It is another episode of the Top 10 Moments of 2019-20 and this time we are talking about No. 9. The UVU men's and women's soccer teams both played in the WAC Tournament Championship match for a right to earn the WAC's auto bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Unfortunately, it wasn't the storybook ending for either team. But, the fact that both teams were insanely close to going to the Big Dance in the same season, is why this is in our Top 10 Moments of 2019-20.

In this episode, our co-hosts Kyle, Micah and Tyler reminisce about one of the biggest wins in the history of UVU men's basketball. On Nov. 26, 2016, the Wolverines hit 18 3-pointers to knock off crosstown foe BYU in the Marriott Center, 114-101. 114 points is the most ever by an opponent in the Marriott Center. The win earned the Star of the Night on Sportscenter and gave UVU bragging rights for the next year.
The trio also talks about a few other games from the 2016-17 season including a pair of heartbreakers and another big win that snapped a long conference home winning streak. Take a look and see what you think. It is good stuff.

We bring you our Top Ten Moments of 2019-20 for UVU Athletics in our newest weekly segment. We begin with No. 10. UVU baseball RHP Jesse Schmitt was off to a wonderful start in his senior season on the bump for the Wolverines. And that start is our No. 10 moment. Schmitt made a huge adjustment from his junior season where he was the closer with an ERA over 5.
In four starts in 2020, Schmitt had a 1.08 ERA and pitched seven strong innings in a 7-0 win over PAC-12 foe Washington. About the only thing Schmitt didn't get to do was pitch on his home field during his Senior season.
Also, on this episode, we talk about the announcement Utah Governor Gary Herbert made on Thursday. Herbert said that Utah will transition to the yellow stage beginning on Saturday at 12:01 a.m. This is big news because it allows for team sports to come together again. How will this impact UVU? Will facilities remain closed? There are still a lot of unknowns.

Kyle, Micah and Tyler talk about the decision in California for the California State University system to close campuses for the Fall semester and how that can impact other universities and conferences, as well. Will more schools be forced to close campus in the fall due to Covid-19? And if so, how will that impact college sports? It is a depressing thing to think about as we love sports. But, sometimes safety is a little more important. A lot of questions are talked about but one this is certain and that is answers are hard to come by.
The trio then discuss the 2012 UVU baseball season. 32 straight wins, won 40 of its last 41 games and won the Great West Conference regular season and tournament championships. UVU also had three All-Americans and led Division I in a ton of offensive categories. The Wolverines had wins over Arizona State and Arizona who were both ranked at the time. And UVU beat BYU in the lone matchup of the season between the two Utah County schools. But, the Cinderella story didn't turn out the way it should have. Photos courtesy of UVU Athletics.

With no sports being played, sometimes it is difficult to come up with content. However, Kyle and Tyler are still keeping UVU fans entertained. And in this episode, the pair talk about a post by one of the UVU women's basketball coaches.
Morgan Bailey posted a photo from a Zoom call on Saturday and it is a glorious photo. You will have to check out her Twitter post on her account @Aybaybay41 to comment and caption the photo. Perhaps they were watching film from the loss in the WAC Tournament. Or perhaps all the coaches are going crazy not being in the gym. Whatever it is, it was a funny picture to see pop up on the Twitter timeline.
Kyle and Tyler also talk about former UVU men's basketball player Ivory Young. In response to a post on Instagram about the Wolverines playing Texas, Young responded that he was there. Young was one of the first recruits under then-head coach Mark Pope and helped get the Wolverines on the winning track. His biggest performance came in his hometown of Houston when the Wolverines took on Rice in the CBI quarterfinals. Young had 20 points in just 26 minutes and the Wolverines came away with a win. It is always good to see players get a chance to play in front of the home crowd and Young didn't disappoint.
Last but not least, it was May the 4th during the recording and thus Kyle and Tyler talk about a post on the GoUVU accounts. Ryan Boswell created a great picture of Willy the Wolverine holding the light saber and perhaps that will be a fixture in the pre-game festivities of UVU Athletics this next season.
He made his presence known following UVU's win over BYU in Nov. 2016. And now, ESPN anchor Kevin Connors joins the podcast to talk about learning about UVU, his reaction to the win over BYU, and other reasons he continues to follow the Wolverines.
Connors also explains why he loves mid-major schools. It is part of his mantra as 'The People's Champ.' And this Sportscenter anchor shares the path he took to get to Bristol and what those who want to get into the industry should think about when they are deciding on it as a career path.
If that wasn't enough, Connors talks about new UVU men's basketball head coach Mark Madsen. You won't want to miss that clip and also shares how he wants to get out to Orem for a men's basketball game.
Perhaps the best part of the episode is when Connors shares his most embarrassing moment on air to date.

In this episode of The Green Machine Podcast, Kyle and Tyler talk with former All-WAC First-Team member Ben Aird. The trio relive the 2013-14 season where UVU won the WAC regular season crown and earned a trip to the NIT. Aird was a big part of the run and the 4-year starter for the Wolverines talks about some of the best moments from that season.
One of those moments was the end of the New Mexico State game in Orem. We all know what happens. The New Mexico State player throws the ball at Holton Hunsaker and chaos ensues. UVU students rush the court and a brawl starts. It was all over ESPN and every major news outlet. Sad part is that it took away from a great ball game. In fact, had Keave Enos not hit three free throws in the final seconds of regulation, UVU might never have won the WAC regular season title.
Aird also talks about loyalty to the university despite wanting to leave after his sophomore season. It is much different to today's culture around college basketball as players come and go at a rapid pace.
It is an intriguing episode that you won't want to miss.
In this episode, Kyle and Tyler sit down and talk through Zoom about life without sports. The pair discuss when everything came to a screeching halt. Both Tyler and Kyle were in Las Vegas for the WAC basketball tournaments when everything was cancelled due to the coronavirus.
Kyle and Tyler talk about the new UCCU Ballpark and how sweet the new turf is. If you haven't seen it, take a look at the video and check out the logo behind home plate. It's a pretty sweet font.
The two go on to talk about UVU baseball and softball seasons getting cut short and about how the wrestlers didn't get to compete at Nationals. It is just a very unfortunate time but we are here to bring you all things UVU.
We are back. Yes, we are back. Except for one change and that is that Micah will appear a little less on The Green Machine Podcast. The new addition is UVU student Tyler Creer who loves the Wolverines. Kyle and Tyler explore the success the UVU men's soccer team is having so far in 2019 and talk about a complete sweep by both the men and women's soccer teams over the weekend. Did we mention all four matches were shutouts? Impressive. But The Green Machine Podcast is back and we are here to stay. We took a hiatus while figuring out adulting, life and hanging with a two-year-old toddler. It's been good times. It has been a long offseason for The Green Machine Podcast but, despite how busy Kyle and Micah are with full-time jobs and other things going on in life, the dynamic duo is back to talk about UVU hoops and give some thoughts on the Wolverines' season-opening win over Westminster on Tuesday night. We are sorry that we have been gone for so long but we are back and ready to go. We hope you enjoy.
It has been a little bit since Kyle and Micah sat down together to record an episode of The Green Machine Podcast. However, they were able to get UVU men's basketball commit Casdon Jardine to come on and talk about choosing UVU over other schools. Jardine is a 6'7 power forward who adds athleticism, grit and a determination to the UVU squad. Although he has to sit out a season due to transfer rules, Jardine will have two years of eligibility left and looks forward to getting on the floor and working to help UVU get to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
We have been away for a few weeks but we are back. Kyle sits down with UVU baseball assistant coach Derek Amicone to talk about the brutal non-conference schedule that UVU played where the Wolverines went 7-11 including wins over USC, Mississippi State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and UC Irvine. Now, UVU gears up for WAC play and welcomes in Northern Colorado on Friday to start a 9-game homestand. The success that UVU had in its first 18 games, all on the road, should give the Wolverines a sense of confidence as they start the journey toward a WAC Championship.
Here we go...it is Tournament Time and Kyle and Micah talk about the upcoming WAC Tournament and kind of what to expect in the Orleans Arena. You might actually be surprised at their picks for the WAC Champion. It is always a good, competitive time and it all gets started on Thursday afternoon with GCU taking on UMKC in the first game.

In this episode of The Green Machine Podcast, Kyle and Micah talk about another wacky weekend of WAC hoops as both UVU and Seattle knocked off New Mexico State and now the race for first place is just a 1-game difference. GCU also lost at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon and are still a game behind both UVU and Seattle for second place. It was just wacky weekend in the Western Athletic Conference and it sets the stage for another wild weekend coming up.

UVU men's basketball head coach Mark Pope and senior forward Kenneth Ogbe joined Kyle and Micah on this episode of The Green Machine Podcast. Pope and Ogbe discussed the loss to UMKC and how there are no gimme's in the WAC this season. The two also discussed Kenneth's ability to paint now as well as make sandwiches. Pope has challenged Kenneth to a cookoff of pasta and pesto the next time the duo is on the podcast. Family, work ethic, dunking ability and so forth are all part of this episode. In this episode, Kyle sits down with UVU baseball head coach Eric Madsen and senior LHP Jackson Cofer to discuss the season, expectations and the chip on the shoulder that the UVU players have after being picked to finish 6th in the WAC.

On this episode, Kyle and Micah sit down with UVU softball coach TJ Hubbard to discuss the upcoming 2018 season that starts on Friday against 16th-ranked Minnesota in Las Vegas. Hubbard is now in his second season at UVU. The Wolverines are coming off a 3rd place finish in the WAC, which is the best finish since joining the WAC in the 2013-14 season. All-WAC pitcher Lauren Frailey Spendlove returns along with WAC Freshman of the Year Caragh Morris. There are newcomers and transfers that Hubbard really likes and that he believes adds depth to his lineup.
UVU plays its first 22 games away from Orem. This is due to weather risks as many teams don't want to commit to a game and then have to cancel that because of weather. Either way, give it a listen and see what Hubbard has to say about the upcoming season and his team. His philosophies are quite interesting as is his take on who is the craziest coach at UVU right now.
Former 125-pounder and two-time National qualifier Chasen Tolbert stopped by to sit down with Kyle on this episode of The Green Machine Podcast. Sporting a mullet, Tolbert talks about his final two years at UVU and making it to Nationals. In one of the final dual meets of his senior year, Tolbert injured his left knee and it lingered throughout the end of the season. Tolbert received an at-large berth to Nationals and won his first match but lost the next two. He talks about how that wasn't the way he wanted it to end but it's got to end sometime. The two talk about Friday's match against Oklahoma and the opportunity it is for UVU to make more noise in the 2017-18 season.

In this episode, Kyle sits down with UVU wrestling All-American Jade Rauser to talk all things wrestling. Kyle was in Madison Square Garden when Rauser became an All-American although it took an 8-point third period to accomplish the feat. The two talk about that All-American match as well as the upcoming documentary that Rauser has coming out. The documentary is called 'Capturing Lightning' and is all about Jade's rise to becoming an All-American.
The also discuss the upcoming match against Big 12 foe Oklahoma as well as talk about Taylor LaMont, Demetrius Romero and Dustin Dennison and what they are doing this year to be successful.

Kyle and Micah sit down and recap the big win for the UVU men's basketball team over Grand Canyon. They talk about the defense of Kenneth Ogbe on WAC Preseason Player of the Year Joshua Braun who was held to just one point. The dynamic duo also talks about the upcoming game on Saturday night against Seattle where UVU hasn't won in Key Arena since the 2013-14 season.
Micah and Kyle also make picks for Saturday's WAC games with Kyle picking an upset of UMKC over Cal State Bakersfield. It is the one time these two disagree on things. Give it a listen. It will be well worth your time.
In the fifth episode, Kyle and Micah sit down with former UVU hoopster Ben Aird to talk some UVU hoops, the 2013-14 regular season championship team, rivalry with New Mexico State and who would win between the 13-14 championship team and the 2017-18 team who has started the season with a program-best 15-6 record.
Aird relives the postgame festivities against New Mexico State in 2014 as well as postgame festivites after winning the WAC regular season title. It is a good view into the perspective of a former player and how proud he is to be an alumnus of UVU and how he bleeds green.
The 2017-18 season has played out to almost perfection for the UVU and New Mexico State men's basketball teams. Both squads are 4-0 in WAC play. Both have reached the 15-win plateau and both are receiving respect on a National level. Now, they get to meet on the hardwood for the first time this season in Las Cruces on Saturday night. The last time the two teams played, UVU ended a 40-game, home conference winning streak that the Aggies had going with an 84-72 win in the Pan Am Center.
NMSU has a new coach and a new star player in Zach Lofton while UVU counters with its five starters all averaging in double figures led by 7-footer Akolda Manyang at 14.2 points per game.
It is going to be a wild battle for WAC supremacy on Saturday night with the Pan Am Center rocking.
In the fourth episode, Kevin James and Simon Cowell grace us with their presence. Okay, not really. But after UVU Associate Athletic Director Clint Burgi said that Kyle and Micah look like Kevin James and Simon Cowell in the photo, it made sense to start it off that way. On this episode, Kyle and Micah talk about a really good weekend of basketball for the UVU men's and women's teams as they both swept the weekend. The women picked up their first two road wins of the season and the men won by a combined 61 points over UMKC and Chicago State.
