Today I start the session with some updates on work and how my work with an individual client may be changing due to summer camp. For today's session I explain how the idea for this session came to mind. I then share with you the 3 ways I have worked to unclog my mind when it gets stuck. Our mind does it's job so well for the most part. It works hard all day filtering out information, but sometimes it needs some help. Reframing, closing my eyes and yelling "Silencio Bruno!" in my head are what work for me. These approaches may not work for you or only work for you in certain situations. The only thing that matters is that you find what works for you. Email me at "theseshwithsyrenamichele@gmail.com" or dm me on Instagram(link below). Thank you for listening!

Today's session goes over how goodbyes are awkward. We start off the session with a brief podcast update letting you know that I will be uploading sessions every other week instead of weekly. We then get into our session content. I share with you how I have noticed people around me dealing with changes and saying goodbye. A popular way we protect ourselves from being hurt from loss is reframing the situation. There are a range of ways we deal with changes in our relationships and that is normal. No one is supposed to be good at goodbyes. People mean so much to us and help us throughout our lives so of course it will be difficult to let them go. Email me how you deal with goodbyes at "theseshwithsyrenamichele@gmail.com" or dm me on Instagram(link below). Thank you for listening!

Today I share what I have learned and observed through my work with kids from k-8th grade. I facilitate group therapy and individual therapy at school during recess and after school programs. I started this position full on about a month ago and it is a whole new experience for me. It is a challenging position that has me anxious. I explain where my anxious feelings come from and how uncomfortable working with kids is. I also share what is more comfortable for me and how I learning to adapt to this new situation. I also share some ideas of ways you can get a group of kids' attention and model appropriate teamwork and communication behaviors. Kids are learning all the time, from their peers and environments so it is important to know how you can be influencing a child. Today I share with you my experiences throughout this past week and what I have learned. First, I share my realization that I needed to change my daily routine up because I am now employed and need more energy throughout my day. I share some of the areas I am focusing on and altering in order to maintain a healthy mind and body. Nothing beats you knowing yourself so please take these suggestions as just that and remember to find what works for you. Next, I share my thought process when it comes to working with my first client after graduating and being unemployed for 6 months lol. I explain what stood out to me from my conversation with my client's parent and why. I also explain that the information I share with you today is just a piece of the story and I still need to meet with my client and start our therapeutic relationship. My thoughts at this time are my pre judgements of what my work with my client will look like and is not the full truth. This is just my initial thought process and my understanding of my clients are always evolving from my work with them. If you have any questions or need clarification you can email me at "theseshwithsyrenamichele@gmail.com" or dm me on Instagram(link below). Thank you for listening!

Today I start off the session with some personal updates related to my new job, an upcoming trip to see friends, and an exciting project I am doing with my twin sister. Then we get into today's topic. I begin by explaining my thoughts on why we find ourselves unsatisfied with our relationships. Next, I share my approach of "planting a seed" when working towards opening a door for intimate conversations of learning what people need from our relationship with them. Then I end the session by sharing the tool I utilize to get the conversation started, and that is the Love Languages quiz. I also emphasize that I do not have all the answers nor all of the options you may have in this situation, just remember to find what best works for you. Today, as you can tell by the title of today’s session we are going to be talk about the job offer I got. I explain what the job is and all that but we start with what my job hunting position was before getting the offer. Then we will get into how I found the job, their offer and my experience of counter offering. This is not a financial podcast so take my tips with a grain of salt as this was just my own experience. In today's session I share what influenced this week's conversation. We start with some misconceptions you may have about these two styles and then get into what they are. I lay out details that help you identify an external processor and how to support someone who naturally gravitates towards this type. We then explore details that help you identify an internal processor and how to support them. I share personal stories that explore both types of processors and questions to ask if you are unsure of what type of support your friend needs. We start today's session with some life updates. I share with you my new recording schedule and some changes you may see with new sessions. I also share some information about the aim of this podcast for new listeners. Then I update you on how my second job interview went, fingers crossed! I also have a second podcast with my mom called "Leveling the Spectrum" (follow link below for more info) that is doing great and I hope it continues to do well. We start the content of today's session with answering the question, "what did I realize from my work with clients?". This realization is not a new message and you probably have heard it a thousand times. However, I then get into what I mean and share some examples of how I came to realize this important message. I challenge you to stop running away from your imperfections. Thank you for listening!

Today we have a casual conversation about what I learned during my month break from recording the podcast. I break down what my anxiety looked like once my "break" started and what I tried to remind myself to get through the boredom. I then get into the exciting new that I had my first job interview since graduating from my counseling program and how nervous I was. I then share with you some of the skills I am trying to utilize during this uncomfortable time of waiting to hear back from the job. I think there is something to learn from every moment and experience. There is always a message you just have to be open to finding it. That is all we have for our first week back! Thank you for listening and I'll see you next time.

Today we start the podcast with an emotion update. I explain how I am feeling and the 3 things I think helped get to a better state emotionally. I then share some exciting news about my new podcast with my mom! It is called "leveling the spectrum" and we have conversations that intertwine my mom's hands on experience as a teaching aid for children on the spectrum and my education knowledge on mental health. We have a great time so listen to that (link below) if interested! We then transition into the session where we discuss the difference between you and your counselor. In today's session we have a conversation with counselor Thomas Shooman. I start the session with a brief breakdown of our interview and then we jump into it! Tom and I discuss naps and other things that were on our mind. The interview progressed with some questions I had for him around his experience with clients, how he found himself in this profession, and a lot more. We ended the interview with listener Q&A: 1. Which age group do you think experiences the most mental health issues? Why? 2. What are the best ways to cope with grief from a breakup? 3. Can grief end up leading to other mental health issues? Is it normal to feel pain after a big loss? All of the links are listed below. If you have any questions please email me at theseshwithsyrenamichele@gmail.com or dm me on IG (link below). In today's session I start off by explaining how I am feeling and then proceed to explain what we will be talking about next. I explain an activity I learned in my counseling program that helps us make our thoughts more real so that we can let them go and feel more free. I also explain another version of the activity that I saw on Queer Eye. This is probably why weight lifting feels so good and people feel empowered to get stronger. Try these out and let me know how it goes. Also, if you know the name of this intervention or more about it I would be happy to learn more! you can email me at theseshwithsyrenamichele@gmail.com or you can dm me on IG (link below). Today I open the session with an interesting Mulan reference. I then update you on how I have been feeling this past week and why I did not record a session yesterday. We then transition into why I chose to talk about judgement today. I start off our content with a back story of how I saw judgement going into my counseling program and why I wanted to change it. I also discuss how I came to realize the important of accepting all aspects of myself, even the judgmental parts, because it can be helpful at times. We then jump into what "judgement" is commonly thought of and the negative view society has on it. After, we get into a more helpful perspective of judgement and how becoming aware of when we are utilizing our judgements is incredibly important. We end today's session with a murderino example (for my mfm listeners). Today we take some time to remind ourselves of what is important. Today the U.S is counting up election votes and sometimes in high stress situations we need to remind ourselves to breath and focus on what we can control. No matter who you voted for, you are able to care for yourself in whatever way you need. Show yourself some kindness today and take a moment for yourself. This in turn will benefit the people you cherish most in your life. Thank you for listening!

Today we start the Session with an update on life and I share two tv shows I am currently into (My Hero Academia, The Masked Singer). We then get into talking about CBT and Mindfulness, taking some time to briefly understand what both theories focus on and their differences. I then share personal examples of how I implement CBT and Mindfulness techniques into my work as a clinician and just as a regular human being struggling with social anxiety. My hope is for you to get some clear examples and have options of how you can go about your own mental health concerns. However, the most important thing to remember is to find what best works for you. **if you have a history of intense trauma I advise seeking assistance from a licensed professional who is trained in trauma work. In today's session we start with a brief update on my life after graduating from Syracuse University with my masters in Mental Health Counseling and how my move to the Boston area has been going. We then get into the topics for today, stress, anxiety and fear. We break down their affects on the body and how they relate to one another. We then transition to the topic of breathing and the difference between chest and abdominal breathing, how our culture plays a big part in how we have learned to breath and it's influence on levels of anxiety, and the relationship between stress on the body and your metabolism. And before we end the session I share an example of how I incorporate deep breathing into my every day life. You can find the links to the articles I talked about in today's session below as well as my Instagram. Don't forget to leave a review for The Sesh on Apple Podcasts so others can know where to find some extra Mental Health support.

In today's mini session we switch it up a bit. We start off with a disclosure of why today's mini session is a bit different. We look at how negative self-talk can also be known as cognitive distortions and then jump into a definition. The rest of the mini session we go over 8 forms of cognitive distortions and I give you an example for each and how it becomes negative self talk so that you can become more aware of the forms you tend to gravitate towards. The information and examples I share in today's session is not my own, link is below.

In today's session we talk about the 3 dimensions of perfectionism. I share my experience in school as a counselor and talk about one interaction I had with one of my professors in which my anxiety increased to a max. I share the advice I heard from other podcasters who helped me realize what may be best for me when wanting to decrease my anxiety levels. I relate this advice back to my experience with anxiety and provide others who may be able to relate, with an option for how they can work to ease their anxiety and move towards self-acceptance. I also share some stories about clients I have worked with who have put this advise into practice and the success they saw with it. Make sure to check back in on Friday for a Mini Session where we put this advise into practice.
