Episode 9 – Super Death Benefits Tax can Cost Your Dependents Thousands of $$'s
In Ep 9 we focus on the largely unknown Super Death Benefits Tax.
When clients enter retirement and start drawing a pension, they can easily think that the era of taxes are largely behind them as their pension income, earnings and capital gains are tax-free. However, this is not necessarily the case as their dependent adult children will incur Super Death Benefits Tax on the Taxable component of their super and pension accounts. This may not seem like an important consideration, but if you have accumulated a large part of your retirement savings from employer contributions, salary sacrifice or other tax-deductible contributions then this Taxable component can be sizeable and result in significant taxes for the next generation.
This episode explains what Super Death Benefits Tax is, how it works and the ways in which you can eliminate it for your adult children.
I hope you enjoy this discussion, and I hope there's something there that's useful for you and your family.

Episode 8 – Mental Health Awareness #3 - The Journey of Health & Fitness Coach Brad Mattioli Ep 8 is the last episode I'm recording before I leave for my trek summiting, Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. And the last episode that I'll be focusing on mental health. I will be recording some discussions on the mountain and I will try to release those in podcast form to tie in this whole discussion on mental health for business executives, business owners, and entrepreneurs.
Although it does seem like a full stop on this discussion, it in no way is as the way we deal with our emotions, thoughts, and difficulties in our lives to be the best version of ourselves really never ends. It's a journey and not a destination…. And my trek is just another stage of my journey.
From the outset the aim of these episodes was to discuss mental health from the perspective of a business manager and owner to hopefully prompt others in a similar situation, with similar pressures and stresses, to think about their own situation and how they can manage their mindset and reactions to difficult challenges that they face day to day.
In today's episode, my first in an interview style, I'm discussing health, mindset, nutrition, and business with my CrossFit coach, Brad Mattioli. We focus on his challenges in entering the fitness industry, his start as a CrossFit coach, the Covid period for a young business owner and coach trying to establish himself and his approach to challenges in life, plus with his clients as a CrossFit, fitness, nutrition, and sleep coach.
I hope you enjoy this discussion, and I hope there's something there that's useful for you to gravitate towards.
Please share this episode with anyone that you think could benefit from this discussion. And please like and subscribe to this podcast on whichever platform that you listen to your podcasts. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the episode.

Episode 7 – Mental Health Awareness #2 - Rules Of The Game Ep 7 discusses a way that we can ensure that we stay on track without being derailed by our thoughts, emotions, and negative mindset. A way we can manage procrastination to achieve our goals without slipping into a negative mental state. The episode discusses the application of The Rules of The Game explained by Bedros Keuilian on the Bedros Keuilian Podcast Show (episode 001). Subscribe to Bedros' podcast wherever you consume your podcast content. This series of podcasts aims at raising awareness and discussion for mental health issues faced by business owners, executives, and managers. In 2023 I am trekking to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro – the highest mountain in Africa and one of the 7 Summits - and instead of raising money during this trek I am focusing my efforts on building on the conversation focusing on mental health issues and strategies.
At the end of the day, if all this does is spark a prolonged discussion or awareness then I have 100% achieved my goals with this series of episodes.

Episode 6 – Mental Health Awareness #1 - My Trek Ep 6 is the first of a series of episodes that will focus on or shine the light on mental health issues for business owners and executives. These episodes will also touch on my preparation for my next adventure in February 2023 trekking to the top of Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest mountain on the African continent. I usually try to raise some money for charity during my trekking adventures, but in this environment, I thought it’d be best to instead focus on shining a light on an important issue that many people deal with every day. At the end of the day, if all this does is spark a prolonged discussion or awareness then I have 100% achieved my goals with this series of episodes.

Episode 5 – Business Strategy in Challenging Times Ep 5 is a discussion centred on managing your business and strategy in challenging and dynamic times. This episode comes some time after episode 4 and the reasons for this delay is discussed in relation to the challenges that have been faced by many in the Financial Planning community. I discuss these challenges in re to Government regulation change (once again) and the way you can assess whether to pursue a Defensive or Growth strategy with your business and how to navigate from there. We discuss charge-out rates for staff, work flow planning and a way technology can be used to leverage the business and its processes for scale and cost-efficiency. Episode 4 – Pivoting Your Business to a Blue Ocean Ep 4 is a discussion centred on the Blue Ocean Strategy first introduced by W. Chan Kim and Renée A. Mauborgne in their 2015 book and implemented by present businesses such as Uber, Menulog and many others. The conversation focuses on the Financial Planning industry and the work we have done at Manly Financial Services in assessing whether a new business strategy would benefit our business and allow us to gain a competitive advantage within our industry. How can an existing developed business compete in un-contested or an under-contested market place and does the strategy make sense financially for the business and its current resources. This discussion can help any business step back and determine whether a new strategy or new arm to there business can help them grow and generate more value in a more attractive competitive position. Episode 3 – Financial Planning Advice Buyer Beware Ep 3 is a discussion of some main points a Financial Planning Adviser Buyer needs to look out for to ensure they are dealing with one of the majority of ethical and professional financial planners in the marketplace and not the bad-apple minority that we only hear about in the news. These un-ethical and un-professional minority are dragging the industry down with them, and I feel it is important to provide an outline of the ways in which these people can be weeded out before they cause more destructions of people's livelihoods and the integrity of our industry as a whole. Although this podcast is designed specifically to talk Financial Planning & Business Management for business owners and operators, this episode would be of great benefit for all people who are thinking of engaging a Financial Planning professional.
