It’s universal appeal is appropriate because it describes a universal problem – sin.Both the song and Scripture agree that we are all sinners. This message examines why this is a problem and what God has done about it.
This is the first message in a series that looks at 5 hit songs from 5 different eras. These songs were not just wildly popular, but each of them touches on an essential truth of the gospel- the good news of our salvation. The very idea of salvation means that we have to be saved from something. The truth of that something is that we have an enemy.
What is the gospel? The short answer is good news. Originally, this word simply meant good news of any sort. However, when the New Testament talks about the gospel, it is referring to good news of a very specific sort.
Throughout the Bible and throughout life we see how God uses the smallest of things to make a huge difference.
We live in a world filled with bad news. In 1 Peter 1, the apostle says that we have received Good News. We have received Good News from There that makes all the difference Here. What is this Good News and why does it make a difference?
