Just because something is forgotten does not necessarily mean that it’s not any good. As the Earth turns on its axis, times change. What was up is now down. What was fast is now slow. Great leaders are forgotten. Hitlers are remembered. Good times are forgotten. Struggles are remembered.

This podcast, Forgotten, is about forgotten songs. Whenever I write a song that I end up not liking very much, I always throw it away. I never leave it around somewhere to be forgotten. But I do have forgotten songs that I liked at the time that I wrote then but find that years later they might be best forgotten. Early works tend to be forgotten. As the years have gone by gratefully, I’ve gotten better at what I do and so my standards are higher. Still it’s always great to find all these oldies but goodies. Each of the forgotten has its own story. Here are 10.

If you haven't heard it yet, start with Part 1.

Think ballads and relaxed grooves. Take a break and cool out over the beauty and intimacy of some of Link’s best ballads sung by 4 or 5 top vocalists who have worked with him over for 3 or 4 decades and are all still going strong. All that's required of you are a good pair of headphones, an easy chair and the time to do it. Get the inside stories on how and why the songs were written – the story behind the real life drama. Take a walk in the snow, an evening on the beach, a ride through the desert of the great Southwest, a night under the stars and so much more. Part 2 is the same concept as above presenting 9 more songs,

Gospel Music: It’s a combination of music and lyrics. It celebrates – things like life, spirit, soul, miracle, and it, of course, praises God. It makes me not sit still. It makes me want to sing along (and I’m just not a singalong guy.) It makes me watch fascinated how deeply it affects the spirit of the people around me; it makes me want to be a part of the moment. It elicits improvisation, It is unifying. Here, in this Special Edition, do we not only celebrate GospelMusic, but also our Gospel Queen, Jenny Burton, along with many of the best vocalists I ever had the privilege to work with – people like Women: Angela Clemmons, , Branice McKenzie, Jillian Armsberry, Audrey Wheeler, Cat Russell and Margaret Dorn and Danny Madden who also co-created the vocal arrangements with me and Men: Darryl Tookes, John James Keith Fluitt and Lawrence Hamilton. These folks were some A Team! Enjoy a concert of over an hour of life changing Music!

I think it was about nine months ago that I was doing my morning read of the New York Times and I came across an article about a recent discovery of an asteroid that seemed to be heading our way. I remember thinking, “Good lord, what next?“ Thus began Benny The Comet – An ancient/modern tale of a boy, Benjamin Exnod, whose father worked at NASA and his discovery of a comet threatening Planet Earth. When comets are discovered, they are often named after the discoverer. Hence Benny The Comet. Should you be alarmed? Only if you miss this wonderful tale of the imagination. It’s a story for the ages presented as a Podcast Musical. Take the Trip! This one’s a doozy!

One day, not so long ago, I was simply walking across my living room, when a thought hit me and stuck in my head that there was a wealthy elderly man sitting in his den playing a video board game that he had invented. The board game was somewhat magical and most complex. I stopped in my tracks and thought deeper. I realized that he was a God like figure and the board game was us, here on Planet Earth. We were the result of his invention. That was about it. I smiled and moved on across the room.

But the notion stuck with me. I laughed at the thought and wrote it down on a slip of paper: Living In My Video Game.

Perhaps several years later, here is the result of that pause in life.

I discovered a song I had written 4 or five decades ago. It was a response to a very bad habit that I had fallen into in life. The song was written and performed in my living room studio and was a one take … this means that I sang and played it one time in the recording process. It was an imperfect performance, but, for me, it was a powerful reaction to a profound turning point in my life. It touched me very deeply to hear the depth of emotion contained in this one take. I loved the song and decided to re-record it. As it was , in several tries I could not match the depth of the song sung by the much younger me. So I used the original Guitar/Vocal mixed track and added an orchestration to it in my studio – a duet performed by the two Mes – young and old.

So much of life I take for granted

I wake each day to face the same routine

The colors often run

In shades of monotone and grey

And the days melt together

In a frivolous cliché

But occasionally, now and then

Once or twice when the moon is blue

I’ll be walking across a room

And a thought will come

From out of nowhere

So stunning

As to make me

Stop in my tracks

To consider the infinite

The mysteries of life

It didn’t hurt one bit that this previous year wife, Julia, and I planted 26 new trees in our home soil. This episode is entitled

You And I

Not all love stories have happy endings. Sometimes, no matter how hard both parties try, it was just not meant to be. This is an uncharacteristically short (just 15 minutes) podcast whose purpose is to introduce a new song written and performed by Peter Link. It's a love song with an unexpected ending. It's one of those sad but true moments that can sneak up on you in life and leave its indelible mark on one’s life. On a whole different level it is the celebrative product of a major overhaul of Link Recording studios – the first song to come from Link’s new and greatly improved mixing console. All in all, it’s a fascinating listen!

This episode is entitled

Troubles Be Gone – How to get through it…

I had had a rough day. The things that were supposed to happen, didn’t happen. The things that never were supposed to happen, happened. It happens to all of us.

Yeah, life on planet Earth can be a roller coaster ride. I thought to myself, “Well, what do we do now“? How do we turn defeat into victory? Today, I’m going to introduce you to a surefire starter kit. It’s not a permanent solution, but it is, for most of us humans, a wondrous temporary solution. It requires little effort and is definitely fun and satisfying.

Recently I applied my solution and, as usual, it worked like a dream. It worked so well, that I decided to write a song about it.

Join me as I demonstrate that solution right before your very eyes!

Recently, in August of 2024, we released a Watchfire Music Theater Of The Imagination video entitled Brent Nicholson Earl, A Most Extraordinary Man. It is an amazing story of determination and triumph, and it memorializes the 1986 fundraising Close Upon The Hour Concert in New York City that helped finance Brent Nicholson Earle, and The American Run For The End Of Aids, his historic run around the circumference of the United States, bringing National attention to the plight and potential solutions of the AIDS epidemic.

In the video, I tell the story of this lifelong friend who spent his life championing Gay rights. The story, which was the main feature in a decade ending People Magazine Special, is a doozy. In remembering back, there are so many angles to the telling of the story, that I found it impossible in the video to tell the complete story.

Consequently, in October of 2024 I interviewed Brent Nicholson Earl and asked him to look back once again at this time in his life nd recall some of the amazing insights and special moments of his historic run.a This podcast, an addendum to the video, does just that.

The phone rang. I picked it up and the lady on the other end said, “Hi, I am the director of the Creative Arts program at Camp Newfound Owatonna. I’m looking for a teacher to put together a music class for this summer's creative arts program at camp. I’m wondering if you might know someone who might be interested.” Long story short, needing a vacation, I took the job. A week or so at this camp in the cool state of Maine woods by a lake in August seemed to totally make sense. The story of how I spent my summer vacation – teaching a music class to 12 dedicated very adult students. The trials and triumphs; the obstacles and revelations. The building of a song from the ground up and the ultimate joys of performance. A walk in the sunlight; A Walk In The Woods.

From the New York Times: Quote: “Much Ado About Nothing is a feast! Joseph Papp’s 1972 CBS television production of the New York Shakespeare Festival’s staging of Shakespeare’s rollicking comedy is brassy, bouncy, and all–together entertaining. Featuring Sam Waterston, Douglas Watson and the Tony Award performances of Kathleen Widdoes and Barnard Hughes, Papp’s turn of the century version was critically acclaimed and enormously popular with audiences. Much Ado About Nothing originated at the open-air Delacorte Theater in Central Park. It was such a hit in the park that producer, Joseph Papp, that fall, transferred the entire show to Broadway and there it became the longest running Shakespeare production in Broadway history. In 1972, 20 million people saw the broadcast of this CBS – TV IBM sponsored production of Shakespeare’s classic tale of romance, mistaken identity, and the battle of the sexes. Probably more people saw it on that one night than had seen it previously in history.

Miracle Of Faith is a Suite for orchestra and three voices – a man, a woman and a young boy. We like to think of it as yet another Musical Theater of the Imagination special project, and we invite you to exercise your imaginations as you listen to this ancient tale of songs and instrumentals. It is a trilogy of songs that look at the age-old story of the five loaves and two fishes told in the four Gospels of the Bible. It covers three points of view of the same story coming from three different characters. It needs to be listened to in one 40 minute sitting as one continuous piece of music. The performance itself will be presented in a second, Part Two, episode and is available now. Please listen to Part One first.

I woke up one morning and realized that my past, on Planet Earth, was probably longer than my future – that there was more time that lay behind than what lies ahead. But then again, I believe deeply in life eternal. So, what’s to worry?

But … Just what is it that goes on? What stays behind? Where do I go from here? Heaven knows ...

This one thing I do know, however: The purpose of that album was to open our eyes to the timelessness of our future. After all, isn’t that what the basis of Heaven is all about? Moving on. No endings – only new beginnings? This is Part Two of a two part series.

Podcasting — The evolution of the musical is upon us.

It’s time for new works. Scattershot Symphony will now evolve from the past, to the present and into the future. It’s inevitable. So here we are at the cutting edge of 21st century musicals – the musical podcast.

It’s Radio Re-Imagined … only better.

Today we offer a PRELISTEN, to songs from a new musical written by Peter Link and Ragan Courtney.

Searching For My Father

A Podcast Musical Of Biblical Proportions

This Episode’s musical is the story of a boy and his transforming relationship with God. It is told through a collection of short, free verse monologues, dialogues and lyrics (songs) that collectively narrate many of the popular stories of The Bible.

Our Boy, a brilliant young pianist loses his father and mentor to cancer and consequently his faith as well.

So, God enlists the services of some of the most famous Bible characters of the past, gives them the ability to time travel from the past to the present and share their stories and wisdom with the boy in order to pull him out of his depression and help him regain his faith.

Podcasting — The evolution of the musical is upon us.

It’s time for new works. Scattershot Symphony will now evolve from the past, to the present and into the future. It’s inevitable. So here we are at the cutting edge of 21st century musicals – the musical podcast.

Today we offer a preview, actually, a better word for that would be a PRELISTEN, to songs from a musical of one of the greatest classics of the theater. Euripedes’ Iphigenia In Aulis.  It’s an ancient Greek story, but it resonates with today’s world completely in that it is the story of a war begun with no purpose except to please a deranged leader’s egotistical wishes. Sound familiar?

In order to break traditions, one first has to know the traditions. The traditions of songwriting are the fundamentals developed over the centuries from Beethoven to George Gershwin to Billy Joel to Adele.  Writing for the theater always gave me license to stretch the rules of the Pop music traditions. Of course, writing for the theater has its own set of traditions or fundamentals, but they always seemed to come under a much wider umbrella. This particular Episode 21 takes us to the edge of the cliff in exploring the unknown, but because of the stretch, it is one of my favorite episodes.

**In my writing today, I find the AABAB - [Verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus] structure often too limiting for the things I choose to write about, though I deeply honor it. Without the basics we have no structure. Without structure or foundation, the building falls down.  So Episode 20 will be a continuation of what we started in Episode 19 -- an  exploration of songs that break the mold. Join me … as I get better at it.

Today we’re going interactive. Songs from the trunk presents some older, but promising material that begs to be reworked, brought up to date, and developed further.  Or, for that matter, perhaps just left in the trunk. So I’m asking you, our devoted listeners, to weigh in and vote on possible next steps for each song. At the end of the podcast we’ll give you a link to write in and share your thoughts on your favorites and even throw me a thumbs down if you like. Don’t worry, it’ll just be a short questionnaire with a few multiple choice boxes to check.

**So what you’ll be hearing (and I hope enjoying) today will be unpublished works from as far back as 40 years ago — some songs fully produced that somehow got stuck on the shelf, and others with just me an’ ma’ ol’ guitar throwin’ it down on a two-track.

Welcome to this Special Event podcast. Thanks for listening. What is a Special Event? Let’s just define it for now at this juncture as some sort of musical presentation that takes you, the listener, beyond the confines of a podcast.

Just imagine a musical experience designed to lift your thought to a higher sense of awareness countering the downward pull of negative energies we all encounter in the world today. Well, ya’ don’t have to imagine. You can now be there.

Is Anybody Listening? was designed as a concert piece that premiered, live from New York in 2016 at the Sheen Center, where it received rave reviews and standing ovations. The production featured the award-winning performances of Jenny Burton and Julia Wade along with a cast of 7 top NY vocalists and the music of Yours Truly. We videotaped the last two shows … so what you will hear today are some of the songs from the live sound track from those two performances.

You are then invited to watch any of the individual songs of your choice in performance through the Watchfire Music YouTube Channel. On top of that, you are also invited to attend the full New York concert right from your easy chair in living color for no charge.

So let’s call today’s podcast, among other things, a Special Event Taster. Put your napkin on and grab your knife and fork. There’s a feast about to be served.

On My Way Home - An Immigrant’s Lament is a newly released song written, produced and performed by Peter Link. The issues of immigration today are as perplexing a problem as many of the most challenging issues that we, as the human race, face. Why? Because at the heart of the Immigration problem lies one of our fundamental truths or principles that we all must live by — the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

The song is one man’s story of his journey as an Immigrant to America. The song was also made into a music video by videographer, Skye Malone. In this episode Peter both discusses the evolution of the song and also interviews Skye detailing his creative process in the making of the video.Watch "On My Way Home" on Vimeo Watch "On My Way Home" on YoutubeScattershot Symphony is presented by Watchfire Music. I’ve always been a composer/record producer who wrote for other people (albums) and for projects – (musicals, movies, television, ballet, etc.)  But sometimes certain ideas and songs were more personal and closer to my heart.  I never saw myself as a recording artist first, but sometimes I was simply the right guy for the song.  In this first of many podcasts, I’d like you to get to know me. The best way of doing that is through my songs. So, these are songs I always wanted to sing myself ... and finally did.  90% music.
