You can't honestly recover and keep all of your relationships and friendships. Not all of them are healthy enough to keep. And that's a good thing. And if you're losing a toxic friendships right now. Be proud that you've grown enough to see it and grown enough to walk away.

Also just a note: If you act like you're the victim because I talked about your own behavior, that's toxic behavior. You are blaming the mirror for the reflection.

I assumed if any of this ever got out that my family would kick me out of it. The reality is I needed to walk away from any family that would rather keep this a secret and protect the abusers than stay in it. That wouldn't and still isn't safe for me. So this is how I got CPTSD, how I because an Adult Child, Family Scapegoat Abuse survivor, teenage homeless kid and how I got the wounds I would just try and ignore and confuse it for healing. This is Act 1 of three. The next act is how these wounds effected my adult life. Act 3 is how I went in to hiding/healing. There is hope.

Dimo is great friend. We met as coworkers to quickly discover that we share almost all the same passions. We are both stand up comics. Both Podcasters (Check out his podcast Binge and Purge). Both Star Wars nerds. We even did a game show together!
You may know Jeff Dye from Money from Strangers, Girl Code, his stand up, "Jeff Dye's Friendship podcast" or NBC's Better Late Than Never but I know Jeff as the best friend I've made in comedy over the years.
